I wanted a Rolex Explorer white dial desperately. Was told I had to buy some stuff at the dealer first, ( which I did). I was also told I couldn’t just order it, I had to come meet the owner of the store. He told me he’d see what he could do. Over the next year I read the unfavorable reviews about Rolex dealers. I decided to buy an Omega Seamaster professional. After the pandemic ( around a year later) I got the call from the dealer. Told him I no longer wanted the watch. He couldn’t believe it. I said sell it to someone else. I no longer want a Rolex and will not support this kind of behavior in any way. When Rolex are readily available I might consider it.
Glad you came to your senses. I have always found it both interesting and disgusting that consumers would humiliate themselves to such a degree to buy a Rolex. I just do not get it. It's reasonable these retailers and even flippers are in private, laughing and making fun of the irrational games people are willing to play. And congrats on your Omega. There are so many wonderful options by so many manufacturers.
Excellent if all of us do the same Rolex will behave. There are so many nice watches out there, Omegas , Grand Seiko, Longines, Oris, etc.etc. That you can purchase the same day that you cross the door of the AD….. I just bought a GS Omiwatari is excellent , Rolex is doomed its future
@@masterwatchJ.C. Biver is one of the few true insiders ive heard speak openly about employees getting instructed to create artificial scarcity. Its 100% real and widespread.
I just don't get why they would be incentivized to do this though. Don't they want to be the ones to sell you the watch? Instead of you having to resort to a grey market dealer instead? Or is it because these ADs have already backdoored so many of the stock to said grey market dealers that they made their money and that it's no longer their concern at the end of the day?
On hell yeh. I know this for a fact. Got a Batman a few years back. I knew this AD had 11 in stock. Whilst waiting for it to be bought down from the safe, someone walked in and asked for one. Store worker straight up said sorry we don’t have any.
@@elrey78 I've heard and witnessed some pretty unbelievable practices and made me definitely not want to buy a Rolex to be honest. I like Rolex watches I really do, but all the bad AD underhand dealing is very unfair to the good dealers and Rolex. I think Rolex's acquisition of Bucherer might help them but I think the pricing has gone way out of control. For me a Submariner Date [2023] should be £7,500 at retail and someone who has saved up for one should be able to buy one. I think Rolex have a huge challenge on their hands and I think all manufacturers will be following a more vertical approach of B to C, the AD model I don't think is going to work for much longer if things continue. AD's have a future but they have to deal with the Rolex situation.
I was just in Switzerland last week. Went to several boutiques and tried on everything from Oris to Zenith to Moser and Girard Perregaux. All of the staff were incredibly friendly and approachable.... except for Rolex. "Hi there, do you happen to have any...." "NO, WE DO NOT HAVE ANY WATCHES TO SELL"
I was just in Germany and in Spain the last couple weeks and 4 ad’s had nothing to sell except in Alicante there was 1 rose gold sky dweller for sale but nothing else .
No ADs have any stock of any watches that are in demand, and for sure in Switzerland they will not sell you one if you are not local. All ADs are (apparently) instructed to sell to their local market first, so if there is already a wait-list from local buyers you have no chance. The only option is if you know someone local who can put their name on the wait-list for you
Regarding discontinuing the Pepsi. ADs have no clue whatsoever. Each week they receive a delivery from Rolex HQ. ADs don’t even know what’s in the delivery. So they definitely won’t know which model will be discontinued. If an AD tells you they know, they are lying. My friend’s family owns one of the biggest ADs in my city. I can tell you they have no clue what Rolex will do until it happens.
Agree. They don’t know until they open the box. A sales person in NY told me -10 years ago a shipment will arrive tonight. Come back tomorrow and we’ll see if it’s in there. I showed up and was lucky to walk out with what I wanted. Weird way to do business. Watches are about scarcity and they like to keep it that way.
ADs aren't really hurt by the price dropping, other than using it as leverage to sell non-Rolex stuff they sell. The sale of Buchera to Rolex is how Rolex will get a command of their garbage ADs.
