Well that doesn't apply to me because no one wants to jam with me cuz I don't know s*** right. Now if they would give me a chance to let me jam with them sit down and learn it I would but by myself my mind would not do it I'm trying the best I can by myself but still it's not good enough I wish it was better but you do what you got to do
I grew up through the 80’s Metal era and I miss it. It’s great to see some of those bands making a comeback . You play it the the way you feel is comfortable to you. No one should criticize someone’s else’s guitar skills. The difference is, they are down in the audience and you are on stage. There’s a reason for that. It’s easy for someone to watch and say, he’s not playing it right. Keep doing what you do. Keep on Rockin, 🎸🔥👍
Subscribed. I'm a drummer, but this stuff is still pretty cool to me. Also, you seem like a real humble dude who has some serious chops. Keep kicking ass.
A monkey can get on a stage and play in front of 4 people in a 10x10' bar somewhere downtown. A monkey can't get 100 students online via Skype and make more money.
I'm really glad you said played in a different position but the same notes. I'm the exact same kinda player, I play by ear, but I always figure songs out in the "wrong" position, BUT I'm playing the correct notes. So for this thank you
I watched a video of Jake E. Lee explaining how in the day everybody would learn the same song but they all learned it differently, it made each guitar player unique and have their own style instead of a guitar world where there's no variety. Sound advice.
Na the notes are the sane distance apart or they are exactly the same notes in a different place. Nobody thinks there are rules but there are absolutely explanations and understanding theory is extremely powerful..
The part that grabbed me the most in this video, is where you talk about the guitar players in the crowd and said" I'm the one on the stage" referring to players who are too critical. That statement is very true and powerful. A lot of proficient players who can play note for note end up not playing in bands or live. Either because they can't gel with other players, lack the Grove or right attitude, or are simply afraid of shitting the bed and being harshly critiqued themselves, because that's what they do. This video is caulked full of awesometisity!!
Dude, you are AWESOME. I love the honesty. I play too, but am so far from a pro, I appreciate what you’re saying. And now I have an easier way to play one of my favorite songs! Thanks!
My daughter is learning guitar. I love this song but her hands are just not ready for the "real way" to play this after only 5 months. I am pretty confident she can gets this way in a few hours. Thanks a lot Eddie.
Awesome job. I'm a beginner, and want to learn this riff which is way too difficult for me. However, the shortcuts which sound just as great to me are just what the doctor ordered. Outstanding job. Thank you!!!
Very cool man! I have small hands and short fingers. I’m always trying to find authentic sounding ways to play riffs with ridiculous stretches. Sweet guitar!
This is the first time I’ve came across your video. I enjoyed watching you play. I’m not a guitar player. I’m a drummer at heart, but your long hair caught my attention watching your video you were great I love your basic tactics. You used like a normal person sitting across talking to me. I’ve been wanting to do some RUclips videos, but I was worried about the haters out there, but watching you makes me wanna say F___ all of them and just have a good time making them. Happy New Year’s, and thanks to people like you that are keeping rock ‘n’ roll alive!
I miss the 80s , no worries there for me WE just got our first microwave , no cell phones , I'm 53 now and M TV died years ago , I couldn't wait for M TV HEAD BANGERS BALL and all the new metal videos , I recorded them to VHS and or BETA that war wasn't over yet . Thanks for the Video . Play it your way , sounds great man .
This is the most real, honest and true video I have ever seen on RUclips regarding guitar playing. Especially playin in cover bands doin what you love. Nice job. Good luck to you and hope to find you on tour sometime, somewhere!!
I absolutely respect this musicians candour. He just speaks from the heart, no pretense. Thank you for sharing your talent, and giving such a positive perspective on the joy of just playing guitar (for the individual). I applaud you...and yes, your Axe is very bad ass. Cheers
This is so cool to see. I'm completely self-taught and when this album came out, there was no RUclips or anything to show me how to do it and I learned it exactly that way! In the second and third fret position because that's the easiest way to do it and it made the most sense to me. Most natural. Every time I played that for a friend, they look at me strangely like what? Lol.. I'm so glad you posted this, I feel vindicated.
Brother, I’m a fan of Ratt and a fellow guitar player as well. I think how you play it is just fine and your right, same damn notes!!! Love your perspective of what’s best for live performance. Good on you man.. love that you’re doing what all you’ve done and doing. Keep up the good work bro .. Thank you for the video 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Oh p.s. I had a friend and his brother that lived and played out there for years. Bands were, DZ Stanz and ChiggerRed. Ok cool. Glad I found your channel. Fan from Alabama !!
