@@Howdy762 the point is it was done. The idea that it wasn’t “mass produced” is about half true. You could order a Callaway Corvette from the dealership at an additional cost. General Motors signed off on collaboration meaning; they approved. The “Hammer” which was a premium example and the car that set the record was driven from Connecticut to the track in Ohio and back demonstrating that it wasn’t “test bed” for somerhing else it was the actual production car with AC and all the creature comforts. Corvette did it first and a corvette did it best. There is absolutely no goddamned reason that a C5, 6, 7 couldn’t achieve those speeds or greater. All of those cars have a low enough drag co-efficient that would make it possible. The only major obstacles are cooling and tires that can handle those speeds. Having a 260 or 270 MPH corvette is sufficient to hang with the likes of SSC, Hennessy, Or a Koeniggsegg. And besides Corvette has Track cred. None of those cars do.
Man everybody seems to have an issue with the speed limit like they are going to go over 215 mph 🤣. Maybe that makes no sense maybe they wanted a harder acceleration and have no need for that speed or gearing making a more usable 215 vs having slower acceleration especially in a world of EV and hybrids. This car kind of is giving the finger to the competition is a raw form and I for one can’t wait to see it bring euro supercars and even hypercars to their knees once again for less money.

What is truly wild, apart from the entire car, this car uses 76mm-67mm Twin Turbos. A simple tune (once the ECU is unlocked 🤦) will be capable of belting out well, well over 1800bhp. The fact it has Port injection will allow simple injector swap to get there. I don't even know how this car exists, and I'm so happy that it does. What a magnificent job by Chevy.

Wow! Very well said! This is peak internal combustion engine tech on display. Jay Leno always says that engineers will save the world. Well we have some amazing engineers who are saving the internal combustion engine. To have all this performance, run on pump gas, be reliable at all speeds and pass emissions must have caused many sleepless nights. This car represents a moment in history and although this is the first reveal I feel like this car is already a legend. Well done GM. Well done. We have the Hennessey F5, the Mustang GTD and now this Corvette ZR1. American is ready to play!
@frost6916 don't be so sure. Displacement in miata swaps matters a lot less than whether it's OHV or OHC. It's easier to fit a 7.0 liter LS7 into any generation of Miata than a 5.0 liter Coyote because the OHC motors are just too damn wide

It took 8 generations, (71 years) but Corvette has finally made its first real SuperCar. To me they always nudged the edge of a Sports Car and SuperCar, but for the C8 ZR1, it's undeniably a SuperCar. When the C8 was first shown off back in 2020, I fell in love with the platform and design immediately. I have been chomping at the bit for the ZR1 to come out, and now it has. This thing is truly amazing for a US manufacturer to create. Thank full it doesn't look like a typical US manufactured SuperCar. It's not "big" for "big" sakes. It's not "over powered" for "over powered" sakes. Everything looks and sounds like it has a purpose. The design language looks right. It's uniform, no random drop offs. Amazing angles, and aggressive lines. Great job Corvette for joining the SuperCar world.
No hybrid and pushing over 1k hp is insane, was expecting na hybrid for the zr1, didn't expect tt, but now they have options for more models, na hybrid and tt hybrid

I’ve been driving and racing Corvettes since 1983. I still own my firsts one a C2 Coup. I’ve owned 8 now. It’s nice to see Corvette step up into the supercar world. I always had to modify my Vettes to get the performance to beat the European cars. I’m glad GM isn’t messing around now. For performance for value the Corvette rules. Zora would be proud.

@@imamfn If you're driving on a track and on a straight line with traffic lights, the battery management system takes care of charge levels of the hybrid battery. It's a general misconception, that during normal driving the batteries will get drained and it only adds weight.

There are a lot of first ever, first mid engine vette then first vette with flat plane crank and now first ever corvette to be turbocharged. 61 years later and we finally get another split rear window… I don’t believe that any Vette can ever be as beautiful as the 1963 split-window Sting Ray, but the split-window works for this C8 ZR-1 and is a nice salute to the 63 model. I’m a GM fan but I still feel compelled to say that if GM put half the effort and dedication that they put into the Vette into every other model that they make then they would be unstoppable worldwide.

Not really. Chevy has a reputation which they've earned. They make solid trucks, mediocre/average SUV's, and really solid sports cars (generally speaking). Everyone knows that a Corvette is a phenomenal bang-for-buck. It'll outperform most cars that cost 2-5x as much as it does. All you're going to sacrifice is looks and a bit of class (and your interior will be pretty mediocre).

The 37 lb of thrust from the exhaust is a silly stat to quote, but to put it in perspective the GMA T.50 fan only produces 33 lb of thrust . . . that engine is pumping some serious air!

The Zora is coming. People just photographed a test C8 in camo wrapping on the Nurburgring Norschleife that has the ZR1 wing but the e-Ray cooling vents to cool down the battery.
I could only imagine how much power this will really make once the tuners get their hands on this thing. I’m predicting maybe 1200-1500hp. Like I’m already imagining this thing going up against the koenisegg’s and the Bugattis alread.
2 gallons a minute... wow. Stats are crazy on this corvette! Super nice build over all and way better looking than the older 1997-2013 corvettes that needed to be saved from design. Those years had a hard time going from the stingray to a fatter rounder body to morphing into this beast! Now I can die in peace, thank you.
Not only is that a lot of horsepower, its precisely one more than the AMG Project 1. If they'd even halfway worked on the aero... I can't imagine what Chevrolet could have done with that. They instead remembered the customer. This thing is sick.
The AMG ONE is an actually absurd car. Not as in performance, but in terms of the compromises to make the premise of an "F1 engine for the street" work. It actually doesn't. As kinetic art it's impressive, as a road vehicle it's a failure.

