Excellent presentation. I purchased my Sea Dweller in January of 1987 when I was in the 82nd Airborne Division. It has been parachuting, scuba diving (of course) and everywhere with me on my travels since. As of October 2024 it is still my go to watch for daily wear. Skin, sky, muff, no dive too much. :)
I felt amazingly fortunate to have an AD sell me the latest Sea Dweller 43 at suggest retail price just a little over a month ago. It is just best watch I’ve ever owned
i have a 16600 and have worn it every day for 22 years - every day it feels like i'm wearing it for the first time.... i still hold it and admire the style and craftsmanship - never had it serviced - don't think i will - a little fast (7 secs a day).. a thing of beauty
I’ve got one too (had it just under 20 year). And I share your thoughts - it’s a fantastic watch. I would recommend that you think about getting it serviced. Like any machine, lubricants dry out and parts will wear. So because it is so over-engineered, it will probably run well for years to come. But you aren’t doing the movement any favours by not having it serviced. Just a thought. Enjoy the watch!
116600 gang here. Subs now feel a little pedestrian in comparison, I like the vintage case proportions with the maxi dial, modern bracelet, and ceramic. But still that matte dial with no cyclops. Perfection 🍻

I have had my 16600 since 1991 and it is still my go to watch. Movement are just as precise as it always have been, it have been serviced regularly. Just love the watch ❤
Couldn't agree more; no Rolex model can compare with the 16600 as the superlative daily wearer for the discerning gentleman of class and distinction. The only possible exception to this would be, of course, the super-rare and hyper-expensive 1665 DRSD (~$50K) ... though given this, it would be ill-advised to have this as your daily go-to watch. Of course the difficulty in both cases (far more so for the latter watch) is the exorbitant price tag. That's why I opted to scratch my Sea-Dweller itch by picking up the outstanding Swiss-Made homage Steinhart 39mm Ocean Vintage Red at 1/100th the price of the 1665 DRSD.
The SD always holds a special place in my heart. I once had a 16600, loved how it looks thicker than the sub. My 2nd SD was the 116600 (sold a guitar and a no date ceramic sub for it) because i was madly in love with the unique lugs, and its majestic bezel look. Kinda lookin forward to having another SD ... .... (devil stay away)
I’m fortunate to own both the 16600 & 116600. These are more appealing than the submariner because of the esthetic and no cyclops. I believe the “oddball” 116600 is the most desirable SD due to its 40mm case, great movement and cerachrom bezel. You glossed over 116600 but it’s already an iconic timepiece
I just bought a mint one, for way more money than I could have bought a SD43 50th anniversary 😅, but I couldn't care less since it's among the best modern Rolex ever made and IMO it will be very expensive someday... 😊
@@vincentschneuwly9783 couldn’t agree more! Mine is mint too as I wear the 16600 and Explorer 39mm full lume. Another Rolex that had a short run and I believe the ideal size. The 36 is too small and the 40…might as well get an Oyster Perpetual. I really think Tudor is making some great timepieces as well Enjoy my friend
@@vincentschneuwly9783 Always buy what you like, and don't let anybody tell you what you should've bought instead. I doubt the 116600 (or any Sea-Dweller other than a Comex for that matter) will be a good investment piece. The market for them is quite small.
Hi, I enjoyed your video and I'm hoping you might have some advise on what to expect when selling a 1665 "great white" which has a fair amount of wear, but might still be worth quite a bit. A big dealer can ask for top dollar, but what is the lowest offer I should except?
What a beautiful watch, I personally like it even more than the sub. For now I enjoy my Certina Action Diver in 43mm. You also presented it on this channel back then and I had to have it. ;)
Former NASA-astronaut, turned aquanaut US Navy Captain Scott Carpenter used Rolex Sea Dweller in the underwater SeaLab habitat. Carpenter liked his watches as already in 1962 had Breitling bringing out a Navitimer with bigger bezel and 24 hours dial. After leaving NASA Carpenter mostly wore Rolex Submariner & SeaDweller versions, with the odd exception his 1969 Gold "Apollo 11 tribute" BA 145.022-69 Speedmaster chronograph.
I am fortunate to have been able to buy up from a no date Sub to a Rolex Sea Dweller 116600 ceramic in 40mm before prices went crazy and I have to say it is damn near a perfect tool dive watch. I think the newer SD in 43 with cyclops gets away from the tool aspect of the watch and moves it more toward a fashion statement.
I agree with you 100% the 116600 is the perfect tool watch if I could only keep one watch that would be that one. I’ve recently bought a 116660 deep sea and I really like it as well. Surprisingly you can find those fairly reasonably all things considered. I am definitely not a fan of the 43mil sea dweller though to me it looks off and too much like a submariner.
