If they added it in say assassin's Creed and called it a nemesis system, instant lawsuit but you could have a system similar and call it something else and probably be okay... The issue though is the risk, because if a small indie team have a great idea for a game with a nemesis like system, they run the risk of WB suing them. Even if they are likely to win the case that is time, money and effort they can't afford.

They outline how the nemesis system works and published the patent before the game was even released. There's a really good video on it that's worth watching. Basically any game that dynamically changes the enemies characteristics according to the player's actions is starting to tread dangerously close to the patent, which sucks. One of the few truly revolutionary action gameplay mechanics and it's owned by Warner Brothers.

I don't understand why Ubisoft haven't implemented the nemesis system into AC... imagine targets surviving your attempts, remembering and reacting accordingly. They could become more cautious of certain areas, use body doubles, hire more guards etc. Couple this with being able to be killed in a few hits would make a perfect AC game that is actually about Assassins... but I guess another hack and slash RPG is what we'll get instead.

I loved many of the added features after the removal of the micro transactions. You can purchase epic and legendary traits for your captains with “in game money”. This made fight pits no longer the only means of doing that. You send captains into the garrison, and they will be there even when you start a new game. This can help ease a lot of the potential grind of shadow wars in another play through. The combination of these updates and the dlc helped to make Shadow of War the sequel it deserved to be.
@@codyjames3416 It can allow you to send captains from one map to another. If you have plenty of captains in one area but not another, it can help to fix that problem. I feel it’s particularly helpful for first playthroughs especially if they’re on a higher difficulty. I’ve had at least 3 playthroughs of this game and there were plenty of captains I hated having to erase from existence. Whether they were really powerful or I had built a love/hate relationship with. Personally I like the fact that captains from older playthroughs can now be brought into newer ones. You tend to grow attached to many of these uruks.
Yep I'll definitely store my favorite orcs in the garrison, then start a new playhtrough. I have some pretty tasty maxed out orcs, definitely don't want to miss those.
i played this one as a first game when i bought my first XB1, and when they praise the combat variety of AC valhalla I always think of it and smirk a lil
The wraith abilities really add so much, swapping between bows, shadow strikes, and other ranged attacks along with melee combat, including counters, executions, and dominations all within the same combo is some of the best implemented combat I’ve ever played
Played several hours and still playing this game on PS4. Never gets old. At the end I always need more of it. More captains, more forts and more power.🙌🏾
Honestly still one of my favorite games to date. Wasn’t a Lotr fan before the game. I love the lore I love the gameplay I love the nemesis system and the adaptive A.I. Would recommend both games. If you’re the type to buy dlc then I would say the goty edition of shadow of Mordor, and The Definitive Edition of Shadow of War is worth the play through. I only wish there was a 3rd game with co-op
I am not a Fan of Lord of the ring either but the main character is badass and reminds me a bit of Castlevania Lord of Shadow 's main protagonist Gabriel 😉 , i am glad i am not the only one who never watched a Lotr movie and still jumped into this game. But honestly i think i will watch one of these movies, my Grandpa and mama loved them all ! 😉
I bought both Mordor and War a few years ago for like 8$ and 15$ respectively,but am only now starting to play through them. I'm still only like 3 missions into Mordor (im mostly exploring the map and trying to level up a bit before progressing) but im enjoying it a ton!
This game was super different to the games I normally play, and it was actually fun af. Got it free for on one of the psn months and was shocked how fun it was to mess around with the arenas in the game. Worth 15$ or less today. The game is fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
One of the most underrated games ever. There isn't a single game out there that makes you feel like such an unbeatable badass while also being fairly challenging at times.
This is the only pure single player game on PS4 I've spent 100+ hours on and I'm still not bored of. The part that I really like is that sometimes you'll be at a point where you think "okay I think I've seen it all now" but then something completely different happens wether it's a kill animation or Orc response. Also Brutal is not the highest difficulty, Gravewalker is.
This game had huge flaws and some extremely linear and boring content yet somehow it managed to be one of my favourite games ever. It combines RPG and RTS perfectly and I still play it years after getting it
Shadow of War is one of my favorite games of all time and it's sad that it's so underrated due to extreme overreactions to the microtransactions and being released the same year as Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, and Assassin's Creed Origins
This game is just amazing, bought in day 1 played the shit out of it. Last week i watched all the LOTR movies again and remembered about the game. Its so fun and fluid, i mainly kill captains and search for loot. Great video btw.

