All art is owened by it's respective owners and credit goes to the artists. I do not intend to claim any of it as my own, any art that is subsiquently used from Comic Books/Graphic Novels is purely for representational purposes.
Zeb Wells dropping a good issue of ASM feels like a good episode of the Flash in its later seasons. It’s great to see a glimpse of what it used to be, and could be again but it’s too little too late to make the season/run good.
That’s the best analogy of Wells run I’ve ever heard
After everything Zeb Wells has done? Making one good comic doesn't make up for years of terrible Spider-Man stories especially not owning responsibility.
I honestly don't think it's his fault it's sleazy Marvel executives that want him to make those comics because they're used to Spiderman being a young college student that can't ever be happy and needs to be young even though it should be better for him to be married and have a good life like what the ultimate comics did recently
@@alexzemaitis1207I will never understand this. They want a young spider man? Miles Morales is literally RIGHT THERE! I will never get why they refuse to let Peter grow up and be happy. Like did Spider verse and Ultimate Spider man not show them how much fans would kill for a mature and happy Peter with a wife and children?
Personally it feels too little too late for zeb wells to save this awful run of amazing Spider-Man at least in my opinion. Also side note that letters page with Nick Lowe confirming he doesn’t give a damn about Peter Parker and Mary Jane relationship and just want to have Peter have no development whatsoever, which is just dumb and just proves my point Nick Lowe doesn’t give a damn about Peter Parker Spider-Man as a character as a whole at least in my opinion.
The past couple issues had been good actually, but no author gets a 55 issue grace peroid. He was so bad that it got to the point where he created such a bad taste in my mouth that when he does well, I can't enjoy it as much. Its like seeing a jerk get a promotion at work. There's not enough time for his run to change how I feel about him honestly.
Happy to see that tombstone is actually cool like in spectacular Spider-Man
I do sometimes wonder if an interview with Zeb Wells could be done to explain if anything was happening behind the scenes during his run. Do you think that it could work.
Also you are partically right about the Spider Goblin Arc as it was supposed to be the end of his run, but it was extneded for six more issues and it was decided to use it to tie up the Tombstone lose end. As far as we know the 8 Deaths of Spider Man had nothing to do with it.
He totally didn’t intend for this to be the end of the run. It was going to end with the Goblin stuff. Which is why it’s so weird that this is filler. I feels like he was asked to stay on for another couple of months and he said fine Nick, but only if I get to write what I want to. lol.
I do have to point out though that Jackpot does NOT have her own comic that Marvel are pushing. She had a four issue mini with Black Cat that sank abysmally because hardly anyone likes MJ as Jackpot and everyone was written poorly. She has recently shown up in Venom War, called Peter “Tiger” but also called Paul “Baby” so it’s swings and roundabouts. People even cheered at the end of the last one when she gets in big trouble, just like when the fake kids got erased - and when people are celebrating the fact two “cute” kids got eliminated you you’ve gone wrong in your story.
There was no need to split up Peter and MJ this way in order to make her Jackpot, and the whole powers thing has been so poorly executed being “random but not random” and dreadfully OP, so it has really not found many fans. The fact that MJ seems to be so competent for no reason and with no training is just weird. But Lowe and co can’t seem to accept that their idea is garbage so we’re stuck with it.
You’ve got a point there! Also on the jackpot stuff, I do get the impression they were trying to push her. She’d appear in the ASM books every few issues with massive emphasis on her powers rather than her as a character, along with the fact they tried to launch her own series which failed massively.
@@LewisFilmsProductions oh yeah they were (and still are) definitely trying to push her as Jackpot, it was more the point that she doesn’t have her own proper comic and I doubt she ever will. Even paired with a character as popular as Black Cat they couldn’t make the mini sell.
I don’t know if the Jackpot idea came first or the desire to split up Peter and MJ came first. Chicken or egg. The dumb thing is they could have probably done both without riling up the fan base so badly, and then maybe people would have accepted it more readily. We needed as you say greater focus on MJ and her emotions and feelings, her growth and development, than just “pew pew I’ve got all the powers now and kicking butt right out of the gate!”
@LewisFilmsProductions I will say I did love how the writers of the Venom War Spiderman side story just had fun with Venom tearing into the new dynamic MJ and Peter had. And even telling Peter he can tell that Peter still is deeply in love with MJ. And somewhat roasting Paul was a big bonus.
