Middle-earth: Shadow of War Review

- Middle Earth Shadow of War has more abilities, more weapons, and more Orcs, than its predecessor, but the sheer volume of content ends up feeling like pointless padding in an otherwise epic adventure.

"text heavy menus" proceeds to ahow us a video of the skill tree mainly comprised of icons
It was a bad review, his points were mostly dumb.
You have to put the mouse cursor on all of them in order to know what they do, because these days menus apparently need to be almost colorless in order to look modern. Intuitive design is not very common these days.
Text heavy menu's....? Really? It's like 2 sentences of dialogue tops for a skill. And it's an action rpg? Seriously???
Redcoat96 and menu's......
they complained about MENU'S ..........in a VIDEOO GAME.......and other BULLSHIT COMPLAINTS just to completely AVOID talking about THE EXTREMELY CONTROVERSAL RPG MICROTRANSACTIONS!!!! They didn't even mention them :/!
They don't matter, even though it's not cosmetic there isn't any pvp for it to matter and from what I've seen and heard you get enough in game currency anyway. If a person wants to spend money on that then it's their choice or mistake whichever. It's such a dead horse at this point it doesn't matter. It's singleplayer content. They probs didn't mention them because they are that irrelevant to the game as a whole
"TOO MANY ICONS IN THE MAP" 😭😭😭
STUPID COMPLAINTS... you can tell by his gameplay that the camera complaints were because of his lack of skills targeting correctly.. smh...
I see right through you He has clearly never played and Assassins Creed game where every inch of the map has an icon on it. XD
Yeah, but how many skills are there that you have to cross-compare before you make one decision on which one to acquire? It's no longer 2 sentences then, but dozens (which aren't even on the screen at the same time to make comparison easy) every time you consider a single skill upgrade (because, no one memorises skills effects of skills they haven't acquired/broken in when it's just a distanced text description).
I hate when people say "it should have at least got a __" and yet they haven't even played the game, it's sooo annoying.
Ryan Campbell ikr!
It should have at most got a 6. My psychic instincts have spoken.
they just compare other reviews. the meta says 86 and Gamespot seems to be very picky at some topics for example skill menu. "no story characters that tell you over and over why it is good what you do" come on. what is this bullshit review.
My friend, those who have played it know how good it is.
Too many orcs 7/10. Gamespot is the new IGN
matttnathan lmfaoooo
IGN give this game 9 so
gamespot will give some game 10 when you pay then for it
I think the point of this game is Orc slaughter sim...thats why I play. I wont need the trash lootboxes, I played the 1st game for 20 hours without touching quests after they let me loose in the world... I think that the last section will be just dandy imo.
"new" lmao!
"The skill tree was too dense and spread out." What do you even mean?
It means that they think its too complex
Yeah, it's like saying it's so white and black. How can a "too" dense be so spread out?
Guess I'll just wait for the real review from ACG!!!
ACG, TB, Jim Sterling are the people I go to for reviews. I would have included Angry Joe but he's gone downhill recently.
Simmo270 I'll have to check out those two channels thanks for the heads up.
Simmo270 I don't hate Joe but yeah I agree.
ACG is by far the most accurate. Jim is good, but sometimes a little bit too negative in his reviews and forgets to have fun.
Real talk. ACG IS BEASTLY when it comes to reviews
Have you even played the game or just watched someone play
They gave Shadow of Mordor a 8 and it won GOTY lol
This review is basically you saying it's a good game but you also saying there is to much to do. Really? That's a negative thing now? Games like Destiny got trashed for not having enough to do and now when the opposite happens you complain about it as well? Text heavy menu? 2-3 lines per skill is text heavy nowadays? I'm sorry but this seems like someone who had to rush the entire game due to a deadline and was frustrated he couldn't do it faster.
sneakmasher Yeh rushed it to get his review out. Not a good review at all.
There's a difference between having a lot to do(Skyrim) and having too much to do. (insert assassin creed game) some games have too much pointless things to do, boring, repetitive even. Think that's what he meant here. The things you can do are a but boring and repetitive maybe
C_Cole 96 You don’t HAVE to do anything in this game. How is there Too much to do? They just GIVE you something to do.
Skyrim in itself is a pretty empty game with lots of repetitive radiant quests, boring drgon fights once you pass level 30 and once you go above 40 nothing can even pose a challenge except for the Ebony Warrior.