Even when there were micro transactions in the game, it did not effect anything in the game at all. There was no grind really. If you wanted gear, then go kill a captain and you’ll get gear. If you want a captain, then go recruit him. You can also get all of the micro transactions in the game easily and if you want then you can buy a box.
People had the audacity to complain about the Shadow Wars being grindy or too long. "Waah I can't beat every mission on the first try with my level 12 orcs! waah!"
I liked that we could buy upgrades for the Orcs. Now it seems very rare that when an Orc levels up, he gets a Fire or Poison or Cursed weapon/power-up like a band of Defenders or Archers or Berserkers or Ologs etc. I liked being able to buy a gang of Defenders or Archers or Berserkers or Ologs and applying them to a levelled-up Orc or Olog.
Omg finally someone who sees sense, I have well over 200 orcs in my garrison that I got from packs and I never payed an actual penny for them, even with the micro transactions I never needed to buy in game money for anything
The game wasn’t grindy until the end, where you hit a wall. I loved the game until that point and that completely turned me off. They turned down the grind since then, but to say the micro transactions didn’t affect the game at all is just wrong.
I have beaten this game more times than I can count. The gameplay is perfect. The nemesis system is god like man. New enemies and the dialogue and personalities from the enemy is so good. There’s consequences for dying and they improved greatly from shadow of Mordor. The body guard ability is my favorite. I’ve owned this game since it’s release. And every time I think I’m bored with it I simply increase the difficulty and suddenly I’m a noob again lol
I honestly love this game. That’s all there is too it. There’s a lot too explore and screw around with. And when I found the drunken orc at that very moment he became my best friend. 👏😂

I played through this game on PS4 but had a little itch to take a look at it again, so I'm buying it on PC. Managed to get in on the tail-end of an 80% sale, $9.99 is an insane steal.
Yeah, y'all should. In 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and so on and so forth. This game is AMAZING, one of my favorites of all time, and I'm playing for a second time right now. Even the first one is top-notch to this day, and I can't recommend both games enough. Every time I launch this game to play I have a unique experience in some way, the game manages to keep things fresh and entertaining until the end, when maybe you can get tired, because you already unlocked and did everything available, but still... it's a masterpiece.
Got the game in October 2020 and just finished it in Jan 2021. Honestly, I've always uninstalled games after I finished the storyline, but this was the first game that I still continue to play everyday. The personalities of the orcs are really engaging and feel very personal at each encounter. It feels like you're actually dealing with real characters at every turn and you can do so much more from actually skewing fights and conditioning it in a way where you can give your enemies particular traits depending on the encounters and end up handcrafting orcs that you can later recruit for yourself. It's a great experience overall and feels very personal every second rather than just being disconnected like an actual game.
Bloody amazing game, I for one enjoyed the story; it felt thrilling and immersing and it added flavor to the meat of the game, direction too. This was an AMAZING review, you touched on a lot of the details involving combat, the nemesis system, the idea of repetitiveness, the game being non-canon to the lore, and you went into depth and condensed it all in a nice smooth 12 minute video. If I had to suggest a few things, it would be to also talk about the online aspect of the game, near the endgame of Shadow of War, online conquest & pit fights play an integral part, so it was a little disappointing to not hear about that too much. Online Conquest in Shadow of War has a few hacked orcs with crazy abilities sleeping in the forts, however its a very minor problem (doesnt happen frequently) and they are being destroyed, HOWEVER I feel as though talking ab this would totally help people who are looking into getting this game simply because of the online/endgame. Regardless of suggestions, this was still a great review, and it's nice to see that people are still playing this phenomenal game in 2021, liked.
Absolutely phenomenal review for an awesome yet underrated game. You showed relevant gameplay in the back round and covered most aspects well enough. I do wish you talked more about the extensive armor, weapons and character abilities (skill options) customization options as they are far superior to what SOM offered. Great review!
I just want to see what a 3rd installment will be like. You can see the holes that were left by the microtransactions and im sure they won't have any in the first place for a 3rd installment. I also likke the visuals of Shadow of Mordor way more than Shadow of War so im curious as to what the theme will be in the possible next game.
I was super hyped when they showed the trailer, and immediatly bought the golden edition when it came out (I know, with all the dissapointment hitting us nowadays it was really rather stupid) bit it actually delivered. It was everything the hype showed it to be. And gosh the story was amazing. 10/10 from me, wish I could experiance it from start to finish like I did the first time.
This game is so good it's amazing. Talion as a character is great and the final scene with him finally finding peace is amazing, and don't get me started with the Nemesis system. I always laugh my ass off whenever my deranged captain goes in a stealth mission and starts screaming at the top of his lungs. I do think the skill issue makes sense, you lost the ring at the start of the game and it would make sense they have to re-gain the skills.
Yes but because Celebrimbor put most of his life-force in the ring so it makes sense that we aren't that powerful in terms of unlocked skills until we get it back
As a diehard LOTR fan, I've always been disappointed by the missed opportunities with the story direction of the game but I agree that the mechanics are really fun. I really enjoyed the first game of the series, even with my qualms about the story.

