BMW F30 side mirror glass replacement

- While doing the modification to add sequential turn signals on my BMW F30 335i I made a rookie mistake and didn’t stay to the center of the mirror while prying on the clips. This resulted in a shattered mirror and both an expensive repair AND more content for this channel.
I was lucky enough to find the mirror used on eBay but in the event you have the same issue and the mirror is not available on the used market it is expensive.

I recently got a pre-owned BMW, and it had the passenger side mirror broken, and I thought I would have to get like the whole part, housing and mirror, but after watching your video, I’m relieved, I think I can fix it, thanks so much for sharing your experience, I greatly appreciate it since I’m kinda new to the world of repairing and modifying a BMW
DIY on these is totally doable. Love these cars.
I just changed out the passenger side mirror on my F10 550i, took me about 2 minutes to remove and install the new mirror. I had a metal pry bar for trim removal (10 inches long or so) and wrapped the end in painter's tape, to prevent any scratching of the mirror bezel/body. And used a poker tool to undo the tab for the wire connections.
The first mirror cap I swapped went well. I had the mirrors tilted up, and even hot with the heaters since I had the car running so they weren’t cold and brittle. But I still cracked the second mirror. I went to the dealership and picked up a OEM mirror for $500 plus $70tax. With the bmw car club membership that knocked it down to $470 and then the bmw credit card brought the total down further to $450.

If you first put the side mirrors tilted to face up as much as possible first, it makes that first round of clips on the bottom a lot more accessible.
Then, you can work your way around that circle evenly doing the right side than the left side. At that point, you can probably fit your fingers behind and push forward to pop the rest of the clips out while supporting the back of a mirror.
This is true. I did that on the second mirror and it is very helpful.
My wife's BMW needs the right side mirror replaced due to cloudiness. I was not sure I could do it myself. After watching your video with your dog supervising I'm confident I can do the swap on her car... she has a Maltese that looks a lot like your pet.

Thanks for the help buddy. Smashed my whole side mirror assembly so I will be replacing the whole thing, I was confused as to how to get those two little wires on or off but you answered my doubt, thumbs up!

Just broke mine🥲 literally changing the indicator with a sequential ones and carbon fiber mirror caps. Broke the right side mirror.

Sucks breaking a mirror. Check eBay and some salvage yards. Mine was 125 from a wrecked BMW but they are 350 or 500 new.

If you could kindly inform on what each wire does, that'd be great. Someone stole my mirror the other day and the two small wires you connected with the new mirror is still intact on mine, but for the last wire, the connector was ripped off and the inside is showing. I'm just curious which one's the defroster and such.
Also if you can link the part or include the part number in your description, that'd be great as well.
I'm not sure what each of the wires do. I was lucky enough that mine were all still intact so I just reattached them.
Thanks for the tutorial brother🙏🏻 I also accidentally broke the passenger mirror changing the mirror cover it looks horrible now with greenish yellow color. Now I just have to find this exact mirror for my 2012 bmw 328i
I found mine on ebay. Think I was lucky. I would check with any salvage places that may have a wrecked F30 in their inventory. Good luck.

Doing this myself. Auto body shop wanted over $600 to do this... out of their minds.
That is crazy expensive. It is a doable DIY as you can see.

What about just the glass? I broke mine, like you have but, I purchased just the glass. There’s no info out there showing how to remove the glass from that “casing”. Thanks !
Marlon Da Silva, the mirrors that don’t come with the casing are the non-heated ones. The ones that come in the casing are the heated ones, and don’t get removed :)
It's a lot easier if you tilt the mirror up prior to prying up

This was the one that I purchased. Finding it on the used market will be cheaper. I recommend just keep looking on ebay or salvage yards.
Just cracked mine. no matter how careful I was I still managed to break it. Now in search for a replacement.

Someone stole my mirror and clipped the wires... does anyone know the colors of the wires? What color wires go to the white connector (dimmer) and what color wires go the heater? any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I had to replace mine too because I also broke the glass but now when I go into reverse my right Mirror won’t automatically adjust when I’m reversing like I used to, would the 2 black wires have anything to do with it? I think I may have installed them in the opposite slots
That wouldn't cause it as the adjustment happens in the housing not the glass. Assuming you mean the shift down to see the curb. Make sure the slider switch for the mirrors on the drivers door is set to the left. If it is to the right I believe it won't automatically turn down the passenger mirror
Is there any difference on how the leads are connected? Because the original mirror on my f20 had the connections vertically, and the new one has them horizontally, so i hope i did not connect them the wrong way
I would think they should be similar. If it works I wouldn't worry about the orientation of the leads.
I can find it in Greece with just 20 euros (about 22$) , what is wrong?
That is super cheap. Make sure it is the heated one if that is what your car takes
@@MessyGarageBMW It is heated and the price difference is very large comparing to the one you got so thats why im very concerned weather the ones im looking for are not what i really need for replacement!

hi, do you think it's very easy to break the glass? or it happened just because you tried to take it of from the wrong way?
I think if you take better care than I did the first time and make sure you are prying where the clips are in the middle it wouldn't break so easy. I would still be careful though.
Does anyone know what for is that white connector?
The wires are used for the heating of the mirrors.
@@MessyGarageBMW so there are 4 wires for mirror heating?
After looking at it closer, the white connector may have something to do with an auto dimming feature or something. I believe the other 2 wires are the heating but not 100% sure what the wires attached to the white plug are for.

Just like bmw F30 mirror glass or something like that.
I broke my mirror to and a watch your video sooo in other words is not easy sometimes ones doit and another no and always is the passanger mirror is curse
When I did it I had no idea how many others had been this unlucky too. Hope the video helps people fix the broken mirrors. Sorry that it happened to so many.

I cant get the white part off
If you are talking about the white plug for the wire, you may need to use a small screwdriver to coax the clip to release. I needed to use that method at about 6:12 in the video.
MessyGarage i got it bro my shit was stuck so i put a knife under the release part snd broke the plastic from the old mirror and popped on new one
