- In TLC's Sister Wives Kody is continuing to block Janelle from gaining any assets as a means to keep her from leaving him. In the wake of Christine leaving Janelle is seeing Kody for who he is and how vulnerable she has become.

Kody lives by the phrase "what's mine is mine, and what's yours is ours," and by "ours" he means himself and Robyn.
Except for the kids. His & Robyn's kids are theirs, Janelle & Christine's kids are not. How he says "Janelle's kids and Christine's kids" really pisses me off! He only claims Sobyns kids. What a creep.
I broke my heart to hear Janelle say she couldn't leave even if she wanted to because she has no assets. She was the wife who supported the family before Robyn, she made the most money of any of the wives and probably Kody too. She put up money in her 401k and in retirement and then when they left Utah, she cashed those in to help the family survive. She deserves so much better than this.
That IS heartbreaking. For her, of all of the wives, to have no assets is incredibly unfair. You're right, she has worked and earned the most money of any of the wives, and she gives to the family when asked, even it will be detrimental to her. I'm actually surprised because I thought she was the most money savvy of all of them. That makes her sacrifices all the more selfless. She cashed in her retirement accounts to help the family move. Now, she has nothing but a trailer.

J is intelligent but she also seems to believe the best in others to a fault. Like a mix of C & a bit of M's delusions.
The only mistake Janelle has made was believing her husband. Janelle is a very responsible, clear headed, mature woman who also happens to have a big heart. None of those attributes are bad, but in this situation, you can see exactly how easy it is for victims to be taken advantage of financially. BUT do not underestimate Janelle. She is a strong and intelligent woman.

But by doing it as the legal wife she lowered the percentage that the other wife gets. So if just Kody and Meri bought the property, Meri would have 50% and Kody would have 50% then if Kody and Robyn divorced Kody would get 25% and Robyn would have 25% and would still have her 50%. But by putting Robyn on as a legal owner Meri has 33.33%, Kody has 33.33%, and Robyn has 33%. So Kody and Robyn have controlling interest in the property and could force the sale of the property out from under whichever wife and leave her with only 33.33% of the profits. They should be using LLC to protect the non legally married wives or put each of the properties in that wife’s name only.

When Christine was watching the kids she also had a night job, which is why she asked Cooter to help put the kids to bed but he refused. Janelle has been a main contributor to the family since day 1. Everyone always said Kody and Robyn took advantage of the other wives financially. I didn’t believe it until now. I thought they were too smart to give him money after Vegas. Boy was I wrong. Robyn had scammed them to keep as much asset for her children as possible. They didn’t want Christine to leave because Janelle might’ve too and Robyn/Kody home and land are very much attached to the other wives money. They owed them money if they asked it back they would have to sell their stuff and Robyn children would’ve lost their assets. Christine left with less money than she deserved. Trust me. Christine knew if she didn’t protect her money by putting on a house right away her money would’ve gone to Robyn like Janelle money.

If you go back to one of the first few episodes of them moving to Arizona. Cody came into a family meeting one day very excited, because he has been told that they could make a lot of money splitting that land up into parcels and selling them like a developer would. I have to wonder if it was strategic for he and Robin to buy that large house to live in permanently. Then parcel up the land into several lots to sell and make a great deal of money by doing so.

I'm like her and like to play by the rules and it is horrible that she is at this point in her life and has no assets. I certainly hope she figures something out to get her share of the money.
You forget Janelles money went to Christine-Christine then took it to start her own life. Everyone took advantage of the situation
Janelle gave her money to Kody. Kody then gave Christine money for her down payment. After Christine's LV house sold she gave the money back to Kody, and took his name off her house to free him up to buy Robyn's house. What Janelle was talking about, regarding the loan to Christine was the "family" in the same way.
I never watched this show but I have known if it’s existence since inception. I only got interested in it on YT as Christine’s story came as a suggestion. My daughter and grandson finally escaped the financial, emotional, psychological and verbal abuse from the Narc in their (our) lives in late 2019. The trauma to her and our family has taken years of weekly therapy to get back to “normal”, where the triggers of anxiety, fear and depression no longer rule the hours.
Seeing Christine’s triumphant separation from this toxicity is to be celebrated! Holding out hope for Janelle!

