@@BackyardDesignGuy I'd love any suggestions you might have on my issue which is side yard along the garage with already paved sidewalk to the backyard. There are about 2-3 feet between the sidewalk and the fence line. Neighbor next door puts up a pergola that is about 12' high and I'm not staring at the tin roof of pergola from my bedroom window. Do not want to do bamboo. Cypress would block my sun. English Laurel does not grow high enough. Any suggestions you have would be totally appreciated.

What da? It is a video about people wanting privacy or a way to block unsightly neighbors' yards. If you care a lot about those things, why would you not want a screen to block it out? Why is telling the truth unbecoming? Everyone I know wants privacy due to these exact reasons. This poor guy got bashed a million times for posting the incredible work he did and mentioning the reasons people paid him to do it. Geez.

Seen somebody put up a privacy fence. New neighbor demolishes the quaint little ranch or cape next door. Erects a giant plastic and particle board eyesore (house) 3 floors high, looking down into the other guy's yard. Good fences no longer make for good neighbors. Acreage makes for better neighbors. Or better yet, no friggin' neighbors.

Wish I had your ideas years ago! My neighbors kitchen windows look straight into my living room and there is a 3 foot tall (worthless) concrete wall between our properties. Unfortunately, there are a couple magnificent old tea trees I couldn't bear to remove. So I planted a row of pittosporum,
Australian rosemary underneath themto block some of the nuisance. They are just starting to grow tall 4 years later. A fence or screen would have been helpful during those years. However, the property line is covered by the block wall with concrete about 2 feet underground, so it was challenging to build a structure there. Looking forward to seeing more videos about creative solutions from you!

So behind supply stores like Home Depo they have those big medal container trash cans, well you can find a lot of great things in them that are mostly in good condition. Things we’ve gotten we’re 4x 4 and larger up to 16ft, pallets, plants, brick, particleboard, corkboard, cement, basically everything they consider unsellable (totally a great find). So go check out what’s in their trash bins. You may not be able to afford it so go and hustle it.

This was one GREAT video. The different views, explanations, ideas etc. were top notch! I've seen a lot and I mean a lot of videos on backyard ideas, fences, plants and this video just ran the gamut of different types of things you could do for your yard. Check your zoning requirements before you install any of these. Generally, no structures are permitted except fences and balconies in the legal side yard. Often there are footprint and height limitations for structures in the legal rear yard. The height and design of all fences are controlled by zoning and building codes.

Look for clumping bamboo. Ours grew to about 15’ and it doesn’t send out rhizomes. New shoots emerge at the base of the plant and can be cut at the surface to shape the screen. Works great!

I spent $50 for a privacy screen from Amazon in 2016. It's 6x60ft. Similar to a wind screen on a tennis court. Dark green. 90% blockage(see thru 10%). It has grommets spaced 4-5ft along the edges. Attaches to 6ft chain link fence with zip ties thru grommets. 100% privacy and cheap. And it looks nice.
