    After a year of disappointment from the AAA area this is a breath of fresh air. By that I mean a good game. Wolfenstein, South Park, and this are actually great while the overhyped games like Watch Dogs, Destiny and Titanfall just fail to deliver on every aspect.

      ***** I stopped following CoD after BO2, but I still don't believe that for a second. Is it still using the same dated Quake 3 engine? Still have a garbage kill streak system? Same claustrophobic maps? Any real changes to the 10+ year old multiplier experience? Last I checked, CoD was a stale, boring, broken game running on outdated technology. Honestly don't see why anyone would it play it over Battlefield, the difference in quality is obvious to anyone.

    I could be wrong but every time the reviewer mentions the uruk-hai I only see the normal orcs. The uruk-hai are supposed to be taller and stronger like the ones we see in Isengard.

    • @AdamRozza
      @AdamRozza 10 лет назад +27

      Well.. this game takes place before The Lord of the Rings, supposedly, Uruks and Uruk-Hai are different.

    • @xFaroth
      @xFaroth 10 лет назад +42

      Thought the same thing so I looked it up. Uruk-Hai are Saruman's creation and, since the game is set before the Great Years, they shouldn't exist yet. Uruks on the other hand were essentially bigger and stronger orcs, used to keep the lesser orcs in line. So, the captains in the game would be Uruks, probably some of their lieutenants as well, but any mention of Uruk-hai or referring to the common orcs as Uruks are mistakes on the reviewer's part.

    • @MetallicA7X92
      @MetallicA7X92 10 лет назад +6

      They are saying the wrong name as the Orcs in Shadow of Mordor are only Uruk orcs. And as mentioned Uruk Hai is Saruman's creation

      xFaroth Well if you want to get technical, Uruk is just Orcish for Orc. So really any Orc is an Uruk.

      ***** They are more critical, but come on; at the rate they are going, no game will ever get a 9.0+ rating again. Only cheap games with nostalgic gameplay or artistic games seems to qualify, and those aren't exactly breaking any new ground. The Last of Us was one of the greatest games of last generation, and was universally praised as such. Well, except for on 8 spot.

    Nice review, but I think you overworked the point about it being like Assassin's Creed a little too much. Comparing it to AC is all you did for the first few minutes, it got a bit repetitive and made you sound like you were fanboying real hard.

    • @Dragonk116
      @Dragonk116 10 лет назад +1

      ***** No I own the game and I can perfectly say it has nothing with the smooth AC stealth mechanics. Its more along the lines of the batman arkham games gameplay. Just killing an enemy from a ledge is a bit over the top the way you stab him, and its not as nearly as free flowing in parkour as assassins creed is. While its noticeable that they practically ripped out some of AC2 parkour mechanics, it feels too different here to really be the same with that series.

    • @lukerage4470

    Again, I would suggest that the important part of reviewing a videogame is for the consumers to know if it's fun to play or not. It doesn't matter if it has similar gameplay with other titles but more on how they execute the story to successfully immerse the player in.

    EVERYBODY who is even remotely interested in this game needs to buy and support it imo and here's why; Read it, you'll thank me later ;)
    This is the intro section of Kotaku's Shadow of Mordor review,which is btw one of the best reviews i have ever read, written by Yannick LeJacq.
    "Lugdash Broken-Shield. Now there was a tricky orc to assassinate. Until I discovered he was scared of fire. Once I set his minions ablaze, Lugdash dropped everything and fled. I wasn't going to lose the kill, so I chased after him. We both ended up running for a long, long time.
    I chased Lugdash out of the rusty metal fortress he'd laid claim to as one of the elite warchiefs in that region of Mordor. We sprinted up a verdant hill, Talion's dark blue cape billowing behind him. He dodged his way through the small orc encampments peppered across Mordor's lush yet barren landscape. I tumbled into muddy ditches and crawled feverishly up moldy ladders in pursuit. We skirted around stone ruins, past vicious, lion-like mountain beasts known as caragors. Other characters gave us passing glances. Some even tried to attack us. We blew past all of them. 2
    I wasn't quite fast enough to catch him. But I wasn't slow enough to lose him, either. The chase went on. And on. And...on.
    I started to wonder if I should give up, reload Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and try again. But I'd been trying to kill Lugdash for a while at that point. Every time I met him face-to-face in his stronghold, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of henchmen and lesser orcs he had at his disposal. And every time I died, Lugdash would become more powerful-as would his bodyguards and whoever happened to land the killing blow. The next time our blades met, then, Lugdash would sneer and remind me of how awkwardly I'd stumbled during our last fight. This made the first step of just infiltrating his stronghold harder every time, and the sting of failure more embarrassing in turn. Now, I finally had Lugdash on his own-away from his pesky underlings and anything else that could stand between us.
    I needed this kill. And there it was, so close to me. But he was still sprinting away. So I kept running too. The heat of battle gave way to a palpable silence.
    I eventually caught Lugdash because, in his terrified state, he ran straight into a cave on one side of Shadow of Mordor's first map.
    Ohhhhh, I sighed, tensing my shoulders. I've got you now, you little piece of shit. 3
    You should've heard how Lugdash and his orc bros were teasing me a few minutes ago. He deserves this, for all those times he wouldn't let me forget how I royally fucked up and ended up with an axe (or several) sticking out of my head. Now, it was my turn.
    I took a few swipes at Lugdash, knocking him to the ground. He struggled to get back up before sprinting in the other direction. But I had him. I kept hitting him, and hitting him, until finally he stumbled and stopped trying to get back up. His body heaving as he gasped for breath, my character strode over and pulled him into a kneeling position for one last killing blow. But Lugdash still had one last word he just had to get in.
    "Is any of this going to bring your family back?" the orc asked. One final twist of the screws, to get my blood pumping all over again. A moment later, his decapitated head was spinning in mid-air, soupy globs of black blood swirling around in slow motion.
    I'd achieved something, right then and there. But I didn't feel triumphant. There were still a lot more orcs and uruk-hai outside of that cave, just waiting for me to slip up and reveal a weak spot they could exploit. I had to do something else, something bigger, to show all of them who's boss. I had to keep trying.
    I strode out of the cave feeling restless enough that I attacked the next group of uruk-hai I came across. Things were going well, until a small pack of caragor showed up and started chomping on all of us. We all scattered in different directions. The commotion attracted the attention of another group of orcs nearby. My health precariously low and the entire situation officially out of my control, I decided to make a run for it. Before I could, the camera swung around to center on a massive oaf of an orc who'd decided to show up.
    "Is this a bad time?" he asked. Well, yes, I wanted to say. Yes it is, Mister Giant Ugly Orc With An Unpronounceable Name. But I didn't say that, and I wouldn't have even if there was some way to make Talion kvetch in Shadow of Mordor.
    The challenge had been laid down. It was time for another fight."

