  • In today's video we take years of neglect off of the car inside and out. We fix some SKETCHY fuel lines and give the car it's first oil change. The engine has been decoded and information is in the video! It's NOT a 305.
    We are actually dealing with a 350 from what seems to be a 1974 Chevrolet car or truck. There's a slim chance it's from a Corvette.

    I have an 85 L69. I pulled the carb/ECU harness out because it was crap and ran a vacuum distributer as well. The reverse light wiring are in that harness if they never hooked it back up. I just reran after I pulled mine out. The plug for that is on the divers side of the trans.

    Just scored an 85 Iroc Z, you got lucky, mine was 15" deep in the ground and had been sitting for 15 yrs with a blown head gasket, BUTT I got it for 500 bux. Yesterday I got the balls to try and crank it, didnt wanted to find out it was seized but did anyway and its moving. Time to drop the tank and then do the heads. Took 3 days to get the motor clean of the mouse crap did I mention that they ate the plug wires in half but didn't touch any of the other wiring.

    • @Greenlightfilming

    As far a the battery voltage dropping when the electric fan turns on, check to see if it is a factory fan motor. I have the factory dual electric fans on my Firebird and the primary fan started to go. It would still work but, drawing way to much current. So much in fact it was melting the wire harness to the battery. I put in new GM fan motor and replaced the fan wires. About a year later, on a very hot day, the same thing happened to the secondary cooling fan. Replaced that motor, and both have work flawlessly ever since, with no crazy current draw.

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  3 года назад

      That could very well be it. I have spun the fans by hand since reading you comment and the motors seem to be "free", although that doesn't account for the motor's windings. It could be a bad fan, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind.

    I would have to say it's the alternator that's weak going about to go out... But yeah I had a Camaro just like it but there's a very first year of that body style 82 I think berlinetta, I had 10-in deep dish cragars on it and front runners on the front built 350 I put in it loved it it was an automatic with a shift kit

      You are probably right on the alternator. It's either the battery or alternator as the car sits now. It always starts fine and seems to have plenty of battery capacity after sitting so I'm leaning towards the alternator. I think you and I spoke on Instagram?

    Whoever had that car before you just took whatever factory Induction the car had and took it off.
    I know the 85 IROC’s you could get the 5 speed and quadrajet don’t think you could get it with tpi with the 5 speed. The 5 speed was never available with the 350 in the 1987 and newer models. Gm said the 5 speed was not strong enough.
    The belt setup looks wrong for that year.
    There are so many ways not to hack up wiring and do things right. Is this really an IROC or just a plain Camaro?

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  Год назад

      It was a real iroc that came with the 305 (LG4) and the T5 that was in it.
      At some point in its life, someone swapped in what turned out to be a mid 70's truck 350. I go over the whole engine deal in another video.

    You used the wrong oil.. Its a flat tappet motor and you need to run Diesel oil like shell rottella T-6 because it has more zink in it for lubricating the lifters and cam. I Use a zddp zink additive also in both of my 3rd gens with flat tappet cams.. Newer 1987 and up motors with center bolt valve covers all have roller cams and lifters and you can run any type of oil in them!

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  3 года назад

      You are right, I have to give it to you. That's something that I totally overlooked! I'll add some of that zinc additive to it before driving it again. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • @HockeyGoon939
      @HockeyGoon939 2 года назад

      Modern diesel oil isn't much higher in zinc than most regular gas motor oil. All the emissions on modern diesels has changed the formula. Unless you can find some specifically rated CJ-4(1200 parts per million), if it's CI-4 or higher (less than 800 parts per million, some times a lot less) the zinc content is so low it doesn't matter. Most of what's on the market is CK-4, the zinc has been lowered to keep the regenerater from burning up. Similar to the issues gas engines have with catalytic converters.

    • @HockeyGoon939
      @HockeyGoon939 2 года назад

      If that 350 is from the 70s I doubt you need to worry about zinc. It's needed primarily during break in to treat the cam. After 40 years the cam is either good or it's gone.
