I think it's great you're offering such level headed advice on this matter. I have a 2019 RT and my husband has a 2014 RT-both Challengers-and we're completely satisfied with our cars. Scats and Cats are very nice, but that extra money going out for the car payment, the insurance, and the fuel, especially since we drive our vehicles a lot, having those higher trim levels would make zero sense for our particular situation. I get the "oh, you just have the 5.7, you need a Scat or a Cat" comments from some people, but then when I had my GT Challenger, I got the line "oh, you need at least the 5.7 you don't have a real muscle car"...it doesn't matter what you have or what you do, some people always have something to say. I say be happy with what you have and don't go into financial stress just trying to please the masses (and that "m" is silent lol).

I owned a Corvette that my mechanic friend took for a test drive. He has a Camaro he thought was faster. He choose to floor it on the highway at 70MPH. The Corvette with 275 series tires on 9.5" rims broke the tire loose so violently it was sliding sideways down the highway. He asked me how I could drive the car. I told him (1) the car is 500 pounds lighter than his Camaro and (2) I never, ever floor it at under 100. You MUST ease in and out of the throttle like a race car with Hellcats and any super fast car. Heck, a Scat Pack will kill you if you screw up. Don't screw up.

Brad, hope the knee is Ok. I’ve been there. Great follow up video to the previous video. People need to hear this. The advice is dead on. It will help people to avoid a regrettable mistake. This doesn’t apply to people that can afford a Hellcat and who really love the car. Go for it. A Scat Pack gives you an incredible Bang for the Buck as long as you’re not overpaying for the car, especially avoiding markups. You can enjoy this as an everyday driving and avoid the added expenses of a Hellcat. I know that it’s not the same car, but you have to make the best decision when financially commuting to a Hellcat. It can be a very expensive and painful lesson that can really come back to haunt you. I’m not trying to pour cold water on anyone. If you really want a Hellcat, it’s ultimately your money and your decision. Take it from somebody who’s been there and learned the hard way. Thank God I learned my lesson and can at least say that I’ve lived to see another day. Once again, great video, and please keep them coming.

You know I said the same thing on the GM side. I’ll just get a SS because I’ll never need 650hp and now I have a ZL1 and don’t regret it. The moment you hit the gas you’re hit with multiple senses. The exhaust gets loud and as you reach 4-6000 RPM the supercharger whine comes in then the up shift happens and you here the 10 spd transmission make that burst of a sound wave “pop” sound all while visually getting tunnel vision and you come up on everything fast. Don’t regret it period.

Truth be told, just get the R/T with manual transmission. You get the monster muscle-car torque on take off, the joy of rowing thru the gears and hearing that Hemi (best sounding V8 ever, IMO...and that's coming from a life-long GM guy), the much more reasonable car price (I paid $38.5k out-the-door for a brand new one in May), lower insurance premiums, better gas mileage, less chance of getting stolen, less care about putting miles on it, and understated good looks (the Scats and HCs are a bit over-the-top...Scats and HCs are Ginger; R/Ts are Mary Ann😄).

OC, you're right. I went up against a Redeye WB in my Scat WB and I've never seen a car move that fast; I was fearful for the other driver because he got to the light before I did and I said he MUST go through on the yellow because he has no chance of stopping; I was over a 100mph and I got walked easily. It was fun to see; I wanted to see how fast these HC Redeye's were and they're on a different level. I was told by a technician at the dealership that I made the right decision to go for the Scat WB as opposed to the Hellcat WB; he said you don't need all that power.

When I ordered my 23 ScatPack widebody Challenger just to have it canceled 12 days later, I found out a couple days after that, had I bought the ScatPack, my Insurance would have gone up $1000. Really good advice. I’ve owned a few RTs, two SRTs and a hellcat, and I agree with how dangerous the cat can be. No one thinks it will happen to them but once it does, you better hope it ends well. Another good option for people to consider is getting a 2011-2014 SRT8 392. While its factory tune is “only” 470HP, unlike the 2015 and later years you DON”T need a cracked PCM in order to tune it. For a few hundred bucks you can tune to 500+ HP. (Just stick with the manual because the pre-2015 automatics were not great). You can get a decent SRT8 392 in the mid to high twenties, which is far better than a new Scat for nearly $60k.

Excellent video. Solid advice. Most people don't know how to properly drive those cars anyway and to go poor over ANY car doesn't make sense. I OWN my slightly modded 6 Speed Mustang GT. I bought it new in 2018. I paid it off a year and a half later. I'm debt free and want to stay that way. I'm keeping it until it drops, or I do. It's not great on gas but it is better than any Hellcat and Scat Pack. It makes a solid daily driver, and I don't track it. I have access to a Ferrari 488 for track days. BTW, to answer your insurance question: Your insurance went up going from the Charger to the Challenger because Sport Coupes are more expensive to insure than Sport Sedans.

  • @nyplantings2420

Good advice for many. Thank you for discussing the things that run through minds of car guys all the time. There are not many people we can talk to about this that understand what cars mean to us.
As a 55 year old guy I can say this:
I look back to 1970 and said to myself if I was around back then I would have done whatever it took to get a 426 Hemi Mopar back in 1970.
Nowadays situation, a living legend, a high horsepower Mopar musclecar and I went for it!
A scatpack, if adding supercharger with similar parts cost the same or more than a Redeye if it can even be tuned perfectly, cooling etc.
But, a guy can get a new scat pack AND a used vette for the same money as a new Redeye.
The Redeye has upgrades beyond just more power: That chiller! Beefed up fuel system, axles, converter, factory performance parts, several upgrades included.
A guy can drive high rwhp cars year round in the Northeast, just needs Winter tires.

