I find the Edox Neptunian to be an affordable joy to wear and nothing that will upset you when you bang the case against a wall. I have the green dial green ceramic bezel only waterproof to 3300 ft. Nice helium escape valve and excellent finishing. The version I have has the numbers on the bezel.

I have the original 116660 and love it even with the slimmer band - its my favourite watch by far - gets 90% of the wrist time. I feel the slimmer band looks more elegant and the taper is beautiful plus the glidelock clasp system is amazing. Good luck with the watch, I am sure you will get many years of love out of it!

Don't forget that Rolex certifies their chronometers to 1.25X the rated depth, so this is actually rated to exactly 16,000 feet. I have the 126660 and it's my daily driver - love it.

  • @howardsprague5146

I’ve purchased two new Rolexes from ADs in my life, both of which I still own. The first is a “two tone” gold and steal Submariner that I bought long enough ago that it’s now considered “vintage”. The other is the one DeepSea model earlier than yours; 122666 JC Deep blue DeepSea.. FYI on just a of couple things you didn’t mention in your very well done video.. One: there’s a point to the green writing on the dial.. It’s an homage to the same color of green color as the submersible James Cameron used on his Mariana dive. Two: another difference between the 11666, the 126666, and 13666, is the elimination the the diver extension on the bracelet on the 13. Three: the reason there’s a bit of distortion on the sapphire crystal at certain angles is because of its ridiculous thickness, 5mm, a necessity for any watch designed to withstand the insane depths the DeepSea is. I really like this watch for many reasons, and I wear it more than any of others I own. Hell, after a couple years now it almost makes my 29 year old Submariner feel too small,,, almost.. On a personal note, and at the risk of displaying my “toxic masculinity”, another reason I like the DeepSea is it is without a doubt a man’s watch!.. A Rolex AD told me not long ago that with the ongoing style of women preferring larger watches, Rolex has more and more been marketing most Rolexes as unisex watches, particularly Oyster Perpetuals, Submariners, Daytonas, and other sports references.. Great choice on your first Rolex!. You couldn’t have done better IMO, and I agree with everything you said regarding the “it’s too big” conventional thinking not being a problem for most.. Anyone with a a 6 3/4 wrist or larger will be just fine with this watch…..

Great video, great watch. I have had a Sub for almost 30 yes (now passed on to my son), and I have always lusted after a Deepsea, in particular your reference. Thus I have enjoyed your "conversation" (much better than "review") about it. A couple of things you said resonated particularly well with me. First, you do not buy a watch for the specs (spot on), second, there is no other brand (other than Patek, maybe?) who executes steel bracelets as well as Rolex, regardless we are talking about Oyster or Jubilee.

Excellent review. I have the 12x version. I absolutely love it. It is very comfortable. Pictures and videos don't do justice to the beauty of the dial. Now, the Seadweller and the Deepsea are in different lineups. As a result, the dial has less text 😂.

I was at a wedding last summer and a guy there was rocking the deepsea. For some silly reason I couldn’t believe it. Anyway, he pulled the look off. Crisp white shirt, sleeves rolled up and he was tall/skinny. I’d never seen the deepsea worn out like that, all dressed up. I was wearing my sub date, and it looked tiny 😅. Anyway, I was impressed and also surprised he had IWC and other watches but it was the deepsea for the wedding. Pretty cool and made me think for a second 😂 but I love my sub. Great video.

Still own a Submariner (16613, "Sultan", blue face, 18kt two-tone) that I purchased new in '98. However, as a daily driver I have shifted to a DeepBlue Master 2000 (with ETA 2824-2 movement) or a SteelDive 1953 "Cermit"/"Starbucks" or a SteelDive 1964 "Big Hulk". I still wear the Submariner "Sultan" from time to time, mostly on special occasions and in safe places. Around town or on foreign travel...it's the DeepBlue or a SteelDive, usually. For dress occasions I have a Glashutte Original Senator...another terrific timepiece with date/moonphase/power reserve.
I bought that Sub after having left the US Navy (1120 / SSN 722) and while working as a manager at a large corporation. Single with no kids....it was a rather impulsive purchase. That damn watch was plastered all over a billboard (in Richmond, VA) that I had to pass every morning on my way to work. Bought the watch on a hot Saturday afternoon, after having just washed my car. Decided to take a break and buy an ice cream cone at an airconditioned mall just south of Richmond. While still in a sweaty t-shirt marked by brake dust, shorts, and flip flops...I strolled into the jewelry boutique (from the billboard), took one look at that watch...and bought it. Pretty sure the lady behind the counter was worried that I might rob the place, given my attire. I did manage to haggle...just a bit...and I got them down in price by about 6%. I think I paid about $5200, at the time. Those days are over.

A coworker has one of the earlier Sea Dwellers. From a couple feet away, it doesn't look ridiculously big but holding it... I dunno... that thickness is... it's a really thick watch. If I bought a Rolex, 80% chance it would be an Explorer I and 20% it would be a Datejust. Among the Subs, I like the 10-ish year old ones with the thinner lugs.

Quite the timepiece!! When you get into that price range, it's not really a consumable good. You compared it to buying a house, but a big plus is no property tax. It's a place to park wealth that's enjoyable and probably a good inflation shield. Just curious. Have you worn it swimming in the ocean?
