  • This is easily the best appearance modification you can do to a third generation Iroc-Z Camaro. These are from Trackspec Motorsports, and are the BEST MOD EVER. This installation video will go over how to install functional heat extractors into your car at home!
    They are also referred to as "hood louvers", or "hood vents", and are made to be cut into the factory location of your car's inserts.
    This information is applicable to the third generation (1982-1992) Pontiac Firebird/Trans Am/Formula, and Chevrolet Camaro RS/Z28.

      @@willkeith8699 well bud, they're older cars so your gonna have to look hard and long for a clean original one with all the good options. I drove 8 hours to and from 3 different third gens that ended up being bad buys. Finally drove another 8 hrs to go see my final one. 91 formula ws6 5 spd 5.0 tpi , t tops 100% original complete interior and exterior 130k miles for $6k. Don't settle and check marketplace,offer up, and craigslist at least once per day and you'll find one for sure. It's mostly a waiting game and turning down a lot of sellers. Good luck!

    Nice upgrade looks cool and I'm sure it lets a ton of heat out of the engine bay that's for certain. As far as airflow that's not the correct way to measure the airflow coming out of the engine bay what you're doing is you are looking at airflow traveling over the hood. don't drive the vehicle, place a large fan below the hood line and see what that gets you. What you want to do is simulate air flow passing through the radiator and exiting the vents.

  • @whf3826

    I would love to know the ambient temp under the hood before and after these vents were installed.

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  3 года назад +9

      Maybe I can do some testing.... I do have covers now. It would be pretty easy to simulate a sealed hood vs. a vented hood.

    Hey cool vid, i owned a lot of camaros and firebirds over the years. The best way you can help those heat extractors work the best is to remove the plastic lip at the bottom of the radiator and cut out the front bumper. The black peice dead center in the front of the bumper you will get tons more flow across the radiator and out the engine compartmentup through the vents.

  • @johnsnow1355
    @johnsnow1355 2 года назад +3

    I would of left the under hood bracing in place for strength. Painted black you wouldn't see it and the hood would flex and bend less. Only Pontiac ever figured out real engine bay venting like the fiero and Trans am had.

    I had an '87 with the 5.7ltr. After installing performance exhaust, a .30 bore & just about everything else you could do to the car to make it go fast (NO2) it was a hot engine. Those louvers look perfect! There was an IROC-Z TURBO hood one could buy to vent the added heat souping up the engine does. The Louvers should be adjustable for speed.

    I wouldn't expect the tufts to move much. There's a lot more air flowing over the hood vs through the radiator. The vents are also so big that the air coming out isn't moving very fast. Look at how big the C7 hood vents are. I did notice the tufts standing up a bit, which is a good sign that there is air flow. under hood temps should be much lower now.

    Harwood Daytona fiberglass hood takes the same louvers oh, I had it on my 92... Man it would have look sick with those real ones!
    You could always add some Racing Stripes if rest of the paint is in decent shape on the car, to cover up the paint issues on the hood rather than try and repainting the whole hood, and then have to worry about it matches the body. My 92 add dual black stripes on the Daytona Hood rear trunk deck and a Z28 wing, however rather than just straight wide racing stripes on the hood we followed the Louver line and they taper down in the front to thinner stripes oh, give it a unique racing stripe, that definitely looked good. Again that was with the Harwood Daytona Style Hood.

    Did you ever do the video of how to cover the vents?

  • @matts3694
    @matts3694 3 года назад

    you could have painted the entire chipped pain area in a black matching the black of the inserts up to the lip. Maybe that is a quick fix to prevent the rest of the hoods paint from becoming distressed like the pain in the vents?

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  3 года назад +1

      You are right, and I do regret not taking a little more time to repaint things. In the grand scheme of things the entire car needs a paint job. At the time I didn't get too caught up in some chips.

      You should have sanded it smooth in the recess part and tape off the top surface of the hood and paint the entire recess black so the crappy paint doesn't stand out untill you do a full repaint on the car.

    I plan on putting those louvres on my 87 IROC with a 4in cowl just to have something different but keep the old school look. I gotta find a fab shop near me to put the inner bevel like the OEM hoods tho, so it fits better.

    • @Greenlightfilming
