Long time watcher, first time writer. Completely agree - I too am a Jason guy, but Freddy ruled the 80s. Even on kid’s lunch boxes. Also, love your dad’s busts, he’s a talented man.
I didn't expect you to choose Peter Vincent, I'm so glad you did, I love the character, the actor and the film. I do like Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen) in Pumpkinhead, such a tortured character, and the duo of David Kessler/Jack Goodman (David Naughton/Griffin Dunne) in American Werewolf in London
Hi Bryn. Yes, I would say Freddy ruled the 80s and or a true 80s Icon. I love David and Jack from American Werewolf, such a great friendship with “I’m sorry I called you Meatloaf Jack” one of my favorite lines ever. And shout out to Tom Atkins as Ray Cameron in Night of the Creeps - “Thrill Me”!!!
Thanks, Film Wolf. A few people have suggested David and Jack - and yes, that line is fantastic! Oooh, great suggestion with Ray Cameron - Thrill Me!!!!
Yes! Freddy Krueger is no 1 of all time imo. Glad he made the top of your 80s list. I'd have also added Christine from Christine to the list. Love that movie.
Ooh, you've got my heckles up here, Bryn. Haha. Pinhead was one of those characters that everyone seemed to know and be able to name, even if they'd not seen the movie. For a character who had less than 5 mins of screen time in the original movie, he is absolutely iconic. "Your suffering will be legendary, even in hell!" Cheers Bryn, love your work (but I am willing to fight you over Pinhead not being your #1 :) )
He definitely has one of the most iconic looks ever, and Doug Bradley's line delivery is exquisite! To be honest, I wouldn't complain much if he was #1 on the list ;) Thanks, Cliff!
The hardest decade in terms of choice. God I miss that period so much! It’s also the first decade where the classic stars like Christopher Lee, Vincent Price and Peter Cushing step down. I’d have probably chosen Ash from the Evil Dead films, Jack Nicholson in The Shining, Rutger Haur in The Hitcher, and the underrated performance from Lori Cardille as Dr Bowman in The Day of the Dead movie (very strong female character that rivals Helen Ripley and Sarah Connor).
Bill Paxton as the psycho vampire in Near Dark.Dee Wallace in Cujo, Robert Forster as the cop in Alligator.Chris Sarandon is incredible in Fright Night.I love dogs that's why i also include Nanook from The Lost Boys and Thor from Bad Moon
Awesome list mate and i agree with everyone of them but for me it will always be Ash williams (al though you can put Ash in the 70s,80s,90s and 2000s ). Also stooge from night of the demons, have an awesome weekend mate
Hi Bryn Another awesome list mate. And you are right the greatest decade. Top picks mate. One I would add is Lori cardille who plays Dr sarah bowman in the Day Of The dead. Brilliant performance from Lori Cardille. Cheers mate
Some really good picks here, buddy! can't argue any of 'em...but once again you threw me a curve,..thought for sure Mac would be #1. I think I might have to place Catriona MaColl somewhere in my top list. Enjoyed the vid, Bryn..lookin' forward to the next. Cheers!
Keep up your good work HH. Always look forward to your vids. I think you would make a good tv horror movie host like Peter Vincent. You denfinitly have the horror movie knowledge!
I've just watched your last two videos back to back, (A HorrorHands double-feature if you will). Cracking lists. These must be incredibly difficult to put together, especially the 1980's as there's so many choices with only ten spaces to fill. Can't fault your choices here, (I might have picked Michael Myers over Dr Loomis in your 70s list) but if I was to alter anything I'd probably add Jack Torrence from "The Shining" myself. Loving this series Bryn, great content 👌
What a great double bill, haha! 😅 Thanks for watching, mate. Yes, there were so many great characters in the 80s. I really was torn between Michael and Loomis. Jack Torrence almost made my list. Thanks again, Tom 👍
Amazing video Brynn!, great list of of horror characters. Me personally would have Jeff Goldblum Seth Brundle - The Fly, Robert Z Dar Matt Courdell - Maniac Cop, Andrew Divoff - Wishmaster, David The Lost Boys. But yes gotta have Jason Voorhees there, iconic and Robert England Freddy Kruger just classic horror figures. Thanks for the cool video Brynn. 👍🆒✌
That wily young HorrorHands does it again. More common ground than I would expected with Hudson, Vincent, and MacReady on the list. Some bold, outside the box, choices as well. I appreciate that. I can imagine how tough it was to narrow this one down. I gave it a bit of thought. I know my list would have included Spider from Sorority Babes. Maybe Daffy from Gremlins 2. Jack Chandler from Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers.
Fantastic list Bryn. I didn't know Nancy was your favorite final girl. That's cool. Chucky is a cool character based originally on Robert the doll. Bill Paxton was a great actor. All of the characters were great in the thing. Kurt is definitely the best. Doug Bradley seems like a nice person. Love him as pinhead. Yes!!! Great pick with Peter Vincent. Chris Sarandon is one of my favorite vampires. The frog bros. are iconic. Jason had to make the list. Freddy is a good pick for number one.
Thanks so much, Jason. I loved Bill Paxton in everything he was in. Was lucky enough to meet Doug Bradley several years ago and he was really nice. I'm glad someone else likes Chris Sarandon as a vampire too :)
Hey Bryn, Great video! I will say that I am not too keen on 1980's horror movies. I did like Fright Night and was glad to see those characters on here! I just really like the older, classical horror movies!
Great List Bryn! Man! The 80s would be so tough for me to choose. So Many Great Characters. For Sure I’d have Dr. Loomis, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Tom Atkins.
Great list, HorrorHands. I think at the top of my list would be the now forgotten Henry (Michael Rooker). Maybe that character was either too far behind or too far ahead of the times for the 1980s.
Here’s MY favourite characters from 1980s horror. Ones that always made me laugh or helped improve the movie they were in. They may not be the most iconic but I don’t care about that because they are some of my personal faves. I will have missed loads out and be kicking myself tomorrow when I think of others, plus I really wanted to choose Snake Plissken and Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth from Blue Velvet, who is hands down one of the craziest, scariest villains from any movie of the 80s, but you in both cases you could argue the movies they were in weren’t strictly horror films. Ash (Bruce Campbell) Evil Dead 2 Col. Vincent Kane (Stacy Keach) The Ninth Configuration Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) The Shining Dr. Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) Re-Animator Col. Frank Hawkes (Jack Palance) Alone in the Dark Capt. Henry Rhodes (Joseph Pilato) Day of the Dead Derek (Peter Jackson) Bad Taste Tony (Bobby Rhodes) Demons Chucky (Brad Dourif) Child’s Play Det. Ray Cameron (Tom Atkins) Night of the Creeps
Fantastic list, Cliff. Snake Plissken is one of my favourite characters in any movie. OMG! My original list had Tony from Demons on it! But I took him off to include Chucky.
Yeah, Friday is like a fast food franchise lol! Simple and satisfying! And I agree that Fright Night is the greatest popcorn horror. Sarandon is brilliant! I think I agree that he’s the best vampire ever. I love Chucky and Freddie. I’m rewatching New Nightmare today. All the Elm Street movies leave Netflix on June 20th. I’ve only seen The Lost Boys once so far. I remember The Frog Brothers were great. Great vid! 👍🏻🎥🎥🎥🎥🎥🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
Hi Bryn, sorry but Jason will always be THE MAN for me. Just wish we could get a new film. U haven't heard about anything coming soon? Freddy Kruger has some cool lines. He has made me laugh quite a few times. Thanks for the video
Same for me! Jason has always been my favourite slasher villain - but I gotta give Freddy props as I think he has slightly more personality. Thanks for watching :)
My 10 Favourite Horror Characters of the 1980s : 'Jack Goodman' Griffin Dunne AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981) 'R.J. MacReady' Kurt Russell THE THING (1982) 'Henry Northrup' Hal Holbrook CREEPSHOW (1982) 'Arnie Cunningham' Keith Gordon CHRISTINE (1983) 'Freddy Krueger' Robert Englund A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984) 'Jerry Dandridge' Chris Sarandon FRIGHT NIGHT (1985) 'Captain Rhodes' Joseph Pilato DAY OF THE DEAD (1985) 'Herbert West' Jeffrey Combs RE-ANIMATOR (1985) 'John Ryder' Rutger Hauer THE HITCHER (1986) 'Ash Williams' Bruce Campbell EVIL DEAD II (1987)
Great choices, Bryn. To that list, I would have added Herbert West from Reanimator and The Hitcher (Rutgar Hauer). Yeah, Freddy was a good No. 1 pick. Great shame, though, that the character became too diluted and unscary when they started making him like a stand-up comedian with those dreadful one-liners (lol)! Enjoyed watching this video. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Thank you, Alan. Herbert West is another one of my favourite characters. I actually do enjoy the more comedic aspects of Freddy, but can see why people don't like it, considering how dark he was early on. Hope you enjoy the next one!
What they failed to mention to Hudson is that a day on LV-426 equates to about 900 earth days! So after nearly 40 (earth) years I reckon the rescue ship will be dropping by any day now. Just hold in there!
Hey Bryn, Great video! I will say that I am not too keen on 1980's horror movies. I did like Fright Night and was glad to see those characters on here! I just really like the older, classical horror movies!

