You really think so? I’m trying hard to love because the dial is soo fricking stunning . I think it’s the most beautiful dial Rolex Ever made … just the tick and weight …
Been wearing it every single day since July 2019 and I love it. I'm 5'8" 170lb and it wears comfortably. Never had anyone comment that it looks too big. Amazing durability, accuracy, and bracelet adjustability.
Adam Sweeney me too; 5’8” 175 lbs and find the 116660 original reference perfect 👌🏻 Chose the 1st generation over the 126660 despite the improvements (same price). Great dial ⚙️⛓🛠
That dial is just stunning… it’s the best dial Rolex ever made … I know it’s heavy and tall but man, for that dial and engineering capability… it’s a must even as daily
Pro tip: as with all Sea Dwellers there’s a little hack you can do: remove the flip lock and attach the links directly to the glide lock and it sits even flatter!
@@sab249 in effect yes. It doesn’t have the flip lock anymore. Which some complain about but if you’re taking it off anyway and never ever using it 🤷🏻♂️
Been wearing one of these for a few years. I actually don't think it's too big at all, and instead think it's just that most other Rolex's are simply too small. You see watches from RM, AP, Jacob & Co, Omega etc, and some are just as big if not bigger. Hell my AP Offshore Diver is actually bigger and heavier (on a bracelet) than my Deepsea (and it's far from the biggest AP) and to me that's a good thing for a sportier watch. It's a manly watch that draws the eye and doesn't look too dainty and feeble, instead it is substantial and feels like you get your moneys worth. It also stands out so much more than my other Rolex's, and I like that. Let's you admire the finishing, details, shapes and materials that much more.
I purchased this watch nearly a month ago. At first I was concerned about the size however, it fits perfectly. It certainly gets noticed, and has perhaps one of the most beautiful tiles of any Rolex .
Great filming of this watch guys; this is the one watch in my collection that I think I couldnt live without, I love it & have both models. The size is big but suits my wrist size (7.5"+), not good for under the cuff obviously & I love the fact it doesnt have a cyclops. This & the Sea Dweller 126600 are by far my favourite Rolex models in my collection. Brilliant VLOG, you covered this watch really well.
I’m lucky enough to own many Rolex and generally prefer medium sized watches and surprisingly, the James Cameron DeepSea D-Blue is one of the most comfortable watches in my collection.
Just picked up the 116660 original offering, had it side-by-side with the newer 126660 reference and found it better for some reason. Could have paid the same money for the updated version but found the wider bracelet awkwardly sized. Love it as the dial is incredible 🐇
Morning fellas, I agree that dial is all sorts of gorgeous, but the size of it, especially the height? Gandalf couldn't slip that under his sleeve. And I cannot wait for the Zodiac vid, my finger is hovering over the 'add to basket' button like teenage me waiting to hit pause while watching the VHS of Basic Instinct.
Ma786sai Dua can get a Mark 3 Ref 136660 2023 DeepSea. But would you definitely agree that the Gen 2 Ref 126660 is the One to pull the trigger on? The fact that 2023 piece doesn’t have the diver extension is what turns me away from the 136660.
I am 5,10 average guy .wearing it over a year. It's very comfortable and doesn't seem big at all.. this watch stands apart from submariner which everybody has one on real and fake ..
Another good one! You’re right about the SD43 - I tried one on the other day and it doesn’t wear that much bigger than my sub. Could get away with it even with my scrawny (16cm) wrist. And you get a line of red text...
I'm 6 foot tall and 180 pounds,, with fairly thin wrists,, but I love this watch and it fits nicely on my wrist.. The case is huge and tall and you always know that you're wearing it, but it can be worn by people that aren't built like brick shit houses... I get compliments and great conversation regarding the watch all of the time...
I watched this one in 4K and macro video is amazing. The dial on this watch is incredibly beautiful. But 18mm thick and 217g it is a behemoth...I have large wrists and I couldn't wear this. Thank you for another great video.
Thanks Jeffrey! As much as they have worked wonders getting a watch this size and weight to actually and surprisingly fit quite well you’re right it’s just a step too far for most people
Thanks for covering the bracelet adjustment, I’ve been looking for info on it. I really want one to wear daily including diving and was wondering how they address wearing over a dry suit/wetsuit
I have owned the Mk1 D-Blue since 2016. I like it and admire the engineering, but at times it does get heavy and cumbersome. I can’t wear it every day, but it’s part of my rotation and gets maybe 20% wrist time. I’m a largish man and as I lose weight and my wrists get thinner, it might become a bit awkward to wear. Another thing is that I can’t wear it when I travel, especially in Europe or the Americas, due to concerns about watch thefts and muggings. Overall, it’s a great representative of the dive watch phenomenon in my collection, but not a daily wear timepiece.
Owned one for a year blue dial and I find it much more wearable than the 116660 I owned before it. It’s a big Watch however so it can look overpowering on some wrists. Nice channel. First time I’ve been here.
The 2018 and newer will easily fit small wrists and looks very proportionate. I think we should call this watch the TITANIC! Titanium back case and a tribute to the man who made the movie Titanic....Who's with me?
check your facts boys. The original JC DBlue 116660 was released in 2014 not 2012. he wore a submariner whilst in the capsule diving to the bottom of the ocean not the special edition deep sea challange watch you showed in the pic. that watch was strapped to the outside of the capsule whilst the dive took place
Another great video lads. Huge looking watch too! Ant was you wearing Lukes speedy in the video too? It'll be good to do a quick 10-20 second intro on each video mentioning what watch you are wearing on the day. Granted often it may be the same as previous. But it could be a nice feature.
Cheers mate! Yeah Ant had it on. We started doing that in earlier videos, but 1) it was extra shooting and we’re lazy and 2) I cringe at wrist watch checks now, lol.
When I got my Submariner it was considered a big watch. Watch sizes grew and now it's considered moderate. But this just a bridge too far. Having tried one on it does not have wrist presence so much as it sullenly squats there making a scene. The dial is lovely, but the watch is just too big and too heavy.
Depends on your wrist tbh. I’ve seen arnie and Stallone wearing 55mm Uboats. This is small next to them. I think the problem for most people is the thickness as for the insane water resistance it has to be thicker to withstand the pressure. After all it’s only 1mm wider than the latest red letter sea dweller.
Had the sd43 and now the deepsea and this baby is way more comfortable than the sd43. Bigger surface area for watch to sit on. Not as concave. Yes the cyclops annoyed me in the end
So i ain't the only one who thought it was too big. It's one sexy watch but wearing it all day would be weird at least for someone like me. I ended up purchasing yacht master 40 which i really like wearing all day but i gotta accept deep sea is such a beautiful watch.
It is a gorgeous watch but it takes a certain person both physically and mentally to rock it. I’m not that person. And I thought the oversized watch craze was in the way out? Is it coming back already?
I have the Pro Hunter version of this , and personally I like the sub , gmt , Milgause but I feel they are all too small for me , at 40mm not exactly making a statement. I also love The 47mm Panerai’s , large Breitling’s Hublot Big Bang 48mm etc. I also love A Lange and Sohne , even they are obviously on the smaller size .
Shame you did not show it more on the wrist, only few secs starting from 5:18. Honestly it did not look that much different than your sub from this viewpoint at 5:18. What is your wrist size? Altough I do admit , I once tried that on in airport, its way too thick from own POV. Other than that, love that watch. Black any day over that toddler blue.

Thanks for the vid! The wearer's size matters on this one. At 6'6", 240 lbs it's just right for me. Most have never seen one in person. The blue dial is far more appealing in person than pics or vids. It ranges from blue to purple to black in different lighting.