BUT -- if YOU owned an AD you'd be saying the opposite. Look, if you're a broke dick, we get it. But prices aren't collapsing. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! I know you're hoping they do so you can maybe buy a watch someday but too many people in this world can actually afford the watches. No one cares if you think they cost too much. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
couple years ago I walked into a Rolex AD to enquire about an explorer II. I was told I could get it if I spent $5k on something like jewelry. I said I'd get back to him and I didn't. several months later, I came back, but not to the Rolex AD, instead it was the Patek, and I got a Nautilus. Rolex always tries to say their watches are in high demand and they can't make them quick enough, (i mean only a million a year). If I'm going to beg and plea, I might as well do that for a Patek.
I totally agree with you. However, I met a wonderful AD in Harrods London she was brilliant genuine and kind. I enjoyed getting my Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust I was happy I achieved getting the watch but I really enjoy my Tudor Royal which is my go-to. I just got myself a Navitimer, Breitling. It is awesome I love it. My Rolex ,I wore for a while but I enjoy Breitling and Tudor brand somewhat better now. I am now looking at Ciga a Japanese brand ( I never thought I would go to Asia ever ) The brand is a Watch Prize Winner of 2021 the design of these watches are phenomenal. So thinking of treating myself for the price.
Do the math 1,000,000 per year divided by number of AD 1446 equals 692 a year per AD, minus 12 months that's almost 58 rolex a month per store. Those list should be filled and done by now. That's why I'll never buy a rolex. I have to beg them to take my 10k. People should stop buying from them.
I've lost all interest in watches and refuse to jump through hoops just to buy what is ultimately a mass produced Rolex. my money is now spent on hobbies where the retailers actually appreciate my custom
This will be picked up en masse soon. Doesn’t matter if we’re talking about car manufacturers, video game developers, or watch companies - all brands are abusing the customer base and the only logical outcome is an active disengagement from the market.
I don't think it's that kind of production issue. As discussed in the video, Rolex have to predict demand. They likely underestimated the Pepsi demand and possibly changed their production line for other models, thereby reducing the rate of production of Pepsi. So the "production issue" is simply they cannot make them fast enough because they reduced production, possibly a while ago. This also matches with the idea that they over-produced Batmans by comparison, which is why ADs are getting more of those
Replica is replica. Rolex is Rolex. Standards are much greater. Pretty sure Rolex makes their bezels to insanely high standards. What is a pass for China isn’t a pass for Swiss
The homages are 2-piece fused/glued. Rolex for some reason refuse to do that, and insist on making them out of a single piece of ceramic. Probably so it's perfectly smooth all the way around, and a fraction more robust. But I hate the off-red and purplish-blue it can create.
I went to an AD two days ago to have an appraisal on a ring updated from the last one I had done 11 years ago for it and told them I was also interested in a watch for myself and my wife. Having a 'milestone' birthday today (the 19th) I thought I would reward myself for a job well done thus far. The lady led me to the Rolex display with the caveat that, 'these are our display models not for sale and we don't have anything in inventory' going directly to the 'year long waiting list' blah, blah, blah. I told her it was pointless to look then (but I did) and I would just have to go to a larger market if that were truly the case. She wished me luck. Talk about a put off.
If you want a Rolex and don't mind a flight, go to Hong Kong, Rolex dealers have watches there. Also on the Asian grey market you can find good watches at retail or even below. I'm based in Istanbul and there is an influx into the grey market from Chinese luxury watch buyers who are now struggling due to the economic problems caused by the disastrous crash in the residential property market. Many are hungry for dollars and in Istanbul, physical gold of equivalent value. China has been the main cause of the scarcity as they were the biggest market for years now, but they will be the cause of further reductions as more of them start to sell. Forget the dealers in Europe and the west in general (unless you're willing to go to Asia) , and check the grey market instead (be sure anything you look at is genuine). You might also get lucky if you're ever flying through Dubai, we traveled back from Jakarta about a year ago and a colleague of mine bought, on the spot, a Rolex Kermit which was on display. Generally, be patient, you will see more Rolex pieces become available.