Kody covertly trying to sell the ladies on the one big house was his sneaky way, he hoped, to get control of all the monies from the sale of the homes in Vegas. Coyote Pass became a nightmare. He moved there thinking they'd build his massive home. Christine put the kabosh on that idea and then he got sick of the wives fighting over the lots. It was at that time that I think he gave up on polygamy. I remember they even had a restaurant sit downs and he apologized to the women about not treating them fairly and he didn't know if he wanted to do polygamy.He has voiced that several times. The women heard that. I do think Kody just didn't want to do this anymore. As the kids grew up and left- he felt that it was over- finally over. Robyn seems to be the only one that still believed in the religious aspects, and Meri to an extent as well. No one should have to live polygamy. It's not fun for the husband either. He can't keep up with 4 wives in his 50's. His testosterone has slowed down- his energy has too.
Yeah I feel sorry for Kody too nobody sees it from his perspective, like everybody's feeling happy about Christine and how she was treated so badly, but I remember from the first episode her not being very open about Robyn coming into the family. It was ok for the other wives to share Kody with her but when it became her time all of a sudden every single this is a problem.

Even if they had a “family money” argument, Christine cared for the whole family’s children for a period of time. The childcare alone would put Kody in a deficit of value.
If Cody dies Robin has a legal right to everything his name is on because she's his legal wife. If he has a life insurrance that all falls to her, not the family. I follow another tea channel who also does sister wives and a couple of weeks ago she explained how much have Robyn's name on it but not the other wives or together with another wife and Cody. Janelle believed in coyote pass and believed they would build fast, I think that's why she felt it was okay to lend money to the purchase of Robyn's house. My main question is always why buy a giant house so you're no longer able to save to pay off your land so you're able to get a loan to build a house. The house they'll be able to build when time comes will be much smaller than what Cody has with Robyn currently. The family makes a lot less money from TLC than they used to. He has a job selling guns at gunshows, which is not a steady income. Robyn doesn't work. They use the service of a nanny for $20 an hour. She has 5 kids at home where at least one is an adult. Does the adult children contribute any money into the household or are the on "freeloader" status? He will never live in this big of a house again, of course he's not eager to build on coyote pass.

You are incorrect about how Christine had Kody remove his name from the house.
When Christine and Ysabel came back from Ysabel's surgery, in Oct 2020. Kody signed the house over to Christine Kody signed October 31, 2020, registered at the tax assessment office November 6, 2020.
Kody and Robyn were getting I believe it was a equity loan on their home. Kody's name would have shown up for the mortgage on Christine's house. So to get approved for the loan Kody removed his name. Girl who is in Sister wives group showed me the paperwork, because there was a rumor that they were turned down.
That makes sense, I figured it out after the video.
Is is why it is illegal. I wish AZ would look at his assets and businesses. He already admitted hiding money in names in case of arrest.
I wish we could get an attorneys perspective on this matter for Janelle in regards to the assets and investing all her money in sobbins house? I'm so curious what she could take him for if anything

Never thought of the five lots for Robyn’s kids. I think it is spot on. The whole five lots thing never made any sense to me before.
When Kody dies Robyn inherits him. No way he put his kids in the will, and Robyn will leave everything to her kids

If anyone deserved a nanny it was Christine when all those kids were little.
All of these podcasts saying the same thing yet the law or lawyers have not stepped in to assist. All of the podcasts like Kody say negative things about the 3 wives. Christine, now Janelle are receiving positive praises. It's embarrassing how he talks to them and how he shunned his biological kids.
Honestly I hope she sues them. She has years of video evidence of him saying that they are one big family. There's got to be a way to treat it like a business between 5 people and fairly divide everything.

