I love this old stuff and As a 70 year old making RUclips videos fixing junk same as I did as a kid. Channels like this have been a huge help and a source of inspiration!
Brings me way back, remember around 76…. think I was 8…ish? right after being warned for the thousandth time “DON’T START THIS THING IF YOUR BUTTOX IS NOT IN THE SEAT!” I planted myself in the mud & once I cleared the mud outta my ears hearing grandpa rolling laughing & grandma cussing & throwing a “beverage can” at one of us, boy do I miss em
We bought a pretty derelict small traditional farm from my wife’s family and having been here for a bit found her grandma’s International BD414 buried in the pit and put it back into service a few years ago, along with most of her 50’s and 60’s trailed kit that I retrieved from its forgotten long time resting place in some scrub woodland (naturally I found it the hard way with a brand new chain on the chainsaw, perfect!). I’m always up for finding out about older gear that does the job because we can’t afford anything new. We’re in the Southern UK on about 110 acres, 80 acres to grass, the rest woodland. We keep a flock of around 250 sheep going on it with regenerative grazing and a couple of fields locked up for hay in rotation every year. Love to see your farming content, even from 3500 miles away it’s pretty much all the same as we do but there’s always something new to learn. Stay safe and wall. Cheers, R. 😎👍🍻
Every time you ask if we wanna see something. I just think YES. I'm pretty sure we all would just watch any content you want to make. It's all enjoyable no matter what you decide to do.
When The idea of having content from setting up fuel tanks was mentioned, it puzzled me. Around here the local jobbers will bring a tank and they are up on a cradle, and have a hose with a dispenser nozzle , it is just dragged off a trailer . They provide it if you buy their fuel. Ours was 250-300 gallons or so. It would hardly be enough footage for a “ reels” video.
Derek, Jessica, & Family. I love to see a Christ centered family get so many blessings. You all work so hard and your eyes are focused on Him. I pray over you all for protection, perseverance, peace and joy. I pray that you al have many many blessed moment together building memories and bringing up the children to know the Lord. It is always a joy and pleasure to watch your videos. BTW, Yes on the Gas and Diesel setup, the pond clean up, and bailin' and hayin', please! You are bless my heart and life with every video. You remind me to work hard for our Lord and keep Him at the center. Though I struggle with chronic pain and sickness there is much I can do for His Kingdom. I grew up in Northern Indiana around farmers and fields as far as the eye could see. The sound of the tractor and the rake is so familiar to me. I remember summer days riding my bike up and down country roads seeing the fields being prepared and then later harvested. The roads filed with tractors and other large machinery, folks out working hard, waving to each other, and being able to stop and just say "Hi". How blessed we all were back then. You, Jessica, and your children remind me of those folks and those times. Again, thank you for being a blessing in my life. God bless you all mightily! ~John
Got a feeling that the boys are gonna be putting up some hay soon. Lol. I put up hay for local farmers during the summers sophomore through senior year. 5 cents a bale. Thought I was rich. Had a 74 binder with a 304 and was able to afford to put some white wagon wheels on it and a snazzy pioneer system with some 6905s. Late 70's early 80's. Those were the days my friend. What a time to be alive.
Pond cleanup and fuel tank install sound like a couple good videos. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, very entertain to watch for people stuck in the 9 to 5 office life.
This channel is becoming more important to me than VGG. Reminds me so much of home back in the day. I remember being in the seat of the draw bar mower for hours with dad pulling with the old JD. Even pulling the manure spreader with the horses. Brings tears of joyful memories! Thank you Derek for everything. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
It's amazing to see these old petrol engine tractors, I've never seen a petrol tractor in my 50+ years in Scotland. I remember people talking about Petrol/paraffin tractors that were popular after the war but I never actually saw any of them.
Love it these lodge vids of the homestead stuff is fun to see. Especially as someone who's around ur age born in 86. Who grew up in a small town in Indiana my summer days were spent with my two buddies that lived on the same block and we all had tractors that our dad's helped us fix up and get running that we rode every day till supper time up and down the alley behind our houses. We even built a makeshift camper out of an ol flatbed trailer that we still have to this day. Right now I have a 2 and 4 year old and ever since they were born they've been learning how to wrench and riding tractors with me. The more we can do as parents to teach our kids actual skills then letting them play on a phone or gaming console the better. Much love to you your family and what you do. Your channel is always my inspiration even when I'm facing health issues or can't find the motivation.
Future video suggestions. Making bales-YES Mowing around the pond-YES cleaning the pond-YES I will literally watch all of that, just need a cold drink. Thanks for the episode, and take car!