@@brianmsahin You're funny. ADs in Dubai won't even sniff in your direction if you're not a local. To say that some regular dude walked into a Dubai AD and bought a Kermit on display is fake news. I don't know about HK or much of Asia, but Dubai is not a stocked market.
Great discussion as always. I have completely lost faith in the integrity, honesty and moral compass of how Rolex dealerships operate. Don’t trust them, I hate any haggling and dishonesty and profiling on customers I will never ever buy another Rolex again. And I’m selling my Rolex as well. It’s ridiculous don’t need it. Sorry for the rant.
I’ve agree totally. I had two Rolex watches,a Milgauss and an Airking. I wanted the Tiffany or green OP and had been on the wait list. Also wanted the Hulk once first released but never got one. Sold both my Rolex watches at the height of the craziness and made a nice profit. I won’t even contemplate Rolex now.
This is the first time I hear about Rolex dealers having to order watches , have a specific number of each reference they can order etc. Makes much more sense than the “oh Rolex just sends us watches and we don’t know what we’re going to get” crap. Thanks for this episode!
I’m so glad I got beyond my desire to have a Rolex. I will not jump through hoops or kiss up to someone in order to buy anything. Once you take the power back an entire world of great watches opens up.
I can appreciate your attitude. Congrats on your realization...one less time-waster who isn't interested in Rolex watches that I have to wait in line behind. The hoi polloi just make everything more difficult for long time collectors who don't care about prices and future values and this other stupid shit. I seriously wish they'd just give these people their f-ing Submariner or Explorer II so they'd shut up about it. People are grinding these poor Rolex Sales Associates into the ground for all kinds of stuff they will literally NEVER BUY. No wonder they're rude assholes; they're sick and tired of little broke twats demanding a $7,000 watch from them like it's a civil right! And I've been collecting Rolex GMT Masters since 1992. Now I want the new ref. 126718GRNR but people just will not get out of the way, demanding to be on a "list" that doesn't even exist. So I'm not even trying to buy it from an AD -- I'm waiting for one to show up on the secondary market like I always did...before the idiocy. And when I find one, I'll pay what it costs. I just want the watch. But it is beyond irritating when these pimply faced green pea, pink assed little kids and their newfound temporary crypto wealth start log jamming the watch market when they don't even want the watch and are completely indifferent to the brand, like you are. So... Cheers!!! Here's to you!!! Let's hope more lukewarm horology folks follow your example.
The prolific Rolex scarcity rumour mill cracks me up. They literally sell 1.5m+ watches a year, compared to 500k at Omega, and 35-70k each for truly high-end watchmakers like PP, VC, JLC. They have a 1/3 market share. I understand demand is strong and so the waiting lists are legit, but let’s not pretend that Rolex watches are rare. They are absolutely everywhere. It’s an absolute mass market brand, and yet so many people talk proudly about “getting the call” from their grubby ADs as if they got into Yale Law. It’s hilarious.
Rolex is more about marketing than watches. Not that I dislike their watches. There’s a reason why they are liked. But it’s overhyped and there are so many better choices out there.
Data point for you...spent 2+ years on a list waiting on a Polar Explorer II, was finally told by a salesman that they just weren't seeing many of those, so I added a no-date Sub to my list...2 months and 6 days later, I got a call that my no-date Sub was in! So, as frustrating as it has been, I'm glad I didn't write off my AD.
It's so funny this isn't new news. They have been doing this for decades with the Daytona. A very large AD I know in a major US city explained to me back in 2014 that he had dozens of steel Daytonas in the safe and per Rolex he had to have his staff slowly call his best customers and say "they just got one in and they could have it but they had to buy it now". During this crazy market that started in 2017 my local dealer in a small town always has steel models in stock for those they want to sell them to
Got my Rolex Pepsi i Oct '22. Asked for it in January '22 to celebrate a big promotion and 20 years with my wife. It was a nice surprise when I went to visit in October and they had it for me. Didn't know before I showed up. They also got an anniversary cake for my wife and I from Cake Boss.
