…it also highlights how ridiculously stupid the latest gen nascar cup car is. All that money to build bland race cars when you know they could have built something where full throttle is too much for the car.
The corvette IS amazing but it shows how good engineering is these days. It’s not bland. (I’ll admit stylistically I’m not into it so much. The sixties and early seventies were great looking vettes but the razor-cuts styling ain’t my cup o’ tea. That’s part of why dodge’s efforts have been successful- they look like they’re retro cuz they are.
I do understand a vette is primarily a sports car by tradition but I’d like something more car-like. Still a fan of these corvettes the last ten years, though.

I own a 405 HP C5 Vette which has a ton of excitement in every ride. I don’t race it, try to stay within the speed limit and would still enjoy it with a 6 cylinder of 200 HP engine. I drive it around 800 miles a year as I have a pickup truck as my daily driver. This Corvette was on this old man’s bucket list since I was 16 years old. In my mid 50’s I could finally afford it. Now in my 70’s I just enjoy looking at it. Looking at this 1064 HP model I can’t wonder what I’d need all that horsepower for. Today I wonder how many people with money are mature enough to have something like this.

The C4 ZR-1 was a supercar, one of the fastest production cars at the time. The C5 base was as fast, because of better intake and fuel injection. The C6 was a little faster until the 427 ci models. Then the C7 ZR-1. The C8 Z06 couldn't compete with a McLaren 765LT... it would be interesting to see if the ZR-1 can get enough power to the ground to compete. Even so, a race will be close, much closer than the difference in price.

The C4 ZR1 was a monster back in the 90s. That car was no joke. 4 Cam 32 Valve DOHC LT5 engine that will rev to the moon. It was eating cars left and right back then and best of all, it was Naturally Aspirated. GM's first-ever King Of The Hill top of the top Corvette. And now, I see the same spirit in the C8 ZR1. The King has returned once more.