    I personally really disliked the AC series, I bought the games but never found myself playing it for more than 2 hours. I was hoping I'd enjoy Black Flag, the storyline is epic and the exploration is awesome too but it being a AC game, I couldn't enjoy it.
    I honestly hope this game doesn't ruin that for me... though it still does look awesome, I can't help but see AC plastered all over the stealthy combat.

    03:40 is it "melodrama?" The theatrics seem fitting for the subject matter, especially considering the in-game stakes (if you die, your killer becomes more powerful).
    Shadow of Mordor is a game set in a universe in which monsters, ghosts, and all-consuming evil entities exist--it isn't trying to be the Last of Us. Have some fun and stop trying to act like the smartest guy in the room.

    This game is much better than AC, it actually gives a solid reason for the whole Eagle/Wraith vision, unlike AC where it's like 'oh yeah, you have this weird vision thing'

    Almost gave this review a dislike just for riding AC's nuts. The combat is literally ripped straight from the Arkham games. Same number of enemies, same two button moves for finishers, crowd control, etc. Only about 6 hours in, but I'm absolutely loving just running around collecting stuff and slaughtering orcs. One captain actually tried to become my sugar daddy. In his taunt he said I looked messed up and that he could take care of me better than anyone else. That's primo psychological warfare right there, I tell you what.

  • @williamhites7336
    @williamhites7336 10 лет назад +3

    Wow, this review was terrible. Anyone who has played the game or seen someone play it knows it looks and feels more like Arkham. The wraith vision reminds me of detective vision from Arkham as well. The only thing that reminds me of assassins creed is the climbing, but when you play the game you never really pay attention to the way Talion climbs up walls. Besides he jumps up half the distance anyway.

    8? Really? What a cheap review. This game is okay, but it's not near great. No breakthrough mechanics, but good gameplay. Meaningless story, not immersive.
    This game is a 6/7 at best. Not a bad game, above average. But be realistic, story is really important in a game. It's the lore that makes you want to play and to live it, just like a book. We need more games like skyrim, bioshock and mass effect.

    What I can really say about this game in comparison to the AC games is the fluidity of gameplay. In AC you would run into many buggy and uncomfortable feelings when trying to simply climb a wall. But in shadow of mordor it seems extremely smooth. Its easy to initiate wall climbing, heck even the combat is ALOT better since it does share a similar combat system to that of the Arkham series. Nonetheless so far i'm loving and enjoying this game.

    I can admit that I wouldn't find this game to exciting if I wasn't a LOTR fan, but I'm a huge LOTR fan and this game was loads of fun and I greatly enjoyed the story line which developed an interesting plot on what happens after the final LOTR book/movie!!!! And I also gives great detail of the background upon how the rings were made, and founded which really got my interested while playing, but can I ask one thing and please don't hate (I don't know too much about LOTR because I recently just watched all the movies, and plan on reading the books soon.) but I thought gollum/smeagol died in the final LOTR movie/book when he leaped after the ring, and fell into the lava..

      I believe this was before the hobbit and the hobbit was before the Lotr series so he wasn't dead yet

      william chen actually this is taking part after the Hobbit but before the fellowship, because in the game if you read Saurons info it says he had recently been defeated by the White Council in Dol Gudor and that happens during yhe Hobbit story as revealed in the appendicies in the LOTR books.

    100% better review than the IGN unacurate overrated 9.3 clueless casual gamers point of view

    ...This was painful to watch. Those are ORCS, not URUK-HAI! Uruks weren't even created by Saruman yet...Geez. Game looks awesome.
