I love the small touch of Paras celebrating after beating each boss. So adorable!

If you pay attention to certain bosses like Koga, you can see a thought cloud above the Paras sprite showing Paras happily celebrating victory.
Paras and Parasect are the ones where I look the typing, the stats and the dex entry and just feel that someone most have REALLY hated these two.
it honestly wouldn't be too bad if it weren't a *4x* multiplier for double-weakness... You'd think at some generation they'd have figured out how to tone it down to like x3 or something
I mean at least it has spore. The dex entry is dark but it does have an awesome inspiration.
I would believe the Pokemon that's definitely hated by the designer by looking at its stats and moveset is Flareon.
I think it was Carlin Bros who suggested that Parasect line are the most "hated" mons by the Pokemon Company/Gamefreak judging by how little merch and game/anime/manga appearances they get

I'm interested to see your take on Paras. Looking back on my run, utilizing Growth for the extra speed badge boosts over Swords Dance could have saved me a potential 1-1.5 hours but since it wasn't a great run to begin with, I didn't do another. Spore is the most broken move in the game though so I had so much fun with it, I immediately did a Parasect run. Spoiler alert: It's not too great either but thankfully I used growth to get past Blaine.

I'm so glad you allowed Sleep strategies with Paras. Spore is a huge part of its identity and function as a Pokemon and I feel like the run would have been quite painful if you couldn't use it.
My days of banning sleep are in the past.
I always had a soft spot for paras and parasect....
But doing a solo run? all my support!
Remember: Growth > Swords Dance, always. 999 Attack doesn't matter if you don't outspeed Charizard.

Paras is one of those Pokemon I never really thought about after generation 2. My fondest memories of it are all from using or battling it in Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2. It was simultaneously surprisingly reliable as a team member and easily taken care of as an opponent. Nice video man.

I got an alpha Paras last night in Legends, perfected the Dex Entry, then less than 10min ago I found a shiny Paras. Finally. Now I have to gun for a Shiny Alpha Paras and my life will be complete. I unironically love Paras and will die defending them if they don't kill me first.

I've always enjoyed Paras/Parasect. I felt it was one of the cutest Pokemon (and the episode from the anime made it all the more endearing). So to see Paras do so well here warms my heart.
If you read Paras' Pokedex entries it's clear that it was always the mushrooms that were in control, it's just that that control becomes more direct once it evolves.
as a kid i loved paras and parasect. they felt like such rare and unique pokemon because no trainers had one, and the combination of spore and slash let me walk through so many trainers. doesnt hurt that my two favorite types are bug and grass. Can't wait to watch this cute little guy annihilate the strongest trainers in the region
As a kid Paras/Parasect were two of my favorite pokemon. I loved them in the original pokemon Stadium. They are not great pokemon but I still have a foundness to them

Big paras Stan over here! Cool run. It's definitely pretty clear that your strategies have bumped up a notch after the porygon grind, the way you completely pivot from physical to special attacking mid run is really good routing for a first run!
It was such a cool realization that this pivot was possible and optimal!
Spore is a huge asset: 100% accurate sleep is overkill in gen 1.
Always appreciate the amount of thought and care put into these runs/videos. Great overlay information, great mix of script and live audio, but most of all, though, I love that you actually read the comments, and care what we think. Keep it up, man!

In gen 1, Paras is 4x weak to poison. That is just crazy to me. I did parasect in leaf Green and it didn't have that weakness luckily. In those games it does not get access to swords dance in the main story which provided a bit of extra challenge to replace that with
Scott, I continue to enjoy the growth and improvements in each video. I really like the addition of other poketubers who have done similar runs. I think it really is great for the community! Also the Paras victory celebration is excellent, I loved this little guy! Keep up the great work!

I used Parasect once alongside my alltime Gen1 team member Farfetch'd and it honestly cleaned house, so I had high expectations for Paras. I know solo runs are different from regular playthroughs, but these guys just learn everything that instantly makes a mon great in Gen1. Dig? Check. Bodyslam? Check. Slash? Check. (altough it doesn't really need it) Swords Dance and Growth? Check. 100% SLEEP MOVE?? Check. Apart from stats, the little guy and its dead grandma just gets EVERYTHING. It's so good. The fact it's so aggressive in PLA suddenly makes a lot more sense now.
I love that little zomie bug! It gets somewhat better in later generations, especially when it can get Dry Skin as an ability or when Leech Life got hugely buffed.

Last casual gen 1 playthrough I did, I had a Parasect on my final team. This line is great, spore makes for very good fights, plus Paras is just really cute. Love that ferocious little bug
Paras-Parasect is the coolest evolutionary line to me, and it has solid but realistic learned moves. I'm happy to see him rocking. He's definitely the ultimate Misty beater, and surprisingly good against psychics as long as you don't get hit with a crit. Also, I thought you were gonna make an announcement concerning Parasect at the end of the video?
I feel like parasect vs exeggutor would be a cool comparison. Both are grass types with a 4x weakness, multiple for parasect. Both start with weak physical attacks for Brock. Parasect would have an advantage at the start thanks to it’s starting learnset having a neutral attack for Brock and a super effective attack for misty’s starmie. Exeguttor has much better stats but will struggle for a bit until it gets better moves via tm. I feel like it will be interesting to see if exeggutor would be able to catch up or even surpass parasect
I know that Exeggutor is one of the best competitive Pokemon in Gen One, but if Parasect somehow found a way to win the competition, I would feel ecstatic.

