One thing a lot of people don't realize is, there are people who will take a super clone and then do some custom things to it to bump it up even more to look very authentic. Sometimes they'll even buy authentic parts to install in these super clones to make them even closer to the real thing.

As the person above me said. Frankensteins. Take a great superclone, throw on real genuine hands, crystal, dial, sometimes date wheel or bezel if needed. And for just a couple thousand you have an almost identical clone of a 30-40 thousand dollar watch.

My Dad gave me a AAA fake Rolex for my birthday, and he said he would buy me an original one if I was able to use and care for it for 20 years. I wore it every day as it looked very legit. The other day while he was playing with his grandchild I told him, Dad, you don't need to give me an original one, I can afford it myself now. However, I am somehow attached to the one you gave me. It's been 26 years and I have enjoyed it every day. He looked me in the eye and said: Son, you always had the original.

Rolex provides an ego boost for those who need one. My Timex provides perfect time, and I paid $35 for it at Walmart several years ago. At 4.27 on the other watch the circle looks a bit ropey and hits the edges of the triangle.

I guessed it right in the first minute. The crispness in the Rolex name and the font/colours was the giveaway. When it came to the engraving details, the small narrow machining I feel no fake watch maker would attempt because it looks aesthetically displeasing and it is riskier. That was my take anyway, the one on the left was a little too try hard with its bold engravings...

Im just surprised he didn't inspect the movement. Opening the case back usually tells it all...
He wouldn't know how to open it nor have the skill or balls to attempt it even if he did.
So one interesting thing about a deep sea is it requires a special size case back removal tool and since most non AD stores never deal with a deep sea they wouldn't have the tool to inspect the movement. Also you have to send in a deep sea to rolex to service it because the factory has the machine that can certify it to that crazy depth . A service at a AD cannot validate the warranty without this.
You’d have to be crazy to buy any Rolex without taking the back off, unless it’s from Rolex authorized dealer. The moment you look at that hairspring and see the adjuster instead of screw weights, it’s the detail that no super clone has got right.. yet

These fake Rolex's have completely destroyed the value of real Rolex's.
With more than 90% of Rolex's in the world being fake I'm not going to spend $17,000 on a watch only to have everyone who sees it thinking it's fake. Such a shame as I always thought Rolex's were the ultimate and always wanted one, not anymore.
You cant tell and you have a microscope and a real one next to it. Now imagine just walking into a stor and tge fake one is just sitting in the showcase. You would buy it and wear it for life and never know.

Believe me. You can compare fonts under a microscope but there is still a noticeable quality difference, and above all, the way an authentic Rolex looks under different lighting conditions is different. Fakes do not (yet) have achieved that. You need to swap out the bezel, hands and crystal for genuine parts to overcome that. But that will set you off a couple of thousand dollars.
You can tell from the first shot, real Rolexs anti-reflective sapphire crystal has a sheen(not so clear) to it while the fake one's just clear.
This is exactly what gave it away to me as well. The shine just made it look cheap imo. A Rolex is perfect. And the last thing you'd want is glare stopping you from being able to read the time on your Rolex.
The dial was to blue. And the besel action on the left had a distinct sound.

I'm 6 and a half minutes into the video and have seen at least 4 different parts of the left watch that are just manufactured lazily, maybe it's because I'm an apprentice jeweller that I'm noticing but they are big differences to me

I actually bought a vintage Two Tone DateJust with box but no papers from eBay after doing A LOT of research on that specific reference, it felt real and looked real when I received it but still sent it for a valuation and the valuation came back tripling what I bought it for 😎 I'm not a reputabilable 😉 dealer, maybe I should have a job at your friends shop 😆
I own this exact same watch. I knew from the beginning when you showed the marker at the 12 o’clock position… The dot was not centered inside the triangle…. I love my Sea Dweller!

The right one is clearly a genuine one. because on the original there is no glare on the glass that makes it harder to see the color gradation (especially on this james cameron edition, where the dial is the whole point).
The edges of the crown and the micro adjuster were much crispier, and overall finish on the right one is much finer.
Also, thickness of chrome circles around the hour markers are more accurate, and so on.
What about the movement? Balance wheel is the first thing to look at when you open the caseback

3:26 The triangle on the bezel seems to be narrow so the dot feels out of place on the left watch. But I can't tell if it's geniune or not, it just look better on the right watch.

I used to live in China. Shenzhen. Outside of Hong Kong. There is a five story building that sells nothing but fake copy watches etc. All five floors. Each floor has around 100 little shops. The Chinese are SO good at this. Creating copies. SO good. It’s scary. Very scary.

The fact that the pip was slightly higher, thus making it ‘off center,’ for me was the kicker on watch left. The engraving on watch right was impressive, but the fact that the pip wasn’t right was a dead giveaway away for me. IMO.

The one on the right, the silver coloured infills on the bezel is perfect. The one on the left wasn't crisp. I seen it immediately.

There's actually a better version than this one available. Funny how far the factories have come along with this- a few years ago it was all about who could mod their bezels with the best platinum fill. There were all kinds of formulas and tricks but today, there's no need for that.

4:38 on the left watch or #1 Rolex above the bezel where the watch band meets the bezel there’s a small indentation in the middle, that doesn’t exist on the other watch.Also the round white jewel thing in the middle of the triangle that you were showing is sitting higher, closer to the top on the left Rolex.
I waited in line for over 2 years to be “honored” as a chosen one to buy a DJ41… never again. I know guys that waited 5 years for a Daytona, took the sales rep and his wife to $500 dinners, had them to their homes for dinners done by extremely reputable chefs, and finally went to the grey market.