Back in the 1960's we went from a steel wheel side delivery rake to one of these. The red and yellow paint was very bright, and it worked just wonderful You mention bunching up the windrows and that side delivery was a master at doing that for us. Remember stopping at those bunched up piles and slowly feeding the baler with a pitchfork. And yes, we mowed and raked with an 8N and baled and hauled hay to the barn with our Farmall H.
Show it all. The house i grew up in was right next to a hay field. For many years, I used to just sit outside and watch the farmer cut, rake, and bail the field. A couple of times, he even let me ride along with him. Brings back a lot of memories. I can hear his big ole John Deere with the big 2 cylinder engine poppin as he went around the field in my head right now.
Look how easily that old Ford tractor started. The mystery of equipment built in the past is so amazing. Dependability is everything when your miles out in a field on a tractor. Thanks Derek for interesting content that a guy wants to see.
Hey Derek and Jessica, i really enjoy your channel, you bring a variety of things that most others don't. Seeing you cutting and raking, brought back memories of my paw-paw, i was cutting, raking and baling hay since i was 8yrs old, i started with the square bales, then the round bales, i'm 47yrs old, my grandpa was and will always be my paw-paw, he's gone now, but will live on in my heart.
We had an early 60s John Deere side rake very much like that one. I did a lot of raking and Dad did a lot of cursing trying to keep it going. Our baler was just as old and twice as bad. But lifting all those bales in the heat toughened me up and gave me strength I still use today. Really hard work stacking in a 110 degree loft... but to the lake for a dip afterwards was heaven. Thanks for 'raking up' sweet memories.
Great down home, feel good video Derek. Love the old equipment, as do many others apparently, and it’s available pretty cheap. Planters, tedders( you’ll need one for hay) balers, wagons..you name it. All you have to do is get it and fix it. Without the grass being totally dry, it’s wet fermented grass called silage. Regardless, please carry us along for the ride. You have such a gentle, pleasant character. Thanks again. Can’t wait to see what you do next.
I’d love to see more “around the farm” stuff. Vgg stuff too, spend some time at home, maybe get some of the rusty acres rigs back on the road. Love the stuff where the family is helping out
Having grown up on farms in the 60's/70s I love these videos Derek!!! Mum and me would drive the hay rakes and dad was on the baler - for hours some days sunrise to dark!! Thanks for the memories!!!
The variety of content is awesome! Don't know how a feller has the time for all this, but I know I sure do appreciate all the hard work you do to bring it to us! Thank you Derek!
I Love tractors !!🤠 Always have . Great video. Keep up the Good job. Best thing about your videos is you are just a regular guy just like us. That is why We all keep coming back for more. 😎
Met a gent yesterday at a gas station in Tennessee who had a 72 GMC pickup. He told me he still uses it on his farm. I told him the old truck looked great and to please keep using it, that's what they were made for. He agreed. Older tool are the best. Thanks for taking us along ~ Chuck
Wow, having flashbacks of hot summers slinging hay bales on Grandpa's farm, stacking those as high as we dared and then Grandma bringing afternoon lunch out to the field, good memories of hard work. Keep up the great work Bieri family.
This videos reminds me... I was around 10 years old and my Dad had me rake hay with a very similar hay rake, However i pulled it with a 1971 ford pickup. Thank you sir. Great video using old equipment.
I appreciate Derek's efforts to demonstrate rural life, keeping land in production, and America's heritage of self reliance. It's all great to see here.
Hey Derek I love how you make this entertaining! But in your true heart is not again! I grew up in northwest Minnesota. I know your pain. Grandpa Thornton had a rake like that back in the day. Then the old Ford you pulled out. My Dad 81 years old. Has the same one but she’s a diesel! Thanks for sharing. Most people in USA don’t understand or know how hard it was to make a living or even feed the family! 10 stars on this one. Chad Thornton
Keep up the great content. I'm disabled and I'm a car nut. This is my entertainment daily. I follow a bunch of you guys. Thank you for what you do. And little grip garage is growing too! That's awesome
Check out Andy farming fixing fabricating! Really good with his kids and nieces and nephews. About 1000 head of Holstein Milkers. Nothing in the barn is on RUclips
I love seeing you use the old equipment. I use an old New Holland 55 rake and a Massey Ferguson 12 baler on my farm in Kentucky. I like keeping the old stuff working.
I used to drive a tractor for my grandad pulling a hay rake just like that. I was probably 13 years old when I was helping him do that. We cut, raked into win-rows and square bailed a bunch of hay in the summers of east Texas. Good times with my grandad. He’d say, “just don’t tell your mom I let you do this”! Haha
I really enjoy watching the old equipment work. Brand new shiny combine Running through a field is fun to watch too. Sometimes I stop and watch. It can be majestic. 😃 I would like to see you put some oats in there or whatever is works well in that neighborhood. Around the pond... got to have room for fishing. 🦈🎣
Sure great to see you put out another VG lodge video. You tube keeps unsubscribing me from your channels so it’s always hit and miss. Always watch for your videos no matter what flavor and your young sons also. Thanks for what you do and bless all y’all
In the 70's, I was one of the youngsters out in the field throwing the bales of hay up on the trailer. I would love to what you do anything with baling. Good memories.