Regarding the microtransactions, they were never required, you could buy orcs chest with ingame Mirian which were really easy to get thousands of really quickly. The Miriam orc chests despite giving you mostly normal orcs, also had chances to spawn legendary and epic orcs (which weren't even required to beat the game).
Litrtally completed the Shadow wars a couple of hours Ago, great game and not repetetive if you don't play Every hour of the Day. The DLC's though I have yet to finish..
I have well over 600+ hrs in this game and honestly I would do it all over again cause I love how amazing they did in this game, even the fact they have online vendettas was a nice twist, more challenging raiding another players fortress.
I can easily say this is my favorite game, my first play through was casual just to get a feel for the game 100% and get all the achievements. I'm currently on my third playthrough just grinding cool orcs, one thing I will say is once you get comfortable with the game and understand the mechanics put it on nemesis difficulty its how the game is meant to be played, between orcs being able to "adapt" to your play style and the endless possibilities of cool/difficult orcs really let's it have unlimited playability
it is totally worth playing it gave me ideas for this Untold Story of Robin Hood that I am writing where he and his sworn enemy Prince John friends before they grew up to be sworn, enemies.
This game was a major success for Warner Bros, it hit sales records when it came out, and it was praised by critics minus the microtransactions. It is all but underrated.
I mean have you ever seen anything like nemesis in other games? This game is quite unique, it's weird that other AAA developers haven't copied this gem, i'm pretty sure they will soon. The system is so unique and cool that developers spent over 2 years to patent it, they wouldn't spend so much time on something worthless. This stuff has huge potential.

Idk if you’ll be able to see this but here’s a tip. When doing online conquests of other peoples forts try and dominate special orcs like Brúz. Some orcs are only available through DLC content so if you find yourself coming across some of the rarer orcs dominate them. Also do vendetta and more conquest online missions as they earn the most XP and getting a Spoils of War chest 100% guarantees you a Legendary card which allows you to make one orc Legendary.
I have over 200 hours in this game beat it four times nearly have all the legendary armor This game is good 10/10 there are also so many different orcs and builds I would recommend
After finally getting round to Shadow of Mordor and loving the domination system, I noticed that Shadow of War was on sale with all the DLC for £9. Only just got to act II where the domination system kicks back in again. Fun, fun, fun. Great buy.

This game was super different to the games I normally play, and it was actually fun af. Got it free for on one of the psn months and was shocked how fun it was to mess around with the arenas in the game. Worth 15$ or less today. The game is fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
One of the most underrated games ever. There isn't a single game out there that makes you feel like such an unbeatable badass while also being fairly challenging at times.
This is the only pure single player game on PS4 I've spent 100+ hours on and I'm still not bored of. The part that I really like is that sometimes you'll be at a point where you think "okay I think I've seen it all now" but then something completely different happens wether it's a kill animation or Orc response.
Also Brutal is not the highest difficulty, Gravewalker is.