Sadly MJs powers were just handled poorly and the fact that it has no real limits to the ability is just stupid, with no cool down period and Paul just getting rid of tinks and risks. Sure we did the most powerful power it can give her in the Black Cat Darkweb book but when it showed that she became a reality warping goddess (albeit a limited range) i checked out.
That and it proved she doesn't have every power imaginable if that was the most powerful it could give. Just 1140 different powers in an average 20 character 3 roll slot. Which is still ridiculous and just means her power is whatever the writer needs it to be. That and she just knows how every power works with no prior training and can use them flawlessly, which also makes no sense. And as for her being able to handle goons and stuff like that in h2h makes no sense as the training she and Peter had with Cap when they were married was retconned I believe.
It doesn't help that the writing/dialogue in the books she's supposed to be the main focus on or secondary character is terrible, leading to abysmal sales. I just hope that Wells and Venom War is this characters' swan song as I've not heard of her being planned to appear in anything else aside from this Venom War tie-in. Cause at this point you can tell they just don't know what to really do with the character
@@sliferslaker3806 Totally. The thing that made me laugh the most is how quickly MJ has started "talking" like a super. She even made some technobabble in the Venom War stuff IIRC, since when was she a physicist LMAO.
This Jackpot nonsense was the biggest heap of garbage anyone could possibly have come up with. And then they made Paul her man in the chair just so we had to keep seeing him, they are so desperate for us to like the man who stole MJs heart it's almost funny.
It too late now. Zeb Well only write this issue because he leaving ASM.
So their trying to make spider man relatable so it’s relatable to you for your gf to cheat on you and then hangout with the guy she cheated on with you seriously need therapy because that’s not relatable at all
Yeah because this just shows that Peter Parker way is outdated
He can cook it's just marvel editorial that told him what to do
You can't blame everything on editorial, the writer himself also matters. I do believe Editorial forced him to kill Kamala in his book but I don't see them forcing him to add her later on in his Goblin Arc
I think it is too late especially remember I said about that time the original Doc Ock arms becomes Jameson’s dog like that could have worked as a comedy in concept but with Paul still leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
Have you seen Batman Caped Crusader because it had me thinking of about adult oriented Spider-Man series that try to be subversive?
*Please* don't go giving them ideas...
That maybe not a bad idea.
@@1992holycrapwho?
In General, What if Teresa Parker(Peter Parker’s sister) lived and grew up with Peter?
He had a sister??
@@harryfleutv666 yes
@@harryfleutv666Yes he does. Although Marvel keeps going back and fourth with her.
@@harryfleutv666they can’t decide if she’s actually his sister or not
I'm so done with the ASM series to the point i started enjoying the spider-boy serie.
Same
Zeb Wells was never the real villain, Nicholas Albert Lowe is (said his full name to seperate him from Nick Lowe the musician)
Lmaoo
I refer to him as Nick Lowe-Point
Nick Lowe-Brain
@@billymccrary2246makes sense because he’s a freaking idiot
to quote the singer Timbaland "It's too late to apologize (It's too late)"
This Zeb Wells Guy doesn’t know how make a good Spider-Man.
Zeb wells is good with small issue stuff not big mythos stories
Too little and too late..
Hope he never gets Asm ever again.
He better get rid of Paul before he leaves.
Paul has to go. Permanently.
@@darthkurlandyeah
That's the only thing he can do now, but we all know he won't
It’s sad that we can’t see spiderman actually succeed, yea the whole thing is anyone could wear the mask and supposed to relate to those who are broke, those who aren’t in a relationship, etc
I’m afraid it’s time for Wells to face the music.
I have not read it yet, but I find it hard to swallow seeing "good" and "Zeb Wells" in the same sentence. He has NO Spider stories to tell...
I think You're right some writers like Wells are not bad, they are kind of just meh, to be a bad writer I think you need more misses than hits, kind of like a balancing act, but the exception would be if you have horrible run that brings down a writer's entire record.
Unfortunately yeah
One good comic does not make one a good writer and his writing on the Venom books haven't been good either to the point he was the one to pen the infamous (thankfully now of days non canon thanks to Donny Cates) Dark Origin. Like sure editorial did play a part in drastically damaging the book (heck they have a reputation for hating MJ) but Zed did play a part in this as well.
It's too little, way too late. one okay issue every once in a while, can't redeem the river of garbage, this run has been.