Derek, you dun did it to me!! I used to want an old Ford tractor, had a little land in Wisconsin, then last year moved back to Michigan into my wife’s childhood home. On a quarter acre. Now I want a tractor again!! Good job, would love to see more! God bless you all!😂
I have never missed my birth home more than watching Derek around the farm. I keep hearing my own Dad's wisdom in his voice, and I keep seeing my Dad's productivity in his output...
The old farm equipment is very interesting Mr. Derek and that is a beautiful piece of land that you have. I think it will be cool to see you fix up that pond area like you said I will watch for that.
I spent a lot of time as a kid maintaining and greasing equipment like this. Our New Holland rake did have rubber at the top of the tines instead of the wire twist. I have seen both types. I bet yours get bent out of place more often but break less.
I'm 30 years old and grew up doing this with my dad and grandpa. We had almost exclusively Minneapolis-Moline equipment though besides a little John Deere A. Beautiful place you got, Derek. Wishing you the best. :)
If you had video of you painting a shed, I'd watch it. You're the most entertaining celebrity I know of.👏 Much love and blessings to all ❤️ Stay safe everyone 🤘😎
Derek, we will watch you do paint drying. If you're involved, we're a watchin!! You may as well do 3. Gas, Diesel, and Kerosene. LOVE the old farm stuff. They're from a time long passed where stuff was actually built to be repaired.
Love your new place and using old equipment is the best 😃. The old Ford is running like a champ. I'm Shure you will fix the deer soon and have fun with it.
Oddly enough, Every time a feller sees you have a video out on either channel, he always gives a thumbs up, because he knows it is gonna be good. Keep'em coming, but don't forget to have some rest time for yourself, and family.☝ ☺👍
As someone who grew up in southeastern (Dothan) Alabama surrounded by farms, I literally know nothing about any of that, that you are doing. It's fascinating to see you run equipment and see it in action. I love it! Do peanuts and cotton next!
I didn’t grow up on a farm and I’ve never been interested in farm machinery but I’ll watch these videos every day. I even considered buying an old tractor to play with after Derek’s videos and an episode of Stay Tuned he was on.
Many of us have made sacrifices to live in the country on the farm. Truthfully some of us don’t know anything different. One thing we never had to worry about was food. It’s just a different type of lifestyle most people have a hard time understanding. I see people moving to the country all the time they don’t know how to react with Their neighbors.
We're in our 4th year on 5.37 acres in WV. Thankfully, my cousin and our relatives and friends and our neighbors have shown us how it's supposed to work. Cuz and two of his longtime friends helped us fell and cut up some huge oak trees (some were/are "danger trees"!) I offered Ronald some money towards fuel for the tractor. He scowled at me and said "no"! "This is what neighbors do!" I don't know when I can pay him back with my help, but he is not worried about it! Nothing else like the experience of living in the country! Love your videos and the things you share with us, Derek! You are an amazing human! Thank you for everything you do! ❤️
Even though I love the Millennial Farmer Zach Johnson. Let's be real ever thing you do makes us happy. We love vintage tractors and the way your family is preserving our past. You can race it, fix it , and Farm it. You make laugh through all of it. Can't wait for your next farm or cars and trucks. Your combine fix was a thrill. Love Vice Grip anything. George Netroe Urbanna Va
I’m 42 and I remember when I was still a little fella and we used an old sickle bar mower and hay rake just like those. We pulled ours with JD 600, 620, & or 630 though. These days it’s diesel tractor, crimper mower, big v rake, and a 2000-2500 round baler.
I sure would watch a farm equipment makeover or 2 .or 3 ! Gotta keep nice equipment up and running and in good shape! Ready when you need them! You do them I'll watch em'!
Lodge episodes are amazing. Ive been watching since day 1 on this channel and theres nothing better for a feller to relax to on a sunday afternoon. Just wanted to thank a guy for all his hard work keeping us entertained.
Made a fellers week two videos a reveal and a lodge video! I’m here for all the homestead videos as well as the car content. Big thank you to you my friend for all the family friendly content. Hope you squeeze some time with the family this month. Believe me we all would understand if you took a week or two off from the videos to spend some time with your amazing family.
We are ALL invested in what you do,revivals,or the homestead. Let's not forget the racing part too. Working with what you have brought back to life must be invigorating. Yeah they are old, need some work but really, that old machinery will last for your grandchildren if cared for. Well done!!