I love the game but let's be honest, one of the main reasons it's even alive today is mainly due to the active mod community. And no Assassin's creed game has alot to do, what they do have (or had) was replayability.
that does make sense though it can be a good game with too much to do
mmmmm is it normal to spoil a game's ending like this in a review?
Looks like Warner paid IGN but not Gamespot.
I watched the IGN review and heard him criticise heavily then he was like 9/10 left me like DA FUQ ?
Juan Amaya Or this reviewer is in the minority. Shadow of War currently has an 86 on metacritic and Gamespot has given it the lowest score thus far.
Juan Amaya Sure like one of the greatest games of this year needs to pay anybody for a good review. You act like anyone trust these bias game media outlets to these days.
Juan Amaya What's funny about your comment is when you like a score they're not paid but when you don't like a score somehow they're paid. With no evidence to backup anything you're saying how mighty convenient To your own narrative your opinions are🤔
KeepitReal2772 I love your "they don't need to pay anyone" when Warner actually did pay for good SoM reviews, that's what my original comment is about. And I loved SoM and was looking forward to this until they announced microtransactions pal.
"sexy shelob" i can hear Tolkien rolling in his grave from here
said nothing about micro transaction
Futurescped maybe they really don't matter, we'll see
maaybe WB is fulling their site with ads and they want the money to keep flowing
IGN said you don’t have to buy them
Futurescped yeah you dont have to buy them i still have the older version on pc btw
Same thing GameSpot did with Batman Arkham Knight 7/10 ....but after playing myself I enjoyed it more than any previous arkham game.
So people need to calm down a bit.
shit now im worried about buying this game
PSN gave out this game for free last month, if I remember correctly. I’m not a Lord of the Ring fan nor do I know the lore. But I decided to give this game a shot. First off, I was very impressed on the combat set up, story, and the amount of activities you can do. This game deserves high praises
Are you joking "it's a chore to read the skills when levelling up" I'm pretty hard on this game because of the micro transactions but this review is absurd.
Atleast its not ea where you really need to spend money :/
7/10 To much content....?
NewsiesMario right? His reasons for not liking the game like "too much to do" and "you gain new orcs and gear too fast" these problems can be solved by not rushing through the game and just savoring it
ikr :D
AyZeD he had to rush through the game to review it
AyZeD exactly. My personal favorite complaint was that their were to many abilities and it made him have to read to much. Haha
Ever heard of a thing called: Repetition?
This game was better than shadow of mordor in every way.
This game is a straight 10/10 in my opinion. Right up there with Uncharted, Half life and others.
Nonsense, your lack of taste and discernment is astounding.
Consistency is entirely lacking in 'game journalism'. MGSV had a terrible last chapter to unlock the true ending as well - yet no review mentioned it. The impression I have from the last section in SoW is that it is an end-game - close to an infinite number of fortress assaults and defenses to play till your heart's content. The additional story bits that unlock is a bonus - which is worth critiquing if it's bad, like probably the rest of the game's story. However the complaint that too much is happening on-screen during fort assaults seems to be exactly what sets SoW apart from the AC series, the fact that open-combat with 0 preparation will probably be chaotic and nearly impossible - hence, the fact that you have the opportunity and incentive to kill Overlords and place spies inside the fortresses, prior to the assaults. I don't disagree with review scores, especially if I haven't played something yet and also cause I believe that it's not nearly as important as the actual 'content' of the review.
yes yes and yes.... MGSV is consistently rated as "the greatest" and a "masterpiece" when it was far from it... extraordinarily repetitive and a last chapter that felt useless as a whole.. what I will say is that MGSV has for me.. the greatest beginning in Gaming..... the way the entire game starts in the hospital and that whole sequence was beyond amazing for me... but the game wasnt perfect.. it was unfinished. clearly....
Loveless
Wasn't Kojima's fault that it was unfinished.
Almost everyone calls out the second half of MGS5 as complete trash.
And there's not a lot of consistency because you have a varying group of people reviewing content with different preferences. You won't get any cohesion because outside of a check list telling you verbatim about the features a game has, a review is subjective.
7 really? Too many things to do, so a 7? Out of your mind?
Thumbs up for properly spelling "too"
Yes, because in the end there is what seems like an unlimited amount of assaults on your fortresses.
Agreed!
so you like wasting time on boring grind?
its called quality over quantity you fucking dumn ass
One of the worst reviews on Gamespot History...
