They may not be well appreciated now, but perhaps likely in the future. Am seriously considering getting the SD4K over the Sub 124060 as my first Rolex diver
I'd get the SD4K (3135) over the Sub41 (3230) every day of the week. The only Submariner that's caught my eye is the 14060M with the 2-line dial. That's a vintage looking Rolex with a modern movement (3130). Only when I suddenly become a multi-millionaire, the 5517 Milsub is going to be on my to get list.
After half a century (1967 - 2017) of producing the Sea Dweller there is nothing Rolex could add to the SD4K, as a 40mm dive watch - it is complete as Rolex intended and it took 50 years. After the SD4K, Rolex took the sea dweller in a different and many say controverial direction, bigger case and even gold not to mention the cyclops.
I still have my much loved SD4K (116600) that I purchased in Abu Dhabi back in 2017. Flying Helicopters to the Offshore Oil Platforms in the Persian Gulf, I wanted a reliable “Tool” watch…. Time, Speed, Distance…. I wore my SD4K daily. It was a “working/tool” watch…. and it served me well in the cockpit. Still have all the original packaging and docs. Knowing that it is now safely tucked away in a Safety Deposit Box is however, comforting….. while I wear my less conspicuous TAG Chrono on my wrist.
There are are so many fake watches in Thailand I don't think anyone would blink an eye at it. Its a shame it's in a safety deposit box, it's meant to be worn. I always wear my watches because life is not a dress rehearsal 🙂
Great Vid! I’m a fortunate 116600 owner as well; picked up in 2018 as my first Roli. Love wearing it; clean look without the cyclops, micro adjustments for perfect fit and such solid build quality. Strong investment potential, yes, but they’re meant to be worn/enjoyed!
Disagree on the investment potential. Sea-Dwellers don't appreciate as much as other models. Even after being discontinued for 7 years, there hasn't been that much movement in the value compared to other Rolexes. It's followed the inflation curve, but never exceeded it.

Watch of my dreams right there, simple, capable and rugged. I’m in NZ where there isn’t a massive used market and sadly buying from overseas would add thousands in tax, so for now, still just a dream… Enjoy your SD4K!
Congrats mate, great news. I’ve been fortunate getting no name card watches the last few years here in the Middle East. The SD4K is a connoisseur’s watch. It’s bigger but with tasteful purpose, and has insanely great proportions. My most worn watch alongside the 14060m.
You’re a terrible influence as I’ve also been looking at those 14060M’s 😆. There must be something about the Middle East and not signing the cards as that is where this example came out of. Completely agree, it feels purposeful, sporty, and elegant all at the same time. Thanks for watching ✊🏼
@@ChristopherNegroni haha once you wear a 14060m you will feel the true essence of purposeful design. Many watches were gift watches, and some ADs are just lazy etc. enjoy it brother 👍🏼
Chris, I’m doubting whether or not to take my Sub on a trip to Greece, Florence, and Barcelona. I want to wear it and make memories and enjoy having it, but I’ve heard horror stories about muggings/theft. What’s your take?
Yea I hear ya. I’m debating also. All my watches are insured and I want to bring multiple watches. I may end up bringing just the SD, not sure yet. It’s unfortunate, but it’s the reality. I’d say bring one watch and be aware of your surroundings, try to know ahead of time where you will be throughout the day. You can always stick it in your pocket in sketchy situations. Really, you should always be on alert, you never know but especially in certain countries.
@@ChristopherNegroni solid advice. I hear you on the insurance route, but even then, having to wait yet again to get the call from the AD… thinking about that alone gives me nightmares lol
@@edelmar17 look into hodinkee at least a week before you leave. You can pay for the value it would cost to replace it in the grey market. And if you want cancel the policy when you get back. I know it wouldn’t be your original watch but getting paid out the value will make it hurt less and you have peace of mind at least for that week.
Please I'm not trying to scare monger but you also need to consider safety not just insurance. If they pull a knife or injury you its not about the insurance! Personally I think the high risk areas are high end areas and tourists areas so be very aware, best to take something that's not well known or a look a like homage

@@ChristopherNegroni thanks man! I’m trying to sort things out, had a chance to give a try 124060 and noticed I would prefer a bit thicker case.. and then saw 116600.
Love, love, love the SD4K, but it's a horrible investment. It is still underappreciated, and that's not going to change. A used SD4K costs roughly the same as a brand new Sea-Dweller. So, yeah, it's become more valuable, but pretty much in sync with the level of inflation.
lol the future math. Well the reality is any of the modern Rolex pieces are not really that rare. Maybe in contrast to other models but no where near as rare as vintage models. Rolex makes a lot of watches these days. But I see your point
It's not though. Prices have come down significantly since the COVID watch buying boom. A mint condition 116600 sells for less than a brand new 126600. If you want NOS with stickers, yeah, you're gonna pay a $4000 premium, but since you're gonna peel the stickers off anyway, why pay extra for them?