Wells is 2 years too late to finally drop so much as a “decent” story for this series. And when he does, it’s not the story the fans really want, like gee idk Paul being evil the whole time, Peter and MJ reunite, and Wells cleans up the mess he made before leaving the series. But I guess that’s too much to ask
How venom war writes better spider man than spider man
I think it’s too late.
Probably 🤔
You're wrong about John Romita Jr's art. He's good. His inker and colourist just arent good fits for him
He’s been great for the Spider-Man books, but I’m gonna be honest. His art hasn’t been amazing on this run
His current inker on this series has worked with him for decades what are u talking about lol it's the same guy who inked him during the 90s Spiderman comics and the Straczynski run
I really didn’t think this issue was that good, am I in the minority? Or am I just so bored of this run that I’m jaded and not treating it fairly?
I think people are rating it more highly precisely because the rest of the run has been such garbage. Suddenly an “ok” comic is a standout. I don’t think you are in a significant minority, people have been split between “this was surprisingly good” and “this is just more meh”.
@@jonathanl-j4i I think that’s how I am with Weissman’s run too. Like the second issue was PEAK. Ultimate is more of a barebones Spider-Man story being closer to the beginning. But with clones on clones and the inclusion of Carlie Cooper and Jane Foster, it was wacky but fun wacky. A run with an everyday issue that felt like SSM issue 2 would be peak. Feels like good ol spider-man. But the rest of the run has been super boring imo
@@wheattoast1971At least Ultimate Spider-Man was better then this garbage. Peter in the ultimate Universe was atleast consistent and had the best clone saga arc meanwhile this Peter litteraly worked for the god damn Green Goblin. Yes Norman Osbornes Sins were gone at that time but Peter would never do such a thing and has been cucked by MJ with Paul for 2 years now It's sad. I hate the Ultimate Universe too and Spider-Man was the best thing out of it but cmon even Ultimate Spider-Man who was very edgy is waaay better then this garbage run as a whole.
@@LuarIbriqi-qf4fh Oh I mean the new Ultimate Universe. They made Eddie Brock/Venom a pedo that is into minors and I fundamentally hate that decision as he’s one of my favorite characters. I refuse to read the run out of principle.
But as a whole yeah there is still more soul to it than this garbage.
But as it stands right now, the new Ultimate Spider-Man is the best of the three.
@@wheattoast1971 Yea the new ultimate Spider-Man is the best I agree.
What if there was an Bryan Singer's X-Men franchise (earth-10005) movie called X-Men:Before the change of timeline or X-Men:Origins of Deadpool mainly focusing on Wade Wilson's condition after X-Men Origins Wolverine in either the first timeline only as alternate timeline or the timeline after X-Men days of future past only after X-Men days of future past movie only as second alternate timeline 😂?
Not lying Peter from ASM 53 has seem like he was before superior Spider-Man
To answer your question, yes it's too little too late
Jeez finally
At this point, it’s far too late to save his run. If he had made course corrections earlier, then the run may have been salvageable. Unfortunately stuff like Dark Web, Gang War, Spider-Goblin part 2 , Chasm, Jackpot, the crap from Dead Languages, and course Paul, really left a bad taste.
How ironic that all they have to criticize wells' career are just the FULL stories WITHOUT IMPORTANCE. or that altered the canon they want based on the life expectancy they want for the character. As if not being the perfect hero with the happy and perfect life you want automatically made the story bad hahaha ridiculous.
It was too late since Wells started this AWFUL run; BEYOND wasn't good in retrospective, taken count what he did to Ben Reilly 🙄
Good riddance to Zeb Wells. No amount of “good writing” can redeem his trash.
Man who's wrong with you??? You say this final arc that is practically filled because it totally moves away from the premise of the fight for New York territory to be just an unimportant revenge between Toms and his daughter is better?? The story was over in 56 and now it's only redundant and yet you say this is better than the previous one? Your definition of solid is bad has to be bad and the hero just stop it? Wtf with you ???
Ive loved this run yall just haters who don’t understand spiderman
So character assasinating Spider-Man and everyone including MJ, nerfing Spider-Man to the point of not beating Vulture but Instead had to use a suit by NORMAN OSBORN, Making Spider-Man evil for like 3 times and not do anything with it and MJ suddenly loves Paul even though she stayed with Peter for decades?? This run was trash. The story itself was trash and Peter never learns a thing on this comic and never grows up on this run and always being dissrespected by every marvel character in this run. It's just pathetic to compare this to the old Spider-Man stories out there who were better written than this garbage.
