- The Vendors Task Force patrols at Santa Monica Beach on Sunday, May 29, 2022. Several citations were issued.
The multi-department Vendors Task force consists of Santa Monica Police Officers, Santa Monica Code Enforcement Officers, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel, Santa Monica Harbor Patrol Officers, Public Works, and private security guards.
Sidewalk vending can be conducted on most sidewalks and pedestrian paths in the City, but there are restrictions on where stationary vending can take place and the hours when roaming vending can take place in residential locations. In addition, no vending is allowed on private property, the Santa Monica Pier (including within 100 feet of the Pier), a farmer’s market, permitted community events or filming activities, a bike path, a street, driveway, or public parking lot.
Stationary sidewalk vending is also prohibited within 25 feet of the Third Street Promenade, the Transit Mall, the Beach, in residential areas, the 1700 block of Ocean Front Walk, and portions of the Palisades Park within 500 feet of the Pier entrance. Roaming sidewalk vending is not allowed in residential areas between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m.
The newly formed task force has been instrumental in helping to educate and enforce the City’s safety laws and ensuring safe sidewalk vending practices across the City.

It's amazing how SM let the vendors get out of hand for almost two years when at the begging they could have nipped it in the bud and the reason was to create this "Vendor Task Force" there was no need for it if they just did their job from the beginning. by letting the illegal vendors take over SM local permitted vendors lost revenue, and the illegal vendors damage the landmark historical SM pier woold planks!

Can someone explain to me who the hell this little girl is in sweatpants always pushing a cart. She for sure knows they are not allowed but is there every weekend.

She actually did get a permit, so she can be there. Guess vendors always cave. The issue is they don't want to pull the carts, they want to post in one spot. The permit they signed states they cannot, if no paying customer in a set time, they have to move. If after so many fines, 4 I think, they can have the permit revoked. That escalates the charges. They claim they don't care, but in less than 6 months they all caved in and got permits. It is working, they're just pissed at losing.

Any permitted vendor who pays taxes (if there are any) must be making bank down there since these others keep sending them customers. The guy at 6:12 seems like he can barely stand up.
