The secret is out! This is the VERY FIRST MGW Shifter made for these cars. Check out their Instagram, website, or email address in the video description for more information or to order one for your Camaro/Firebird. Thanks!
Those guys and gals are awesome. I went down to their humble business in Augusta, GA. to buy one for my 02 SOM Camaro SS hardtop. They are very helpful and answered all my questions. I love this shifter!
Agreed. The T5 is sort of the red headed stepchild of the community. They aren't all that bad if you don't drive them like you stole them haha. This shifter made all the difference in the world on my car.
Thanks Kyle. Sorry it took so long to respond, but I really appreciate it. I miss this car, but I know who owns it now. Maybe I'll buy it back someday.
Lol they did all the work, I just asked if they made one or of their other t5 shifters might fit. It's really cool though. Hope to do more stuff like this.
I have the next mod for you to do on a 3rd gen. I've owned 3 of them, and my oldest son now has one. Though it didn't bug me much in my youth, the fact that the 3rd gen never had a cupholder sure bugs me now. The space between the shifter plate and the console lid has nothing under it. I took the cup holder out of the fender on my riding mower, and hole-sawed a hole in that panel. A 5 minute job, and instant cupholder. I'm sure there's other options to use, but my mower was right there... I enjoy the videos, keep them coming.
Only a third gen owner would know that and advocate for it haha. I agree 500%. Theres a guy I see all the time that makes 3d printed versions that replace the ashtray area. I would consider buying one for sure.
i did the same thing 5 minutes after getting my trans am.i put a camaro console in it (i hate the firebird consoles)and added a cup holder in the console exactly were you said.
Lol! I can get behind this. To be honest, I've had the idea of making a M2W exhaust for my WS6. I'm a welder and I think I could modify a catback to work.
I’ve seen all your videos they are great simple upgrades that I can do at home I too have a vette and an iroc. I keep hearing you mention another iroc build besides the white one but I can’t find any videos on it can you tell me we’re to go to find them. Thanks
That factory shifter looks different than the ones i have dealt with in other third gens. Maybe thats a t5 shifter from a 93-02 v6 fbody? The reason why I think it isnt the original shifter to the car is because if you notice. Your lower shift boot is tight and stetched out because of the position of the fatter part of the shifter itself. Where as on a third gen shifter (at least the ones i have seen) the fatter part of the shifter is lower down on the shaft. allowing the lower rubber shift boot to sit more natural and compressed vs stretched. That being said it still obviously works for the third gens but just an observation that I had. BTW im super excited about this MGW short shifter for the 82-92 fbody! I just checked their website and did not see anything but ill check back in a week or so and if it pops up ill buy one! I have a 1991 Formula Firebird 1LE and a 1992 B4C 1LE that both have the t5 factory in them that i would love to throw a mgw in. Currently already have a Hurst Billet Plus short shifter for the Formula but would love to throw the MGW in my B4C 1LE.
Thanks for the input on this. To be honest, I would have no idea why someone would put a 4th gen T5 shifter into this third gen. It's not out of the realm of possibility but I can't see a reason why they would lol. I'll have to do some research on it, thanks for the tip. You have about as rare of a thirdgen as it gets with your 1LE Firebird. The Camaro sounds unique too! Sweet pair you've got. I'd hang onto them lol.
@@Greenlightfilming The 4th gen shifters are plentiful and everywhere. These old third gens tend to get beat on and so it isnt uncommon to see people have replaced the shifter because of slop and or ruining one because of putting an aftermarket shifter on that wasnt meant for the threads of said shifter. That being said tho, these third gens aren't very common with manual so if someone was trying to source the t5 shifter it would indeed be easier to snag one from a 4th gen v6 fbody. Thank you for the compliment on my cars. Based on some research I have realized that only 27 of them were made in the 305/5 speed combo. And of those only 6 of them, mine being one, were medium quasar blue (or Ultra blue,. Its a fight between camaro/firebird enthusiast which name it was actually called for the 1991 firebirds lmao). She's not the prettiest but one day she will be. Its in similar condition as your iroc.

No one probably made them because the transmission sucks. I did run a pro5.0 shifter on my original trans and was night and day compared to stock. I now run a steeds triax customized on my tko600. My C6 came with a B&m and I have no complaints. I did shift through without driving a c6 with a cal away shifter and that felt awesome.

Nice. It's an excellent upgrade for any manually shifted car.

Haha, well I'm glad someone did... That was a giant PITA.
Do you know when it will possibly be released? Really would be interested in getting on in my car
You may have to contact them directly for one via phone or email. I'm surprised it's not on their website yet. This was a long time ago.
This should fit my 89 305 then correct ? Manual
The shifter balls on the website are only listed for mustangs I’m a little confused I could take a wild guess that the older option is appropriate
Ps it’s for an iroc
Last I heard, they didn't add it to their website yet. The best way to order one was to contact them directly.
where did you get the gasket?
The next mod I would do is exhaust. Does it have headers? What kind of muffler is on it?
This has stock manifolds and some sort of farmer john booger welded exhaust lol. It's all junk.
I'd like to do this to my 1995 Trans Am
Definitely do it. I've got one in my 4th gen. They are the best in the business. You won't regret it
What was the key lock for to the right of the shift diagram? Just wondering.
No idea what that was ever for. There was nothing connected to it.
What is the thread pitch on the 4 bolts holding the shifter down? I lost my bolts and have no info on them please help
I'm not sure, to be honest. You'll have to do some homework online, or match a bolt to it.
Hi where did you buy the shift knob and boot retainer and what size is it
The boot was the factory boot, and I ordered that color shift knob from MGW. It came with the shifter assembly.

It appears they never put it on their website. If you call them, or send them an email they will hook you up. Think the email is in the description.
Is there a way you can put gears into a third gen I have an automatic 86 Iroc...
Yes. You can replace the rear ring and pinion. A popular choice for an automatic car is a 3.73 ratio.
What do think is next for the IROC?
Not 100% sure. I'd love to keep modifying it but it does need more maintainence/repairs first
