    Very glad you reviewed this watch, and that you really like it. I bought mine from my AD in Century City back in May. It’s my first Rolex with the ceramic bezel and it’s absolutely beautiful! The cyclops really gives it character and the proportions are perfect. I count myself very fortunate for owning this watch.

      I also just got the 126600. How do you find it, is it not a bit heavy as a daily wear? As compared to the comfort of a normal sub. Or did you get used to the weight?

      That is exactly right. But it is sad for me that they have put the cyclops on it. Not that I don’t like it but it is not SD, it is the SM model. Imagine they do the same wit SM but then without the cyclops. Doesn’t make any sense for me

    Anthony, My Brother, another great review. When I first heard about this one, I was like many and wasn’t sure how to take it. But forgetting about the history of this piece, and just looking at it from its own merits, its a beautiful watch. I would love to own one. Great production value on this review and a big thank you to Bernard Watch for letting you in and doing the review.

    Hi J. I was extremely lucky (the stars aligned) and got a call from my Rolex AD last September and bought one MSRP. It is an amazing watch, I like they cyclops as well. It is a perfect pair with my DSSD-Cameron. I alternate daily between these two watches. :)

  • @yifengyang3846
    @yifengyang3846 6 лет назад +5

    Indeed, I think Rolex changed their design for a reason. The original SD is a classic, however, the sea dweller is always stuck in the middle of DEEPSEA and the SUBMARINER. So for a Sea Dweller to have some significance, it has to change. And the 126600 changed in a way that really suits the modern needs. The trend in the current watch market is, people are tending to wear bigger watches, whether they can look good in them or not. And for the cyclops, it’s a ROLEX classic thing that you can find on a ROLEX. Thirdly, the movement, as you can see from Baselworld 2018, the new Deepseas, bracelets are wider, movement changed. These all reflect Rolex’s Intention in their next generation watches. It’s not the original SD wasn’t a fine watch, it’s just the original SD, will remain as a watch that’s in the past. And stays that way. Just like there are vintage Rolex watches, people liked them when they get them in the 1950s, but people in 2020 May not wear them on a daily basis.

    6:08 "you set the marker to wherever the minute hand is, and as the minutes tick away you can keep the track of elapsed time. In the rare occasion you would use it as a dive watch, you can keep track of your bottom time" - Normally for diving you would set the pip to the target when you need to surface, and the minute hand would provide the count down. That way you see the minute hand get closer to the lumed pip. In other words, you can do elapsed time the way you described using markers on the bezel (workout, etc), or dive time using markers on the dial. Beautiful watch, btw, and a great review.

    • @JerehmiaBoaz

      Except that the numbering on the bezel should be decremental instead of incremental, in other words if you have the pip at 12, the 50 on the bezel should be at 2, the 40 at 4, etc. Sinn is (in)famous for these reverse bezels on many of its watches, like this one: www.sinn.de/en/Instrument_Watches/EZM_12.htm

    • @mountainhobo
      @mountainhobo 6 лет назад

      A little different application with the reverse bezel on the Sinn (air rescue). Normal diving bezel only has a pip lumed up, so the rest of the bezel does not distract you, and you count down to the pip using inside lumed markers. Markers on the bezel are for adding time if you are not limited by deadline to get out, and since you are on the surface, probably in decent light, you don't need lume. That's why I don't like lumed bezels (besides pip), it's jewelry, not a tool watch, like Tudor Blue Pelagos, otherwise gorgeous, but that fully lumed bezel is a Christmas Tree. Notice that Rolex Submariner says true to mission -- only the pip is lumed on the bezel, and it has normal numbering. Most Sinns also have regular numbering when intended as divers.

    • @JerehmiaBoaz
      @JerehmiaBoaz 6 лет назад

      If you look closely you'll see that the Sinn I linked to has a internal "normal" rotating bezel, that's why I chose that watch specifically.

  • @gtcih
    @gtcih 8 месяцев назад

    I still struggle with the explanation of the use of the bezel. Why not set the pip at the 9:50 mark for a 20 minute dive. The pip and minute hand are both lumed and thus easily seen, especially in low light conditions. When the minute hand reaches the pip you know your 20 minutes are up. The markers on the bezel are not lumed (except for the pip) and in low light conditions will not be easily seen. I’m not a diver, but this is my reasoning. Help me out.

    Just to add that it's the short lug length that makes this wear so well. The maxi case on the sub has very long lugs, this does not. So its proportions work a lot better, at least for some. In some ways it wears small for a 43mm but in other ways it does not.

    Great review. Sea Dweller seems to be popular lately with other watch video bloggers. Are they easier to obtain from an AD vs the Submariner because not as popular as the Sub or GMT Master two? I keep hearing there is a serious shortage of Rolex Stainless Steel Sports models in the market. No question it's a beautiful Rolex time piece, but the case would be too thick for my taste. I own an older Submariner pre ceramic with 40mm case and although I am used to its size and thickness, find that a little chunky compared to a 41 Datejust which I own as well. But love both my watches and rotate them. Still, the Sea Dweller looks even more of a tank compared to the Sub and is truly a serious deep sea divers watch.

