I have to agree with Elton; the first time I heard this version, I literally burst into tears. The light and shade that she provides to this track and the intensity of her performance just added such a different layer to this already classic song. I'm not a big fan of cover versions normally unless they can do something truly unique with it, and Sara Bareilles does that with her rendition.

Sara Bareilles is an amazing singer that doesn’t get as much recognition as she deserves in a “pop” sense, but is recognized by other musicians as the talent she is. She has a ton of great, beautiful songs you could check out and would love, but one of my favorites that really shows off the purity of her voice is “Gravity”. I think you would really be moved by it.

She blew me away the first I ever heard of her....when she appeared in the 'live' broadcast of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' a few years ago on NBC with John Legend.

I've heard this song about 4 million times, and have certainly had my fill of it, for good. But, this version... she truly made it her very own. Talk about a complete and total makeover. She has basically introduced the world to this classic song all over again. The word "cover" just doesn't do it justice.

Totally laughing my ass off at the falling out of the chair knee pop situation. Lol lol lol. But yeah that phrase just gets me to no end. I can't tell you many times I've just rewound and rewound and rewound and usually I go to the one before it that kind of builds up to it before it goes down really low? And you know it's really hard in that kind of singing to jump from something really really low to really really high but she does like a huge interval leap there in just a handful of notes.

And she makes is seem like it’s effortless to her! She’s such a phenomenal singer.

I don't usually watch reactions in the morning and I miss this one but I know that I suggested it at one point and I assume others probably did as well, but I can't wait to watch this. I am so happy you decided to do this!
I was only introduced to this about a year and a half ago through a reaction channel called The Charismatic Voice, which is an opera singer who breaks down stuff, mostly metal but all kinds of things. And this is one of her favorite performances ever and since then I bet I have listened to this easily 40 times.
If you really want to discover another dimension or three to this performance, go watch Liz's reaction on The Charismatic Voice to this where she breaks it down, it's fascinating.

Excellent version of this song! Beautifully performed. Head and shoulders above Kate Bush butchering Rocket Man! 😂

When Elton John heard this he said that he never had to do the song again. And than he agreed to join her on her tour of the US for a couple dates. They do some great songs together, but unfortunately not this one.

Great voice no question but I much prefer Elton's more upbeat, happier version.

Day 2: react to more Pantera- a new level, cemetery gates, floods, shedding skin, hollow, domination, I’m broken.

It's always hard for me to listen to someone trying to create their own version of such a classic iconic song, it always seems to bring disappointment for me. Longing to hear the original again.

If Elton says this is his favorite, maybe think about why you hate it so much, or better yet don't smack talk when you knew you'd hate it cause you prefer the original so much that nobody could cover it in a way youd appreciate.