Brad, I've resisted the urge to buy a Challenger since it's re-introduction in 2008, but I've always admired them. I've done tons of research and watched many videos on these cars. The pragmatic side of me says buy the WB Scat. However, the "cant take it with you" side of me says buy the Hellcat. I'm in a financial position to buy either car without regards to financing. It's like you literally read my mind making this video!! I just don't think I could get my money's worth out of the Hellcat, and as a small businessman, I have to justify all expenditures in a rational way. Also, the wife and I could use a good used suv. (I'm a Toyota and Lexus guy) So if I buy the Scat, I'd have enough leftover to buy the suv. Same thought process as you on this. In any case. I'm holding out to for the decline in prices on ANY vehicle I buy ! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your tumble with all of us !!

I'll second the comment about sticking with a Scat Pack. I've had three Challengers so far and started in 2016 with a 5.7/A8 (I actually wanted a pickup, but the wife said I've bought enough of those and to get a car, lol), had that for a couple years and found a nice 2016 Scat Pack / Shaker 6.4/A8. I traded out of the 6.4 to a Hellcat/M6 about two years because I felt that was the end all be all car to have and the wife thought so too. lol We've had fun with it, but the Scat Pack Shaker was/is my favorite out of the bunch. I'm pretty sure the wife thinks that way too. I'm not interested in breaking speed limits, but I like a 0-60 pull once in a while and the Scat was about on par with the HC in that regard. I feel the M6 is a bit slower than the A8 due to the taller gearing, so that may have a bit to do with it. However, you can run 0-60 in first gear with the M6. lol Fun times. I do drive the HC a bit like a grandpa and get around 15mpg driving through town going to/from work with the occasional pull (nothing crazy, just to sprinkle some whine in there). I'd give up the HC and go back to a 6.4/A8 if the right deal came along.

Hey Brad. Almost 59 yo, Love to have a Hellcat, but an R/T w/ a manual or a Scat Pak is more realistic. I lean more toward a manual because of the driver is in more control in more driving situations. I know the auto is faster in a straight line but I prefer all driving environments.

Every video of shows you go to i don't see one guy get out of a car with a girl or girlfriend and the girls that are into it they show up with their girl freinds in the car.... and they all think they will be the next you tube sensation with their $1600 apple iPhone 212.... And it works for a little while then it gets old $1800 car payment $500 a month car insurance
$250 oil change $2400 tire bill and you still have to pay for gas and your phone bill where do these ppl live? You can only juggle that for so long.
It's the festival of greed and vanity and it's coming to a screeching halt... with great credit where i am intrest rates are 12%+ for auto loans it's insanity at its finest keep up the great vids Brad 👍 and um watch your step 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I would like a new Hellcat instead of a used one cause most of these are not driven carefully or even properly, you can find low mileage used ones with some very worn out parts. About the Scat Pack, would you recommend a newer Scat Pack over a 2014 SRT392?

Back when I had my 2014 Charger RT I really thought I wanted a Hellcat. The RT was a fun car to drive (had the pre-2015 level 3 scat pack) and all, but always left me wanting a little more oomph. My buddy upgraded from his Challenger 392 to a Challenger Hellcat, and I was lusting for one even more. Then I drove it a few times and decided I had no need for that much power on the street. I now have a 2020 Charger scat back with about every upgrade Dodge offers (not a wide body though), and frankly I don't need the HP/TQ this thing has either. I would probably have been fine getting another RT. I mostly drive my Scatpack in eco mode because the rear end is too squirly with the stock 245s on it, sliding out from under it even on bone-dry pavement. I do plan on upgrading to 275 all-season tires (it's my daily), so maybe that will make the extra power more useable on dry roads. 🤷‍♂️
My buddy with the Hellcat eventually got rid of it after having several traction loss incident, the last one leaving him spun-out on the far side of a grassy median facing on-coming traffic a few feet away. This is a guy who has raced on and off the track for years, so he has driving skills. He was just getting on the highway in the rain, and according to him he didn't do anything silly, was just getting into his lane and lost traction for a second. Scared the $#!+ out of him, to the point where he sold it and went back to an AWD tuner car.

I am currently doing durability testing for the Demon 170 at work, I drive 400 miles per day on 50/50 fuel which gets 952 HP that way the milage sucks but is the most fun vehicle I have ever driven. So far 24k miles I have put on it. If I could afford it even with my stalantis discout I definitely would. I had to sign a confidentiality agreement and put tape over my phones cameras 😂😂

So you work for the company? Can you clarify something? Is the production of these cars continuing till end of year and going to arrive on dealer lots for sale OR is just pre orders, the final special edition and demons only being done at this point? I've called a few dealers and they basically say the same thing..that there not going to be getting more in to just sit on lots waiting for a sale.
I'm not sure if this is a tactic there saying in order to get me to settle or take what they my have. I missed out on pre ordering

I have a 22 Hellcat and I do miss my 19 Scat Pack wish I could afford to have both but I do have a great situation where my daily is a company vehicle with gas paid for. I would recommend a Scat Pack to anyone even though I do love my Hellcat and got a great rate on it when I bought it last year. It all comes down to each person’s financial situation and being smart about purchases.

Quite a lot of Scat Packs on the market now, prices all over the map, for the wide body which you want. 60-75k seems to be the range. Looking here for a Swinger package in F8, MSRP 65k, discounts seem to be out there. Hellcats are for the rich boys, fun but crazy expensive.