Says the guy who clearly hasn't played it.
TheDuckClock I’ve played it for a week now and I agree this is one of the worst reviews by Gamespot
Gamespot doesn’t know anything I am on level 60 and still love to play it specially the fort wars
"too much content"
Is this why call of duty games keep getting 9s and over? Cause they lack in it?
And if too much consent was a issue then how did witcher 3 get a 10 you people make no sense
CGCentral HD No, *YOU* make no sense... It depends on the quality of the content.
Witcher 3 got a 10 because the content had some thought put into it; it wasn't filler.
Alexander Trenfield filler? What the fuck are you talking about? Have you seen the game or are you just jumping on the hate bandwagon?
lazlo686 I'd imagine he's referring to the repetitive filler mentioned in almost every review of the game?
Tiernan Devine
lazlo686
Yes. Also I 100% the last game and most of that was filler. If the reviews are to be beleived, SoW is more of the same, in other words, more filler.
When you don't agree with someone's opinion, it's better to explain why instead of dismissing it as a 'bandwagon'. Doing that suggests you don't have a proper argument
Both the map and the skills menu are very easy to understand. I'm honestly a little bit concerned about the reviewer if they are overwhelming for him.
This game looks repetitive
Alex Lester Wow.....your mum jokes.....Never heard that before
GOTY!, if you guy's have it you all gonna understand that game is Amazing.
Sub Zero it is amazing and everyone complaining about the game haven't even bought it yet and their complaining because of micro transactions
Sub Zero it's good, but nowhere close to GOTY, I'm right at the end and it's a 7 for me, you forget RE7, Nioh, Horizon, Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Breath of the Wild, Mario Oddysee all came out this year just to name a handful that are way better games (my opinion of course)
I’m on act two, and I love the way you can wage big wars against strongholds. My favourite game of this year.
thegamewin100 I agree. While I can understand why people don't like the microtransactions, I totally disagree when people act like they completely ruin the game. I have 40+ hours in this game and I'm still nowhere near completing all its content, and I haven't even contemplated going online and attacking another player's fortresses yet. So far the microtransactions have been a total non-issue for me. I think that unless you're only playing online content against another player (which is a small fraction of the game), the microtransactions are largely a non-factor - just don't buy them. The game is overall fantastic and it's a shame so many people are not buying it. It's easily an 8.5/10 IMO
You are right man, this game is so addicting...
How is this worse than Shadow of Mordor?
Because Mordor didn't have microtransactions.
The reviewer didn't mention anything about microtransactions, he gave a relatively low score because its big, go figure.
lunator100hd Gamespot was paid to not mention microtransactions!!!
its not worse. whatever you thought of the first will be exponentially increased here whether you loved or hated it.
Alex Lester ign mentioned them. They are utterly useless and only serve to skip gameplay to get the orcs. Otherwise all the lootbox orcs are attainable in game
They always mess up with the reviews. They gave Shadow of Mordor 8 & it won the GOTY....lol...
iBlaster lmfaooooo my point exactly!!!
Gamespot reviews have been garbage for years now funny though coz around pre 2012 I thought they were better
These comments don't make sense, 5 is average, below 5 is below average and above 5 is pretty good, 7 means it's quite good, 8 means it's really good, 9 is amazing and 10 is a perfect score I guess, imo no game can ever get a 10/10 score unless it's opinion that the game is perfect, but no game is perfect
iBlaster it did not. There is somethig called ea's dragon age
So what if they chose the first game as GOTY,that doesn't mean its a 10 game, the games are picked because of the fun you have not because of the score,no game is a 10,today's games are not even an 8.And grinding in a game its not fun,and every time when you're in the middle of a fight and a captain appears and starts talkin and talking and he never stops its getting funcking annoying. This game for me was boring as hell.
"Give me less" - summary of review
I want less of everything said nobody who wants they're moneys worth. This review was horrible. Too many orcs...Too many skills!. You mean you have to actually think and read things. lol, the game has too much content. Just take the review and think of the opposite of everything this guy says.
so there is more shit in every aspect of the game except where it counts? haha, who would've thought.
THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY ORKS, SKILLS AND THINGS TO DO!!!.....gtfo gamespot
For those asking why too much content is seen as a bad thing in this game, I think Gamespot did not choose the best set of words to describe it: what I feel they meant was that most of the content is repetitive and overall bland ( something that games like Assassin´s Creed always have struggled with); in games like The Witcher, which is an absolutely massive game, you have lots of side missions with a story connected to them, they are all different, so they are not boring, they end up being one of the most positive points about the game! Unfortunately, despite being set in the fucking Lord of the Rings universe, GameSpot and other reviewers are criticising the repetitiveness of this game, which is a shame. Still, the original still had repetitive side missions, but the gameplay got me engaged, so if they say the gameplay got a lot more varied in this one and still the side quests remain bland, then this game must have simply too much content.
I am not defending GameSpot though, not knowing how to express yourself as a critic is unfortunetaly a major flaw in most of these big reviewer companies. If you want a proper review of this game,I suggest you wait for Jim Sterling, ACG or AngryJoe.
Or Easy Allies, best in the biz. I highly support the mention of ACG though (haven't watched a whole lot reviews from Jim Sterling which impressed me or haven't watched a lot of Angry Joe in general), among the best of 'em.
In addition to the more story-based games that i enjoy playing, like Life Is Strange, Yakuza-series etc., i really appreciate some games that i can use as time-sinks while listening to podcasts/news whenever they're not spilling dialogue or story. GTA V, Horizon Zero Dawn, Nier Automata. Persona 5 and others are great for this.
Because my months are mostly just waiting to meet one doctor or another between some surgeries, i like games that i can spend a bunch of hours in.
Also, I've found that ACG's reviews fit my taste in games quite well and are much more consistent and detailed than ones from GS or IGN...
Holy shit your wrote an entire paper on this what the fuck bro no one cares lol
"Holy shit your wrote an entire paper on this what the fuck bro no one cares lol"
Some people care, some don't...
Even you cared enough to comment on it.
Not everything in the world needs to fit in tweet.
Fabio Silva. who's ACG? I'm subbed to Jim and Joe so was jw who the other person was!
Watched this review for funsies after 100 hours into the game and wow, these “critiques” are lame as hell. Like seriously, you can’t handle opening up a menu and swapping abilities? Is your attention span .000009 seconds? Long skill bios? The fuck? Where? Disappointing ending? Bruh, it’s a crushing ending. The only thing I can respect in this review is for it not bringing up the microtransactions because it’s so overdone. I realize it was a big deal when it came out though and understand the situation.
WTF no mention of microtransactions? They need to be talked about in every game that has them. How do they affect the game?
No, there's been enough talking about that dipshit.
They don't, there is your answer.
Thats what happen when Monolity doesn`t bribe GameSpot... Bad Reviews
This game is honestly my game of the year. No matter what you say. I got some hands on experience and watched all the streams. It's legit is what I really expected from the sequel
So this game is compared to Batman Arkham city which God game of the year, but shadows of war is not good because it is compared to Batman?People asked for more Orc importance, and they got it. People asked for a better Saron fight, and they got it.
Hmm to much content?
And some people like to dish out their skill loadout. I would rather have to many options than not enough..
7 seems not that fair as it's a rpg.
I think what they're saying is quality over quantity.
*too
grinding its not fun, cause the game is bigger doesn't mean its better or you can have fun with it
it's not an rpg, it's action rpg, big difference.
I don't like in this games and AC games that their steel armor on the chest moves like it was regular clothes. Seen only the games on RUclips, not playing myself.
'' IGN give 9...Gamestop give 7...Guess i' ll wait Angry Joe and ACG review'':)))
Seems cool in the beginning but will become a drag really fast. Looking at different vids, I see a lot of animations and scenes come back. Rince and repeat at high level. You can speed everything up with micro transactions ... nicely done there ... not.
since when too much content is a negative thing
he means that the content is largely uninteresting and just repetitive
gamespot logics :D
Skit Son I told everyone that this game would be extremely repetitive, and no one actually believed me
Because it's all boring nonsense that seems to be in every open world game.
Gee idk 🤔case in point, The Witcher 3. That game is way too big it's absolutely ridiculous and overwhelming. I don't want to spend 200-300 hours in one game nor do I have the time.
i dont see why people make such a big deal about the micro-transactions u can easily play through everything without having 2 grind and legendary orcs arent as rare as u would think u can randomly take over some orcs attack the fortress and if your captains die just take the enemies captains i can see why people hate them im not defending the micro-transactions just saying everything including late game without them without any grinding plus even if you do find u need 2 grind its an rpg your supposed 2 grind
Shadow of micro transactions
Frying Enigmas lmfaooo!!!!