Was told the same by one AD but another told me different. They get a consignment note in advance, which makes sense from a security pov in transit. Also when I got my 2 tone sub the girl said she hoped to have good news very soon....2 weeks later she confirmed it
This makes sense,I received a phone call after one month of being on a list for an Explorer 2 while dial. I was told I could have one in 3 months if I paid 20% deposit,3 months and 3 days later I picked it up. Incidentally I don’t have much history with the AD,just a service and polish on a datejust I bought 33 years ago.
Doesn't really matter to me. I will never pay over retail for a watch. People forget 5 years ago you could get about a 10% discount from MSRP on any Rolex you wanted and walk out of the AD with it. I am not playing these games with AD's or gray market losers/horders.
ADs played games with me. I bought a 124270 Explorer, but it was a 5 month journey. In April of 2023, I was told that there were no more allocations for the explorer and that I would have to inquire in November for 2024 availability. I mentioned I wanted to wear one for my wedding in late September...Fast forward to late September. They magically happened to have 2 in stock not allocated to a specific buyer and was told that I could purchase it. It just so happened this was the week of my wedding. So my experience was bittersweet, staff was super nice and congenial but I have to raise an eyebrow on their business acumen.
Good discussion, but I feel like something important was left out, and that is that IF it gets discontinued, it'll be because they've changed it slightly (f.ex changed bezel paint/technology), and there is a new ref of the same model. They'll never discontinue the pepsi as a model, for obvious reasons. So I think this should've been pointed out
Never say never. And Rolex obviously loves free advertising (hence they stood idly buy and watched the grey market flipping shenanigans that they could have easily crushed). Discontinuing the Pepsi would be huge news in the watch world and create huge demand for the most recent refs.
I agree, but it might take a while before it’s reintroduced- could be a few years. When they discontinued all of the 5 digit GMTs they only released the all black ceramic GMT first… i believe the yellow gold one was first, followed by the steel and the pepsi came a few years later but only in white gold. I could be wrong, but I think there was also a time when there was only a coke and no pepsi back in the 70s or 80s, when they released the “fat lady”
4 years waiting for a GMT Meteorite dial at an AD where I've spent $50K on Rolex... and nothing. I then find out a guy waited 2 weeks at the same AD... why? He spent closer to $500K on "stuff"
You can buy a sophisticated Jaeger LeCoultre, one complication away from being a grand complication for the price of a Rolex. The absolute best part is that they are readily available. They are not subject to passing fashions and are truly heirloom pieces. You can wait for your Pepsi, I’ll time your two years on my perpetual calendar.
We all know that Rolex is a master marketer and that they alone control the narrative and that gets the community talking which further helps Rolex in their strategy… we all know models will come and go but given the facts of how important the “Pepsi” is, it’s highly unlikely to ever be gone for good… it was recently discontinued then reintroduced to a standing ovation which will sooner or later happen again… Last week on holiday I visited my ad and was going to pick up a new sprite.. when I went in to pick it up I was given my choice of any gmt in any configuration I wanted and they were all in stock.. I questioned the rumor of the pepsi being discontinued and the feeling from the ad was that it’s still a bezel production issue and they still get them in but not as often as the others. Bottom line is buy what u like and enjoy the ride….
@@ScotchOnyx all modern rolexes are pretty ugly. Fashion watches arent they... A rolex is often the sign of a distinct lack of character. If youve that sort of money to throw about buying a watch? At least get something interesting. Its the least creative watch brand there ever is or ever was. With their histiry you think they would dip into something a bit more creativee or develop new movements or something. Even if i had the money? Nope. Maybe a 1920s vintage rolex marconi jump hour but ive already basically got one, cost me 70 quid and its got a nicer case than the rolex one with art deco engraving.
Been to my AD yesterday. He said they are not taking orders any more for it, and are not putting names down for it. He said, as far as they are concerned its diacontinued.
