What a beautiful cover of Sir Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Sara Bareilles. Was such a joy to watch and talk about the many things Sara does with her voice. WOW

Fun fact: Elton John once said that this was his favorite cover of his song, and asked Sara to sing a duet with him of one of her own songs. They sang Gravity together, another performance you could check out, cause these two combined are something else!
WOW!
That Gravity performance is so incredible.
I saw Sara Bareilles, I clicked.
Sara also has a live stage performance of Sia's Chandelier; utterly captivating.
Absolutely the most iconic original cover of this song i have ever heard ! I know now why Angelina Jordan covered this Sara Bereilles version on AGT in 2020 that brought the house down at 13 ! Sara Bareilles is such a captivating, mesmorizing and emotional singer ! She's unbelievably talented and her voice is off the charts ! My god can this wonan sing ! A singer songwriter who's unique arrangement of this iconic song is one for the ages ! Thank you Jennifer for introducing me to another magnificent artist who has grabbed my soul immensely ! This should have been a grammy winning performance ! Take care Jenn and thank you for being one of the very best channels on You Tube ! Learned a lot today thanks to tou ! 👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️
Elton john loves this cover version. And he should because it's spectacular.
Sara’s delivery changes in each verse to match the emotional character of each verse… decisive resignation, then anger and confrontation, then a bit of regret and sad reflection.
Sara is the best in the business. She combines unmatched vocal talent to emotional storytelling - match made in heaven!
There are those rare occasions when a cover surpasses the original. This is one of them. IMHO
My absolute favourite rendition of this song analyzed by my favourite reactor. Thanks for this. It was the last song of the set. If you get a chance, listen to any of the other tracks. The whole concert is just her. Vocalist and multi instrumentalist. Very intimate. And she’s great with the crowd interaction. Glad to see I’m not the only one brought to tears. Thanks again.
Thanks for doing this reaction. Sara gives an absolutely virtuoso performance here. I love this rendition!!
After hearing this Elton John said he never had to do the song again. And than he agreed to do a couple of concerts on her tour.
She is so fabulous! No words 🤷♀️
i come to your channel for watching Salma.. but when i saw Sara, i clicked this video..
thank you so much, Jen
That was astounding.......😊
Yes! I have requested this from every Angelina Jordan reactor I've watched, and no one else has done it. Yes, Angelina's is stunning. Sara's is absolute perfection. Thank you!
One of the best covers ever
Jen - Thank You for the pauses. You are the existential music appreciation class I skipped in high school. I came across this cover by Sara during the COVID lockdown. Like others for sure, where have I been, not knowing about these tremendous performers?
I’ve seen this many times, but that makes no difference. I feel the same way every time. This song, this arrangement and this VOICE… actually, I can’t even find the right words. I’m not even going to try. I’m glad you loved it, too. 😊
Now I will be listening/watching with new insight. Thank you. ❤
It’s so moving. Thank you for sending it my way🥰
I've no idea how many CD's, vinyl's, Cassettes, MP3's etc I've compiled over the years. I do know that when it comes to individual vocal performers I have more of Sara's music than any other artist. She is superb(Elizabeth is in awe of her).... and I certainly didn't object to you stopping as much as you did. Her complex vocal technique(s) were beautifully analyzed by you....I get goose bumps too:). The one song of her's that I have on my playlist that I listen to the most is "Once Upon Another Time". She sings it in front of the National Symphony Orchestra with Caroline Shaw and Ben Folds backing her up. Ben is the artistic director for the NSO and her former judging partner on the "Sing Off; both Caroline and Ben have lovely voices. Even if you don't chose to R&A it, it's worth a listen.
sara does this amazingly
This performance strongly influenced Angelina Jordan's interpretation of this same song on her 2020 finale appearance on AGT. Both are truly memorable.
Angelina is a mimic...period!
@@musik102 I would say highly skilled, naturally talented, creative artist, but to each his/her own.
@@tomrogers1305 You're welcome to your own! P.S. get some new ears, because the current ones clearly aren't working properly.
Jennifer, I enjoyed your analysis tremendously, but mostly, your emotional reaction validates what so many of us feel. I cannot hear this or her live orchestral version without crying, even sometimes sobbing - so I identified with that moment you teared up. I’m not a singer, but I’m so glad you made this clip. You have a wonderful vibe. Thank you!
This is the performance that Angelina Jordan mimics. AJ arrangement and melody shifts mirror this. Kudos to AJ for learning from a master.
Never heard this artist before but was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you for another excellent vocal analysis breakdown of Sara's performance. I thought she did a super job. Her voice reminds me of how Lady Gaga sings "Shallow" in the movie "A Star Is Born" combined with anything Angelina Jordan sings.