Frying Enigmas fuck off
No mention of the loot box bull shit? Was that part of the deal WB giving you an early review copy?
The review was well made and had fair points, don't dislike just because the game didn't get what you wanted, 7-7.5 seems the concensus so far
Michael Sutherland
"too much content"
"too much text"
They're "fair" points right?
CGCentral HD not once did he say too much content, he said too much repetitive content which is a valid point, you might wanna get that fanboy selective hearing sorted out dude.
I was so hyped for this game but the more.ive seen the less hype I've had for it.
Michael Sutherland that is because you are killing the hype because the element of surprise will be gone
Michael Sutherland this is just gamespots opinion of the game.
Zephalion no it's because they kept shoving 6 hour long streams down my throat, I started avoiding video of it but it still killed my hype
This game is loads better than shadow of Mordor this guy is bugging lmao
oh wow, i'd completely forgotten about this game due to the controversy surrounding micro-transactions. even without mentioning micro-transactions this review was quite critical so i'll skip it anyway.
WB games must be crying because you won't buy their new release game
cwying. cwying. cwying. cwyyyyiiiiyyyiiiiing.
XxDEDEYExX so far every reviews I seen are saying story is very disappointing and I'm a story guy so this is a skip for me
You base your purchases on reviews ? Lol ok.
Bye then
The original was boring as shit, this one looks even worse. Make another mad max game instead.
"the ending is disappointing" what ever the fk you mean that ending gave me chills
Boring game
Madao how?
How many loot boxes did you get paid to make this review?
Rekalty too many
Rekalty Since they gave it a 7, apparently not enough...
Rekalty lmfaoooooo
fr they didn't even MENTION THEM!!!! And they complained about MENU'S......... in a FUCKING VIDEO GAME......just to avoid the EXTREMELY CONTROVERSAL RPG MICROTRANSACTIONS forged BY SAURON HIMSELF!!!!!
IGN gave it 9.Just wondering works of these big review companies.
Is it just when a reviewer doesn't agree with your opinion on the game (because you dont like micro transactions), that the reviewer must be getting paid? Seriously, get over your gripe with the game and let reviewers enjoy it with their own opinion without them being accused of being paid. Not everyone agrees with your opinion on the game
A few too many SPOILERS in this review. Kind of inconsiderate.
Metal gear rising story was so fucked up but the gameplay was beyond and kept me want more... If it's the same with shadow of war.. I don't mind it at all.
Arclight Sama
Same and don't worry I'll protect your dwarf-kin Torvin and his brother in Shadow of War!
Alex Lester thanks Alex your family were always great help For us from your great granfather age's.
no mention about the microtransactions but the texts are too long boo hooo i wish i went to school
Looks like a boring game with a repeated formula, good review
HermosaBeachJoe whatever you say cyborg
That doesn't stop cod from getting 9e apparently
Same formula - Basically describing the past 9-10 COD ?
For some reason you decided to ignore "boring" in his comment.
wtf does unique characters even mean? You can make a pile of shit character and its gonna be unique. Doesnt mean its interesting character tho.
They play games for a living a 7 is good for me.
Average review. Would've been nice to talk about performance per platform, the microtransactions, and more direct comparisons to the original game. From an outsider looking in the game looks amazingly fun. Loved the first game and this one looks like an evolution of it, or more like a huge expansion.
These games are a disgrace to Tolkien.
guess ill play witcher 3 again and have a great time.....
3.3 on metacritic hahahaaha
Please don't listen to this reviewer. This is the best game of 2017. A must for fans of RPGs.
Terrible Review.
Only bashing on story/narration. SOW/SOM aren't focused on story. The nemesis system is where the meat lies.
IGN and gamespot seem so fake
So let me get this straight if a Casual plays the game he/she complains to much like it's to big, i don't like reading, and hard controls. I guess this person never played the first at all then or any rpgs.
Hard to call this an rpg. More of an action hack and slash kind of game.
King85Kong on easy yes it's a hack and slash game, on higher difficulty it's more of an RPG
Its constant fighting with little role playing. Adding a skill tree doesn't make it an RPG.
King85Kong hack and slash is only hack and slash nothing else. What makes an RPG?
Hard to define, but this is not it.
I stopped giving a shit about this game as soon as the RDR 2 trailer dropped. Good timing Rockstar.
So why are you here?
I’ll play for myself and decide for myself.