Hi Jenni, this is easily one of the best videos I have watched. Very educational on the process behind the scenes and makes so much sense. Your husband has put it so well.
If the watches you see at ADs were from stock that was manufactured a while ago, and the tooling has changed, then the Pepsi scenario could be exactly the Tiffany blue scenario. They made too many Batmans and not enough Pepsi to match demand, they (perhaps) have a lower volume supply now due to retooling so they are trickling the remaining Pepsi out based on their inventory and production rate. This would match both with observation, and the claim of "production issues"
I think you are right. It's a good way to clean up the wait lists for people who are hanging on forever for a Pepsi, and move them into a Batman. It's also a way to move on the sheisters who just want to buy and flip. I think Rolex ideally want every piece hovering around the aftermarket price and not well below it, to discourage flipping, but also not go so low so that people feel burned if they do sell their Rolex. Not losing much or any on a flip is one of Rolex's pride points. Since the Pepsi is one of the few remaining models to have this problem so I think it will happen. Mind you I think they deliberately manipulate the Daytona so it does sell way more on the grey market, so ADs can use these as big carrots, and maintain Rolex prestige. Daytona is a special case. The AD who is stockpiling 40+ Pepsi GMT's knows what's up.
Addendum: So before my birthday dinner out tonight (now yesterday), I took my wife to the AD so she could look at the watch I had selected for her which was a 'Datejust' with diamonds around the bezel and on the dial. She was fine with it except she changed the dial from blue to mother of pearl. They said it should be in by Spring. Then the small talk ensued, she had some of her jewelry cleaned and a glass of champagne. I showed her the one I wanted (Submariner steel with date) similar to the Submariner (without date) I had back in the 80's and sold. The lady had a tray she was carrying Heathers jewelry around on with some gloves on it then lifted them up... the Submariner I wanted was on it! Three of them I had talked to before all came over and said Happy Birthday! Adding that they had a shipment arrive right after I left LOL, of course I know they had it all along but wow, I was still surprised and of course I haven't taken it off since dinner!
I like this format of engagement in the topic but find it irritating that Elle seemed to keep interrupting Kia when he tried to elaborate on something… Thanks for the insight on how Rolex ADs get their watches quarterly.
It was worse than that. Numerous times he tried to give us lots of additional insight and she just cut him off to run her sewer -- and effectively SAY NOTHING. But we'll never know what he wanted to say now. Freaking asinine interview...
I had a passion for clocks and watches since I was little, and for a while I even entertained the idea of becoming a watch repairer (I did a brief period of apprenticeship, too), then the interest waned and I got bitten by the bug of cameras and photography. Now that my original passion has rekindled, I've been looking for watch-related content on RUclips and found your channel. You're one of my favourites. I love your enthusiasm and genuineness. You and Kai are a joy to watch and listen. Keep up the good work! Cheers! //Rick
Actually in the auto industry dealers are often forced to buy a certain number of certain kinds of cars with them not having any say on the exact cars. It's a matter of their overall contract.
That’s what I’m thinking. If he holds them until next yr and it’s not discontinued he’s gained nothing. Sad. And makes me think: HQ must know - they haven’t received the information about the customer who purchased it. My pt being: those who say Rolex can’t stop flipping are in denial. There are many relatively easy ways Rolex could expose the ADs flipping and pull their allotment.
My Rolex AD (Orlando FL - Mayors) told me that the reduction in Pepsi GMTs is related to production problems, but they are hopeful that it will be fixed and production will get back to earlier amounts. 🤷🏻
the chemistry you guys have is gold, I ship you as a couple! Jenni corrects him once regarding chef/boss, Kai repeats it though and Jenni let's it be, probably explaining it afterwards off camera and of course, we all got what Kai was saying, THANK YOU FOR THE TALK
Ich habe dieses sehr informative Gespräch über Rolex genossen. Vielen Dank, dass Sie Ihre Einblicke in die Rolex-Produktion und den Versand in die AD-Welt geteilt haben. For the record, the AD's around Europe and the United States parrot the line that Kai repeated about "we get so few of the sports steel models and the demand is so high"...In reality, the grey market is flooded with inventory (at higher prices) with stickers still attached to the new watches!
selling is much more easier than production (if Rolex has some pepsi bezel issues) - there are so many rich people and not only who can afford and want buy premium class watch.
