    Ratt was my favorite band along with Dokken back in the day. This music was fun and then along came the 90s and teenagers decided it was more fun to be depressed. I miss these days.

Hartford Connecticut. The bill: Ratt, Lita Ford and Twisted Sister. I was 16 and dragging stage equipment. One of my greatest memories. And the band? Awesome. Cordial, cool as ever and respectful to us. Even a snot faced kid like me. Dee Snider was a tool and Lita Ford was the biggest douche I've ever met. Sorry, I get going when Ratt is the subject.

    The vocals seem to have an ATD (automatic double tracking) which is a sort of chorus effect that makes them sound a bit fuller. Probably they were trying to match the record a bit better. That's probably why people believe it's playback.
    If you check those Ozzy videos from the Diary of a Madman live shows that emerged recently... the ones with Brad Gillis, the effect is even more pronounced and it gives it all away...
    To me Ratt will always be the best glam metal band. They never wrote format ballads or songs that were too cliche'... alway full of tension and blues!

    Robbin is the underrated one here!! And people who say he's shit go and listen to his early recordings with Mac Meda, Secret Service and the Ratt EP (of which he wrote 90% of the riffs). He was a fantastic (actually somewhat blues based) guitarist who played with a lot of heart. Warren DeMartini definitely got all the recoqnition as being THE guitarist for Ratt in all the guitar mags back in the day but to any real Ratt fan you simply can't deny Robbin's part in this band.

      I agree totally with you I miss the soul of robbin I had the chance to see them in 88 and meet them I was a kid back then 14 but he took the time to talk to a young guitar player I was more into Robbins bluesy style.

    • @Rockshredder
      @Rockshredder 9 лет назад +5

      +Robin Hage I was always curious if Robbin wrote most of the riffs? I haven't heard the same cool riffs since Robbin died. I think that if this was the case, he undervalued what he was to the band. R.I.P. Robin. Stephen said that he couldn't play anymore which is why he couldn't tour with Ratt but from this clip, he could still play.

    • @Rockshredder
      @Rockshredder 8 лет назад +1

      Hmm, I actually made a mistake. I didn't mean this clip, I meant the one where he is in the studio with Juan at the controls. I didn't think that he played badly. I know this is a very early Ratt performance so this is not the clip I was referring to.

    • @anodizingstatic
      @anodizingstatic 8 лет назад +11

      +Robin Hage Robbin definitely wrote stuff...but when it comes to pure soloing, there is no comparison. Warren was so technically advanced and flawless for his time, the level of skill is insane. Robbin basically just played pentatonic runs in this video, it's just not that impressive when you compare them to DeMartini's spontaneity.. I don't think "underrated" is the correct term. Perhaps "underknown", but even then Ratt as a whole was a highly successful band and they all had their place in the mid 80s.

    • @MichaelDouglasSkewes
      @MichaelDouglasSkewes 3 года назад +4

      Yeah,and it was out, someone wanted a Rhoads Jackson V with dots. And was immediately after Randy was gone,I know the guy ,it was going to have stars instead of dots. It eventually went to Sandoval . Anyway , the double Rhoads was perfect for Robin Crosby, and Robin wanted to call it the King, no one in Motley Crue has a signature model . But Robin got this ,right when Nikki got a Hamer ,so Vinnie Vincent was actually an amazing player in the WRONG band ,KISS ,but he was the first to have the Rhoads model, which as his ego grew after KISS ,he wanted a VV guitar! So,there are people out there ,and mustsine ACTUALLY wanton Washburn to get a smaller guitar made, and it was all his,no first designer ,like Robin . I do wish they would have named it the RC or Crosby V . But,also,because he has gone, Robin was the main writer and lead player for Mickey Ratt,or Ratt ,even with Jake E lump in th band . And when Warren got in,he had that George Lynch ripping off Eddie Van Halen look ,but not style, he was just .a good player ,and the more smack Robin was taking,the drug ,he was becoming just a rythym player, and he was not around enough to cement the name with the gui tar. It is sad,Robin was a nice guy,and talented! And i think 6'7" ,which was 3 inches taller then me,it was strange to see someone that tall,most guys in band are midgets !

