I love that there's an extra few beats before the "Boo!" at the end because they KNOW that everyone going to see this already has the whole show memorized and it would throw them off guard all over again
That was me with Something Bad. I was kind of sad and thought they skipped it when it didn't happen in the scene it normally happens in the show, so I was totally caught off guard when they did it like two scenes later.
The choreography in this movie is absolutely incredible. Seeing the whole film last night, the best way I can describe it is like everything feels like it's from and could be feasible in a live stage performance but just cranked up from a 10 to a 100. In a show maybe you pick just having this play out in a classroom or a cafeteria or a courtyard but here we get to have all of these settings and more and its just phenomenal.
this is one of the only musical adaptations that's made sense to me, because of how grandiose the visuals could potentially be (due to the setting) but were previously unable to fully-explore to the creatives' full potential due to the technical limitations brought forth by the medium; unlike an adaptation like the mean girls one, wherein it being adapted did little to add to the show beyond just introducing renee rapp to a larger audience. i'm so glad to see that the filmmakers really embraced this, and went all out with the visuals - from the scenery, to the choreography, to the costuming. it's all so gloriously-camp and over-the-top
Bruh if this is gonna be one of the BEST scenes, I don't wanna see it anymore 😂 this song wasn't even good , but I guess because I've never seen or heard the original 🤷🏽♂️ I had no idea the music was like this
Not really, West Side Story (both 1961 and 2021) versions), Hairspray, In The Heights, Tick Tick Boom, Chicago, while they cut and trimmed down some storyline decisions, they still managed to stay true to the spirit of the original
@@brockbuster It could be just the screen. I watched the movie in a regular theater, so seeing it on an OLED tv will obviously show very different color and contrast
It looks so much better here. It's a shame about the cinematography and the filters. They did so much work building this world, only to lose the impact with the white filter over the top.
for real, her expressions are sooo on point and you can easily see the changes in emotion, such perfect use for a movie adaptation where we can actually see the expressions clearly. Her eyes had me crying during the Ozdust ballroom dance scene
and see this is why i understand some of how cynthia was initially turned off by that poster redesign. she was working when that photo was taken and is a very intentional actor. to distort her performance without permission is a vulnerable thing to ask of her
There is no word to describe how amazing and incredible this movie. ARIANA and CYNTHIA r sooo talented. I watched this video like 100 times. Every time I had chills
I saw it this morning. I never thought I could love "the movie" version. Congratulations, Jon Chu🎉 You got me! As for the cast, Cynthia and Arianna are perfection. Comedy timing, perfect. Dramatic acting, perfect. I am only used to hearing this sung by the originals Kristin and Idina. Cynthia and Arianna made each song their own AND completely honored the original score. I loved every note. The supporting cast was super! Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yo (she was awesome), and Johnathan Bailey, Bowen Yang (who knew?) and the rest of the ensemble were incredible. Choreography was SO captivating! Costumes, set design, heck, I bet even craft services was fantastic! Waiting another whole year for part 2 is just too long. You must see it in the theater to get the whole experience. Do not miss this film.
I can't believe they would upload this entire clip, and NOT include the most iconic line right before it! "Unusually and exceedingly peculiar, and altogether quite impossible to describe..." "Blonde."
I love the choreography that was upgraded for this film plus the whole montage of the everyone trying to get through the whole school day. Christopher Scott (choreographer for the film) really took great bits from what the fans of the stage version know from Wayne Cilento's choreography (The Book-ography)..... and took it to the next level!! So excited to see it Sunday!!
So I just watched the movie today .... It was epic ...wish I could watch it 10 more times ...I cried throughout the whole movie ... All the songs and choreography, the set , the characters they all went well together... Nobody could have done it better than them... Shout out to Ariana and Cynthia and director for this bootiful masterpiece. 💚❤️#wicked
2:58 the way you can see Ari act out the disgust and almost annoyance that she is unbothered and also like the ending it’s all on point she and Cynthia are amazing
This legit might be my favorite overall performance of the movie (seen it twice now). The choreography, the location changes, and the way their voices blend is just too much fun.
Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo was definitely born to play Glinda & Elphaba. Their chemistry in this movie is absolutely pure, realistic, comforting, amazing, incredible & understanding. Their voices really compliments each other so extremely well. ✨🫧🩷🧚🏻🪄✨🫧💚🧙🏾🧹
Jon M Chu when he directed In The Heights : Made a faithful and energetic joyful musical movie Jon M. Chu when he directed Wicked : *"Wanna see me do it again??"*
Watched it today at the first show!!!! I will never get the chance the live show and I’ve waited so long to see this…well it went far beyond my expectations. Absolutely stunning theatrical show with extra lush film extravagance.
20 years ago my sister and I as tween and teen scrounged up enough money over the summer to afford to send us and our parents to a show of this. We had to go though a family friend to buy the tickets because we didn't have a CC or debit card. Now 20 years later my mum and I will be going on Sunday to see this. We are so hyped and I am so glad they hired actual performers who can do the stuff for this and didn't just go based off star name recognition.
Whoever did the choreography knew their musical theatre audience. It's pure camp without being off-putting. I LOVE IT!
and cup of water
The transition to Galinda walking with her fellow students in the courtyard had me squealing!
I find it very off putting
Christopher Scott did the choreography. He also worked on the In the Heights movie as well
They literally spend most of the song just…. Standing?
the way i had the highest expectations and still they managed to exceed all of them is unreal

right!!!!!
Ikr, this movie was better than I'd expected. 😭🩷
The very first time a MOVIE ADPATATION being faithful to the source material
girl are you lobotomized?
I love how they're bickering with each other instead of having an internal monologue at the beginning. It's one of the changes I enjoyed in the movie!
Right? I love Glindas little “yeah well,” haha like it’s another part for the competition. So cute.
so true
same!!

"these things are sent to try us~" the way she sang that was the loveliest homage to Kristin Chenoweth,
No, it's a testimony to Stephen Schwartz. Chenoweth is awesome, but she didn't write the song.

The choreo w the books n everything in general
I’m obsessed 😭
And the absurd looking plate they have 😭

And the choreo with the silverware. It's all really good

There voices blend absolutely perfectly
I love how they made the hatred glinda and elphaba feel for each other look so FUN AND BEAUTIFUL
This scene. The movie. The chemistry. Just an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!
I ALWAYS! THOUGHT! that this number needed cafeteria table dancing choreography. Bravissimo!!
Brought this scene to life better than my imagination. Thank you Jon Chu.
I better not see anyone complaining the colors are washed out cuz they finally amped up the saturation here and it looks much more vibrant 🤧

Ariana does the famous hair flick at 28 seconds that Kristin made so iconic onstage. Nice touch.

it's bc pink (aka light red) lighting is complementary to green so they cancel each other out!

I hope they use no good deed's red lighting for this reason,it'd feel like she unintentionally degreenified herself
