Such a beautiful song. Made me a little teary eyed too 😢 She's got some great songs and a great voice!! Hope you check out some of her other songs too in the future 😊
I saw her perform this song live on Broadway in September of 2021… I was in tears by the end of it. She wrote all the songs for the musical (Waitress) that it comes from.
Yeah. This has been on my playlist for a while. The lyrics - my goodness! This honest and pure self assessment is so humbling and powerful. It's amazing when lyrics are so vivid that they can evoke strong emotions.
I gotcha, Asia. I literally haven't listened to this song in years bc I'm not into breaking my own heart. But hearing again after all this time? I'd be hard pressed to vocalize a damned thing without turning into a blubbering mess.
❤ this song it moves me literally it's such an amazing song I just can't get the delivery from her singing it right here maybe live will be different but the first time I heard it more set sung it and oh my God. Every word I felt it it's a different delivery but the song is freaking amazing bro
This is definitely my favorite but all of the song Sara wrote for the broadway musical were great, it is such a good soundtrack and she was incredible in the actual show singing them.
I heard this song for the first time when it was performed at the Tony Awards several years ago. I VERY unexpectedly burst into bewildered tears. It felt like a gut punch of a song describing all the adult women I knew in my life. My mother, my grandmothers, my aunties, this was them and their pain and it was my greatest fear as a result. The fear of being stuck and watching your past and hopeful future violently and uncontrollably divert as a result of an unplanned pregnancy or an unstable relationship.
When I saw the name Sara Bareilles, I had to watch y'all's video. I first heard her singing "Stoney End" for Laura Nero's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She really did a magical show of honoring Laura Nero.
This song always makes me cry espically when I sing it I sob my eyes out great reaction y’all this whole chunk I relate to so much It's not what I asked for Sometimes life just slips in through a back door And carves out a person And makes you believe it's all true And now I've got you And you're not what I asked for If I'm honest I know I would give it all back For a chance to start over And rewrite an ending or two For the girl that I knew Who be reckless just enough Who can hurt but Who learns how to toughen up when she's bruised And gets used by a man who can't love And then she'll get stuck and be scared Of the life that's inside her Growing stronger each day 'Til it finally reminds her To fight just a little To bring back the fire in her eyes That's been gone but it used to be mine
If you enjoy this song please catch the movie of the broadway show Waitress-it’ll be out for streaming soon and it’s out on Blu-ray and dvd. You’ll get a chance to hear her sing it again.
So many of us women ,...naive in love invest our heart, soul and create a new life inside... Our precious child We are Fighting to live .. lost is resemblance of The girl who we used to be . Everything from unrequited love , abuse , abandonment Fearfully moving forward , no hope , no help , no family support Not gonna lie this song , was me and 18 yr old girl . Two daughters by the time I was 20 yrs old . Life was not happy, I did not get to enjoy being a mother Abandonment , suffering and poverty left its mark on my life . I'm blessed to have the love of my children. If I had to suffer all over again, just to have them , I would They are my only reason to live .
Hi Asia and BJ ! Please could you check out a song called 'Unpretty ' by TLC ..... it's very poignant imo, changed my life ! Long story, very empowering ❤ x
That would make a great double feature -- first, the original movie that the musical is based on, then the musical itself. I first saw the musical on stage a few years ago then impatiently waited for a movie version -- which I saw in the theater. Deserves to be watched often.

I saw the show Waitress in the West End (London) this song was in that. It was so good. I was crying along with the actress playing the part.
I legit had an emotional breakdown last week to THIS song. Felt like a release. Needed it. ❤
This is beautifully written and sang by Sarah.
You REALLY need to WATCH shoshana bean’s version.
She played the main character from the musical.

Brings to mind your cover of this- what a beautiful rendition of an achingly beautiful song.✌️❤️
What a masterpiece that song is...
She is a super talented person this song and brave is a good one and her rendetion of I don’t know how to love him are all great
This song always makes me cry espically when I sing it I sob my eyes out great reaction y’all this whole chunk I relate to so much
It's not what I asked for
Sometimes life just slips in through a back door
And carves out a person
And makes you believe it's all true
And now I've got you
And you're not what I asked for
If I'm honest I know I would give it all back
For a chance to start over
And rewrite an ending or two
For the girl that I knew
Who be reckless just enough
Who can hurt but
Who learns how to toughen up when she's bruised
And gets used by a man who can't love
And then she'll get stuck and be scared
Of the life that's inside her
Growing stronger each day
'Til it finally reminds her
To fight just a little
To bring back the fire in her eyes
That's been gone but it used to be mine
Masterpiece ❤

Have they done a Waitress reaction✌️?
