God bless you and your family bro🙏 my son was just born 7 weeks ago today, and I pray that my girl and I never separate and break our family. All i want is to come home from work to my son everyday, and provide for them, and love them
With a daughter on the way in June When I’m gone really makes me feel so happy to father a daughter as a white boy with daddy issues from the inner city of Indy I relate so much to Em even as a new father 💙
The other child in the video he mentions as “Laney” is actually Kim”s sisters daughter who ‘Em adopted due to her drug issues and unfortunately later subsequent death, the baby here is his biological daughter Hailee who gets mentioned a lot in his songs. Years later (not in this video) Kim had a baby with another man then Kim and Em got back together and he adopted her too. Sadly her biological father passed away. Em has been a constant in these 3 girls life and I believe he refers to all 3 as his daughters.
He became his legal guardian, not father. That's what taking custody means, to become the legal guardian of an individual, examples being how your partner can be your legal guardian after marriage. :))
I remember when my daughter was born, my first time being in the car alone since. I played this song and literally couldn’t help it and started crying like a child. A fathers love for his daughter is precious
I wish I had a dad that loved me growing up lol I’d stand watching out the window waiting for him to come back until one day I decided I didn’t want to wait anymore.
The older I get the more I understand the content of this song. As a kid I just liked how it sounded but now that Im well into my 20s, I empathise with Eminem.
As a kid I felt it and understood it from the other side, being the child of two parents who were not doing well financially and were abusive and not healthy together.
Mockingbird is a hymn for real dads. I cry every time, maybe because being a dad was the most important thing for me and probably I wasn’t as good of a father than I thought 😢
If you're worried about not being a good dad, you were a good dad. It's the people who don't care that are the horrible ones. Much love from Nottingham England ❤❤❤
I also have lost my father when I was 18 in 2010 and lost my brother 3 months ago who was also a father himself and I currently right now am a father myself
Mockingbird is such a classic… a song that gets even more popular as the years go on… as someone who grew up in a broken home it really hits deep for me the entire story of the song + it’s a very well done instrumental fact he turned a lullaby into that aesthetic/sound is pretty amazing + like your dad said it’s a really nice chorus with those keys in the background deff one of my fave from Eminem 💯 some don’t realize how diverse he is in terms of range of songs from emotional, sad, angry, funny, hype, motivational etc…
You should play him “Cleaning out my Closet” the anger towards his mom & the play him “Headlights” which shows his growth and his apology to his mom. It’s been one of my favorite parts of his career
I think it is more of him, accepting her apology and coming to terms with his anger towards her. Because he knows that she had a problem and what she did wasn’t acceptable, but he had to accept it to move on.
@@JustLikeAFlower yeah it not that she like openly apologizes but her forgives her actions when he and his brother were young because he now understands how hard it is to raise kids alone and now she is dying so he wishes they could have more time because he found his bother (after css took him) and he wants hailey to meet her.
I went to jail longtime ago, and this song made me cry & still do, everytime that I think on my mistakes that affected my children... on this day I can say that I'm glad that everything kts perfect, but the song definitely hits hard.. is a piece of art!

I used to listen to Eminem a lot as a kid because of my parents. This song always stuck with me, especially when my dad died. I would sit on my porch and listen to Mockingbird on full volume and just *listen.* Also, it’s so funny hearing him say ‘it’s the first time I’ve had an opening to a difficult family dynamic’ (or something like that idk) because this song resonates with me. I’ve heard it and experienced it. It’s definitely my favourite Eminem song.
Man this is so precious to me My mom was a nurse and she worked at night so she almost never could put me to sleep and I was so little I didn't understood why she was not there, so my dad would put me to sleep every night singing the mockingbird part to me while rocking me
Your so lucky to have a dad and a dad you can do something together. Love him and take care of him, we are not all lucky to be in your situation like yours. Love your videos, good content
This is one of my favourite songs from Eminem... it can bring me to tears if i'm in the wrong frame of mind, i will try to avoid if i can for the emotional reaction that i receive... but vocally an amazing tune ❤️💯
I remember I finally got a CD player as a kid and fell in love with this song. It spoke to me as a child in a broken home. I could relate to all of it. Hell, our house even got broken into and we got robbed. Now I’m a young man, wanting to start a family and I have so much motivation to provide a better life for my children as a future father.
I gotta say, I freaking love you guys, your relationship, your banter, and your reactions. Lastly, I love that you've both turned me on to some amazing music-- The Black Seminole and Pasttime Paradise. Side note: I noticed something kind of adorable. Can’t wait for you to share more of the poetic Eminem. Cleaning out my close, followed by headlights. Both Rihanna collaborations. Not afraid, for sure so one of his most motivating and touching songs for me. Toy soldiers. Eminem was at his peak during my 20 s so I really grew with him and his music. And it’s been and still is a wonderful poetic journey of youth and growing as a person and owning up to your youthful mistakes.
Guys, When I'm Gone is a must after this one.... And in the same vein, a little more recent, Castle and Arose (played together back to back) are amazing!
Your videos are very informative for me because I am from India and was born in 2004. The internet is not easy to access, and English-language western music is not popular. I am late and I get to know the story behind the song and about the artists.
It's funny cause dad said there's none of that anger and twist turn stuff etc, but it still did twist in the last lyrics, saying he'll breaking the birdies neck, and going back to the jeweler to make him eat every karat, don't fuck with dad. 😂
i was 13 when this song released, so i was one of those kids just started to learn/see about the reality life ... and you know what? this song is one of many songs that kinda hit my heart hard, make me think what`s gonna happen to me in the future
I think eminem and joyner are two of the best rappers that just sound like theyre talking to you and telling a story without it sounding like they're trying to rhyme. At this point I bet eminem has to try not to rhyme in his everyday life 😂
Have you seen the videos (wether it’s from instagram or tik tok not sure but i see them on instagram) it’s a dude that dresses like Eminem and reacts to normal situations, and it’s just “Eminem” rapping non stop lol. Because I bet it’s really like that. He probably finds a new rhyme every day lol
When I first heard this song I cried for hours. I was 11 and my parents' divorce was getting bloody and my dad made every effort for my brother and I despite being busy providing for us and our future. It still makes me cry. I can't hold it back. Not I have two baby sisters and my dad is getting old and can't give them the attention he gave me so I have to stand in. And if anyone ever tries to hurt them you'll see my mugshot on the news.
This has been my favorite song since I heard it the first time. I might be mistaken but i believe this song to be Eminem's only one without any swearing.. which is impressive
If you wanna do some new stuff, cover Gnat, it's like a modern day Slim Shady track, just references and rhyme schemes out the wazoo! Its so amazing to have seen the journey that Eminem has made, he's really on an untouchable level.

Show him D12! It's a nice time to see him with his old friends. They sadly stopped the group when one of the members got killed, but the music they have is great

During that time I was the dad to my 2 brothers and I remember hearing this song during that time and it hurt
I’ll say it agin, Dad would love “Sing for the Moment” by Eminem.
This is the one I was looking for! I really think he would like it.
Lyrics remind me of my broken family that split up in 2020, the trauma of it has fuckrd me up, I miss my dad😭
Show him D12! It's a nice time to see him with his old friends. They sadly stopped the group when one of the members got killed, but the music they have is great
the piano is playing the chorus the whole time throughout the song too
