Yes I love that it has a date but no cyclops. From a few feet away it looks perfectly symmetrical and yet it has such a useful function. My eyes are good so I really don’t need magnification on the date.
Have a Sea Dweller 666 with the visible pin holes. From the 80's. Now on the 25th year on my wrist, clean every 5 years or so, one new mainspring and rotor clutch repair. wear it all the time even play squash with it on.
Based on looks alone the 16600 is my all time favourite Rolex. Also, I love how the Sea Dwellers are engraved on the case back - adds a little more interest to them vs the standard plain Rolex cases
I have so much love for the Sea-Dweller. Whilst the Sub has become a “cultural icon” in its own right, the Sea-Dweller still retains that pure professional diving instrument vibe. The fact that it’s less popular makes it more interesting imo
I think you're right for vintage, wrong for modern. The modern Sea-Dweller has fallen into every modernism that the sub has while also increasing the size needlessly. Vintage Sea-Dwellers are pure understated cool. They are functional dive instruments. The moderns ones as all modern Rolexes have become are jewellery.
I have the James Cameron mark 2. Aside from having THE best dial Rolex have ever made that only makes you fall in love with is even more as time goes on, you don’t own a DSSD to explore the depths of ocean, you own it to appreciate the capabilities of what it can do. A bit like owning a Bugatti Chiron or a McLaren F1, you don’t own one with the purpose of thrashing it around at top speed you own one for the appreciation of the beauty of its capabilities, each time you look at it embracing the engineering brilliance of what you have in your possession
I love the 16600 Sea Dweller. I've had my share of nice watches and still own six Rolexes. The Sea Dweller is by far my favorite though. It's just such a classic "tool" watch. Like a Submariner, but on steroids!
Was about to pull the trigger on a tritium Sea Dweller. Put it on, and it's just too thick for the size. Had the money in hand and the watch on my wrist...but I left with a Datejust. I'm used to big/heavy watches up to 44mm (omega, breitling, Seiko) but this just didn't fit right. I've tried submariners before and I like those more because they are a lot thinner. I wanted a sea dweller for 25 years, but just couldnt do it.
I have this exact watch. I love how durable and water resistant it is and i also prefer a smaller more low profile watch so it works way beter for my taste then the new giant sea dwellers. I bought it for less than 10k in 2021at the peak of the market. It is my most worn watch. I literally wear it every day. I never take it off even to swim. It is so comfortable and durable. It ages like fine wine. Thanks for the video. I followed.
Sd 43 50th anniversary is just so much nicer on my wrist . The subs are small and ok for a smaller guy but seadweller is just the bigger better looking brother
I think the Sub or Sea Dweller makes such a statement on its own it wears with intent on the arm of a man or a woman. I dive and I wear an eBay $36 Casio that has gone to the stern of the SS Coolidge. I wear my Sea Dweller to work in an office. The history of this watch and the Sub is amazing. I feel privileged to own and wear one.
The things I believe that keep the Submariner more sought after, are it's history, and it's size. For me, in a head to head comparison, the SeaDweller is the better piece, and the one that I find more desirable.
Love my Dweller. As subs have become a bit cheap and Chavy looking. Because everyone seems to have one. Including myself 😂. Sub for everyday use. Dweller for special or nights out.
I personally don't mind it. They got rid of the cyclops which can be annoying for accurate timing but there's no real reason to get rid of the date window. It doesn't harm the ability to read the watch and the movement already had a date complication. Taking it away would be forced inadequacy.
Good explanation. I have the same Rolex in a combination of black and gold.I don't know the exact year at the moment, but I think it's 2007 or 2017.Because it doesn't have a cyclops eye above the date display uninitiated amateurs think it is a Rolex fake but I don't have all the certificates and it is original .These watches are very rare and increasingly valuable especially for collectors. The watch works as it should without a problem.
16600 has NO CYCLOPS. You didn't mention it and it is the number one reason why I bought one of these instead of a Submariner.
Yes I love that it has a date but no cyclops. From a few feet away it looks perfectly symmetrical and yet it has such a useful function. My eyes are good so I really don’t need magnification on the date.
Agree completely. Even if I’m 3 years later. The cyclops annoys me on every watch I’ve had it on.
Rolex sea dweller 116600 is the best Rolex sport model ever made… perfect size, slimmer lugs , non cyclops … perfection !!!