Myself I've never been that in to Rolex but I saw Aziz Ansari talking about his vintage Rolexes on Hodinkee a couple days back and I was like- whoa, I think I get it. For me it would definitely be an ubër-grail but man, that thing is awesome. Anyway another great vid- I appreciate you going all the way around the watch and talking (quickly) about every aspect. Also appreciate that you review new watches on the strap they ship on. I'm a bone-stock kinda guy- to me it's important to understand how it comes from the factory. Thanks!

      Yeah, seems real shiny and reflective. Actually if the cyclops popped off I wouldn't be sad. It shouldn't be on this watch. I have a 2002 SeaDweller and it is a good size. This thing seems too big.

      @ZCT808 6 лет назад

      That used to be an issue, which is why Rolex never added them to the SD4K. They have now solved this problem and you will NEVER dive to any depth that is will cause that to pop off. You'll be dead long before that happens to the watch.
      As for the shine, I'd say that's probably because he's in a jewelry store with all their special lighting designed to make jewelry look impressive. Rolex ceramic bezels look just fine in real life under any lighting conditions. The Rolex Submariner and GMT Master II have very shiny dials along with the bezel; far shinier than this watch, but in real life it isn't an issue at all.

    ROLEX should provide a wider width for the bracelet and clasp to be proportionate with the enlarged watch. The DEEP SEA is too large for the very narrow bracelet and clasp. This is the disadvantage for the very conservative design of ROLEX.

    Cyclop makes it look like Submariner on steriods, not Seadweller. It disproportionally breaks the dial and is plain tacky. Again, the color scheme is boring black and white. Rolex did a phenomenal job with Deep blue, that dial is breathtaking. Great review though.

    Looks like a essay printed on the dial, I'd like a crown at 12 and the depth rating at 6. I don't need detailed info about the make/model on the damn dial, I bought the damn thing I know it's a sea dweller!

    When rolex makes a 50 year anniversary, they shoud keep the original SD without the cyclops. If you like that than buy the SD. Only for the redline doesn’t make any sense for me. Most people will tell that this watch looks like a SM but just bigger. Free marketing for the SM i would say.

    You can not say pretty unique: it is unique or not. Over use of the throw away word [pretty] cool. Try and be more original. Americans tend to write better than they can speak. Over use of pretty. Kind of: it is or it is not. Try and widen your vocabulary for variety. Listen to this video and you ought to sympathise with my remarks. I wish you were a diver.

    Yet another masterclass from Rolex conning the gullible to buy a piece that isn't selling just by adding some red writing..it worked with the James Cameron and now this...for me the cyclops ruins a very nice watch..

      You wouldn't like James Cameron to know him, he's too hard to deal with and he's a know woman beater too! And Yeah, the loop like that on any Sea-Dweller is very out of place.

      Russell Denney ..my point was dumbass the rumour was the deep sea was not selling well so Rolex just Changed the dial to a graduated Deep blue called it limited which is is not and the Rolex fan boys couldn't buy them fast enough....just the same when Rolex add red writing to anything..Rolex is a masterclass of selling to a gullible fan base ...

      @ Dave Lee: Quite, similarly as ROLEX had done by turning Milgauss's into Air-Kings with a dial and hands change etc.

      Sorry to say, but that is patently wrong. This watch is 43mm, there is no other 43mm Rolex watch. The Deepsea is 44mm, and a fair bit thicker. This is a whole new size watch, i.e. there is no model that has had anything added to it. I believe this is the best, most up to date sized Rolex, in height and diameter, that exists.

    • @cyberline3
      @cyberline3 6 лет назад +1

      Dave Lee glad that you’re basing your entire argument off of a rumor. First, Rolex never called the James Cameron a limited edition. Rolex doesn’t do that. They made it to commemorate the Deepsea Challenge, which they were obviously involved in from the beginning. He even took a prototype with him on the dive. It only shot up in value when it was discontinued, which makes sense. Second, you insinuate that Rolex just adds red writing to watches to increase sales. That’s total bullshit. The last time they had red writing was on the vintage Sea-Dwellers and subs. This 50th Anniversary edition has it as an homage to the original prototypes and is a completely new Sea-Dweller in every way. Feel free to site examples of modern Rolexes where they slapped on red writing to “increase sales”. You come off as a jealous hater who doesn’t really know much about the brand you despise so much. If you don’t like it, just move on. Asshole. Also, you probably shouldn’t be calling other people dumbasses when you write like a fucking child.

    Too loud as a watch. It's too big, too crowded, the ceramic is too much "look at me" and I dont like the crown guards. So my preference definitely goes to a 14060 no date. Much more wearable on an everyday basis, definitely more discreet, and it's more true to the original submariners without any date or cyclops. Plus the crownguards in the old days looked so much better. My grail in the sub family would probably go to the no-crownguard subs or the 5513 with patina and plastic crystal ! My grails combine iconic sports and vintage. If given to me, this Sea Dweller would get 20 days wearing time a year : summer weekends only, in rotation with a titanium diver (lighter) for very hot days.