Agree, once they start making precious metal versions of any model, I think it kills the tool watch appeal for me. Explorer 2 I the last remaining one now
I bought the 16600 several years ago. I was not really familiar with it but had been looking at Submariners for years. Whe I decided to buy, Subs were trending and jumping in price, and I despised the attitude that was growing in online communities. When I finally looked twice at a Sea Dweller, I loved it, and just happened to do a quick search and found one w/B&P for a steal and jumped on it. I love the presence on the wrist, more substantial than a Submariner. And who wouldn't want a 4,000 ft. rating?
The Submariner is unjustly maligned in the watch community. There have been many iterations of the Sub, and if you've put some research into the different models before buying one, it's not a watch "everyone has". You will have picked the exact model that you want. My favorite Submariner is the two-line 14060M with a fat four bezel. Unfortunately they're very difficult to find. Most have a sharp four or a serifed four. I'll be picking up a 116600 Sea-Dweller in 3 days. If I ever come across my favorite Sub, I'll get that one too.
A Sub is a Sub-optimal watch when compared to the SD which would be the Smartest Decision to make. I love my SD43. It has so much more wrist presence than a Sub, plus it sets you apart from the large crowd of Sub followers. Don’t follow, lead with the SD.
I have a sub and a sea dweller 116600 and I haven’t worn the sub since I bought the sea dweller. I also have a deep sea earlier version love it too except the bracelet.
My favorite Sea Dwellers of all time are the 1665 and 116600. The 1665 is obviously the OG and the 116600 to me is the true modern successor of the 1665. Followed closely is the 16600 with its neo-vintage charm.
Great video. Is it still safe to dive with a sea dweller from your favourite era in the 1990’s? I love the classic look, but would want to use it as intended. Pressure testing once a year would be sufficient?
Thanx for this Video. I totally agree with your opinon. Not every Model of Rolex can be stunning favorites. There is so much crap in dials and diamonds... 16600 is a milestone. It combines all tools for charismatic men .
I really enjoyed your SD review. Loved it, actually! I have a Datejust 41 with blue face and diamond markers, but with a wrist size 9.25" (23.5cm), I feel it's a little small for my wrist. I recently purchased the 2017 SD43 MK1 and I LOVE IT! I had to get a couple of extra links of course, but it looks perfect on my wrist! You are correct. It's a better watch than the sub. Better specs, better depth capability, and IMO, better size dimensions for the modern male wrist.
By the way, I bought from ad freely a sea dweller deep sea. I couldn't believe my eyes when I got it. I strongly recommend the Jeweler for everybody Schaap Citroen . You are treated in the most decent way possible in the shop. All my respect for them
Yes….perfect unique sport watch true to it’s dive heritage comfortable to wear and has transitioned into all the evolving latest upgrades. The 126600 …..50 Anniversary depending on someone’s wrist size is something beefier that a Submariner the Red text harbinger’s back to both Sea Dweller’s and Sub lovers. Might even be a Sub killer, In my opinion there’s no comparison the SD’s rule. Certainly a more rare produced watch and the Sea Dweller’s where always a slight premium in retail price.
Yes, more then once. Also he pronounces 16660 as sixteen six six six zero, also he confuses feet with meters, stating 4000 meters is over e kilometre deep 😄

The James Cameron deep sea in my opinion will go up in value once discontinued and a lot more up in a few decades as it is tied to a historical event and a significant person.
Just left my 16600 in for a service. I wanted it serviced, plus and a new face and hand to restore the luminosity on the hands and watch face. £1200, in order for Rolex to do the service it I have to replace the sapphire Crystal (the Crystal had a tiny chip only visible with a jewellers loop), as well as the bracelet, and the Bezel (because it had a mynute crack on the luminous dot) the bracelet was stretched slightly that’s another £1100 pounds. Grand total £2500 ish. It’s like leave your car in for a service to the main dealer then having to get the car completely restored to show room condition before they will agree to service the car.
Ma786sai Dua the reason I buy a Rolex is only because of what it speaks to my own soul. I have 11 Rolex’. For me the Ref 116660 DeepSea Dweller remains the finest.
i wanted the 14060 Sub and was eyeing a used one from a shop. sadly somebody got ahead of me and then there is a 16600 on display. this is from the early 2000s and it does not have a tritium lume , which is fine with me. interestingly the 16600 is selling for less than the 14060 in the used market . ended up getting the 16600. the fact that it does not have a cyclops is appealing to me as i am not too fond of date complications and worst, i dont care for the cyclops. i am also not too fond of the newer maxi dial rolexes. the16600 is a happy combination of vintage and modern and i love this SD that i no longer aspire for the 14060. the 16600 is a keeper and i have worn it several times a week on rotation with my other watches.