Angelina is a totally unoriginal singer...the complete opposite of Sara.
Sara’s a Juilliard grad ! And the composer of the Tony award winning musical, Waitress.
False. She got her B.A. in communications at UCLA. 😂 She is mostly self taught. Has admitted to not being able to read music.
Beautiful, loved this, what a voice! Great reaction and analysis Jenn.
I watch a ton of RUclips content, and this is in my top 5 of most-watched. I love the build in this, starting so understated and bringing it up in intensity while keeping the feel. ❤
Sara is one of my very favorite singers! Truly incredible. Thanks for your breakdown!
Just had time to watch this. Oh how I enjoy your reactions! ❤
Sara is love and life. And so are you, Jen. My eyes watered in synchrony with yours, because that moment is beautifully vulnerable and simply moving. Magnificent reaction for a weekend. ❤
Great reaction, analysis, and a *great* show of appreciation! I could totally relate when those tears came to your eyes.
I feel like this is a criminally underrated, or at least underexposed performance/video. Angelina Jordan did a cover of Sara's version of this song on America's Got Talent a few years ago, and that one seems to have overshadowed this, unfortunately. A lot of people credit Angelina for that arrangement of this version not realizing that Sara did this first (as far as I know anyway).
I heard this years ago and it blew me away. The best version ever!
Woo! a great reaction to a great cover. This is what it means to really make a song your own.
Jennifer! Sort of late today but reasons. So I'll admit this is my first exposure to Sara Bareilles and on a well known song. Interesting choice of mix between piano and voice. She does get those low notes ... she must practice with Geoff and Tim too. 😁 11:24 "so warm down here" ... like someone else I know who has a warm lower register. 😊 21:32 YES! This was the best example I've ever heard of that change you described. Can't miss it here. And 25:42 "so pure" ... exactly the word I had just said about that clear high tone she sang. This was a very nice cover! And a great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer. Love your latest nail color! 😊
Oh thank you so much! Was a lot of fun 😁
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome weekend ❤
Hi! I just found your channel, I love how thorough your reaction and analysis is! To answer one of your questions about where in the set this song was, she actually sang it as the final encore.
the song is beautiful, maybe I need a little more time to repeat and listen in order to enjoy it more. jen,,, you are smart and very detailed in analyzing. I learned a lot from you, especially singing techniques. Thank you Jen
aww Jen.
Sara was a judge on one of the seasons of the Sing-Off - the show that Home Free, VoicePlay and Pentatonix were on. She has an acapella background.
Hi, Jenn. 👋👋. Hope you have a great weekend!
And you!
12:24 You may have noticed at the end of the video she's saying good night to the audience- this was her final song after 90 minutes of just her alone on stage. She's absolutely incredible and I'd like to add my voice to the comments below requesting you to react/analyze her song "Once Upon Another Time", especially the "Live at the El Rey" video in which you can hear an absolutely hilarious story before she rips your heart out and makes you sob.
I have never heard her, or OF her, to be honest. At the beginning of the song, I was very "meh." By the middle, I was immersed. By the end I was absolutely mesmerized. Great reaction!
you need to check out FOXES n FOSSILS
version of this , the lead singer is chase she does an amazing version of this
You should check out Norah Jones singing Black Hole Sun!
I never make it through this version in one piece
Bernie Taupin & Elton John (Words & Music)
Please reaction perform SALMA LOVE NEVER FELT SO GOOD🙏
The writing is not by Elton John, it is by Bernie Taupin.
Please react to The Crucified
Song: This Howl
Hi, Reaction Memphis May Fire - Blood & Water, please
Thank u
It may have been an Elton John song, but I can always tell when Bernie Taupin is part of the song writing team. The imagery in the lyrics just grabs my imagination better and there's this cool trick of writing lyrics around a thing instead of stating the thing itself - yet the idea of the thing jumps into my mind. Then similarly, Sara sings around the notes but still the intended pitch locks into my mind despite the science. She has so many bending, sliding notes but with no sloppiness at all. She is the real singer where autotune can't be used because it would destroy her design for the song and would butcher every 4th note. She just has to do it right. There can be no net.
Jennifer, check out Angelina Jordan's cover in this song

Never good when you go into a minor.....😂
As much as I like her version, she's not Elton John, and to me his version will always be better.
She’s probably grateful to not be Elton John.
I personally like this version to the original that was so overplayed for so long. This is fresh, that one is stale to me.
Elton John really liked her version ;-)

All versions are good but Angelina is the best ever ! That's just me.!
Not everything needs to turn into a competition.
Ur cute
