- Venice, Los Angeles - May 24, 2024: On Friday, a significant cleanup operation was conducted at Venice Beach, targeting a local homeless encampment with the involvement of a multi-agency task force. This team comprised members from the Los Angeles Police, Los Angeles Park Rangers, the Los Angeles Police Department, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), and the office of Councilwoman Traci Park.
The operation was safely and efficiently managed with the presence of Los Angeles Police Officers and Park Rangers. It marked a concerted effort among the Department of Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Clean Harbors Environmental Inc. Team members donned protective gear to sort and appropriately dispose of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
This cleanup is part of the City of Los Angeles' broader strategy to address homelessness while improving public health and sanitation. It underscores the city’s commitment to addressing these pressing urban challenges.
Additionally, the initiative at Venice Beach includes weekly maintenance of beach restrooms, which are often used as shelters by homeless individuals. This effort aims to enhance public facilities and directly tackle homelessness issues. LAHSA plays a crucial role during these operations by providing support services including food, water, and hygiene kits, reflecting a compassionate approach to the crisis.
Notably, no citations for public camping violations were issued during this cleanup, indicating the city's preference for supportive over punitive measures.
This cleanup is part of a series of ongoing actions, including regular Friday cleanups along the Venice Beach Boardwalk, all under the supervision of Los Angeles Park Rangers. These initiatives are essential components of the city’s comprehensive strategy to maintain cleanliness and safety while addressing the root causes of homelessness. Effective coordination by Councilwoman Traci Park continues to be crucial, highlighting a balanced and humane approach to these challenges.

Patient rights end when they break the law. We are sick of this.
We need more mental institutions. High housing prices are a problem, but not as big as the drug addiction and mental health problem.
SPOT ON, nobody addresses the core of the issue and that is mental health. Most homeless are mentally ill, but left to roam the streets because nobody wants to pay for the system that would move them to supervised health care, just dump the problem on hard working urban dwellers.

What a waste
The deinstitutionalization movement that began in California in the 1960s made things worse. It's simply forced the mentally ill into jails and prisons which are not set up to provide care for brain illnesses. Many live in “community” clinics, i.e., the streets. Homelessness by the way is a mental illness problem not a housing shortage.

How many police , and park rangers , and maintenance workers , and social workers and sanitation workers does it take to clean a public restroom in LA? Apparently it now takes an ARMADA! Wonder what it cost to clean one stall sending that many people ..

Unfortunately if you look at the past videos if you only sent one cop or one park ranger the homeless give them the finger and stay in the bathroom. I agree, this is a tremendous waste of resources. It would be better served to close the bathrooms at sunset and open them after sunrise. That way they can't sleep in the bathrooms.

To prevent the rest room from being used as a place to live by homeless people, it is best to change the design of the rest room to prevent homeless people from using it as a place to live.

Pourquoi ne pas obliger ces sans abri à effectuer des travaux d'intérêt général , dans le but qu'ils retrouvent un peu de dignité . Il suffit de tendre la main pour les remettre sur les rails . Quant à la folle qui sévit régulièrement pourquoi ne pas la mettre dans un établissement psychiatrique , je pense qu'elle a un sérieusement besoin d'être soignée .
