    This video is about 2014 Ram Turbo Actuator Replacement- 6.7 Cummins. I remove the old actuator due to a U010C Lost Communication With Turbocharger / Supercharger Control Module A. The dealer told me I needed to replace the entire turbo. I was getting good exhaust brake function and good turbo boost so I was not convinced that the turbo was actually bad. I decided to purchase a turbo actuator first and then remove it and check my turbo charger to see if I needed to send it in for repair. In this video I remove the turbo actuator and check the actuator arm for functionality in full travel rate. The turbo charger actuator arm moves super easy line to line. Once I check this I determine that the actuator is the only fault for the U010C code. So with my new genuine holset actuator part number 5579127H I install it on the turbo. Before you begin you will need to drain the coolant which I did. Remove the old actuator prep the new actuator with grease. Plug in the new actuator only and leave it sitting on the shock mount. With the scan tool of your choice pre-align the actuator. The scan tool I used was alpha OBD. Once you pre-aligned the actuator you can then install the actuator on the turbo and finish the calibration process once this is complete go ahead and torque your bolts down in a crisscross pattern and refill your coolant.

    For those watching this now, City Diesel in Decatur AL makes an actuator that is self-calibrating. No need for dealer visit to calibrate.

    The U010C - VGT Actuator Driver Circuit - Abnormal update rate can also be caused by a bad harness. If your replacement actuator fails again after some time you may need to replace the harness.

      @@krisf5247 it’s hard to say . One truck I looked at that a Buddy owns had the exhaust brake not working and it ended up some how being turned off in the computer some how, it was a 2007. My truck never stopped working but I was getting the lost communication code. If you have quite a few miles on it its possible that it needs replaced but your truck being a 13 should be throwing a code I would think. I’d do some wire checking first an if you have a scan tool check for pending code before you buy a new one the are pretty expensive now.

    Did you loose boost in your truck when the actuator went out?

    • @4MRanch
      @4MRanch  3 года назад

      No I did not. That’s why I wasn’t sure what was going on until I took off the actuator and found that the motor in it was weak.

    • @caseyriggs2633
      @caseyriggs2633 3 года назад +1

      I have a 2008 6.7 Cummins I was towing my boat recently and noticed loss of boost and the truck was rolling coal on a stock pickup. It’s not the actuator then, when I go to go step on it a little bit it does make a squealing noise. It could be turbo is going bad or a bad gasket in the egr valve.

    The video is very well explained for calibration, but the problem with the Holset VGT is that it is not resistant, which breaks down many 6.7 Cummins engine owners.
    It's a real disease this VGT.
    Dodge dealers take us for fools by charging four digits close to five digits for a turbo set!!!!!, so we all place orders through the secondary market that are more efficient (not the holset brand) on the responsiveness of the turbo and the torque of the electric motor of the VGT that is twice the VGT Holset, like the one that is sold by Geno's Garage which also makes a control of the turbo movement at each turn of the key, which the Holset doesn't do.
    My question is: holset goes this decided when to correct this problem? especially at the price where we pay our trucks!!!
    it is not normal to drive with the engine brake continuously to obtain a reprieve of the vgt.
    I have 5 months of winter, and on snow or ice you don't ride with the engine brake running at the risk of finding yourself in the field, or just killing someone.
