      Well if you can find a 400 small block I say go for it.
      But have fun with it till it all ready to go.
      It will not hurt the value because of the
      Previous owner engine swap and deletion/weight reduction of stuff under the hood

      I'd drop a 400 in cause that's probably what I'll do with 91 firebird 305 or super charge the 350 and hope it don't blow out a piston

    So glad to hear you are keeping the IROC! I also own an 86 IROC. I like your plan for the car to keep it closely original and upgrade the brakes, suspension ect and tidy it up. I would keep the 350 and 5 speed combination, suits the heritage of the car and LS swaps have been done to death. I can’t wait for the next video.

      I agree with you on keeping the 350/T5 setup for now. LS swaps have been done to death, but I have to admit that they are the way to go for the most part. Nothing against them, but I already have two LS cars. A third won't do much for me lol.

    I'm a F-body guy, big surprise. I've had 3rd gen's on and off for years, right now it's on and most likely it's gonna stay that way cause I'm pretty much buried in my current one. 8 years ago I was looking for an Iroc but came across a 1984 Z28 L69 car, since then I've cleaned, painted, replaced or powder coated whatever was needed to the point of anything now is really just nitpick stuff.
    I stopped worrying about putting more into it then it's worth a long time ago, I realized if I did I'd never get the car where I want it to be condition wise. Even the guys with the 60k muscle cars have more into their vehicles than they're worth and they don't seem to care, so I say keep improving it. I think you have a nice car there, your other cars are nice too.
    However, If you wind up getting crazy with the IROC it will pay off down the road. Like you said they're starting to become more valuable, people are starting to appreciate them as well. Soon as you start driving it more, I'm pretty certain you'll get a good amount of attention if you take it to cruise nights/car shows and even people in the next lane.
    Good luck with it...

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  3 года назад +1

      I think you make a good point about not caring with what a guy has into a car that he loves. That's a pretty big hurdle I'd have to leap in my mind with any car to be honest, but I definitely see you point and agree with it.
      This might be the one I throw the kitchen sink at. I really like it and don't really plan on selling it anytime soon. I think it'll be a super cool car with the right parts on it.

    I’m excited to see this! Keep the SBC and T5 until they break. Rebuild the suspension and put big brakes on it. Also if you want to fix your water temp gauge, take the glass of the instrument panel and slip a small piece of vacuum hose over the top end of the gage. It will keep the needle from pegging out and sticking when you start it. The 90-92 cars didn’t have that problem

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  3 года назад

      Hey, thanks for the tip! So far, I've noticed that the water temp gauge doesn't appear to be hooked to anything. I'll find the wire pair in the ECU bundle I trimmed back and tucked behind the fenderwell. I'd bet it's in there.... Would really like to see coolant temp for obvious reasons.

      @chriswiseman5143 3 года назад

      @@Greenlightfilming All those wires you tucked into the fender well are the engine control harness. The wiring for the gages and lights is on the other side of the engine bay. The temp sensor wire should be a single dark green wire that goes through the C100 connector on the driver side firewall, near the brake booster. After going through the firewall, the wire should travel along the top of the driver side valve cover and hook into the the temp sensor on the driver cylinder head. I think the temp sensor location is between the number 1 and 3 exhaust ports.

    Ls swap would be cool but you already have 2 other ls cars. I think you have a pretty good platform to work with and if that t5 did blow a t56 swap would make great content. I have a 89 rs 2.8l v6 t5 and at first I wanted to LS swap it but these v6 are fun to drive with a 5speed. I just finished almost all the suspension work umi and koni struts and its amazing. I plan to drop a 3.4 v6 into it as its a direct bolt in swap. Little more power but really I just want a light weight fun car with great handling.

      3.42s are readily available. V6 Camaro's used them, and they were popular in S10's. I swapped a set in my son's, and bought a new posi unit. Count your axel splines for before you order a posi, the Camaro used 26 and 28 spline axles. 89 was the change over year, with both axels used. 90 and up all should be 28 spline. The 4th gen rearend is a bolt in, but 3 inches wider than the 3rd gen. Don't forget you need a rear disc proportioning valve if you install rear disc. I got one off a 87 GTA from a junked car. Dial in your idle enrichment screws with a vacuum gauge connected, tune to highest vacuum equally on both screws 1/4 turn at a time. Now move the vacuum advance hose to the ported outlet on the carb (above the throttle plate) and lower the idle if possible, 850 or less would be ideal. The goal is to get the throttle plate to sit in line with the transfer slots. If it won’t idle in the transfer slots you may have to drill the throttle plates to allow more idle circuit air.