That said, a 7 isn’t a bad score by any means. That score means well above average, but most gamers think that anything below a nine is ‘garbage’. 😒
I agree but the game deserve more.
unsubbing, this is the new ign
I'll wait for Angry Joe's review of this before checking it out
Justin Rossi same here man ANGRY ARMY!
Angry Joe is not a valid source for well... Anything.
ALovelyTsunde
I can't really say anything other than opinion/opinion
There's no winner in that argument
Justin Rossi Well if I may bring up the reasoning behind my statement:
1. He openly defended Anita Sarkeesian from her critics.
2. He is dismissive of his fanbase and insulted them when he wanted to stop game reviews for a while.
Yes though, I agree: opinion is opinion and I'll die for the right to express yours.
I will wait for angry joe or ACG reviews
7.0 too much content!
Brace yourselves folks, Fanboys who haven't even played the game yet are abound with corporate filled excuses as to "why your opinion is wrong wah wah wah"
The graphics looks like a game from 2010 ! Well done WB !
You cant really see the true visuals of a game in a youtube video you stupid dumbass lol
The graphics looks amazing actually on my 75 inch samsung 4k tv I'll have you know
i gess this is wait for the sale
Lexi L stands at a 86 on metacritic from 22 review critics so not its a buy just not goty
Acg!
Lexi L Same here, I’ll wait for the inevitable game of the year edition with all of the content, updates and more for less than half of the price.
theres no point in waiting just based on one review. It has very good reviews so far and whatever you thought of the first will be amplified here.
There are only a handful of reasons to wait for a sale, but if you're more than moderately interested and want to play it, then pick it up.
Dislike
So looking at different reviews for this game it's not bad at all. For those who just depend on GameSpot, y'all got to expand your horizons a little. 7 out 10 isn't bad at all. However, IGN gave it a 9 out of 10. Others gave it either high 70's/10 or mid 80s/10. All I'm saying is that at the end of the day you decide if it's good or not. Personally, I preordered it and will see for myself next Tuesday. Can't wait💪💪💪
Open your mouth birdie. Let mommy bird feed you your thoughts.
Dan Stapleton is the worst reviewer in the business. He's like the armond white of game reviews.
Only 3 gave it lower that than 8 everyone else has given it a 8 or higher.
i don't trust ign they said rome 2 would be great....
The Duke you mean this Tuesday.
i have to disagree with alot, the games main problems are as follows
1. controls this was mentioned and rightfully so when you are in a huge mess of enemies its hard to target something specifically and sometimes even when i have the enemy i want to execute highlighted talion decides to execute a different enemy instead, obviously the AI in charge of your targeting wasnt properly debugged in development
2.Microtransactions, though not mentioned i can see why, either becuase gamespot was paid for this review OR they came to conclusion that i did and thats the MT's are 100% ignorable i have not paid a single dollar extra into the game and rightfully so as its not needed there is nothing you cant get by grinding that you cant get out of the shop (chest wise i know you cant get training orders by grinding) but as far as it goes you can get enough mirian by trashing gear to buy silver chests and thats all you need really,
3. CONTROLS omg again i have to go here becuase you can invert the up and down camera controls BUT WHY CANT YOU INVERT THE LEFT AND RIGHT CAMERA CONTROLS SO ANNOYING!
4.things that were revealed and not included in the game, like for instance the necromancer being an orc class or tribe instead its watered down into the "mystic" tribe certain abilities for olag hai like the battering ram perk for seige battles certain cinematics like your overlord making a speech instead of the bright lord after you win a seige or last chance savior cinematics where your bodyguard saves you from an overlords killing blow (but just damages the overlord and doesnt kill him like all of the savior cinematics) i just feel like there were alot of cool things they revealed that just were not included in the final game and thats saddening :(
i dont even see the menu's or the games size being the problem here sure there is alot of repeditive content but alot of it is Fun and interesting i mean hunting orcs and even trying to create your own ultimate nemesis that you can then later recruit and put as an overlord of your best for for the online conquest function of the game and even the abilities menu is not that big and its not really that hard to navigate i think thats really a shallow complaint.
ign give it 9.. i go with ign :D
IGN don't even properly play the games, they gave COD Ghosts and AW really good reviews and that's when I stopped watching their shit reviews
MrZodiac011 Gamespot is still much worse.
MrZodiac011 I do agree. ign don’t see that call of duty keep copying every year, like a subscription.