It always makes me puzzled why the vast majority of people who own seadwellers think it's an appropriate watch considering they will never use the helium escape valve. You have absolutely no need for anything beyond a submariner.
@@ChristopherNegroni it only pisses me off because I am a Saturation diver and I've never prioritized buying a seadweller. I'm gagging for one but I'm always spunking my cash on other shit. Good for you anyway dude. Enjoy your watch.
"Lightly polished" on a few years old watch 😮🤔🙄? Total No Go for me, while I never look at my warranty card so it could be written Taylor Swift on it I couldn't care less... I have bought watches from the 90's who had never ever been polished, who cares if it has few scratches when all the metal and original shape are there?
Hard to say from an investment view. The original Kermit’s have collectibility within themselves as there are variations, like the fat four and some bezels that faded more than others like the first batch. However the SD4k was made for a shorter amount of time, and less people bought them. Having said that they were both meant to be mass produced so from an investment standpoint neither is great. Ive had mine since 2005. My company originally had a partnership with Rolex that was so tight that Rolex put COMEX on the watch face for them.
Enjoy!
COMEX co branded Rolexes, some of the most collectible 👌🏼 thanks for sharing and watching
congrats on a stunning watch h and for the great video , stylish editing
Thank you Mark 🙏🏻
Haha.. Great Video Negroni! I have a James Cameron - 2014. Its a block but its beautiful. Enjoy your watch in good health!
I’ve always loved the dial of the James Cameron. It’s very special. If only Rolex would put that dial on a sub! Ugh!
It's gorgeous, congrats!
Thank you!
Awesome watch!!! Congrats Chris! Do you still have this SD4K in your collection? I have this and the noDate in my collection! Your vids are great!
Hey brotha, unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I got the call for a new watch and the SD4k had to go 🥲 new video coming soon. Thanks for watching!
@@ChristopherNegroniyou let the SD4K go? You know it’s almost impossible to find it …prices are increasing drastically as people recognize how short it was produced and how perfect dimension it has
@@impexRQ yea unfortunately I don’t have unlimited funds and I got a call for something I wanted more, video on that coming soon. But quick look at pricing there’s still quite a few out there for better prices than what I payed as the market in general continues to slide. I do agree long term the watch will be sought after. Great watch
Congrats again on another phenomenal watch...Mr. Negroni! That 40mm sure does wear smaller than your typical SD. Hurry up and make cocktails with the SD....🤣😂🤣
On a side note: I was shopping for tennis shoes at Fashion Valley here in SD, stopped by the Rolex Boutique (window shopping) the AD sales rep. came out and invited me to come in....long story short and to my surprise I walked out with a Rolex bag full of goodies (coffee table books) and she added my name to the wait list for the Rolex Subby NO DATE, gave me her card and days later sent me a postcard telling me that she will call me once it becomes available!!!! will I get the call....We shall see!!!!
Thank you Luis! And that is amazing! You should absolutely take care of that relationship. It’s hard to find caring AD’s like that.
Great video
Watch of my dreams right there, simple, capable and rugged. I’m in NZ where there isn’t a massive used market and sadly buying from overseas would add thousands in tax, so for now, still just a dream…
Enjoy your SD4K!
There are plenty of reputable grey market dealers. But I understand import fees can be a killer
@@ChristopherNegroni I’ve found a few really nice examples even the odd NOS, maybe on my next trip to the US
Get yourself to Singapore 🇸🇬
Great looking watch!
Thanks Tony
Congrats!! What a great watch!!
Thanks brotha ✊🏼
Great video, keep it up brother!
Thanks Kurt!
yeah when the sub leaves to make room for the kermit, this one will slide in
Had it git the new 136660 sits in the wrist better plus AR coating, but if you have small wrist this is one of the best Rolex ever!
Deepsea is cool but it’s too tall for any wrist
@@ChristopherNegroni na mate only 3 ml difference, all small guys think that 😁
@@Leftystrat lol small guys… alright bud, enjoy your hockey puck 😜
@@ChristopherNegroni thanks mate ! Cool video btw
@@ChristopherNegroni 👍🏼😎 thanks, that’s a good tip.
Please I'm not trying to scare monger but you also need to consider safety not just insurance. If they pull a knife or injury you its not about the insurance! Personally I think the high risk areas are high end areas and tourists areas so be very aware, best to take something that's not well known or a look a like homage
Congrats Negroni, wear it in good health…did you sell the black submariner?
Yeaaaaa, I did. Again. 🙃
@@ChristopherNegroni makes sense cos no need for it with you new SD 👍
@@ChristopherNegroni as iconic as a black submariner is, your new purchase is better.
@@sammyd6895 yea I would have loved to keep it but it wouldn’t get the wrist time it deserved. I want a concise, thoughtful collection when it’s all said and done.
@@ChristopherNegroni Good thinking, collection looking amazing so far👌
Did you do the cigar shots just for AKB?
Just for AKB 😉 AKB come back!