Great episode as always. I still find it hard to believe the Pepsi will ever be discontinued - so many countries have red white blue flags so it will always be popular. I got the Tudor Opaline; prefer the dial (but do wish the bezel colors were brighter). Another thought on the AD owner hoarding 40 Pepsis - he’s a non Bucherer store and thinks (or knows) his days are numbered. Or he is flipping them and since GER is technically on recession (sorry!) he’s holding them hoping prices go back up on the grey market after the economy recovers.
ADs want to sell to grey market dealers because they are willing to either buy in bulk or pay above retail. ADs can easily sell to an average Joe, but the average Joe wouldn’t buy multiple pieces or pay above retail. In the past few years, ADs have been able to maximise profit by selling to grey market dealers. But the problem is these dealers have deserted as flipping is dead. So AD’s profit and revenue this year will fall vs last year. If it’s a listed company, the share price will drop because investors are looking for growth in stocks. So ADs now need to lure dealers back to buy in bulk so ADs are perpetuating lies and rumours. They are using the carrot-and-stick strategy. It’s so obvious.
You’re half right. No doubt ADs flipped to greys and made them take less desirable models as part of the deal. But to say the ‘grey market/flipping is dead’ is laughable. Exp IIs are still 30% over retail. Batman/girl 40-50%. Prices have come down but still laughably high.
I remember meeting Kai at the watch finder/ Roger Smith event and had no clue who he was at the time, so I proceeded to ask/say- “it’s so cool to meet enthusiasts, I’m xyz btw, work in abc profession, what do you for a living?” And Kai looked at me.. paused and said “I run a business if my own”. I was like ah cool, awesome, all the best! Will hopefully see you around. I cringe till this day cus I couldn’t recognise him in the wild. My bad man! Will def try my best to recognise you next time.😅
Excellent show , I just got my Pepsi last month and my AD said we probably won’t be getting any more Pepsi’s . So yes something is going on at Rolex . Maybe we see the 75th Anniversary Coke in 2025
I walked into an AD last summer with no prior relationship or purchase history. I wanted a 36mm explorer and had saved all my side cash for a few years. They put me on the list and a few months later called me with the watch. I know it's not the most hype model, but you CAN walk in and get what you want without playing all the games. I don't mind the patience factor because it makes it worth it. Everything in our world is instant gratification. I'm ok with Rolex not being that way even if the motives aren't pure.
I’ve been told by my AD that if they don’t sell their watches quick enough, Rolex simply won’t give them more watches of that specific model. I find this story easier to believe than an AD hoarding 40 Pepsis.
Yes. Many references comes into the market in production batches and this is often linked to the release of adverts (billboards, prints or social media post) too from what we have observed.
Chef is a restaurant term, head cook basically. What Europeans like to refer to that translates to in English is Chief. I know that's what you call people in charge at work, but it translates poorly. In English we don't use Chief outside of: Native Americans, US Navy senior enlisted, CEOs, CFOs, etc, but those are just titles. The word you're looking for is manager, boss, owner, etc.
ADs : « you have to start the journey with us and buy a few watches and then we will put you on wait list » I walk away right away and buy something else that is available. The way this is « un »managed by Rolex is pathetic.
I don’t mind at all if they have, as rumors say, indeed discontinued the Pepsi. The Pepsi has never been my cup of tee, and either the Batman/girl is. I‘m just lucky with my taste. 😊🍀
Happened to me recently . Said no steel sky dwellers in stock. Hard watch to get hold of. Not something we sell to first time buyer. But you can purchase a white dial pre owned Rolex certified sky dweller for £19,500. I just walked out. Disgusting behaviour when AD’s play these stupid games!
hello…my AD in Spain told me that Pepsi has production problem, Rolex recalled all watches from the retailers and have not sent anything else to the market ever since. Cannot say this is true or not, just saying what the AD told me. Cheers.