I'd definitely pick Freddy as my number 1 too. Such an 80s icon
Glad you agree, mate!

Herbert West in the Re animator films is also worth a mention. Great list Bryn! 👍🏻
@@eelponna3145 Yes, how did I forget Herbert West?! Great suggestion.

I'm loving these lists, man. Great video. The 80's was fricken awesome for horror. "GAME OVER, MAN!" 😆
It certainly was, man! Thanks for watching the vids!

Thanks, mate. Yeah, the 80s is really hard to pick from.
Hi Bryn
Another awesome list mate.
And you are right the greatest decade.
Top picks mate.
One I would add is
Lori cardille who plays Dr sarah bowman in the Day Of The dead.
Brilliant performance from Lori Cardille.

Awesome as usual how about a series on your favourite films from film series
Thank you! Great idea, I’ll have a think about that.
I'd go with Jennifer Corvino from Phenomena and Linda and Barney from Next of Kin.
Good picks! Next of Kin is very underrated.
Keep up your good work HH. Always look forward to your vids. I think you would make a good tv horror movie host like Peter Vincent. You denfinitly have the horror movie knowledge!

Thank You for the GREAT List and Video 😀
No problem! 🙂
You must have had a incredibly difficult time coming up with this list! The 80's definitely had some of the most iconic horror movie characters.
Yeah, it was a tough list to put together - had to leave so many cool characters off the list!