They have a ton of enemies around you but only one attacks you at a time. Looks like the game is set up to make you feel like a bad ass and have instant gratification. The game looks to have no challenge and will get boring very quickly.
J Ell set it to hard mode
What do you think? Will you be picking up Shadow of War?
I won't, I will not buy a game with built in microtransactions.
Udoby Break you dont buy many games do u
I wont buy games that have both microtransactions and pay for DLC. I don't care how good the game is, either choose one or the other... and if you choose microtransactions, make it cosmetic only! And if its DLC it better be MASSIVE enough to warrant it not coming with the base game.
GameSpot yup
Udoby Break thanks. I mean youre not sending the right message to the publisher/devs about microtransactions but hey whatevee floats your boat
WTF ..... !!!! I was played this game and it's beautiful also better than first one , I give him 9.0
Sad that the fanboys of the game are bombarding this review just because they didn’t give it a 9 or higher. And I say this as a fan of this game!
Princeofddr Dance Master
WRONG we're bombing it because they COMPLAINED ABOUT MENU'S in a FUCKING VIDEO GAME......and other BULLSHIT COMPLAINTS just to completely AVOID talking about THE EXTREMELY CONTROVERSAL RPG MICROTRANSACTIONS, FORGED BY SAURON HIMSELF!!!!!!!
Alex Lester Its like, totally an opinion.
People could also be disliking the video because they think it deserves a lower score...
Alex Lester no lie if you play persona 5 and come back to other games you'll be complaining about the menus probably too lol. The menus was so stylish and beautiful, persona 5
i couldnt quite read your comment, could you please caplock a few more words so i am able to read all of it?
I love Shadow of Mordor and I will play this Shadow of War for the next step . . I'm a fan of The Lord of the Ring since i watches The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies and the first The Lord of the Ring movie . . . i played LOTR on PS2 back in the day, I still remember how many times i died on that game 😄
I love Shadow of Mordor, but fuck this game, and fuck you Gamespot for not even mentioning the microtransactions in this review (makes it seem like you were enticed to wash over it, even though you still gave it a negative review). It doesn't matter if the microtransaction currency is given in "abundance" for free by the game, but the fact that there is microtransactions for single player mechanics is unforgivable in a full priced game. Hell, just raise the price of the game (I'd gladly pay $80 for a true Shadow of Mordor sequel), and give us a complete package or just put less content in the game to save costs. The rise of Indie games that are small but full experiences should show how not oversaturating games and inflating costs can be financially viable
“Too many things to do, 7/10” “Not enough things to do, 7/10”.... Seriously, what the hell is up with your reviews and their lack of consistency? Does the ‘G’ in ‘GameSpot’ stand for Goldilocks or something?
The game deserves lower than a 7. Get micro-transactions out of single-player games now!
Never happening, moron.
Dunny2k only Rick can lead us away from the bad leaders of these shady business practices in our once great video games!
Damn right!
Even if microtransactions are only for Skins!!! In game which is 60$, SINGLE Player, it is NOT acceptable! I could understand microtransactions in "FREE" games NOT in those BUY to play!!!!!!! GREEEEEED Devs! FU = not buy (at least not before SALE) :P
Ign gave it a 9, well see who's right
I myself am waiting for a 1UP or a GameTrailers review...oh, wait
Ghost Machiavelli I mean they're both positive reviews.
Considering IGN didn't complain about lots of content and abit of text my money is on IGN
Ghost Machiavelli Game Informer gave it a 9.5
They are both right because they are both opinions. This isn't some testament engraved on a stone. Two different people played a game and shared their opinions on it.
