The cool thing is that the Ram will still be running 20 years from now. No wonder 30 year old Dodge Rams are worth $30k these days.
Thanks for that info, I almost sold my 97, 12v for 16k last week.

Considering price and reliability the Cummins wins hand down
Can't argue with price but reliability is debatable.
The cummins is a million mile motor.
It's amazing that the Cybertruck is only a couple hundred pounds heavier than this single cab, classic Dodge Ram. People like to make fun because it's outside the box, but Tesla has made an exceptional truck.
Early days, in 5 years Cybertruck will be a much better product. First generation Model 3's and Y's were brutal, now they are top selling cars.

It went exactly how expected. Both on dirt, neither go anywhere, just dig holes. Even on pavement it comes down to traction, wich truck has the stickier tires or most weight. Doesn't matter if one has 300hp and the other vehicle has a 1,000hp. As long as both vehicles have enough power to spin the wheels it will always come down to traction/weight.

And that is completely wrong. I've owned a Tundra, a 2500 Denali, and a F350 limited. I love my cybertruck.

I really like the Cybertruck. But I agree. The old trucks are great. They look much better than the new legacy trucks and they are really practical.
But times change. New trucks are much safer, pollute a lot less (noise and exhaust), much more comfortable and have more functionality. Fossil fuels are on their way out and software is becoming all important.
I would drive an old truck for weekends and use an EV for daily stuff.
Now I'm going to listen to the music of that diesel engine again.
One thing certain is that they are very inexpensive to own. I have an old 2nd gen Dodge Ram myself and even with repairs it costs a fraction of making payments with interest on a depreciating asset.

I sold a 1993 Dodge Ram 3500 manual transmission with the low 4.11 option rear end brand new. I had to do a dealer trade to pick up the Dodge in Batesville Indiana. The engineer who ordered the truck for towing race cars checked out all the right boxes. Sounded and performed beyond belief with that Cummins engine.

It’s pulled diesels up the Rocky Mountains, it’s pulled a loaded Peterbuilt 10 miles in the Smokey mountains. I have a 99 24v Cummins now too, that 360 is surprisingly Cummins like in the way it pulls. Chrysler is usually crap, but my Dodge has amazed me for 22 years straight. Just like saddling up and riding your prized horse.
My money goes on the Ram, it will pull a 10 ton trailer all day long, and the power unit will last for 300,000 miles easily. It's not possible to walk to a filling station and get enough electricity to get you there so you can fill up. It costs about $1,000 to have a charging station wired to the breaker panel in your house, but if you can spend $100,000 on the vehicle, I guess it doesn't matter, but the battery will need to be replaced in 10 years for the price of a very nice used gas powered vehicle.

The Dodge truck was built with a few basic metals, and is still running great 30 years later.

For about the same price you can get a nicely equipped Ram 3500 Dually that will drag along about three times as much weight, and get more range doing it (the full towing weight of ~37,000lbs. as I think TFL did a fully load fuel mileage to the tune of 8ish MPG), refuels in minutes has the same creature comforts ...the new 6.7L is fairly quiet ...and looks far and away better inside and out than the Cybertruck.

I'm a hard core diesel guy, rn I have a Silverado 3500, Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel, and a VW Sportwagen TDI manual, but I have to admit some of the tech in the Cybertruck is going to be a game changer. In particular the 48 volt system. It's amazing that with everything stuffed into modern cars that everyone else is still using 12 volts.
Watching the Cybertruck steering teardown video reminded me I needed to spray some peppermint spray under my hood to keep critters out. 48 volts means smaller wires that would arc easier wouldn't it?
12v is inherently safer. Yes you gain some efficiency and can have thinner wires but it's marginal and might gain you a mile of range at best.
How much money do you have ?
Man truck vs yuppie kid's toy, got it!
Everything involving the CyberTruck is sO Anti-Climatic & usually rather disappointing. I still think it's cool. I also still think the 2ndGen Ram is the best looking Pickup Trucks ever made. CyberTruck looks like my new Fridge fell over & I leaned some old 33's on it. /Shrug
....and this is why I will never ever get rid of my 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD. I can work on anything in that truck and not be tethered to a Stealership, ever. Mine has a mild "tune" 350 HP and 700+ FT LBS of torque. Parts are dirt cheap. I bought it used 7 years ago for $3500.00
This means nothing. What counts is how much money will be spent on keeping the running for 300,000 miles and twenty years. Also what about towing a camper on a 3000 mile trip? Ugly!
That 2nd gen would still beat that cyber truck for both reliability and towing for sure
Cyber truck can’t tow a trailer more than 80 miles before the battery dies. The Cummins engine will last a million miles with very low maintenance cost. You will never get a million miles out of an electric vehicle with out replacing the battery every 5-10 years for thousands of dollars. The Cummins engine will run until the dodge rust away to dust. Then you can take it out and put it in the cyber truck and run it.
Cherry picking time.
Id rather spend $10k on a truck and Maintain it over spending $100k on an ugly truck with no capability.
Overall, electric can be cheaper and easier to maintain. China is making cheap and capable electric cars, it can be done
Great video as always guys. As much as I think that the Cybertruck is cool, Cummins is the absolute king in my opinion. There ain't nothing better than the sound of that twelve valve.
As a 98 Ram 2500 V10 owner, I'd take the Dodge all day
Damn 100k for a pick up truck that can’t do anything a truck should be is quite a drawback.
Plot twist. The Tug of War is 400 miles away and you only have 8 hours to drive there or you lose.
I'll give that the CT is not great for towing or for offroadiing.
But the 400 miles in 8hrs is easily done.
Let's say real world it gets 260 miles @75mph, instead of the 320 claimed. That's still most of the trip in one go. then stop for 30 mins to charge to 80% and finish the trip in under 6 hours.
@Konski82 You both would still lose with your cyber truck. I have a 9612 valve. I get 21 mph mixed driving. 24-25 long trips on a 35 gallon tank, I can make the trip in one shot.

Yes im a tesla/EV fan, but i try to stay realistic. If you tend to do long road trips and only stop as minimum as possible (cannon ball run style) then EVs are not for you.
My response was as to weather or not the Cybertruck could travel that far in 8 hrs, which it can.
@@martinbowyer7906probably won’t be a 30 minute charge because of just some superchargers not putting up to their maximum output + the battery of the cybertruck is much larger than the other models. But regardless even if it takes like 80 minutes you’ll make the aforementioned trip in under 8 hours

I love the trash talking during the video it makes it feel like your with your boys watching them test their toys against each other i love it 😂😂
The dodge gets another few inches of articulation from the chassis flex! Look at that bed twist from the cab! Amazing.
Even with the technology of the stainless steel thing, I'm still picking the Ram any day between those 2. No contest.
Yeah, the diesel is the old-school sound of "big-grunt POWER, AHH!" but modernly, more _silence_ will be the NEW-school sound of even MORE power, because eventually we'll learn to associate the low-volume hum with that silent, understated magnetic OOMPH! But I really love the sound of manually shifted trans. engines; it's gonna take a long time for me to let that go as we lose them more than we already have.
Not quite yet, but we are getting there. Batteries need a lot of innovation though
@@mustacheo3575: We're already there. Electric motors _already_ make more torque per unit of size than engines, regardless of improving battery tech beyond the advancements that they've already had.
I had the same dodge truck, I was getting 20mpg, modern diesels suck with all then gizmos and emissions. Those dodge trucks rust quick if driven in salt. Mine was Swiss cheese after 4-5 years, don’t drive that nice truck in salt
haha I never drive my '96 Ram in salt, I am on paved or dirt roads