You could order a Callaway Corvette from the dealership at an additional cost. General Motors signed off on collaboration meaning; they approved. The “Hammer” which was a premium example and the car that set the record was driven from Connecticut to the track in Ohio and back demonstrating that it wasn’t “test bed” for somerhing else it was the actual production car with AC and all the creature comforts. Corvette did it first and a corvette did it best.
There is absolutely no goddamned reason that a C5, 6, 7 couldn’t achieve those speeds or greater. All of those cars have a low enough drag co-efficient that would make it possible.
The only major obstacles are cooling and tires that can handle those speeds.
Having a 260 or 270 MPH corvette is sufficient to hang with the likes of SSC, Hennessy, Or a Koeniggsegg. And besides Corvette has Track cred. None of those cars do.
Man everybody seems to have an issue with the speed limit like they are going to go over 215 mph 🤣. Maybe that makes no sense maybe they wanted a harder acceleration and have no need for that speed or gearing making a more usable 215 vs having slower acceleration especially in a world of EV and hybrids. This car kind of is giving the finger to the competition is a raw form and I for one can’t wait to see it bring euro supercars and even hypercars to their knees once again for less money.

Just a V8 and twin turbos making 1000hp. No complicated powertrain. Refreshingly nice.
What is truly wild, apart from the entire car, this car uses 76mm-67mm Twin Turbos. A simple tune (once the ECU is unlocked 🤦) will be capable of belting out well, well over 1800bhp.
The fact it has Port injection will allow simple injector swap to get there. I don't even know how this car exists, and I'm so happy that it does. What a magnificent job by Chevy.

Well we have some amazing engineers who are saving the internal combustion engine. To have all this performance, run on pump gas, be reliable at all speeds and pass emissions must have caused many sleepless nights. This car represents a moment in history and although this is the first reveal I feel like this car is already a legend. Well done GM. Well done.

@frost6916 don't be so sure. Displacement in miata swaps matters a lot less than whether it's OHV or OHC. It's easier to fit a 7.0 liter LS7 into any generation of Miata than a 5.0 liter Coyote because the OHC motors are just too damn wide

It's basically what the original 3 hypercars were but better. So how is it not a hypercar? I guess I'll entertain your stupid comment by stating that the Tesla plaid is a one trick pony that can be bought for less than $100k. It cannot turn, brake or even run on plaid mode for very long. It's the furthest thing from a hypercar besides it's HP.

I will say, I’ve not had a dream car for a long time. I honestly didn’t even like the looks of the c8 vette. But this just became my dream car.
It took 8 generations, (71 years) but Corvette has finally made its first real SuperCar. To me they always nudged the edge of a Sports Car and SuperCar, but for the C8 ZR1, it's undeniably a SuperCar.
When the C8 was first shown off back in 2020, I fell in love with the platform and design immediately. I have been chomping at the bit for the ZR1 to come out, and now it has. This thing is truly amazing for a US manufacturer to create.
Thank full it doesn't look like a typical US manufactured SuperCar. It's not "big" for "big" sakes. It's not "over powered" for "over powered" sakes. Everything looks and sounds like it has a purpose.
The design language looks right. It's uniform, no random drop offs. Amazing angles, and aggressive lines.

I’ve been driving and racing Corvettes since 1983. I still own my firsts one a C2 Coup. I’ve owned 8 now. It’s nice to see Corvette step up into the supercar world. I always had to modify my Vettes to get the performance to beat the European cars. I’m glad GM isn’t messing around now. For performance for value the Corvette rules. Zora would be proud.

@@imamfn If you're driving on a track and on a straight line with traffic lights, the battery management system takes care of charge levels of the hybrid battery. It's a general misconception, that during normal driving the batteries will get drained and it only adds weight.

61 years later and we finally get another split rear window… I don’t believe that any Vette can ever be as beautiful as the 1963 split-window Sting Ray, but the split-window works for this C8 ZR-1 and is a nice salute to the 63 model. I’m a GM fan but I still feel compelled to say that if GM put half the effort and dedication that they put into the Vette into every other model that they make then they would be unstoppable worldwide.

Not really. Chevy has a reputation which they've earned. They make solid trucks, mediocre/average SUV's, and really solid sports cars (generally speaking). Everyone knows that a Corvette is a phenomenal bang-for-buck. It'll outperform most cars that cost 2-5x as much as it does. All you're going to sacrifice is looks and a bit of class (and your interior will be pretty mediocre).

The 37 lb of thrust from the exhaust is a silly stat to quote, but to put it in perspective the GMA T.50 fan only produces 33 lb of thrust . . . that engine is pumping some serious air!

Not only is that a lot of horsepower, its precisely one more than the AMG Project 1. If they'd even halfway worked on the aero... I can't imagine what Chevrolet could have done with that. They instead remembered the customer. This thing is sick.
The AMG ONE is an actually absurd car. Not as in performance, but in terms of the compromises to make the premise of an "F1 engine for the street" work. It actually doesn't. As kinetic art it's impressive, as a road vehicle it's a failure.