There's no such thing as the right way to Play, what is in your heart your soul at the moment let the shredding begin I've been playing 50+ yrs thanks Mr Dall
You are tossin out some great names. You have the look to cover all the names you mentioned. That has to be a blast! Warren is seriously in my top 3 of favorite guitarist. I think he had the loudest monitor volume that I have ever heard. First time I saw Ratt was back in 84 in El Paso, TX at a place called The Big Apple. I respect everything you say in your approach to your art/task and in return to any critics. I have never been able to copy Warren's chops like Warren. There is just something in my wiring that doesn't allow ....lol First time seeing you. I think I will be "Back for more" :)
This IS true. Most likely bc they've already "Made it" & will bring in Royalties for life. Some or most around KC? Just plain Lazy & don't put any perfection into what they do. 😎
DUDE ,, U R A ROCK STAR….UR DOING IT…NUFF SAID….SATCHEL SAYS IT BEST…NOW ACT LIKE IT…keep ur down to earth.bro…ride that fine line of badass rockstar…and respect to fans
Well said. We used to play a lot of Rush & Police & the funnest times we’re when we would improvise small sections & do some add-ons. Even more fun!🤘🏼🎸🔥
Mike gave me great advice years ago. I came across the tabs he had written down for me not to long ago. Good job on spitting the truth and telling it how it is.
I agree. You can put way too much time into learning note for note for the 1% that might notice. Like someone else said, those of us in the old school crowd didn't pick up music videos that show how to play stuff. We had to play everything by ear. We didn't slow it down to learn it either. Just get it as close as you can and try to have fun with it. Life is hard enough. By the way, playing something in an easier position is actually smarter, in my rule book.
There's always an easier way to play those Killer 80's songs . I have been doing it since the late 80's and it's helped my playing and on stage performance . Thanks and do more please especially some Dokken , Lynch is my Guitar Hero ever since Tooth & Nail !!
Sounds good. You have a great attitude too. Thanks for helping to keep the amazing music from that era alive like it deserves. An absolutely underrated era and underrated genre, “hair metal”. Call them what you want but all the bands you mentioned are legends and changed the landscape of rock and roll for the better forever. Long live 80’s metal 🤘🏻
There's a slight difference in timbre between the two ways shown here. It comes down to preference, really. Playing the barre chord style sounds "chunkier," or "meatier," while playing the riff with the open chord sounds "brighter." I personally prefer the meatier sound, but would probably play the riff in the open chord style live as it's more efficient; especially if you're singing while playing.
Stumbled across your video kind of by accident. I’m glad I did. Very cool stuff. Good for you brother. I play in a GnR tribute band in Dallas called Rocket Queen DFW. You’re always gonna have the haters, but you’re always going to have the chicks too. And that’s what I’m after the chicks. Keep doing what you’re doing bro. Cheers
Cool lesson Bobby, Ty. You r definitely very talented to play both ends of the spectrum n so many excellent cover bands ! God bless you n keep up the great work your doing. You never have to work a day in the life if your doing what you truly love n we’re born to do!
Explained like a true musician. I think a lot of players forget about octaves and that they are in multiple places on the neck. I put up a cover video of this song and I always played it like Warren did. But as you stated, even Warren doesn't play it the same every show he does. To be honest, I totally forgot about that other position on the neck where it can be played and it's literally the same notes, same chords, just different position. I can see where playing it that way makes it much easier to sing as well. Also, one other key thing said here is make it your own. I humbly agree.
Great riff and who'd of thunk it? Never tried it in that position but it sounds good.Love that guitar too the first time I saw snakeskin was on Randy's guitar strap.I miss those days back in the 80s because we just don't get the same euphoria off music we got off bands and guitar players we did back then. These riffs and songs will never die.
Great video, love your sound! Before I could play it well doing the stretch I learned it open and that's how I still play it. Easier and sounds perfect to my ears and I don't flub any notes like I sometimes do playing it the Warren way. I don't really care about note for note...I get it for some songs you have to be damn close but I never worry about being perfect because I'm not really capable of that and less than perfect is rock n roll..human beings not a machines
I was 16 when Invasion of Your Privacy came out & was in a band. Back then I had to rewind tapes, listen with headphones and really take time to breakdown leads or in this case a riff. I knew it was drop D from previously learning about that tuning cover VH songs from Fair Warning and also Ratts Lack of Communication. So learning by ear and a little from the MTV video back then, I played it pretty much like DeMartini played it.