I feel SDs are underrated, yes it's slightly thicker and heavier than a Sub but you get an over engineered watch for the same money or even less. The 14060 is a great watch and has a nice symmetrical look but I find the 16600 to wear better and has better presence imo.
That is if you're comparing the current gen Sub vs SD though, the previous generations they were the same 40mm, just that the SD is slightly thicker and heavier.
Sub is nicer and slimmer. I’m 6’6 and the sub fits my wrist better than a sea dweller and I’m sure it would be the same for your case. No one takes these diving. I was at my AD the other day and they had a sea dweller and a deep sea for sale, you know what they didn’t have for sale?
With the dweller you have a story to tell. Everybody is fixed on the sub but how nice is it to tell more specs and the peculiairity of the dweller who almost look the same but not.... This is a really toolwatch instead of the sub as a commercial watch. The 16600 is the best in the pricerange in this time (around euro 10-12k). The new price of the 16600 in his time was higher then the sub 16610.
In 1999 when I bought my 16600, it was the most expensive stainless steel sports model Rolex offered...MORE expensive than the Daytona even, at $6,400.
@@waynechan-e9snah disagree the 116600 still maintains 2 key characteristics that makes it a true SD just like the older gens, first is the 40mm size, 2nd is the date without the cyclops. Whereas in the case of the 126600 the size and proportions are bloated up to 43mm and now having a cyclops which make it just like any other Rolex sports model with a date.
I enjoyed the video and I own a 16600. While I love the 16600, I want to replace it with a 116600 Sea dweller for 3 reasons that I believe makes it a better watch. First, the bracelet is a major improvement, secondly, from an aesthetics point of view, I like the look of the dial with the larger more luminated hour markers and thirdly, the movement has been improved. The only reason I don't pull the trigger is that I feel the 116600 is overpriced. The 16600 provides more value as you stated.
116600 is the king for me. 116600 > 16600. Not just for the fully graduated ceramic bezel, but because of the bracelet. The solid end and center links, glide lock, machined clasp, and diver extension make a world of difference for a tool watch. The only reason I'd go for the 16600 is if it were a Comex version. 116600 > 126600 for the lack of a cyclops lens, 40mm instead of 43mm, and 3135 movement instead of the 3235 movement. That last one will probably need a bit of explanation, but it has to do with how you set the watch. When I roll the crown up, I want the hands to move forward, not back. The only thing the 126600 has on the 116600 is the red line of text, but I can easily live without it. Imho, the 14060M Submariner is a better balanced watch though, and far more suitable for everyday wear. Plus the 14060M has that vintage chic, especially with the two-line dial, while still being technically a modern watch.
its not 1655 but 1665, but that's ok, I think 1665 is not good enough, I think 16600 is the best and I love also 116600 with ceramic bezel. I hate 126600 and 603, so wrong.
Why are you lying about the spec of the watch? @3:25 you said it can go down to 4km. That's a complete lie. The watch is only capable of going down 1220m. What kind of nonsense is that? I can't believe the whole channel is in on this lie. For what? Ridiculous.

The Sea-Dweller 4000 (ref 116600) did not have a new movement. It used the same 3135 that were in all pretty-much all Rolex sport watches with a date function, until after this watch was discontinued in 2017 and replaced with the needlessly bulkier 43mm Sea-Dweller which sported the. 3245 calibre.
The 16600 and 116600 are the pinnacle of SD design -- one being the aluminum bezel version and the other the ceramic version. All these larger cases with a date cyclops that have come afterward are slightly inferior imo.

Grand total £2500 ish. It’s like leave your car in for a service to the main dealer then having to get the car completely restored to show room condition before they will agree to service the car.
sd 16600 is the one the best sub to wear everyday
I just love my 95 16600
Ma786sai Dua the reason I buy a Rolex is only because of what it speaks to my own soul.
Why Rolex never celebrated the anniversary of some models like the Airking ?!
Smart people own a Sea-Dweller. 😊 I’m smart. 116600. 3 year run. 40mm. Glidelock. 4000ft. Ceramic bezel. ❤❤❤
100% want to agree it’s a better choice than the sub, but it’s too big, that’s why sub wins
Means nothing. Passive consumers will always buy inferior products.
Project much? 😂
SD43 !
