In terms of collectability, the 116600 wins every time since it was a very limited run. Plus you get the ceramic bezel in a 40mm package and still don't have that date bubble. Now in terms of everyday wear, the previous version (16600) might be a better option. Smaller profile, and it isn't as thick as the ceramic version. Also for the folks that like the Comex connection, the 16600 was the last model that Comex officially received from Rolex back in 1997.
That really is impossible to beat, timeless design, no cyclops, great size, well-proportioned case and super capable. You could go from a boardroom meeting to a saturation dive without ever having to change your watch.
The SD4k is indeed an absolute gem and to top it all off, it had a super short production run for Rolex standards. I wouldn't be suprised if someday it'll be just as collectible as the desirable vintage subs/seadwellers.

As much as I love the 5-digit seadweller, it can't be compared to the 6-digit 116600 in terms of collectability, to 16600 was produced for almost 2 decades or even longer than that, whereas the 116600 was only produced between 2.5-3 years max.

What I've heard is the adhesive couldn't handle the depth, and now they've advanced their adhesive technology. Regardless, the 116600 is where my sights are set. Much more pleasing lug proportions than even the 41mm (40.5mm) Sub.
It seems that the reason for the lack of the cyclops on the SD is because the glass is thicker, the date would not be readable due to the cyclops (distortion).
I actually have a sd 16600 for everyday wear which gets beat up in engine rooms on boats and does on average 2 dive a day. It’s fantastic. The bracelet stretched so I dropped a rubberb band on it. Then I have a 116600 sd4k which I bought thinking love the watch so much I will wear it when I dress up rather than my beat up 16600. But the sd4k has been in the. Cupboard for 99% of its life. So I hope it was a good investment or I can give it to my son one day.
I wouldn't call it rare. Almost of the jewelers that carry Rolex have one in their inventory. Just not a lot of people interested in them, either because they don't know about them, or because they prefer the thinner Submariner. The only people watching Sea-Dweller videos are the ones who are aware of them. In less than 3 months I'll be purchasing a 116600.
It performed poorly in sales while it was in production. It was hard to distinguish from the 116610/114060 Submariner and cost a lot more. Combined with the short production run, it's not a common watch to come across, and if you did, you'd probably mistake it for a Sub anyway.

Because the 16600 pre-ceramic Sea-Dweller was discontinued and replace by the 116660 Deepsea Sea-Dweller. There wasn't a Sea-Dweller for 6 years, until the release of the 116600 in 2014. Which is why he referred to it as the apology dweller. Then in 2017, Sea-Dweller celebrated it's 50th anniversary, and the 126600 43mm Sea-Dweller with the single red line and cyclops lens was released. 43mm is now the de facto size for the Sea-Dweller, making the 116600 the last 40mm Sea-Dweller, and the last Sea-Dweller without a cyclops, and the only 40mm ceramic Sea-Dweller ever produced.

A medical professional is the one doing that, and he's outside the hyperbaric chamber. The date complication is for everyday use, not for anything related to diving.

That's partially true. Rolex never put the cyclops on the original seadwellers because it would pop off under pressure since it's glued on to the crystal. Now with the SD43 and the advancement in glues they can apply that Cyclops on the crystal again for those deeper rated depth watches.

The cyclops date window is glued on, so it would not take pressure under water at the depth the SeaDweller is designed to go down.