Love the vid. Great philosophy !! Side Note. I was lucky enough back in the day to see RATT open for Ozzy on the Bark at the Moon Tour 83. Great Show. Got to see RATT in their prime, AND Jake E Lee with Tommy Aldridge on drums. That was a Smoking show !!~ I'm with you. Do what works for you. As long as it sounds right. 1000 %
Ramble on and on...I love it..this is a really good educational informative video.every time you strum that guitar it reminds me of that ratt song ,,,the morning after...love that intro into that song.and your guitar sound really nails that sound to perfection.i had a friend growing up that nailed the ratt sound .he would tune to the album exactly, and would play every last nite identical without mistep along with the album.non stop each side..with his amp slightly louder which forced people who didn't like or listen to ratt to hear the beauty and brilliance of the guitars on the albums.you heard it in ways you never had .I would listen for hours .ratt is my best alltime favorite to play along tuned with band....
Up in the middle of the night, here in Yokohama. Yup Japan! Grew up in the 80’s in Honolulu Hi…. Was a Headbangers ball fan back in the late 80’s. Doing random searches for Poison, Ratt, and Crue stuff, you popped up. Cool stuff! ( was/ kind of still am a bass player. No gigging now though. Just on the couch or studio jams with co-workers.) Thanks, hope to see your bands once we can safely travel back to the states. Aloha! Paul.
too right! even though I can play it both ways I learnt it in what you call your way first and it's far more comfortable than the Warren way. Warren is great, but some of the stretches he does are insane and very uncomfortable if you don't have massive fingers and can easily result in unnecessary mistakes. So cool video, well done
i dont have the talent for musical instruments, but i can say trying to keep up with warren & robin would present a challenge.in there day, they were on top of their game.NO DOUBTS!!! i love old ratt music.
I was born in 83' but I geek out to the Hair Metal! You mentioned being in a RATT and Dokken tribute bands...both George and Warren are my 2 Favorite! You earned a subscribe from the first video
I get it. I used to get crap when I was in bands, because I always played covers the way I wanted to play them. At the end of the day none of the guys who talked crap could even come close to me as a lead guitarist. For haters. They were always there watching. 😂
It was always said that warren had basketball player hands so the stretch was not difficult for him so all the average dudes had to find an easier way to play his riffs! Nice job replicating the notes!
Sounds great to me either way. I'm not a pro guitarist so I can't judge. If it sounds the same and it works then roll with it. If they can't tell then why should you. I got me the black with red trim b.c. rich warlock avenge series tuned in drop D. I got me mooer GE100 multi effects processor and a peavey rage 158 transtube series Amp. That's whatt I got to work with. I would like to be able to ay classic riffs like that some day.
Warren Demartini absolute LEGEND, He will go down in history someday as one of the best to ever play guitar LEGEND.
Ratt had a distinct sound..great fucking band..Warren is criminally underrated!!!
Big respect to all the tribute bands out there keeping our favorite music alive!
Excellent. Hey. The true sign of a professional ,,,, is his creativity. And ability to improvise and sound awesome. Rick on have fun. Thanks

I get it. I used to get crap when I was in bands, because I always played covers the way I wanted to play them. At the end of the day none of the guys who talked crap could even come close to me as a lead guitarist. For haters. They were always there watching. 😂
"I cover Warren Demartini"...Lol, that's the nicest way of saying "I'm pretending to be somebody else".
I Feel you Man! It's Just a Great Feeling Doing You while Still Looking Like a Professional Rock Star! You Have it!!! 💯🤘
This guy ain't Warren, but he sure the fuck is a rocker. Even if he didn't play guitar.
PS BTW Eddie Van H's Favorite Guitarist was ALLAN HOLDSWORTH....Ever heard any of HIS playing?.....Not too many "power chords" there either
Great job. Thanks brother 🍻
Glad I found this video. You explained everything nicely.
It was always said that warren had basketball player hands so the stretch was not difficult for him so all the average dudes had to find an easier way to play his riffs! Nice job replicating the notes!
Brilliant dude and great tips and being real. We are only ourselves and we aren’t actually the person we are trying to be!