126600
With the dweller you have a story to tell. Everybody is fixed on the sub but how nice is it to tell more specs and the peculiairity of the dweller who almost look the same but not.... This is a really toolwatch instead of the sub as a commercial watch. The 16600 is the best in the pricerange in this time (around euro 10-12k). The new price of the 16600 in his time was higher then the sub 16610.
In 1999 when I bought my 16600, it was the most expensive stainless steel sports model Rolex offered...MORE expensive than the Daytona even, at $6,400.

I’ve got a mint, rarely ever worn 2003 Seadweller. 16600. All paperwork inc original purchase receipt, all correct case, toolkit, anchor, etc.
I’m looking to sell! Anyone interested?
Still available?
I do want the watch. Unfortunately i don't even swim, so not an option

Mine is SD red
The SD4K was the last true sea dweller (116600)
The Last True Sea Dweller is the 16600 Non Ceramic.
@@waynechan-e9snah disagree the 116600 still maintains 2 key characteristics that makes it a true SD just like the older gens, first is the 40mm size, 2nd is the date without the cyclops. Whereas in the case of the 126600 the size and proportions are bloated up to 43mm and now having a cyclops which make it just like any other Rolex sports model with a date.
watching this while wearing my u-serial 1998 16600 SD-T =)
I enjoyed the video and I own a 16600. While I love the 16600, I want to replace it with a 116600 Sea dweller for 3 reasons that I believe makes it a better watch. First, the bracelet is a major improvement, secondly, from an aesthetics point of view, I like the look of the dial with the larger more luminated hour markers and thirdly, the movement has been improved. The only reason I don't pull the trigger is that I feel the 116600 is overpriced. The 16600 provides more value as you stated.
It is possible to change your “old” clasp with the newer glidelock clasp. Best of both worlds!
What is market price for an unworn NOS 116600 now? Thanks!
The 116600 I found to be a tad too top heavy. Went back to the 16600. Horses for courses
Who are you calling Tad :)@@Leftystrat
I recently purchased a very nice 2014 116600 for $14k.@@Laguna2013
I agree my favorite Sea Dwellers of all time are the 1665 and 116600. Followed closely by the 16600.
43 is the perfect size. Try it out
its not 1655 but 1665, but that's ok, I think 1665 is not good enough, I think 16600 is the best and I love also 116600 with ceramic bezel. I hate 126600 and 603, so wrong.
116600
its an outstanding timepiece the Rolex Sea Dweller 16600!
16600 the final classic diver. The later models get the deepsea. If you can handle the sd43 skip it and jump on the deepsea
1665.
I have an unworn 2009 model. I prefer that to the current Sea Dwellers.
Why are you lying about the spec of the watch?
@3:25 you said it can go down to 4km. That's a complete lie. The watch is only capable of going down 1220m. What kind of nonsense is that? I can't believe the whole channel is in on this lie. For what? Ridiculous.
4,000 feet. He made a mistake... I think everyone else got it, except you ;-)
@@FratelloMagazine oh it was a mistake that everyone else including the production staff got it? So you knowingly allowed the "mistake" to be presented without any corrections?
That speaks volumes about your lack of integrity and dedication to the accuracy of information and the work you present, just like the way you responded to the criticism.
@@211teitake It's difficult to correct after the video has been shot. But yeah, it should be clear he meant 4,000 feet and not meters. Sorry if it wasn't clear to you, and your interpretation of it as being a lie to the public. We don't mind criticism or feedback on errors made, but calling it a lie, lack of integrity, and whatnot, results in us believing you're just a keyboard warrior looking for mistakes others made. Nice job!
@@FratelloMagazine@FratelloMagazine Maybe it's difficult, but I have seen multiple approaches to error corrections on other RUclips videos, and it's not uncommon to see error corrections. You may disagree, but I do think it is telling of your organization's views on the accuracy and integrity of the information you provide when you ignore and don't even attempt to correct a known mistake/misinformation.
Value 💰💰💰SD…. Pelagos 42 is the new SD
I stopped watching when you said 4,000 m was over a kilometer. Yea, way over.
4000ft = 1220m, so he’s right, over a km is a sensible description
@@albertonavarro-rubio9602 yes, but he said meters not feet.
Maybe he has huge feet
@@albertonavarro-rubio9602 haha! Good one!
the way this guy speaks can drive u nuts, speed it up! impossible to listen to
No Maradona it’s for wannabe’s 😂
The best sea dweller was the 4K … the SD50 is just heavy, big and lost its roots
The 16600 and 116600 are the pinnacle of SD design -- one being the aluminum bezel version and the other the ceramic version. All these larger cases with a date cyclops that have come afterward are slightly inferior imo.
Oh god he is boring
