  • Got a code for your Dodge Ram turbo actuator? In this video, we're answering Jeff's question about his 2014 Ram 3500 with a Cummins 6.7L engine. We'll help you figure out whether the problem lies with the turbo or the actuator.
    What You Will Learn:
How to check if your actuator is working properly
How to determine if your turbo is the issue
What to look for with carbon buildup and vane damage
    Step-by-Step Guide/Tutorial:
Check the Actuator First: Start by connecting your truck to a diagnostic tool. You can run a full cycle and recalibrate the actuator to make sure it's functioning properly. If it fails the calibration, it's likely the actuator causing the issue.
Inspect the Turbo: The turbo arm should move freely without much resistance. If you feel any sticking or dragging, check for carbon buildup on the vane pack and shroud.
Look for Carbon Buildup: Excessive carbon from EGR systems, failed injectors, or EGR cooler leaks can clog the turbo. Sometimes, it’s as simple as removing the exhaust housing and cleaning out the carbon.
Check for Vane Damage: If carbon buildup or debris has bent the vanes inside the turbo, that can cause sticking, leading to turbo failure.
    Key Benefits:
Save on Repairs: Diagnosing the issue correctly can prevent unnecessary part replacements.
Improved Performance: A clean and properly functioning turbo and actuator will ensure your engine runs smoothly.
Prevent Further Damage: Identifying carbon buildup early can save your turbo from major damage down the road.

Oh my gosh I found this video so useful I've been having turbo issues with the P003A actuator code I just had to replace my EGR cooler and everything started with a coolant leak. As soon as my check engine light comes on I push 8 lb of boost no more when it goes off I'm pushing full boost, My exhaust brake will always work. Sounds like my turbos dirty.

Yes, a coolant leak can cause your turbo to be "dirty" but even worse, it can destroy the bearings in the turbo.

Got the p2262 code on my 2007.5 6.7 cummins. Runs perfect, seem to be no issues while driving. What do y’all think I should do?

It may need an ECM calibration update, if you're having no driving issues. Start there first.

What do you recommend to clean the turbo for the VGT? My actuator is bad and I am not able to move the vanes.

There are some cleaners available in stores or online for your VGT, but we recommend looking deeper into the reason why you're getting excessive carbon into your VGT. If you can't move the sector gear without the actuator, then your vanes are likely damaged and a new actuator won't work.

I have a 2009 Cummins and it just threw a p2262 code. What should I do?

Have your engine/turbo inspected. There is a very good chance the turbo and/or actuator are bad.

Same here man. 2007.5 6.7 with a p2262 and it says Mechanical on my minimaxx tuner. Did you figure it out? Please let me know

I have a 2014 cummins and it threw a POOAF code truck is fully deleted with a Efi live tune and 5” straight pipe I read up and it said that it should just be the actuator or faulty wiring what should I do?

I don't see that code in Cummins... if its an actuator code check wiring and check to see if you get a change of state on the code when plugged in and unplugged. then you may be down to the actuator.... But make sure a stuck sector gear didn't take out the actuator