I just beat the game after sinking around 60 hours into it. The story felt like it was dragged out with unnecessary side story that does not help the main story at all. Act III was the only part that felt like there was some way the story of heading off to. Before ACT III Talion mostly relied on Shelob visions(which is pretty much a bullshit and cheap way of introducing elements of the story into the game). When you are in Shadow Wars it's at that moment you truly know that the gameplay mechanics are unpolished. I loved Shadow of Mordor because it was simple and they got a chance to make that 'simple gameplay' into something enjoyable. Over in Shadow of War in every f**king fortess defense the orc cutscenes are the worst. Let's say you have a warchief and a bunch of captains with him at A. You are at A in the middle of a fight with them. You see one of your orcs is bleeding out at B. You abandon the fight to revive that orc ENTIRE CAST OF WWE SHOWS UP WITH THEIR INTROS and you have to sit there for like 30-40 seconds listening to repeated dialogue of them telling you you are going to die blah blah blah. Another example.. you are low in health you want to dominate a regular orc for health then you hear "MANSWINE" and it cancels out everything. You think that does not annoy you? Boy oh boy wait until a bunch of orc captains die left and right you will get a cutscene showing that they died. It legit makes your character face that way rather than continue on his path from point A to point B. Let us talk about graphics considering this is 2017 and not 2013. The character models (aside from sauran) are absolute horrible. Talions face looks like a brick with hair on it. The cutscenes do not feature the armor you are wearing. an Orcs hair is has more detail than talion's hair. The environment looked stunning but the layout was horrible. Most of the game (ignoring minas ithril because you are going to barely be there after ACT I) you are in caverns or some place with rocks and lava and narrow hallways that lead from one area to another. I like the idea of having multiple areas but other than Minas Ithril everything looks like absolute trash. I replayed the first game before this one and by god Shadow of War is far superior than Shadow of War. They should've just made this game into a DLC considering the actual story is like 4 hours long. The new fortess thing? exciting at first but gets boring once you reach shadow wars considering thats the new thing the game has to offer. 2017 is the year Assassin's Creed Origins saves Ubisoft and 2017 will be the year a broken-mess like this will take the throne.
Don't buy this game repetitive piece of shit
tommyrichards100 lol have you played it?
I Eat Apples yeah from the amount of gameplay trailers they keep spaming me with
tommyrichards100 really? So who was your greatest follower? Who was that one uruk that wouldnt die no matter what you did? Which orc betrayed you? The actual shit that matters
tommyrichards100 Speak for yourself
What's up with Gamespot's reviews lately? Cuphead an 8, Forza 7 an 8, this a 7, really marking things way lower lately?
A 7? Really?
actionvids35 This isn’t IGN though.....
Ign gave it a 9
Games radar games it 4 1/2 out of 5
Most likely brought on by the 15-20 hours of repeated siege missions, which given the concern of many before release that they would pad out the game to encourage microtransactions, seems to have been created for such a purpose
His negative reasons for the game is silly like too much content that was the problem with the first game it had too little content & it got boring at times
So nobody actually LIKES these shitty Microtransactions & aren't asking for MOAR than just the ending & upgrades locked behind a paywall or a grindfest.
Which means that many trendwhores haven't the discipline to [BOTH] 1. Send a message to the industry by Boycotting the Day release, & 2. Play the game anyway after a year or so.
Just what I thought. Many trendwhores who are addicted to feeling "popular" in buying new shit NOW I NEED IT NOW. The same dickheads who are addicted to loot-box gambling; ruining gaming in general.
"Just ignore the Microtransactions" - Oh trust me!! I'll ignore them alright! By not buying the game at all!!
I felt the story of shadow of war was amazing. The end was legitimacy touching and I'm fine with Shelob, since it gives her a lot of character. I don't get why everyone is hating on this.
They hate bc of ✌️micro transaction ✌️
So the only negatives are.. too much to do in a single player action RPG? Too much text to read through even though it’s open world, lore filled, and fantasy? Too many orcs? Too long? Fuck me if these aren’t positive things. What a shit review. I’d appreciate a review if it gave an average score for a game if it didn’t just nitpick such weirdly out of the ordinary complaints. I get the reading part but really, most of the complaints are “too much to do.” Unless the review is aimed towards the ADD kids hopped up on sodie pops waiting for Cod WW2, this is probably one of the more useless reviews I’ve seen.
I'm sorry, but it is absolutely ridiculous that he is complaining about taking your time when deciding on which skills you want to allocate. Would you rather the game choose for you and then complain anyways? A lot of this review sounds like nitpicking when you take into account the staggering complexity of the number of passive and active systems this game has. This is truly a next-gen game, even by the scope of the risks it takes alone.
some critic points are just totally unimportant for me "bulky menus" man ... did you see the skill system of world of warcraft. I think some people wanted to be extra picky with the review.
I seriously disagree with this review. I’m hooked on this game and can’t put it down. Way better than the first and the content and amount of stuff to do is ridiculous. Hell, IGN gave it a 9, and I agree with them 100 percent which I usually don’t.
This review could be 100% accurate for all I know but in my opinion it sounded like a review that was rushed to make a deadline. :/ It's a confusing review that's for sure.