I chose correctly. What gave it away for me was when you compared the bezels of both watches. If you look carefully the bezel knurling going around the watch has very slight striations on the left one on the concaves. The watch on the right did not.
The AR coating is the most obvious giveaway. Knew at the beginning of the that the left one is fake because of all the glare it gives out. If they fix that you'll literally have the perfect copy

Very good advices for watches.
The crystal was an instant tell the first second you showed them to us. The fake itself is far from perfect, although you've tried to insinuate otherwise. These models are considered imperfect in the replica world, just because there is not a lot of buyers for them. You should source yourself the all black VSF submariner and compare it to gen :) For entertainment purposes obviously.
The rolex masterpiece tgats discontinued has to be the best rolex ever made. It looks perfect. Meteorite is a stunning dial wow.

At 4:31 they both missed the obvious difference. The one on the left if you look , the circle in the middle of the upside down triangle has a notch on top where the one on the right does not.

The trick to spotting the etched crown - just learned this on my Batman - shine a very bright light DOWN from about 12 o’clock towards it.
At 0:26 you can already recognize the fake. Just look at the reflection compared to the real one when it is under the camera. Either they have messed up the AR coating or there is none at all.
What good is two amateurs looking at two watches under a microscope.
To be honest, I really wish I could find one of these fakes to buy, as there's no way I will ever be able to afford a real one!
If a fake is good enough quality to fool experts, I would be more than happy to wear it 😅

My son purchased a super Rolex copy and it was perfect. The giveaway was when the back cover was removed and the balance wheel is compared. There is a huge difference between them but the rest of the movement is the same.

that's only because it's a lens at an angle.
Engraving on a real watch is simply as thin as it gets. They used to do it with a press, so it was not engraved, but simply cut. They wanted to replicate that style on modern watches, so this detail is done with a very thin line. The "E" was simply dirty, but on camera, it appeared wrong.

Like any game of chess, Rolex is going to have to add some type of unique marker/identifier that cannot be readily duplicated [until the fake product guys figure it out]. I don't know enough about how or what Rolex needs to do, but it is incredible that the fake can fool a dealer who knows how to spot a real Rolex from a fake until now.

You get the crown on the mk2 deep sea dial , also you didn't look for the etched crown on the crystal, its hard to see because of the thickness of crystal but it will be there.

I can always tell fake straight away from the 6 and 9 markers. Fakes have sharp edges and the real Rolex makers have softer, almost rounded edges. Easy to spot and works every time.

Any rolex you buy have it serviced by rolex and they will open it up and tell you if its real.
No what you want do is to have the watch authenticated by rolex BEFORE you purchase it.

First second i saw a left one i suspect the left one is repilica- light on the dial show the dial is not FLAT! you can see at 0:27. but of cource I have to wathc to the end to be sure.
Rule of thumb in the rep game if details like lazer ingraiving. The reps are usually much crisper.

I think the right one is the real one.
My thinking is as follows.
3:08-3:30 the left watch has a notch on the top dot at 12 oclock the right watch does not have this notch on the topside of the dot at the 12 o'clock mark.
I do not know anything about watches!
But the right not having a notch in top, looks better, therefore my guess is that rights the real one.
Can't wait till the end of the clip to find out what's what.
Edit: I was right about it and somehow this was a confidence booster.

Rolex videos normally cover three bits of information. How much you: paid, it's value today, it's worth tomorrow. It's refreshing to see a different kind of video. Thanks for all the effort. BTW, I hear that there are some very good Tudor "super clones" out there now.
You can easily tell these when side by side (the one on the right is definitely real), but if you’re looking at the fake by itself, it would hard to tell. The markers and lume texture are good giveaways. The crown should be more rounded on the edges vs the fake. Also the engraving is another. You should be able to see the material completely removed to make the letters. On most fakes it looks more like it was laser-etched with some of the metal in the middle of the letter still present…not sure if the guy guessing got the engraving mixed up, but the one on the right was much better. Finally the glass etching of the real one isn’t as good as fakes. The fake watches actually do a better etching than the real Rolex. The crown is much more clear and sharp in the fake.

Either way, good to know I guessed correctly but I wouldn't be able to tell unless I had a real one handy to compare to. Modern machining is crazy
Im looking at buying the same superclone..amazing. seems like the super clone is the one with the better clasp.
I bought a black dial, 2 tone stainless/gold 'AAA' Sub back in 1999 and it cost me $US870 and I still have it and it still looks very nice. I've had it serviced a couple times and the watchmaker said the movement was of good quality and it still keeps time within about 3 sec/day.....but its NOT the real deal and I never tell anyone that it is.
.......and now, the secret is OUT! My advice is to sell the POS watch, buy a classic car and splurge on a nice dinner in a flashy Hollywood restaurant. Who knows......you might even be offered a part in a B-Movie.
The glare of the crystal at the start was a first giveaway for me, and the dot in the bezel was the decider that nr 2 was the real thing.
i never understood how people are comfortable buying on the gray market. probably 50% of the stuff isn't what seller says it is. And the seller probably doesn't even know.
01:07 The Lume Pip seems to be slightly off to the right by fractions but enough to be a flaw for Rolex.

The 'ever so slightly' rough edges on the hands was the first giveaway. Then the pip being slightly high , then the 'rough' finish on the grooves of the bezel. This is a great rep but the standard Submariner reps are now even better. The price point is about $700 USD for one of these which is still a very expensive watch for a normal person.
It gets to the level where calling replicas bought from igrotum a "clone" is indeed more adequate than "fake".