This game had huge flaws and some extremely linear and boring content yet somehow it managed to be one of my favourite games ever.
It combines RPG and RTS perfectly and I still play it years after getting it
What would've been the cherry on top is if they added NG+ and show our gear in cutscenes although unnecessary
Shadow of War is one of my favorite games of all time and it's sad that it's so underrated due to extreme overreactions to the microtransactions and being released the same year as Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey, and Assassin's Creed Origins

Yeah, the microtransactions were to overreactive, especially because Origins also had it, and you don't even need to grind much in this game
This game is just amazing, bought in day 1 played the shit out of it. Last week i watched all the LOTR movies again and remembered about the game. Its so fun and fluid, i mainly kill captains and search for loot. Great video btw.

Even when there were micro transactions in the game, it did not effect anything in the game at all. There was no grind really. If you wanted gear, then go kill a captain and you’ll get gear. If you want a captain, then go recruit him. You can also get all of the micro transactions in the game easily and if you want then you can buy a box.
People had the audacity to complain about the Shadow Wars being grindy or too long.
"Waah I can't beat every mission on the first try with my level 12 orcs! waah!"
I liked that we could buy upgrades for the Orcs. Now it seems very rare that when an Orc levels up, he gets a Fire or Poison or Cursed weapon/power-up like a band of Defenders or Archers or Berserkers or Ologs etc. I liked being able to buy a gang of Defenders or Archers or Berserkers or Ologs and applying them to a levelled-up Orc or Olog.
Omg finally someone who sees sense, I have well over 200 orcs in my garrison that I got from packs and I never payed an actual penny for them, even with the micro transactions I never needed to buy in game money for anything

The game wasn’t grindy until the end, where you hit a wall. I loved the game until that point and that completely turned me off. They turned down the grind since then, but to say the micro transactions didn’t affect the game at all is just wrong.
I have beaten this game more times than I can count. The gameplay is perfect. The nemesis system is god like man. New enemies and the dialogue and personalities from the enemy is so good. There’s consequences for dying and they improved greatly from shadow of Mordor. The body guard ability is my favorite. I’ve owned this game since it’s release. And every time I think I’m bored with it I simply increase the difficulty and suddenly I’m a noob again lol

THIS game is AMAZING ! And if you love middle earth, it's a plus (even if this is not canon,still great). Buy it.

Yeah, y'all should. In 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and so on and so forth. This game is AMAZING, one of my favorites of all time, and I'm playing for a second time right now. Even the first one is top-notch to this day, and I can't recommend both games enough. Every time I launch this game to play I have a unique experience in some way, the game manages to keep things fresh and entertaining until the end, when maybe you can get tired, because you already unlocked and did everything available, but still... it's a masterpiece.
Honestly the best most innovative game. I'm just waiting for a coop version with team executions and maneuvers

Got the game in October 2020 and just finished it in Jan 2021. Honestly, I've always uninstalled games after I finished the storyline, but this was the first game that I still continue to play everyday. The personalities of the orcs are really engaging and feel very personal at each encounter. It feels like you're actually dealing with real characters at every turn and you can do so much more from actually skewing fights and conditioning it in a way where you can give your enemies particular traits depending on the encounters and end up handcrafting orcs that you can later recruit for yourself. It's a great experience overall and feels very personal every second rather than just being disconnected like an actual game.
I put 450 hours into my first playthrough. Top 5 games for me.

Bloody amazing game, I for one enjoyed the story; it felt thrilling and immersing and it added flavor to the meat of the game, direction too.
This was an AMAZING review, you touched on a lot of the details involving combat, the nemesis system, the idea of repetitiveness, the game being non-canon to the lore, and you went into depth and condensed it all in a nice smooth 12 minute video.
If I had to suggest a few things, it would be to also talk about the online aspect of the game, near the endgame of Shadow of War, online conquest & pit fights play an integral part, so it was a little disappointing to not hear about that too much. Online Conquest in Shadow of War has a few hacked orcs with crazy abilities sleeping in the forts, however its a very minor problem (doesnt happen frequently) and they are being destroyed, HOWEVER I feel as though talking ab this would totally help people who are looking into getting this game simply because of the online/endgame.
Regardless of suggestions, this was still a great review, and it's nice to see that people are still playing this phenomenal game in 2021, liked.

