I bought my Sea-Dweller 4000 116600 new in Abu Dhabi back in 2015, where I was flying helicopters out to the offshore oil platforms. In addition to owning a couple IWC Spitfires and a couple TAG's, my SD4K has been my go to watch for over the past 8 years. That is up until just recently mid-2023 when I learned that the SD4K was discontinued in 2017 after just 3 years production. My much loved Sea-Dweller now lives in the Safe here in Phuket Thailand where I am now retired from the cockpit.
Year later and the price of these, along with every other SS Sport Rolex, has increased nicely. I paid $10k for a lightly worn Fullset in 2018. The last 40mm transitional SD did not sell well and you used to be able to find a mint/Fullset commonly available for between 10-11k just a few years ago. Now a nice example will cost you 14-16k easy. Very low production, transitional, last of the classical 40mm tapered cases, this is a future “money in the bank” collectors piece for sure. By all means enjoy it, just be careful wearing it
The SD4000 is the final bridge between the classic SD and the new larger maxi case version. Maxi dial with new version lume, engraved bezel insert, original case size and style, and the upgraded clasp. Congratulations!

Prior to arrival in HK I watched your videos and decided to do my own personal HK watch Safari. That was a lot of fun and a very exciting experience, although my wife didn't share my enthusiasm! 😀 Cheers

Older video I know but I just recently acquired one of these at what I consider a reasonable price and I have to say I love it this one will not leave my collection. I don’t even wear my submariner very much any more. I like the 116600 better because I prefer a thicker watch I’m into chunky chronographs as well. Eventually I’ll probably get a deep sea just because I prefer thick watches but for me the sd4k will always be the perfect dive watch. Great video by the way.

I'll take your advice, wear my seiko for years and years, and then get my grail. Keep it up!
Very nice video. I picked up an almost identical SD4K in Nagano for a very fair price at Jack Road. I really think this classic model will become highly sought after in the future.

I agree with you both! The shiny ceramic bezel makes this beautiful watch look to blingy. As far as the bracelet and clasp, I would not say the new one is better... I've been wearing my SD 16600 for 15 years and I've never had a need to adjust it three times a day... the beauty of buying vintage is that you are also buying the time period that it was made. I'd never put electric windows in my 1969 Porsche, even though electric windows are technically better. Just my 2 cents.
I know this is a year late but congrats 🎉. This is a grail of mine. Quick question? How does it wear compared to a Submariner as far as thickness? This case is much better than the Submariner Super case. The SD is the best if both worlds. Modern bracelet, ceramic bezel, maxi dial. I wish I could could of bought it when it was new. They were always at AD display cases because they were $1500 more than the Sub date. That’s why they didn’t sell much. Enjoy and stay safe & healthy
Congratulations and enjoy! :) personally I would avail myself if the service while I could (so long as you trust the AD). At the end of the day, you don’t really know the history of the watch so it might be worthwhile having them check it out ... I recently acquired a 2008 Master 2 black and discovered by accident that the perpetual rotor was not actuall winding the watch so maybe I am just a bit paranoid at the moment lol
