    The problem with vintage Rolex’s is that the prices are quite high, but the quality isn’t a patch on the modern models. Particularly the bracelets.

      This is so true, I felt highly disappointed when I bought a vintage Rolex, it just doesn’t have the quality that modern Rolexes do.

    I'd say one critical mistake people make with Rolexes (or high-end watches in general) is not insuring them. Watches are meant to be worn, not tucked away in a safe. Insure that thing so you can daily it without worry 💸

    • @7.92Gav
      @7.92Gav Месяц назад +2

      Only insure a watch if you can't afford to lose it. There are benefits to not insuring.

    • @marcusherts9345

      @@7.92Gavwhat benefits are those?

    • @marcusherts9345
      @marcusherts9345 Месяц назад +2

      How do you insure one?
      Is it just put on your house insurance?
      Or is there a special insurance for luxury watches out there?

    • @7.92Gav
      @7.92Gav Месяц назад +3

      @marcusherts9345 talk goes on within insurance companies. You don't know who knows your address and what valuable items you hold. Also, the tax man can look at your list of insured valuables after you die and add them to the value of your estate for IHT purposes. If he doesn't know......
      Sure, losing a watch would be rather annoying, but I wonder how many years' insurance premiums it would take to repurchase the watch. That’s the risk calc.

    • @DollarDude
      @DollarDude Месяц назад +5

      @@7.92Gav I disagree. The only benefit to not insuring a high-end watch is having enough money to not care if you lose, break, or get robbed of a high-end watch. If that's you, congrats. The annual premium on a $17k Rolex with a $0 deductible is around $240 a year, which is a small price to pay to not worry about rocking your Rolex in a crowded city or tourist area.

    I think my earlier comment got nuked by my hotel wifi, so I'll try to rewrite it... anyway if I were you, I'd be taking the banhammer out on some of these commenters right now. I'm not a Rolex person but man, people get too emotionally invested in this stuff. And almost all of these tips could apply to any watch brand. I do think if I were buying used, I'd only buy *really* used and not CPO, because prices for CPO Rolexes are high enough that you may as well just buy new. But you could go on Ebay and get a regular used Rolex with their authenticity guarantee (and the guarantee that comes with your credit card, assuming you pay that way) for a few thousand bucks or even less. Anyway, always enjoy your videos even when they're not about one of my favorite brands!

    I'll never own a Rolex watch... I couldn't even afford the insurance and the costs for servicing a Rolex.
    Luckily for me, out of the Rolex lineup only the Air-King comes close to something I would pick, and it just doesn't make sense with all the in my opinion better designed pilot and field watches out there.
    I would be much more inclined to pick a Hamilton 42mm Murph, but ever since the inflation hit and increased the cost of living (but not my salary) that's out of my price range as well these days.
    It's a good thing there are some lovely cheap quartz watches out there like the Orloff Dunes and the Accurist Aviation - not to mention the Sea2See Panarea01.

I might have paid more than the already expensive SRP, even when it could have been available. Now, I appreciate the little wait, but at least the AD knows me, got 2 selected Rollies in 8 months :) besides, I'm in no rush for them. They call, sure, thanks, but no pressure to buy grey.

I have no idea, but a quick search online, at least half of them are genuine. The only ones wearing 28mm Rolexes were older ladies on the MRT. So the question of too big or too small, it all depends on you.

    I think that a leather strap on a diver is o.k. You know , whatever one prefers . If there's to be a standard of no leather straps on divers then there should be a standard of no leather straps on any wrist watches with 30 meters or more . I've heard this taboo mentioned before and personally think it's only of the obvious , simply being that if leather gets wet then it has effects and needs drying etc.. Point in case ; equestrian tackle , motorcycle riding gear ...... people who choose to wear a leather strap on a diver know what they're doing and what they prefer . If one were a scuba diver in action it wouldn't be the best choice to employ a leather strap of course . Anyhow , Cheers as they say .

    Rolex watches are similiar to high end sports car owners: few will track their Ferraris and Porsches as few will dive with their Rolex divers. The Deepsea and the Challenge are ridiculous as you can’t even directly wear them at those depths outside of a submarine. Yes, I use my James Cameron to visit the Titanic every Tuesday.
    For watch people, it’s about appreciating the history, looks, and engineering that goes behind them. For everyone else, it’s just a name to show off. Sad thing is Rolex needs these people that just want to show off the name just as how Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini had to lower themselves to making SUVs.

    I really like the Rolex movements, but I don't like the new rlx designs and the attitude of some rlx owners. My daily is a Tudor in the rlx price range i would prefer other brands.

    Who pays for something minor like food when they don’t even have an Explorer 1… you eat everyday. But a Rolex is forever.

    Rolex servicing runs 30% higher for watches over ten years old as a “classic” service. But there is a school of thought if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Typically your older watch may drift a little more inaccurate than out of the gate but if you’re wearing them in a rotation they are getting way much less wear and tear than say a one watch worn daily.