I don’t buy it. The Pepsi IS the GMT. It’s literally the original design. Maybe they’re trying to make it more exclusive, but discontinuing blro, seems a stretch.
Strange how I was in LA last year and I was just window shopping for the sake to see what was in inventory and the salesman saw me and asked if I wanted a Rolex. Don’t know if he was an actual AD or not it was a smaller store in the mall.
Coming on two years waiting for black OP 41 that my AD tells me she doesn’t see many of, this makes me angry at her. They don’t sell $500 jewellery, it’s only watches, and she only works in the Rolex section so wouldn’t even get commission from me getting another watch. Don’t know what to do at this point
I don't even want one but it makes me want to go to an "AD" just for the sake of an argument. I'd sit there whole day. "Sir, we're going to call the police if you don't leave". "Good, I was going to do the same for refusing to sell me the product you have in hand
Does anyone work for Rolex?? We never hear from a Rolex Rep from Marketing, PR, Production or Management. If any other company had the international rumours that Rolex does - we would see interviews from their representatives
I know this are all rumors, but I heard produciton shiffted heavily to Daytonas so they can fullfill everyone that has been waiting for years to get one.
The issue is that the person in charge of the QC for red and blue bezels at Rolex is on leave for 4 months. The colour of this bezel is difficult to produce, so this is the only person who can do it. That is the "production issue".
I see similar trends in the market for exclusive autos, some of which start with the dealers, others with factories. It's not possible to buy a new Ferrari today without having previously purchased other Ferraris from the dealer, else buyers go to the broader secondary market and buy a car that flips. However, Ferrari sells every car it makes, so the supply remains legitimately constrained. From this discussion, there's some uncertainty if Rolex supply is legitimately constrained or the bottlenecks are created artificially to maintain high prices. Does Rolex's purchase of Bucherer address the issue to eliminate bad behavior from some of the Rolex authorized dealer, or is Rolex looking to control Bucherer to maintain the appearance of supply constraints?

Ive been telling people for ages that AD's lie straight to your face. Artificial scarcity is a huge part of a sales employee's training.
this does seem to be true as Grey Dealers will actually tell you this also.

The only option is if you know someone local who can put their name on the wait-list for you
This is correct. Go to the AD in your own city, and you eventually will get what you want (within reason).
But you already knew that. Why'd you make a fool of yourself?
It’s because of who you are….has nothing to do with what they have. You don’t rate getting a watch. It’s just the way it is.

The sale of Buchera to Rolex is how Rolex will get a command of their garbage ADs.
price drop is just relative to lubricous prices during the pandemic, the demand is still cray high
BUT -- if YOU owned an AD you'd be saying the opposite. Look, if you're a broke dick, we get it. But prices aren't collapsing. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! couple years ago I walked into a Rolex AD to enquire about an explorer II.
If replica watchmakers can produce the ceramic pepsi bezel perfectly (or almost), I'd say rolex's pepsi bezel production issue is fabricated.
Single piece inserts? Or fusing two pieces? Not aware of anyone else making Pepsi bezels in a single ceramic insert.

This makes sense, because every time I've gotten a watch, my AD confirmed a month before the watch came in.
1.5 million for a world population of 8 billion doesn't sound like that much.
The point is that Rolex supply is the MOST among luxury companies
Preach smh
During this crazy market that started in 2017 my local dealer in a small town always has steel models in stock for those they want to sell them to
Rolex AD doesn't know anything at all about what's going on with production. Even here in Geneva they know nothing ;)

This video along with many others just reminds me why I will never buy a Rolex.
Lot of respect for a guy who wears 2 watch’s, I do the same sometimes apple watch and whatever else im wearing today tudor.
Good discussion, but I feel like something important was left out, and that is that IF it gets discontinued, it'll be because they've changed it slightly (f.ex changed bezel paint/technology), and there is a new ref of the same model. They'll never discontinue the pepsi as a model, for obvious reasons. So I think this should've been pointed out
Price will go up on the market?
