- In TLC's Sister Wives, Kody has tried repeatedly to convince, cajole, and threaten Christine and the other wives to bend to his will and the principles of his patriarchy. Now that Christine is expressing a determination to be free, he decided to use Truly to break her. Big mistake. Kody has poked the Momma bear by threatening her child. If he is concerned about visitation Christine has said on numerous occasions that she wants that. What she is refusing to do is make herself and her children subject to Kody's convenience.

To be honest, it’s it’s not scary if you know the rules and if you know the rules that basically tells Cody that no lie he says it’s going to work the women have a mind of their own and so do the kids. The kids are adults now they don’t need parenting, and they certainly do not like Cody
When Kody goes into his 'confessional' and "explains" to the audience why he does the things he does, I feel like peeling the skin off of my face would be more enjoyable than listening to his lies. He is, without a shadow of a doubt the most selfish individual I've ever seen. He talks about how Christine and Janelle are 'poisoning the water' against him with his kids, but he is the only one who ever says anything bad about a parent to the kids, at least on camera and if he will say that to them on camera, knowing the world is watching, what does he say in private?
He doesn't see, or understand, how a mother could choose her children over him, because he has no concept of what it's like to love something or someone more than he loves himself. Christine doesn't want to keep Truely away from him, not because it would hurt him to do so, but because it would hurt Truely. He has divided his family over his behavior and has used love as a condition to make his children and wives knuckle under to him, it worked with Meri, and I think to a degree it works with Robyn, but it will never work with Christine and Janelle. He's going to find himself a very lonely old man some day, and will want those kids who he is so callously tossing aside right now.

Kody is not a complicated man. He’s linear, and selfish in his thought process, and thinks marital intimacy is a commodity, to be traded in exchange for obedience; and his love is always “transactional”. He’ll react the same way when Meri finally grows a set & leaves, he’ll definitely want “the family’s” $$ share of Lizzie’s B&B, and if Meri does NOT acquiesce to his bullying, THAT will change him forever. (buckle up, Robyn), and it’ll be allllll up to Robyn to talk him off the ledge.

As much as it must hurt these children to not have a relationship with their dad, it is probably the best thing for them. A bad father is better than no father does not always hold true. The constant gaslighting and cruel treatment Kody shows his children is so damaging to a child's mental health. Just look at Christine's before and after Kody photos. Christine looks like a whole new person.

It's not uncommon for support to be paid, even when custody is split 50/50. If one parent makes $20 k and the other makes $200 k, they would have been raising the child in the fairly comfortable circumstances of a $220 k household income. It is unfair to the child, after a divorce, to have to go back and forth from abject poverty to comfort. The higher earner would be obliged to pay the other parent so that the child could continue with sports, and good quality food, and their own bedroom, etc.

It's almost like reliving my divorce watching this. I swear Kody and my ex (traditional Mormon believer) are related. I really started noticing it 2 seasons ago. I totally feel for Christine and can heavily relate. When my ex responded to divorce/custody papers (we had been separated for a few years), his comments for wanting custody was so that he could file the taxes on the kids and I could pay child support for a change. But yeah, looking back at when I left my ex and watching the show lately, it's like deja vu.
It breaks my heart for all the kids, they just want their dad and his unconditional love.

This man talks out of both sides of his mouth. One minute he wants 50/50 custody, and the very next minute doesn't have room for Truly to stay the night so she goes to stay in Janelle and Savannahs trailer so Christine could get some things done with the move.

First season Robyn promised Janelle and "the family", that she would get a job. Never happened. And, Kody doesn't reenforce Robyn making any contribution to the family, or for her and her 3 kids.

