The old guy laughing while crying "oh no" is such a complex reaction; it's a mix of disassociation and grief. Everyone else laughs because they are so broken they use humor as a cooping mechanism. Which Is the underlying message of the song; children forced to normalize the traumatic loss of a father and just expecting them to move past it.

i more so perceived it as people only started to enjoy it at all when he provoked someone. before this man smiles we watch gambino take another mans cigarette from him and blow smoke in his face. he started pushing someone around, and got a reaction. this is just furthered by not only provoking him, but just straight up killing him. even worse by his OWN hands. then everyone starts to love it. push someone until they die trying to pick up for themselves. beat down on someone and make them kill themselves unintentionally. he dodged all blame and got the fame

I took it as anticipation expecting the performers to get shot any minute because every move was slightly off beat and over the top enough to be tonally dissonant for the setting, like they're being popy in the wrong place so everyone is wondering who's gonna do it to em. The fact that the singer was the one to pop the guy is hilarious cause they were expecting goofy ahh homeboy with the minstrel act to get shot but subverted expectations and he just rolled with it.
Whats interesting about before he roles with it is his posture. Even though it was an accident his posture is firm forward anxious expecting an altercation as opposed as what would be the expected timid anxious response. Form there even his moves are looser, like with that action the crowd can now allow themselves to be pulled into the show

Between his music, acting, and creative “art” through music videos or shows like Atlanta, if you consider that kind of work art, there’s very few individuals like him. Yet what controls hip hop conversations on social media and mainstream media are one trick ponies (not a bad thing btw) like Yeat, Drake, Travis Scott, Megan The Stallion etc. If talent is actually appreciated, we’d be seeing his name a lot more. I feel like I’ve been listening to music for a thousand years. Every five or ten years everyone goes mad saying someone is an absolute genius who has managed by chance to put their finger on the zeitgeist of their moment. This guys finger is never on his moment, it spans a universality that has to mean something to everyone who listens and ought to compel them to be better or answer should they feel they can’t. Imagine if he had been painting chapel ceilings in the renaissance! They’d have hidden shapes of anatomical discoveries amongst subversive images that contradict the orthodoxy of the person that commissioned the painting. Genuine genius holds a mirror to us (the zeitgeist touchers) while also showing us a route from the past to a more reasonable future. That’s why there are so few geniuses as most gifted people can’t do both. I hate agreeing with people and I almost exclusively like punk music but people need to watch this person and listen to his words.