Well we never know :)
Never say never. And Rolex obviously loves free advertising (hence they stood idly buy and watched the grey market flipping shenanigans that they could have easily crushed). Discontinuing the Pepsi would be huge news in the watch world and create huge demand for the most recent refs.
Generally people don't consider an iteration to be discontinuation
I agree, but it might take a while before it’s reintroduced- could be a few years. When they discontinued all of the 5 digit GMTs they only released the all black ceramic GMT first… i believe the yellow gold one was first, followed by the steel and the pepsi came a few years later but only in white gold.
I could be wrong, but I think there was also a time when there was only a coke and no pepsi back in the 70s or 80s, when they released the “fat lady”
My left ear really enjoyed your Chronext ad, Jenni, thanks.

Did you have a point? If someone wants a JLC, they'll just go buy it.
Rolex discontinuing Pepsi will never be true. Allocation of Pepsi probably changed as Rolex strategy to reduce hyped model to non Bucherer stores.

Loved this! You two do a great job together! Thanks very much.

ADs : « you have to start the journey with us and buy a few watches and then we will put you on wait list »
I walk away right away and buy something else that is available.
Cheers.
I didn't know diaper bags were a thing. Also to be on a waitlist for one, that's quite special.
Now I know why gastronomy is struggling for good staff, because all the chefs work at Rolex ADs 👨🏼🍳
Just came here to say I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who wears a luxury and a smart watch at the same time! 😆
Best of the both worlds 😂
I don’t buy it. The Pepsi IS the GMT. It’s literally the original design. Maybe they’re trying to make it more exclusive, but discontinuing blro, seems a stretch.
Strange how I was in LA last year and I was just window shopping for the sake to see what was in inventory and the salesman saw me and asked if I wanted a Rolex. Don’t know if he was an actual AD or not it was a smaller store in the mall.
They could be claiming production difficulties because they have them, but they want to make the point how sophisticated their techniques are.
So much for all those "people in the know" who predicted the Pepsi will be discontinued in 2024 ...
Been waiting on a simple rolex oyster 41 for over 2 years. No calls.. I have often gone by the dealer just to check in.. nada
I would visit another dealer. You've been had.
Outstanding Kai! I wear my watch and apple watch in the same manner! Jenni, I really enjoy your content! Cheers,
Thanks 🙏
I don't even want one but it makes me want to go to an "AD" just for the sake of an argument. I'd sit there whole day. "Sir, we're going to call the police if you don't leave". "Good, I was going to do the same for refusing to sell me the product you have in hand
FASCINATING information!! Love it!
All I wanted was a Pepsi - and the AD wouldn't give it to me!
Love this. ❤️ you two together are fantastic 🎉
Does anyone work for Rolex?? We never hear from a Rolex Rep from Marketing, PR, Production or Management. If any other company had the international rumours that Rolex does - we would see interviews from their representatives
Tesla is just the same as Rolex, no contact with the press.
my man's wearing two watches !!
I know this are all rumors, but I heard produciton shiffted heavily to Daytonas so they can fullfill everyone that has been waiting for years to get one.
Love this kind of insider discussion!
Insider? What?! 😂
Excellent discussion! I laughed at the Air King. It's the only Rolex I really like! 😂😂😂
Bought rolexes long before the shit show started mid 2016, i have no need for ADs now
Just recently subd to your channel and love your content. Lots of insight and love your chilled approach 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This couple is very competitive. She does not believe him, he knows it.
They will never stop making the Pepsi it's too good of a seller.
The issue is that the person in charge of the QC for red and blue bezels at Rolex is on leave for 4 months. The colour of this bezel is difficult to produce, so this is the only person who can do it. That is the "production issue".
I'm so glad ur husbands part of the channel now. Honestly waiting for the cat as well
I see similar trends in the market for exclusive autos, some of which start with the dealers, others with factories.
The employees should be buying the Pepsi watches and flipping them for more than they are making as an employee
