I get back from vacay, and Jrose drops another banger. I know you are probably sick of making the pokemon blue red runs, but I will never get sick of watching them. Rock on brother.
I found my GBA SP and my red version buried in some of old moving boxes deep in my closet a couple weeks ago. Haven't seen either in over a decade probably (other than when I was packing to move into my house a few years ago apparently). Was able to replace the cartridge battery and both cartridge and the GB are working perfectly. Have been playing it beating the elite four over and over and watching different RUclips videos on the game. Stumbled upon your channel and have been catching up on all of these solo red/blue runs. Your videos are very entertaining. Not only are they entertaining but they are also very informative on the game. I have learned A TON from watching your videos that I honestly had no idea about 20 years ago when I was a kid playing red version. For that it has made my most recent playthrough very fun and interesting. Much different than just stacking all my Pokemon with the strongest STAB moves they could learn with no support moves other than softboiled or recover like I did back then lol. Sorry for the long winded comment just wanted to let you know how much I've enjoyed this series and how much it's taught me playing again making my newest playthrough a lot more fun than I was expecting it be :D
@@MijmerMopper I have been testing around with it for sure. I am really having fun testing different Pokemon's with what would have like the best Toxic/double team/ maybe fly or dig and swift and other cool interesting combos. It's been a lot of fun trying all new strategies.
6:45 zero Pokemon learn Thunderbolt by level up in Gen 1, because it's a Gym Leader's TM. No Pokemon learn ANY of the Gym Leaders' TM moves in Gen 1. This is actually a thing they basically stuck with through Gen 3, and I think the goal was to make it so Gym Leader TMs always felt like substantial rewards. (Of course, the real way to make Gym Leader TMs feel like substantial rewards was always just to make them give you GOOD MOVES, but they didn't figure that out for a while) The only exception is Pikachu, and only in Pokemon Yellow specifically. Because they didn't want you to feel obligated to use the TM on the Pokemon that was forced to be your starter.
Yeah, but there are still some weird ones, like how water gun is a tm even though most water types learn it (and learn surf for that matter). Ok I guess a bunch of normal types can learn water gun for coverage, but still. I don’t get the idea that everything in gen 1 was thought through carefully.
The Gen 3 variation was particularly odd since all of the attacking moves (sans arguably Overheat) you got from the gyms there felt like filler and were treated that way once they became available for level up in later gens. Sure, Gen 1 had Bide and Psywave which didn't work as intended, but everything else is useful for the point in the game where you get it. Heck, even Bide has come in handy in certain solo runs. Meanwhile Water Pulse from the final gym in RSE is a glorified Bubble Beam in a town which you need Surf and Dive to get to. The only moves that would have been worth saving for TM exclusivity there were the boosting moves, which ironically were the ones they *didn't* save, the Torchic line got Bulk Up and Calm Mind was on several legendaries. Not that many kids would use status moves, but you get the idea.
I was about to comment that Pikachu learned thunderbolt by level up, but I didn't realize it was only in yellow. You saved me from an L, and I thank you. 😅
I will literally never get tired of watching Jrose play gen 1. I only ever played the first 2 gens, but I have zero nostalgia for gen 2... haven't replayed them since they were new. That's crazy but gen 1 for ya. I was literally thinking when he mentioned it in the video that there had to be at least one other than Pikachu that could but nope. It is the best electric until gen 2 and rain dance
I was so happy when I saw that this video had just been uploaded. I had been looking forward to see more of this series for quite a while. This really made my evening. Also I'm really happy to see this Magnemite run went a lot better than expected, Magnemite is one of my favorite Gen 1 Pokémon.

Pokemon that you were never meant to have until the middle game are wild for this challenge, to save space GF just…didn’t give them any moves before they’re encounterable.
One of my favorite Gen 1 Pokemon! Magnemite had a tougher time than I thought it would. I knew it'd struggle with anything rock-type, but it just didn't hit as hard as I thought it would. And doing Magnemite in Gen 2 or 3 wouldn't help its offense much because it doesn't learn a damaging Steel-type move until Gen 4! It does get Metal Sound, which is a great move, but no Magnet Bomb or Mirror Shot. Rain Dance + Thunder helps though. That said, the addition of the Steel type really helps its defenses.
i feel like Dewgong of all pokemon might be a really strong contender, it starts with a decently strong normal move in headbutt and a strong ice type move in aurora beam for brock, and it's in the medium fast level up group! could be a very interesting one since brock and misty are usually the big stopping points
Magnemite is one of my original favorites, and I'm glad to see that it had a successful run! Keep it up with these fun runs, I'll always tune in for the ones I like the most.
Been a bit since JRose uploaded, but he did NOT disappoint. I like how Magnemite did pretty okay asides from the nightmarishly long Brock section. Even the Elite 4 seemed..."average" for a pre-evolved Pokemon. Cool stuff to see. Also JRose INTENTIONALLY put off Erika because bad match-up, so no "accidently" forgetting her this time because he PURPOSELY went out of order. Fun times once again!
As you can see, Magneton is my favorite Pokemon, so I have been patiently waiting for him or Swagnamite and I was not disappointed. Thanks for all the content you have made over the years and can't wait for you to do Magnetgod himself soon! You will surely do him justice. Your runs are always a welcomed addition whenever you upload and keep it up!
When you finish this series you might want to consider rerunning Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle again. Since they're so iconic to the generation, and because they made up your first three runs, it would be interesting to see how your strategies for them would have changed, and how much faster that can be run. Also, I know that you've covered why you can't do Caterpie, Weedle, Metapod, Kakuna, and Magikarp in this style of run, but could you finish a run with those five together?
Out of all of them, weedle is the only one that can damage ghost types in this gen at all, and even then it's very little, and there is no double battles. I don't think that'd really work, maybe in the remakes.
@@MijmerMopperThat's true, but you can make two modifications. One would be to give Kakuna (and Metapod, I suppose) the moveset it gains by starting out as a Weedle, which gives you two bug Pokemon to hurt Agatha's three ghosts. The second is to add something like Ditto as the 6th member, since it has no innate strats to beat ghosts by itself (other than what the ghosts themselves provide), and Transform PP only goes so far (both from the move itself, the limit of 5 PP for your opponent's moves, and needing to switch out and switch back in to Transform again).