@@ChristopherNegroni very much appreciated!
And I love you @Mathis
It’s a stunning watch - it’s the last true Sea dweller… if you want to go bigger , go Deepsea blue otherwise stay with the original SD4K
Definitely don’t want a bigger watch
The Pinnacle Dweller 🤌🏼
High end producition and scripting, as always congrats! Is that the same one Deigo M has? And would you know true lug to lug? congratulations and what is next on the radar 😂
No, Diego has the pre ceramic model. Very similar but this one actually has a shorter lug to lug at 46.5 something like that. That’s not including the solid endlink. Next…. Whatever I get the call for 😆 I’m on many list.
Since now Watchfinder channel is not doing anymore talking hands stick, are you trying to replace them 😂
I have better hands. More masculine and weathered 😆
Is now still a good time to buy one ,may 2024 and there fetching 11700 sterling
If you want the watch, yes. Buy the best example you can find because they don’t make them anymore. They may go down more but they can certainly go up. If you’re buying the watch to wear it doesn’t matter much.
@ChristopherNegroni im hoping for a long term investment even if small ,but one that i can wear thats certainly different if you know what your looking at , cheers for the reply and keep up the good work 👏
@@nasty9317 thank you! Long term you’ll be fine with this model. *not financial advice 😅
Hi! After having it for 6 months now, how does it wear? Isn’t it too heavy for everyday use? Thank you.
I wouldn’t say it was too heavy but it was unfortunately a victim of consolidation into the 126610LV submariner. Better everyday piece
Interestingly mine is polished inside clasp 🤷♂️
Some of the very last SD4ks 2016-2017 had polished clasps
I own it. Shame its so thick or it would be perfection
It’s a seadweller. I think that’s part of the charm. But I get you. I think that’s what the sub is for 😅. Thanks for watching!
Just your personal choice between 116600 vs 124060? And wny?
SD4k it’s more special
@@ChristopherNegroni thanks man! I’m trying to sort things out, had a chance to give a try 124060 and noticed I would prefer a bit thicker case.. and then saw 116600.
@@michaelpetrov6896 can’t go wrong with either. But having a date is nice for everyday use
Love, love, love the SD4K, but it's a horrible investment. It is still underappreciated, and that's not going to change.
A used SD4K costs roughly the same as a brand new Sea-Dweller. So, yeah, it's become more valuable, but pretty much in sync with the level of inflation.
Yea I wouldn’t buy any watch as an investment. Maybe a store value but not an investment. Buy because you love first
Wrist size? Is this too much for a 6.5-6.75 wrist?
If you’re comfortable with it. It should work
Not only did they make it for only 2.5 years, they didn’t make that many of them. Do the math. The future math.. $$$$
lol the future math. Well the reality is any of the modern Rolex pieces are not really that rare. Maybe in contrast to other models but no where near as rare as vintage models. Rolex makes a lot of watches these days. But I see your point
I will buy a NOS stickered one if anyone has one for me thanks
To 95% of guys who own Rolex , it's a submariner lol
Exactly. But if you know, you know
@@ChristopherNegroni touche'
@@ChristopherNegroni I thought you hated that saying.
Negroni!
DC 😎
Her har du ikke fulgt med. Denne klokken er priset meget høyt. Er oppdaget av samlere for flere år siden.
Interesting
It's not though. Prices have come down significantly since the COVID watch buying boom. A mint condition 116600 sells for less than a brand new 126600. If you want NOS with stickers, yeah, you're gonna pay a $4000 premium, but since you're gonna peel the stickers off anyway, why pay extra for them?
It always makes me puzzled why the vast majority of people who own seadwellers think it's an appropriate watch considering they will never use the helium escape valve.
You have absolutely no need for anything beyond a submariner.
I have no need for a Porsche gt3 to drive to work but I want one. That’s the definition of luxury. You don’t need it. We don’t even need watches.
@@ChristopherNegroni it only pisses me off because I am a Saturation diver and I've never prioritized buying a seadweller. I'm gagging for one but I'm always spunking my cash on other shit.
Good for you anyway dude. Enjoy your watch.
😍👊👍🙏
🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
"Lightly polished" on a few years old watch 😮🤔🙄? Total No Go for me, while I never look at my warranty card so it could be written Taylor Swift on it I couldn't care less... I have bought watches from the 90's who had never ever been polished, who cares if it has few scratches when all the metal and original shape are there?
Lot to unpack there but I’ll boil it down simply, different strokes for different folks
Nice video. I think you know a lot of things about rolex. What do you think about 16610lv kermit vs 116600 SD4K for the investment point?
Hard to say from an investment view. The original Kermit’s have collectibility within themselves as there are variations, like the fat four and some bezels that faded more than others like the first batch. However the SD4k was made for a shorter amount of time, and less people bought them. Having said that they were both meant to be mass produced so from an investment standpoint neither is great. I would buy the one you like most so you can’t lose either way.
