I like the Kaiser, but I have to say there is something strangely awkward about it's profile particularly around the back doors and rear wheel wells. Take a look for yourself at the 1:50 mark in the video. The only way I can describe it is that it looks a bit cartoonish. Anybody else see that?
We could have all sorts of discussion about car stying,. Back in the 40s-50s, the "Big Three" US-Can builders each had their own take on what a modern sedan should look like. The Fords went for the bathub style smooth sides (BTW also Nash) & the Mercury-Lincolns had a crooked body line on the side The GMs evolved from the pre WW2 Cadillacs and the Chrysler lines were more boxy with rear panels bolted on separately from the doors. The Kaiser was designed by Howard Darrin, so the rear wheel bulge in the rear door was subdued. In general, the idea was to make every car look like a sports coupe. This theme still holds today, with wheel flares, etc. There is a Kia SUV that has some weird gawdawful creases on the side panels.

I think I've only ever seen one Datsun 411 in my life and that was a car that belonged to a college buddy back in 1975. His was totally clapped out, but he liked that because he could drive it at full throttle everywhere he went and no one would notice. 🙂

Once the 2025 calender is available, it will be bought by me. So far the 2024 calender has been the best thing that has happened to me this year. Love it.

Finally---a high-pressure steam cleaner!! To be able to use that device to clean off the "field-fresh" finds and not dig through 65+ years of crud before trying to work on them would be an absolute joy. Great video. Thanks.

I am so jealous of Ashley's Datsun projects and collection of Fairlady cars. I drove my 1970 SRL311 through most of High School and College. You have no idea how much it hurt to finally have "retired" my ride (and the two spares) around 2003 Scott. I hate you Ashley. LOL

Loving Ashley's Datsuns. Those car were very common back in the day and they still look good.
Blue is a very good color for a 411 Datsun, because it was called Datsun Bluebird (at least) here in Finland...

Very succinct summary of CWM’s undertakings for us followers who wonder, “What’s up with that car?” The Kaiser looks dandy with the whitewall ‘spats’ which transforms its appearance far more than “just putting lipstick on the pig.” Looking forward to the intense competition @ the Tractor Pull!

I remember the Datsun 210. I think it was the Cheapest car in the USA at that time. If you wrecked it. You just bought another Datsun. Nice to visit Ash n see his collection.

It’s a well-known automotive axiom that ‘59 Biscayne four-door six bangers make excellent storage facilities for other projects. Especially when turning a ‘60 Biscayne four door six banger into a glorious Impala V8 2-door coupe!

The Datsoon sickness is alive and well. Those rusted out after about two days. I could finally see the green on Laura's Rover this time. It always looked black on my laptop.

Scott, thanks for the in-depth update on the project cars' status! Frankers seems more huggable than usual, probably due to mild weather and the resulting plethora of chasable squirrels! Looking forward to the return of Tractor Gnome in competition! Haven't gotten my Chevy tee as yet but New Mexico is a fer piece from the fer north! And our local mail is delivered by burros! Mega cheers!
Nice to see Ash's projects again. I'd really like to see the interior of the Boogie Van. The Datsun angle (for him) is probably far less expensive than playing with BMW. I'd bet that he has monster plans for that yellow 510 wagon. Please help him out with some splashing after all he has done with the splice and other stuff lately. I had to read up on that rover engine once I saw the valves trains. What an interesting engine and application of the F head design.

The Newstead genes have passed on the artistic touch to Laura's daughters. Sincere idea: why not make coffee cups that have Cold War Motors car grills on one side and tail fins on the other, with artistic painting of the sides and windows around the cup? I bet these would sell if priced around what the calendars are, maybe make some college money.

Besides kaiser permanente ,Henry J also ran a broadcast net work for 20 years . A real go getter!
The Rover engine is a design tour de force. The designers managed to create an inverted hemi head that is very knock resistant.
The transmissions clean is the only way to work on an automatic. You don't need the chance of contamination. The Rover is looking so very close! Ashley has quite the setup. It will be really nice when he gets his 411 finished. Time, it's always about the time. Thanks for sharing everyone!!
@6:55, can't say I've ever seen a motor layout like that one...looks simple and stout....llooks like tht kind of engine w. valve set-up could last a long time if not horsed hard.
I remember when I got a manual transmission for my Chevy: It was even worse than your Dynaflow. It took hours and hours of scraping just to find out the shape of the thing! How that much dirt can stick to a transmission seems incredible!

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about because I worked for a long time in the tile business in the famous pottery centre of Germany, the Westerwald. I definitely wanna see more of their products! By the way: I bet that this stuff would sell well.