    I’ve always thought that Stephen sounded like White Trash in Interviews but his voice was rocking back in ‘84. Warren was saturated with natural talent and Robin played counterpoint yet was great too. Of course the circumstances of Robin’s passing were incredibly tragic. Years later I saw the recently reformed RATT in a small club in NYC and they were rusty and Stephen insulted the audience as if we weren’t worthy of his presence. Legends Rise but they Fall too. Undercover cop stepped in through the window while they were 'partying.' It was the neighbors that told me about it because all those guy were all busted and in jail. Shoo!

      That's because Ratt kind of screwed themselves by dropping their semi-punk edge and going pure glam. There next album, Invasion of your privacy , was just loaded with filler. A lot of bands made that mistake in the 80s. Poison and Cinderella started as complete Glam and immediately were morphing out by the next album. That is why they actually did better. Ratt had good song writers that could have defined the genre, rather than just ride it. "Nobody rides for free" was a return back to their more semi-punkish roots. The tempo and the riffs needed one more tweak to be a little less generic but the lyrics are traditional RATT kick ass. Overall, the song was an awesome piece of work. Warren is a really complex guitarists who has strong blues roots.

      +Johnny Marlin I was hugely in to this scene (I was in a band myself and ran rock/metal nights at a local club). But looking back I don't think grunge ruined it. I think it ruined itself. It lost direction and was just rehashing itself. Every single MTV video looked the same, every band started to look the same. There's only so long people can keep dancing to the same tune. It had it's time and it was awesome while it lasted, but if you look at some of the dross being churned out toward the end of the period, it's no wonder people tired of it and new kids coming along started seeing it as old fashioned. As a rock metal DJ I saw as people start to drift away as they got older. It ran its course.

But the problem is time goes on. You think its not, but it is, like standing on the beach near the water line and when the wave comes in around your ankles and feet, it sucks some of the sand out from underneath you. You are doing nothing, but its happening. Did you see Pearcy in that new GEICO commercial "Ratt Problem'? Check it out on RUclips. You will see him looking like a Grandpa trying to front a metal band. Pretty sad. Lots of people with awesome jobs dont know when to walk away. Muhhamed Ali in 1976. Hugh Hefner in his 90s in his pajamas with a sailor hat on. Tom Brady after he won 6 rings and could have gone out on top. Nope: these people all wanted to stay so they rode down the other side of the hill. Hell, Ratt doesn't have any original band members left in it besides the lead singer. Their one guitarist that just quit a few days ago? Born in 1984. Yeah, its done.

    Big RATT fan. I’m the Old School and saw them 6 times live in concert from the very beginning at that time. Yeah, Out of the Cellar is an 80’s classic! Saw that tour! Later in their career, after they peaked and were playing in smaller clubs, I found out 15:20 15:20 that they were playing a bar in my town. RATT!? In a BAR? Of course I was there. The thing that stands out about this is that the club had a round bar with the whole bar top and the seats around it rotated slowly. As soon as I walked in, I saw that and sat at the bar. I was waiting for Round and Round! Ha Ha! I HAD to be at the bar going around while they sang it! That happened, unforgettable! I remember I’m Insane being a highlight too. That was a cool, fun show. You can’t plan stuff like that!
    I even went by myself and had a blast! One of my favorite Rock memories. I mean, come on, can you imagine them in a bar?
    I was sitting there getting sloshed, listening to RATT live and going around in circles! People would pay serious money for that experience these days. Too cool. Way Cool Jr!

    My first concert was RATT opening for Billy Squier in 1984. BLEW ME AWAY. Had a guitar by Christmas.

      RATT opening for Billy Squier must have been before that bedroom dance video he released, LOL.
      Oh wait, look, that's around exactly the same time, and the Wikipedia article talks about it, mentioning RATT and quoting comments on it by Warren.
