Fun fact: Elton John once said that this was his favorite cover of his song, and asked Sara to sing a duet with him of one of her own songs. They sang Gravity together, another performance you could check out, cause these two combined are something else!

Absolutely the most iconic original cover of this song i have ever heard ! I know now why Angelina Jordan covered this Sara Bereilles version on AGT in 2020 that brought the house down at 13 ! Sara Bareilles is such a captivating, mesmorizing and emotional singer ! She's unbelievably talented and her voice is off the charts ! My god can this wonan sing ! A singer songwriter who's unique arrangement of this iconic song is one for the ages ! Thank you Jennifer for introducing me to another magnificent artist who has grabbed my soul immensely ! This should have been a grammy winning performance ! Take care Jenn and thank you for being one of the very best channels on You Tube ! Learned a lot today thanks to tou ! 👍👍🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️❤️

Sara’s delivery changes in each verse to match the emotional character of each verse… decisive resignation, then anger and confrontation, then a bit of regret and sad reflection.

My absolute favourite rendition of this song analyzed by my favourite reactor. Thanks for this. It was the last song of the set. If you get a chance, listen to any of the other tracks. The whole concert is just her. Vocalist and multi instrumentalist. Very intimate. And she’s great with the crowd interaction. Glad to see I’m not the only one brought to tears. Thanks again.

Now I will be listening/watching with new insight. Thank you. ❤

I've no idea how many CD's, vinyl's, Cassettes, MP3's etc I've compiled over the years. I do know that when it comes to individual vocal performers I have more of Sara's music than any other artist. She is superb(Elizabeth is in awe of her).... and I certainly didn't object to you stopping as much as you did. Her complex vocal technique(s) were beautifully analyzed by you....I get goose bumps too:). The one song of her's that I have on my playlist that I listen to the most is "Once Upon Another Time". She sings it in front of the National Symphony Orchestra with Caroline Shaw and Ben Folds backing her up. Ben is the artistic director for the NSO and her former judging partner on the "Sing Off; both Caroline and Ben have lovely voices. Even if you don't chose to R&A it, it's worth a listen.

Jennifer, I enjoyed your analysis tremendously, but mostly, your emotional reaction validates what so many of us feel. I cannot hear this or her live orchestral version without crying, even sometimes sobbing - so I identified with that moment you teared up. I’m not a singer, but I’m so glad you made this clip. You have a wonderful vibe. Thank you!

Never heard this artist before but was very pleasantly surprised. Thank you for another excellent vocal analysis breakdown of Sara's performance. I thought she did a super job. Her voice reminds me of how Lady Gaga sings "Shallow" in the movie "A Star Is Born" combined with anything Angelina Jordan sings.

Great reaction, analysis, and a *great* show of appreciation! I could totally relate when those tears came to your eyes.
I feel like this is a criminally underrated, or at least underexposed performance/video. Angelina Jordan did a cover of Sara's version of this song on America's Got Talent a few years ago, and that one seems to have overshadowed this, unfortunately. A lot of people credit Angelina for that arrangement of this version not realizing that Sara did this first (as far as I know anyway).

Jennifer! Sort of late today but reasons. So I'll admit this is my first exposure to Sara Bareilles and on a well known song. Interesting choice of mix between piano and voice. She does get those low notes ... she must practice with Geoff and Tim too. 😁 11:24 "so warm down here" ... like someone else I know who has a warm lower register. 😊 21:32 YES! This was the best example I've ever heard of that change you described. Can't miss it here. And 25:42 "so pure" ... exactly the word I had just said about that clear high tone she sang. This was a very nice cover! And a great reaction and analysis as always Jennifer. Love your latest nail color! 😊

12:24 You may have noticed at the end of the video she's saying good night to the audience- this was her final song after 90 minutes of just her alone on stage. She's absolutely incredible and I'd like to add my voice to the comments below requesting you to react/analyze her song "Once Upon Another Time", especially the "Live at the El Rey" video in which you can hear an absolutely hilarious story before she rips your heart out and makes you sob.

It may have been an Elton John song, but I can always tell when Bernie Taupin is part of the song writing team. The imagery in the lyrics just grabs my imagination better and there's this cool trick of writing lyrics around a thing instead of stating the thing itself - yet the idea of the thing jumps into my mind. Then similarly, Sara sings around the notes but still the intended pitch locks into my mind despite the science. She has so many bending, sliding notes but with no sloppiness at all. She is the real singer where autotune can't be used because it would destroy her design for the song and would butcher every 4th note. She just has to do it right. There can be no net.