Sir Id watch if you livestreamed it all. Everything you share with us is a chance for people like me to learn something new. Love the content, Thank you for all you do.
That pond is SWEET! Get it cleaned up, stock it with some bullheads, sunfish and minnows, maybe a bass or two, the frogs will populate themselves as will the dragon and damselflies. You'll have yourself a rather nice little ecosystem going there that you might be able to pull some sunnies or catfish from now and then.
I grew up on a farm, and watching a square bale hay baler operate was always a fascinating thing. How it got the hay to pack into flakes that you break a bale apart into once you cut the two retaining ropes. Oh and the beat and sound of the baler as it would cut and tie knots in the baler twine every 30 seconds or so....memories!! And you could adjust the length and high tightly packed (weight of the bales) as well.
I baled tons of hay when I was a teenager. Working on farms is how I earned my money. Riding the wagon stacking bales, loading the elevator, and working in the hayloft. That was the worst. Hot, dusty and no air flow. Work on the farm all day and then play baseball at night,or hang out with friends. No way I could do that now.
We would love to see the pond get cleaned up!!🙂😉 Maybe even get some footage of you and your awesome little family out there taking a well deserved fishing break!!
I have an old 2n/9n tractor built in the spring of 1946 5 months before I was born. The reason it is a combination 2n and 9N is Ford stopped building tractors for Civilian use during WWII so when they started manufacturing after the war they used left over parts from before the war. The old tractor has never been rebuilt and it still works great. I gave it to my nephew since at my age I have no need for a tractor.
Two vice grip shows in a week I can’t believe it, but I guess I got to because I’m sitting here watching it
And extra tractor content from roadworthy rescues, good week all round
If you watch, little grip garage you'll get 4😂
3 videos. Perfect!
It happens quite often if you pay attention
@@Agentgamester3 Funny that the YT version is 23mins and the Discovery version is 43mins. lol

There is something about running a sickle mower on a dry day when the grass is falling in the right direction. Very soothing for the soul.
OOPS: * I would love to see you do anything with baling.
Thanks for taking us with you. I mean it. ❤
You need to get some ducks for your pond. Its amazing how much they clean a pond up, they are fun to watch to.
If you had video of you painting a shed, I'd watch it. You're the most entertaining celebrity I know of.👏
Much love and blessings to all ❤️
Stay safe everyone 🤘😎
Derek, we will watch you do paint drying. If you're involved, we're a watchin!!
You may as well do 3. Gas, Diesel, and Kerosene.
LOVE the old farm stuff. They're from a time long passed where stuff was actually built to be repaired.
Brought back memories. I raked a zillion acres of hay with an 8N and new holland as a kid.
I grew up using that exact combination of equipment. My grandad had that same setup. Brought back some great memories. Thanks!
I'd watch the grass grow, anything that starts with "Vice Grip..." I'm gonna watch !!

Get yourself over to Just a few acres farm
Already there. Thank you
I’m convinced that Derek can fix anything! 👍
Modern day mechanics put on New Parts, but guys like Derek, fix the Parts.
I’m 42 and I remember when I was still a little fella and we used an old sickle bar mower and hay rake just like those. We pulled ours with JD 600, 620, & or 630 though.
These days it’s diesel tractor, crimper mower, big v rake, and a 2000-2500 round baler.
We all love seeing the work you do around the homestead. Anything you want to share, we will watch.
Do it all , enjoy watching the things I’ve never seen being done before.
I spent a lot of time as a kid working a New Holland side bar rake, usually behind a McCormick International 414.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane
Maybe it doesn't seem like it to a lot of people, but I am FASCINATED with this farming equipment. Keep going brother!
Don't know about anyone else, but this city fella would like to see how the hay bales are made. Thanks Derek for sharing all of these videos with us.
@@garylaviolette5853 neither could I, wish I could do half of what I could back then!
Hey definitely want to see the pond cleaned up and the baler running 🏃🏻♂️
This kind of material is a HIT for me, sir. The more the merrier!!!
I'm sure you are an inspiration to all one handed mechanics😜
I know you always said you were a farmer but the way you kicked the 3 point off that brush hog let me know we were the same person 😂
We would love to see the pond get cleaned up!!🙂😉 Maybe even get some footage of you and your awesome little family out there taking a well deserved fishing break!!
I'll be dipped another barn video start to the day with keep the great work up especially these lodge videos id watch them all for days
Great work Derek. I like the farming vids. Old machinery always works and works.
Good morning that would be cool to see the pond restoration work done ✅ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
You should put you a nice little fenced in garden by the pond. Use a small pump in the pond to water the garden. What a lovely place you have there
I’ll be dipped!
