  • Rolex SeaDweller 40mm ceramic ref#116600. Made 2014-3rd quarter 2016. This SD Sub has a unique case profile and possibly foreshadows the upcoming 2020 Submariner to be revealed at Basil World this April. The rumors circulating about the new redesigned Submariner include one about a revised Mid-case to slim down the lugs from the current maxi case. Only an unconfirmed rumor at this point but it’s fun to speculate.

I agree. I also have this watch, and appreciate it’s dimensions, and it’s modern bracelet. I have had a maxi-case Rolex, the GMT Batman, and part of the reason I moved on from that watch was the blocky appearance.

A sleeper for sure. Besides a very low production run it is a transitional model so Cerachrome bezel, Chromalight lume, very current movement with parachrome, 40mm tapered case, solid Glidelock bracelet and no cyclops. Not everyone can pull off a 43mm SD or 44mm DeepSea. This SD Sub will be a future must have once people figure out just how rare and special it truly is

Extremely rare. Price is going one way with this piece it seems. There are only 7 for sale within UK at present. Damn.

Up. It’s been frustratingly slow to be recognized by the Rolex community but once it does it should Moon shot. Less than 3 years in Rolex’s catalog so low production numbers, Transitional model with all the modern features but still the older 40mm tapered lug case and no cyclops. I think the general Rolex community will eventually figure it out and quest this watch. Right now it’s in the providence of the investor/collectors types who are quietly buying and stashing them away. Good luck with your search and acquisition

The best Rolex sport model ever made and the last true Sea dweller. It’s perfection, unique case, unique and elegant lugs , non-cyclops, matte dial … perfection

Agree 100%. Very underrated and overlooked by many Rolex collectors. It has everything going for it. Low production, Transitional model, modest price, classic 40mm proportions and tapered lugs but with all the modern updates. It will be a sought after watch in the future, after everyone figures all this out. For now with the downturn in High end Swiss watches it can be picked up for cheaper then a newer Submariner. I recently picked up another mint Fullset for $12k.
Will be doing a review on a 1966 Gilt dial 5513 Sub Fullset. Extremely rare to find a original one owner vintage 5513 gilt dial with everything still kept together. A time capsule watch for sure

@@SPQR-Z you lucky because I can’t find them anymore below 15K (Swiss franc’s CHF) for a fair condition

I have this watch and I absolutely love it, I just wish I bought it when it first came out, I would’ve saved and made some good money.

True but you could say that about most Rolex SS Sport watches lol. This particular model SD4K did not sell so well back in 2014-2016. Compared to the regular date Subs it was much more expensive and the larger case thickness scared off potential buyers. Distinctly remember Rolex AD’s with these sitting in their display cases. I bought mine a few years back as a full set for $10k. They ranged from $8.5-11k depending on condition and if the box papers were included. Now I think you’d pay more like $14-20k. This is a low production model made for only 2.5 years. It’s unique in having all the modern features like Ceramic insert, Chromalight lume, upgraded movement, solid link Glidelock bracelet, no Cyclops but still in the classic 40mm semi-tapered case. It’s uniqueness will surely make it rare and collectible in the future. Collectors are recognizing the potential, quietly buying up the nicer examples and squirreling them away in their collections. It’s nice to see Rolex going back to a more tapered case and getting away from that bloated Supercase. Now if they can go back to the classic case sizes like they did on the new Explorer 36mm