I just want to see what a 3rd installment will be like. You can see the holes that were left by the microtransactions and im sure they won't have any in the first place for a 3rd installment. I also likke the visuals of Shadow of Mordor way more than Shadow of War so im curious as to what the theme will be in the possible next game.

I was super hyped when they showed the trailer, and immediatly bought the golden edition when it came out (I know, with all the dissapointment hitting us nowadays it was really rather stupid) bit it actually delivered. It was everything the hype showed it to be. And gosh the story was amazing. 10/10 from me, wish I could experiance it from start to finish like I did the first time.

This game is so good it's amazing. Talion as a character is great and the final scene with him finally finding peace is amazing, and don't get me started with the Nemesis system. I always laugh my ass off whenever my deranged captain goes in a stealth mission and starts screaming at the top of his lungs.
I do think the skill issue makes sense, you lost the ring at the start of the game and it would make sense they have to re-gain the skills.
Yes but because Celebrimbor put most of his life-force in the ring so it makes sense that we aren't that powerful in terms of unlocked skills until we get it back

As a diehard LOTR fan, I've always been disappointed by the missed opportunities with the story direction of the game but I agree that the mechanics are really fun. I really enjoyed the first game of the series, even with my qualms about the story.
I'm also sad that it didnt connect to the movies but the game sure was fun despite it all. Massive W in my book.
When i was a kid I played Shadow of Mordor and I loved it. I was waiting for Shadow of war for long and when it cake bro, I was playing 24/7 until I finsihed it. I gotta say one of the best games I EVER playd and I played a lot of them.

Regarding the microtransactions, they were never required, you could buy orcs chest with ingame Mirian which were really easy to get thousands of really quickly.
The Miriam orc chests despite giving you mostly normal orcs, also had chances to spawn legendary and epic orcs (which weren't even required to beat the game).
Yeah they were unnecessary because someone could buy every powerful orc but if someone is skilled in gameplay that means nothing
Litrtally completed the Shadow wars a couple of hours Ago, great game and not repetetive if you don't play Every hour of the Day.
The DLC's though I have yet to finish..
I did the shadow wars about 2 yrs ago people said it was a grind but it was fun

I have well over 600+ hrs in this game and honestly I would do it all over again cause I love how amazing they did in this game, even the fact they have online vendettas was a nice twist, more challenging raiding another players fortress.
I can easily say this is my favorite game, my first play through was casual just to get a feel for the game 100% and get all the achievements. I'm currently on my third playthrough just grinding cool orcs, one thing I will say is once you get comfortable with the game and understand the mechanics put it on nemesis difficulty its how the game is meant to be played, between orcs being able to "adapt" to your play style and the endless possibilities of cool/difficult orcs really let's it have unlimited playability
Even as a massive LOTR fan i still loved this game ,i really wish we get a future game like this but with a better story
The story is this game's only major drawback. Still, the stories you get from the nemesis system kind of make up for it.
This game is one of my favorites. The load screen gives you a summary of play time and I’m currently at 135 hours! Still going strong baby!!
it is totally worth playing it gave me ideas for this Untold Story of Robin Hood that I am writing where he and his sworn enemy Prince John friends before they grew up to be sworn, enemies.

I picked this game up in August. Still playing it. Themed all my fortresses. Everyone is level 80, arrow proof, and legendary.

This game was a major success for Warner Bros, it hit sales records when it came out, and it was praised by critics minus the microtransactions. It is all but underrated.

I mean have you ever seen anything like nemesis in other games? This game is quite unique, it's weird that other AAA developers haven't copied this gem, i'm pretty sure they will soon. The system is so unique and cool that developers spent over 2 years to patent it, they wouldn't spend so much time on something worthless. This stuff has huge potential.

Idk if you’ll be able to see this but here’s a tip. When doing online conquests of other peoples forts try and dominate special orcs like Brúz. Some orcs are only available through DLC content so if you find yourself coming across some of the rarer orcs dominate them. Also do vendetta and more conquest online missions as they earn the most XP and getting a Spoils of War chest 100% guarantees you a Legendary card which allows you to make one orc Legendary.

After finally getting round to Shadow of Mordor and loving the domination system, I noticed that Shadow of War was on sale with all the DLC for £9. Only just got to act II where the domination system kicks back in again. Fun, fun, fun. Great buy.