Kody and Robyn have used Janelle from the beginning for her buying power and money. Janelle was the one who paid off Robyn’s massive debt so she could legally buy the house in Vegas. Now we find out she and Meri both gave the equity from their Vegas house sales to put towards Robyn’s million $$ home. Now there’s no money for Janelle to have a home. Kody stalls and hemhaws around every single time anyone mentions starting to build on Coyote Pass. I remember when they still were in Vegas buying the AZ property that Kody said something about holding onto the land and just letting the value increase and then sell it off for mass profits. That’s my theory-that Kody knew they would never build on Coyote Pass and he plans to sell it and keep all the money to pay off Robyn and his million dollar home and leave everyone else twisting in the wind while they take all the money for themselves.
Janelle needs a lawyer to intervene. Because who wouldn't trust a man standing in his underwear on their future palaces? Janelle can check out any time she wants but she can never leave.

If when Christine first leaving and knew that Janelle at that time was not, IMO Christine should have put her part Coyote Pass into Janelle's name.. Janelle was the only one that has constantly wanted to build there. Then Janelle would have more assets to wield against Sobyn/Kody

Cody should understand that Christine worked harder than all of them did in the beginning because not only did she raise all those kids and probably prepared meals, she also homeschooled them all and if he thinks that’s not working, he’s more of an A-hole than I thought
I thought that when they moved to Flagstaff they wanted to rent houses until they could start building, but they couldn't find enough rental properties, so they ended up buying. Kody's brilliant plan apparently did not include researching the Flagstaff rental market. The down payments on the houses could have been used to pay down/off Coyote Pass. If I recall correctly, at least one of the women rented a house and that had to move because the landlord wanted to sell the house, and she couldn't find another house to rent. That's what I remember.

Unfortunately, even if Janelle owned her home, she wouldn't automatically get all the proceeds if she decided to leave (at-least legally). Christine's house sale was just an easy transaction, but she owned it with Kody, so just because her name was on the deed, didn't guarantee her all of the proceeds. If this went to court, I do not know how it would be split up. I would assume they court would make them sell their joint assets (Coyote Pass and Christines house) then split the profits.
Courts are not set up to deal with non-marriage division of assets. In a 2 person marriage, most people move around money - taking out a 2nd mortgage to pay for college, or a business or healthcare. What the Browns were doing is kindda normal except there is no failsafe if someone wants to leave. In a divorce, money assets would be split in half. This can be selling everything and dividing the proceeds, or amicably deciding who gets the car, who gets the house etc. If Robin who is legally married to Kody wanted to divorce, ALL of the assets Kody is on would be considered - including Marys B+B and Janelles 5th wheel. (not actually sure if his name is on them, but if they are, they are his assets)
We haven't dug into the specifics family finances much in the past, but it seems like all of the adults worked and contributed to the the family financially (even Christine + Robin) They all also shared in the child raising (except for Kody - who doesn't "baby-sit") They all should have 20% of the assets, BUT they are not a business, they are nothing legally. Except for child support, which most of the Browns have aged up from, Kody has no legal connection except for what assets they share. What is even more unfortunate is that Janelle doesn't (or soon wont) have children under 18 to be able to get child support. When people complain about divorce being unfair, remember it is to protect from financial ruin.
I will say our queen Janelle is making $$$ in her MLM (though I would love her doing something more substantial) + is getting paid individually by TLC. She also is still very young with lovely children who will support her if necessary. She will totally get herself out of this mess.
I feel bad for Janelle. I hope she manages to fet out of there with some money in her pocket. Kody and Robyn only care about themselves.

You're right, Christine was wanting to leave Kody when they were in Vegas. Robyn told Meri in a different episode that she just knew because she went through a divorce herself. However later Robyn acts like she is surprised when Christine wants to leave.
Cody could’ve never asked for a legal agreement regarding custody of truly because if I understand it, they all got government assistance because they had no husband in the picture and she was a single parent so that would be probably a crime committed on the government. and also he would have back child support to pay and again pay back the government for everything they gave Christine as a single parent of six.
Hopefully this will be a lesson to any woman thinking about that lifestyle! The only woman that has legal rights is the one that's legally married! That's why you are so right! Get a contract that spells out everything if it goes south! Appreciate you James for bringing this up!
The problem with their Coyote pass plans is that there is a pipeline going through the property, "pond" lot is not buildable or an actual pond, it's runoff.
