Another great list! The 70s were really a fascinating decade. Women in horror were all about empowerment. The men, it seems, were left to struggle against evil or get revenge. Again, great video!

Hey Bryn. The lists are getting hard now 😂 I love Blacula, a really good vampire with a commanding presence. Peter/Ken Foree in DOTD, pretty badass. Quint, ICONIC just for the USS Indianapolis speech alone. “Y’know, the thing about a shark, he’s got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll’s eyes”

It's getting hard to pick just 10, haha! I like Blacula too. Apparently, during the USS Indianapolis scene, Richard Dreyfuss was genuinely in awe of Shaw's acting presence!

Very happy to see Magic getting a mention. SUCH a good film and I'm not sure a lot of people have seen it. I think it might also be my favourite Anthony Hopkins performance as well. Dr Phibes is a phenomenal character; I'm amazed that there weren't more than 2 movies. When I was a kid I paused the video when he takes his mask off, I put some tracing paper over the TV screen and traced out a picture of his face. Of course this was very pre-internet!

Fantastic picks Bryn. I've never heard of magic lol. Peter Cushing is absolutely amazing. Camille Kenton was a fantastic pick. Dr. Phibes is such a fun character. Quint is the type of person who comes across as a mean character. Underneath i think he uses it as a defense mechanism. I really believe that he has a heart of gold. Ellen Ripley is a great pick. Loomis is actually mean and sarcastic, but I love the dynamic of his character. Leatherface is an interesting character. I definitely agree about Carrie. Cool pick for number one. Such a tragic character.

You're so right about the Tales From the Crypt segment starring Cushing. The picture in the movie is of his own wife who died not long before the movie was made.Dr Loomis changed from part 4 to 6.He became almost insane. The character from a 70s movie who gave me the creeps is the serial killer from :10 Rillington Place played by Richard Attenborough ( cast against type)

    • @horrorhands879

I was actually going to suggest on the first episode of the series that Loomis should make the list, but I decided to wait until you got to the 70's before adding suggestions. So glad you agree! Also, EVERY other pick is on point, my man. Like you said, it does help to have better characters to pick from in that era. Awesome video can't wait to see the 80's episode!

Another awesome episode from a great series, really enjoying them mate. Again a really great choice of movies and characters. The puppet movie with Anthony Hopkins was a very different movie, quite creepy but brilliant. I was going to mention the Peter Cushing episode about his wife dying just before the movie was done and the photo of her in the movie but someone beat me to it. This makes you appreciate more of what an amazing actor he was, going through all that and still producing such a great performance. What an absolute legend he was. A great job mate as always 👏👏👏

I totally agree with all the superlatives you used to describe Peter Cushing's awesome performance as Arthur Grimsdyke. Definitely one of his greatest, most memorable performances. An absolute classic story in the horror anthology genre - and such a heart-wrenching, unforgettable one too. And yes, you are so right about that scene where Grimsdyke's rotted corpse comes back to exact his revenge on that slimey toe rag neighbour of his. Wow, absolutely fantastic! I would also echo your equally laudatory sentiments on Vincent Price's awesome performance as Dr Phibes, although I did prefer the first Phibes film over the disappointing sequel. And as regards Fats the ventriloquist dummy in Magic - yes, again, another cool horror character you chose there! I actually have the novel of Magic too. Regarding your Number 1 choice, well, I have to say, I was so near the mark there in my prediction of what that might be, because I was right that it would pertain to The Exorcist, although I did get the character wrong, as I assumed you might have picked Reagan herself. Having said that, though, Father Merrin was certainly a great alternative choice! Another superb video in this new series, Bryn. Really enjoyed watching. Looking forward to your 80s picks.

The epic saga of Bryn continues. Glad to see Phibes on here. Dr. Phibes is not only my favorite Vincent Price character, but Dr. Phibes Rises Again is my favorite Price film. As to my list, off the top of my head, Peter from Dawn of the Dead would have been on there. Martin from Martin, perhaps. Maggot Eye from Zombie II.

Great list, with some real unexpected choices Sir. Quint, Fats and Leatherface all almost made my list but alas I love British horror movies from the 1970s and thus my list breaks any sort of impartiality when it comes to this decade.
For what it’s worth here goes nothing (as usual there’s no order but at least I actually chose ten this time and not eleven like the 60s list) :
Dorothy Yates (Sheila Keith) - Frightmare
Emily Underwood (Angela Pleasence) - From Beyond the Grave
Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee) - The Wickerman
Dr Anton Phibes (Vincent Price) - Abominable and Rises Again
Tom (Oliver Reed) - Blue Blood
Angel Blake (Linda Hayden) - Blood on Satan’s Claw
Neal Mottram (Jack Palance) - Craze
Edward Lionheart (Vincent Price) - Theatre of Blood
Waldemar Daninsky (Paul Naschy) - Several werewolf films from the decade.
Santo (Santo) - Several wrestling movies with monsters from the decade.

Ahh don't worry about the ventriloquist dummy being a character, a 'character' can be near enough anything... Gotham City in every Batman story ever told is my go to example for non sentient 'characters' in stories. Fats is a lot more human than an entire city, lol.
Great list, as usual... plenty to choose from this decade, the second Hollywood Golden Age was in full effect by this time and there was so much experimentation. I'm a little bit obsessed with Nicolas Roeg movies at the moment, so Donald Sutherland as John Baxter (Don't Look Now) for me. Plus Corvin and Hammond from Fulci's A Lizard in a Woman's Skin.