I recently found this channel and have really enjoyed your gen 1 runs. Gen 1 is the generation I played as a kid so there is a ton of nostalgia watching these videos.
Question Jrose, why is Magikarp not on the tier list at the end? I know it wasn't for a long while because it was the first pokemon you attempted that couldn't finish the game, but now Weedle has that "honour" as well, and it's on the tier list.
Because with Weedle it's theoretically possible without the use of items (even if it needs the luck equivalent of being hit by like a billion lightning strikes). With Magikarp/Caterpie/Metapod, it's simply impossible due to game design.
@@samperez1727Iirc correctly it's not even theoretically possible. Someone did the math and even with crits there's not enough PP even at max to beat all 5 of Agatha's pokemon (I think it doesn't even get past 3) Even a TAS run with Maximum Badge Boosts Always On still only left Weedle with like 14 PP.

In Gen 1, Gym Leader TMs are all moves that cannot be learned by levelup.
30:49 when you mimic psychic, why does it show you at full health for the mimic animation? Os that a gen 1 visual bug or something?
I was just binge watching all the episodes I missed from your month of Jrose because I was in bootcamp at the time. You always have great timing!!
Well you just made my week, love when you post Jrose
The J in J Rose is for the journey, which is why we always watch. Your going to get the best commentary on these runs. We know the conclusion already, still gon watch it at least twice before it's all said & done. Salute mane
Always a good day when i see your videos in my feed. Keep up the great work!
Yay a new video! I love having these on in the background. Hope to see more!
Nice to see you back buddy! One of my favorite channels.
I love hearing the genuine joy and fun you have doing these runs 🙂👍 I'm always excited when you drop a new video! Thanks for many hours of content JRose!!!
I was so excited to see you in my feed. Welcome back to the king!!
It’s kinda funny when you watch a big variety of YT content because you can find people who have really similar voices and personalities. Like for instance Jrose and Samito sound very similar. Great content as always
Another one that’s a bit similar is Ant Venom and TC9700
I saw this upload and immediately clicked. I had a super crappy day at work so it’s just what I needed to lift my spirits. Love the content Jrose!
Glad to see you back again my brother 🙏
Glad to see you back with another run!
Hey Jrose, could you do a video where you show us where all hidden pick ups are like the rare candies and ethers etc? Love your videos.
Would be interesting to see this run in FR/LG given Magnemite's newly acquired Steel typing. :)
Great video as always!
It’s crazy how I thought I was burned out watching these and now it feel like I haven’t seen one in so long so um glad ur back 😊
Missed your content! Glad to see something new!
OH MY GOD YES!! I have been begging RUclipsrs for a couple years now and the only one of note that took on Magnemite prior to today was Scotts Thoughts (an amazing youtuber in his own right). I'm so hyped because this is the single pokemon solo run I did myself when you first announced the WORST POKEMON list to use in a solo run for gen 1. For me, and for Scott, this was a slog. I am very interested to see where you end up level wise in order to succeed in this challenge. And if you used any of my hopefully-helpful tips from months ago.
So pumped for this!!!!
I didn't expect that horn drill finish on a freakin Magnemite run, LOL. Perfect! Great job
YES! I had started re-watching runs from before because I was wanting more of your content. Glad to have you back!
Great colour palette as always. Nice to see you again in my feed!
I was just thinking about Jrose’s channel the other day, anxious for the next upload. Perfect timing. So happy you posted again
Haven't watched your video yet, but as soon as it poped in my frontpage, i made a pogchamp face. Can't wait to have 1h of free time to watch it
Wake up babe, JRose11 just uploaded
Lt. Surge: "When it comes to electric Pokémon, I'm number one! I've never lost on the battlefield. I'll zap you just like I did my enemies in war!"
Jrose11: "Are you sure about that?"
Really enjoying the music! Wonderful to see a new video from you.
Dat Mimic tho.
It used Mimicked Ice Punch using its little magnets, and it used Mimicked Horn Drill using the screw on its head! :p
Lapse of memory of Jrose at the end, about the game with them all. He forgot he DNF Weedle (got to the E4, which is an exploit in itself), I don't see it being possible with Caterpie, Metapod and Kakuna either... So, yeah. A little lapse of memory there, J!
HE'S BACK!!!! YES!!!! Magnemite is one of my favorites too.
Glad to see you back Jbrose, keep at it, you’re a gun!
“Thunderbolt does not effect Rhydon.” “Thunderbolt does not effect Sandslash.” “Thunderbolt does not effect Graveler.”
I’m pausing my movie to watch this! Always a good day when Jrose posts 🔥
Ah yes, I was waiting for this one.
I knew Magnemite would struggle mightily with Brock, but be able to destroy several other teams. Solid showing on the tier list.
In my original Blue version, I trained a Magnemite all the way to Lv 100 and named it Megamite.
I bet that's the most important thing you've ever done in your life. Please Earnhardt yourself, janny.
@@scoobydoo7395 - You telling this guy to become a legendary, 7-time NASCAR champion? That's a weird, but unique compliment.
You're back! I hope all is well, and I can't wait to watch the video