Can't beat the look of a Sea-Dweller on a Tropic strap. Great under the radar look with the same vibe as the Sub, but a little less ubiquitous.

just got the two-tone sea dweller. Pretty happy with it.

Sea dweller is my daily beater, polar explorer for travel and gmt ceramic for semi formal smart casual look. Dj for dressier events

Z serial 16600 was my best purchase in my collecting career.
Not sure what it is but theres a slight clinky sound in the background of this video - a little bit distracting.
Came here to say the same thing.
This is why the last 40mm SD price is going up
Absolutely- the SD4K was perfection !!!
Love the shirt! Gotta get rid of that clinking noise though!

own both the 16600 and the 116660. NO CYCLOPS!!
Go with a Seadweller, less of them out there, a tad thicker, bad to the bone

Theo, I thought you were not a fan of the SD43 from your video reacting to Baselworld 2017. Didn't you find the size increase pointless?
Sea Dweller 2008 16600 on Rubber B wear a few days/wk and Tudor Pelagos blue for work. Smitten with my 116600 and Explorer 39mm full lume!
My 16600 and 116520 white dial are fighting for my attentions.
The Rolex sea dweller 116600 SD4K was the last true sea dweller and the best Rolex sport model ever produced
The comfort of the watch comes from the weight not dimensions. 40mm platinum would be a brick on the wrist. What's the weight of this piece?
Such a good vid - so descriptive yet no fluff - great articulator
Ahh.. yes, the Helium "particles" 😂😂
The first ref sea dweller was actually a single red.
Having both I prefer the DS SD weight size
bought a 16600 from T&H a few months ago …… love it,❤
good episode man!! super interesting.. learn something new about watches here a lot!
Sea dweller is sooo Much better!
I love that you said you are doing a "deep dive" into these watches!
Love my Dweller. As subs have become a bit cheap and Chavy looking. Because everyone seems to have one. Including myself 😂. Sub for everyday use. Dweller for special or nights out.
what do you think of the newest SD43?
what do you think of the newest SD43?
@@Laguna2013too big and chunky… and cyclops? 🙄
Bought my 16600 cause it doesn’t have that cyclops. Understated and low profile
Fun fact: doxa sub 300 was the first to add the helium escape valve. On its first dive watch. In 1967 by Jacques Cousteau.
Great video, shirt, kitchen, history lesson all wrapped into 1
That clinking sound is annoying AF!
I’m pressuring it’s more expensive than a sub though?
If you can afford the Sub or DS , you generally not worried about price lol
Deeper dive haha... unintentional puns in every diver watch vid😂
Sea Dweller 43! Perfect size. Also don’t forget to grab the Mark 1 dial. The one without the crown ;)
Where did you get that shirt? I need shirts like this in my life.
Agreed
Good vid Christian! 👍🥃👍
Ha, a Deep "Dive".. get it!!
I have the privilege to own a 116660 deep sea dweller. Such a lovely watch and yet I haven't worn it yet!!
Don't let the specs get to you. After a while, the size and weight of the SeaDweller is probably gonna bother you and wish to get the Sub instead.
I sold my 114060 no date sub to buy a 116600 sd 4000. Can't agree more with your point mate.
Dude, u need 2 get into the gym and lift, that weight is nothing#strong#deepsea
Maybe with the 116600 you'll feel the weight a bit more. But the 16600 is a perfect fit and weight. The hollow bracelet keeps the weight down.
😂 justifying $100k for a steel watch. 4:10 didn’t age well
Sd43 50th anniversary with red writing bigger sexier version of a submariner creme de la creme of sports models
Heliox mixture.
King Rolex You better believe it. If you know you know
Good video but not sure if it's being filmed on a train or by someone with Parkinson's making a cup of tea.
Yes it is 👍🏼
Sweet SS shirt Theo.
Dat boi 2 THICC
I agree that the 1667 is the better Submariner but the modern ones are at least for me unwearable...
At least Tudor has the sense to do a proper sized and proportioned dive watch with the BB58
nice video..
CRAP VIDEO, NO SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON
The date-window ruins it for me, looks like an afterthought. A diver needs to know the time (elapsed), not the date.
I personally don't mind it. They got rid of the cyclops which can be annoying for accurate timing but there's no real reason to get rid of the date window. It doesn't harm the ability to read the watch and the movement already had a date complication. Taking it away would be forced inadequacy.
These twenty something year olds need to be a little more creative with their videos. We are all aware of the sea dwellers history.
Good explanation.