Kody is absolutely talkiung out of his ass! I was a paralegal for several years (11) in both Arizona and North Carolina. I actually moved to North Carolina from Northern Arizona and worked in Flagstaff. The state is NOT going to come in and remove the child! Secondly he has no idea what he is talking about with regard to child support calculations, which are determined by the court. They take in to account how much each parent makes from their job or business as well as how many investments and holdings they have. Even if he wanted a 50/50 custody determination it would still give the primary parent a healthy child support amount. Additionally, that type of situation is very rare and Judges do not like to do it because it is very hard on the child and the only time I ever saw it done was when the parents both lived within a couple of miles of each other and the child could go to the same school all year. I was actually divorced in Coconino County. Flagstaff is the county seat. Since Kody is not listed as the father on Truly's birth certificate than therein lies another problem. There will have to be a determination of parentage via a DNA test. The court is not even going to entertain any type of custody agreement until it is determined that he is indeed the father. He most likely consulted with an attorney who explained all of this to him and it is most likely why we see Christine doing interviews with People and US magazine saying that Kody does not really see Truly and that she will call to update him on things. As for being involved she says "He is still working on that". She is a class act and honestly he never deserved her!
My granddaughter parents actually had a 50/50 custody and I think her dad did it mostly to not pay child support because her stepmom his wife is the one that took care of the child when she was there. He didn't get off till 7:00 at night and we found out she actually put that 6-year-old child to bed at 7:00 every night she was alone in her room we didn't find this out until my daughter her mother died and my granddaughter went to live with her dad full time. Imagine how awful thinking well at least my granddaughter is somewhere she was already living 50% of the time only to find out from the time her mom died she was being abused and CPS had to step in can you imagine a little 6-year-old whose mom just died and you find out her step mom's abusing her? Once we found out then Kayla would go to her aunt's house after school everyday tell her dad got off work. So 50/50 don't really mean jack shit in many ways.

Just discovered your channel and my first time watching. I have to admit I am elated to hear from a African-American MALE in respect to a evening TV show. Great to have that perspective.
I agree with you and take it a step further and state there is no such thing as an actual 50/50 split in regards to co-parenting. Whom ever has the child during in school time already has at least 75% of caring for that child. Unless your child will attend two different schools every year which would not be in the best interest of the child. 50/50 would mean that it works out that each parent would have 6 months each with that child and provide for them financially, health insurance, clothing, living arrangements, food, school supplies and all. The child would have actually two separate and complete set ups, one at mom's house and one at dad's. It rarely works out that way.
The fact that he is so overly involved with Robin's children, who are not actually his blood related children, but in order for Robin to marry him he had to divorce Mary and legally marry Robin just so they could take the children away from their biological father makes a BIG statement. He is helping and caring for all of Robin's children both under aged and adults. Just as Christine says, Kody didn't even have 50/50 time for her children and they were living only a few miles away. So why so important now when she wants out that you are trying to lie about you all have to have 50/50 custody?
Kody tipped his hand when he started talking about the "manosphere." By some of the guys in that community 50/50 custody would mean he is somehow relieved of any financial obligations. During one of their discussions Kody said "let's just get the 50/50 in writing and we'll work out the details later." Translation: "Put it in writing that I already pay half her expenses, just in case you take me for support. As for me actually seeing her? I may have time twice a year, if I don't have anything with my actual family." Sad.

He's not listed so they could take advantage of social programs prior to being on TLC. Kody has kids of convenience. By keeping himself separate it becomes easier to walk away when they become inconvenient.

They should try to work it out without the court system, However, many, many lawyers will give you a free half hour consultation so you can decide if you want to use them or not. She should talk to at least one lawyer before she agrees to anything.

You are 100 percent correct! Finall! I had to explain to so many people why it was Kody want joint custody. It is just a means to avoid child support. I am a lawyer and I can’t tell you how many times I have seen the judge order no child support with joint custody and then all of a sudden one of the parents can’t consistently do their time for taking care of the child. Now the other parent is taking care of the child all the time and will have to go back to court to get child support.

Every husband tries to get custody of the kids. They never see them when they can. He wants to still control Christine. My husband thought if He didn't see his son he didn't have to pay child support. My son was better off without him. I went through all of this myself.

Never try to threaten someone to stay in a toxic relationship with family court. A good lawyer would say that and explain your child needs that her might even explain medical insurance coverage and why those things are important. Also why the other parent should be paying for that upon the child support. I seen it happen in my own extended family its a easy to get dragged short of tying yourself to a truck tail.

My dad paid alimony and child support for 2 kids- and we lived with him FULL TIME. Mom was abusive, but it couldn’t be proven in court (her word against ours). She took a deal for the money, in turn, she left us alone/stayed away completely. That’s how much my dad loved us.

If Christine and Janelle truly want to hurt Kody and Robyn all they have to do is approach TLC with a new show idea starring only the two of them. Nobody is watching the Kody, Robyn, an Meri show. The best Kody could do is try and recruit new Sister Wives, but that's just going to turn into Kody lusting after Instagram model wanna be's.