I'm such a big fan of this line. The design, the concept, the shit underdog with the best status move in the game. The thematic typing that indeed sucks. Remember that Grass is the zombie mushroom part. Grass in Pokémon usually represents growth and nice plants. It's rare one gets to see the dark qualities of non-animal life in Pokémon.

I was wondering if you would ever consider a vulpix/growlithe versus? Both firestone evolutions with only 1 stage. Also, Vulpix is my favourite mon' whilst growlithe is my sister's. So, I feel I have something to prove.

I think he already said once, that he'd do a Ninetales/Arcanine vs video, where they start as Vulpix/Growlithe, and evolve through the run. I also prefer Ninetales, but sadly, I think Arcanine might probably win that one. Idk. Currently Arcanine is better, but idk how good it was in gen 1, so perhaps Ninetales can beat it, even if by a small margin? I hope so.

Honestly, it would take 26 years to realize the potential of Paras. Paras is a single stage Pokémon that has one of the most disadvantageous types and even has a x5 fire weakness and no outstanding stats and a very bad movepool save Spore but not even that’s enough when Breloom and later Amoonguss exist. To know that whatever it had was enough in Gen 1 Kanto because of Sleep mechanics would literally take a challenge using only Paras and a person keen on treating Gen 1 Kanto like a Big Data problem.

But scott actually reminded me of it and how well it actually preformed, saying this for a Gen one, most overseen and forgotten pokemon with pretty bad stats. But the amount of crits this lil boy spammed out in the duration of he run was pretty incredible. Over all one of my most favorite runs to watch till this day.. and I have seen them all.. lol
This Paras channelled the spirits of it's Ancestors from Hisui, because wow, what a bloodbath in that second run.

I always love seeing a new one of these videos coming out! I've been thinking it might be cool to see a versus video for Scyther and Scizor in gen 2. I know you've got the whole Scyther/Pinsir thing going on, and that's a great matchup, but I just love that both Scyther and Scizor have the same Base Stat Total of 500, but Scyther is more focused on speed, and Scizor is more focused on Physical Attack and Defense. Also their differing types could offer a neat difference in the playthroughs as well!
Maybe Pinsir vs Heracross or something ;)

Don't worry about Paras evolving. The relationship between it and the mushrooms is kinda weird as they sorta merge upon evolution. The pokemon still has the same personality and recognizes you without issue.
I have been saying that Parasect is a good pokemon for a while now. You just have to avoid those 4x weaknesses.

I'm not the biggest fan of all your jokes and memes, in fact I unsuscribed after the Grimer video because I thought you were trying too much or maybe you were just trying to figure out your way of doing things idk. But anyways it wasn't working for me.
Having said that, I'm so happy to see the huge steps that this channel has taken since then! I really respect the amount of dedication you put in each of these videos and still are able to put them out in such consistent basis. I think that you're really in class of your own at this department atm. You really need to love playing yellow to do this or be mental, maybe a bit of both. :D
And I don't mean to crap at all of your jokes, for example the bruno tier and completely ghosting bruno on this video had me cracking up. :D

Welcome back Anton. I totally get the dislike of the Grimer video. The first year of the channel was a lot of finding my way and figuring out my style. Mistakes were made along the way and it feels like most of them all collided together in that video.

Man this was a really interesting watch! I figured for sure that Paras would have struggled much more than it did thanks to its weaknesses, but I guess Spore + set up is a really solid strategy! The only potential improvement I could see is mimicking Ice Beam vs Lance so that Dragonite is a non-issue, but even so your strategy seemed perfectly solid.
Yeah, mimicking ice beam is clearly better. Sad I missed that.
I watched jrose first but you quickly surpassed him, he became very stubborn in strats and you are much more pleasant to listen too
Paras did a lot better than expected. As a kid I never wanted to use a paras because it was portrayed so weak in that one episode from the pokemon anime
My eldest brother has always been a big Paras fan (and it's a Bug so I naturally liked it), so I'm pleased to see you have so much fun with this cute, buffed up insect. The imagined image of a Hyper Beaming Paras is adorably funny. An yeah, despite it's low speed stat, Paras always seemed to dish out a lot of crits with me as well.

Of course it's fearsome looking! It went from having three 4x weaknesses to only two, you'd get adrenaline from that'd let you think you can fight anything.
Parasect is the definition of "Needs a Buff". Like, overall the whole line, plus some.

Exercise is different for everyone! You just need to do whatever works for you! If you’re a small crab with mushroom parasites, maybe that means eating bread and Body Slamming!
