    This is honestly the best Rolex ever made. Look at this profile, how well balanced it is (three separate parts with almost equal thickness: back, case and bezel). History and collectability are just a bonus, over a marvellous watch.

    I wear my 40mm SD4000 everyday - fantastic watch and scarcity alone means it should be a great long term investment.

    IMO this is THE best modern watch made by Rolex. I have a White DaytonaC and the new BLRO yet I prefer this to the them. Also, 2.5years of production run makes it an instant classic.

  • @TheEvilbros86

    The Sea-Dweller in 40 mm is a GREAT watch I would definitely keep in the collection. The bezel is so much brighter and detailed but the current sizes (43 and 44 mm) are not convenient for most people. This is the perfect mix. Similar but more esclusive than a classic Sub!

    A follow up review on the rubber strap would be awesome. I’ve been wearing my SD4K as a daily since May ‘18 but still have it on the Rolex bracelet. Given the size and depth of your collection, no reason to move this fantastic and somewhat modern classic along, that’s my view anyway. Hope you get some pleasure out of wearing it

    I much more prefer the SD4000 to the SD43. The SD4000 is the first SD with ceramic bezel and the last 40mm without cyclops. So if I had to sell one it would be the SD43. keeping both, you could try the rubber strap or a simple NATO on the SD4000. I completely understand that you want to differentiate the more as possible the watches (that’s why I didn’t bought the 43).

      the reason a lot of 30 and older folk like watches is because watches were basically required back in the 90s and earlier. we all grew up with them. but with the younger generation and having phones on them 24/7, watches are completely unnecessary; they are no longer tools, but are now accessories. it makes me wonder if the ownership of watches will ever fall by the way side. it also makes me wonder if owning a rolex in 20 years will still seen as a status symbol.

  • @Nexus.Achiles
    @Nexus.Achiles 5 лет назад +2

    Great presentation as always. Congratulations.
    I'd keep the SD4K on top of the SD43. I used to think the SD4K was a commercial failure for a good reason (the little quirks) but not anymore, I now see it as very special piece actually. You won't see many of these in the wild. It represents the last of a kind, of a long series of traditional Sea-Dwellers. The SD43 has its own merits (I bought one) but is nonetheless a clear non orthodox departure from a classic line. Not good nor bad, just different.
    Good idea to put the rubber strap. I was about to do the same with my SD43 but there's no pin and buckle option yet so I'll wait. My Planet Ocean 2500 is also my only diver on rubber at the moment so another rubber option is totally cool as PO and SD look different enough (very different dial to case proportion).
    I would love to see a side by side review of the SD4K vs. SD43. That would be terrific.
    Thanks again for your video and for sharing your passion with us.

  • @MultiLuc28
    @MultiLuc28 5 лет назад +1

    I was wondering if you still had this piece in your collection. In fact I discussed about it with my brother earlier this week. I think this 40mm SD is the best of the SD line. The SD 43 can go as deep as this one, so it makes no sense to me to have a bigger watch that can do the same thing, as the 40mm model wears better for day to day use. The deepsea models, especially the D-blue, look cool but they are too big to wear (for me at least, it's better for people with big wrists).
    If I could choose, I would take this 40mm SD over the other ones. I prefer the bracelet, but if you want to switch it up a bit in your collection, the black strap would suit it very well!
    As far as the name on the card goes, I get it. But as it's a discontinued model it adds to the story and we can't alter the past.

    That'll be a keeper for me. Yes, it is very similar to a sub, but the lack of a cyclops kind of gives it an identity of its own. I've a 116610LN sub and my biggest gripe about it is the cyclops. Off topic, but in my wishful thinking, I wish Rolex would make a dateless Yacht-Master. That'd be handsome.

    The SD4K is a great watch but I feel like maybe it was a mistake for you especially getting paying extra for stickers since you already have the SD43, the JC and Submariners as well. I just don’t see you wearing this one more than the SD43.
    But I totally understand that this becomes an addiction for us and it’s hard to resist getting a new watch! I think you have amassed an excellent collection and should slow down a little bit otherwise you will run out of watches to look forward to! Also who knows what Rolex will introduce at Basel this year and next. It’s almost guaranteed that they will release another must have steel Rolex.
    Also what do you think of the new Royal Oak 15500st? This is now the replacement for the excellent 15400st with new movement and new dial. The rotor has changed, they added minute track and removed the Automatic print from the dial.

    Rare bird for collectors and supertool diver piece. OK for non-beach casual although already a bit big. No go for formal or office. And top piece for beach, pool, holidays. This means about 30 days wear per year. And if you have 2 big divers, then it's about 15 days a year max.

    Each collection should be unique... every watch collector has his preferences, in my personal opinion each collection should have a rubber strap if it’s on an aquanaut or if it’s on a sea dweller it shouldn’t matter as long as it adds some sort of value to your personal perception!

But for sure it will be replaced by something spectacular :) I am quite curious what are your feelings about brands like A.Lange? Maybe you should try something like Tudor GMT, which in my opinion is a great piece of a watch :) I know that you have great taste of watches, but have you considered trying other brands than Rolexlike giants?
