With crypto at all time highs, the profitability is at an all time low! With this in mind we are seeing a lot of companies dumping dirt cheap crypto related items on the market. We see a great example here with a 12 graphics card mining rig for only $400!?

almost thought I clicked on the wrong video till i realized 💀
Same tbh 😂
Thought this was a Linus video till he mentioned crypto
what did you realize
same I though I watch some minecraft video😂
Yea I thought this was my angry grandpas old vhs tapes until they said bro
That intro just killed me 😂

Toasty bros just became the crypto bros….
With RX 470s? Bro, they're not profitable even with close to free electricity 😂
@@hunterfabio they did clarify that near the end of the video you know.... 😆👍
Picked up a mining RX470 8gb card a few years back for dirt cheap, comparatively to full fat 570s/470s at the time. It only had one display output but worked just fine for gaming. It's in my daughters PC right now in fact, still more than good enough for the games she likes to play.
those rx470 570-580 are really great, and stupidly cheap, I bought like 8 of them to stockpile, one die another will replace its place...
you should reflash the bios on it, usually mining bios is slightly down clocked vs a normal 470, i actually had a couple that only had a dvi output and i reflashed them and they worked great
@@Kepler_2258 gpu clocked lower with ram clocked higher usually
@@amdintelxsniperx yea
Thank you so much for the shoutout, I honestly have NO IDEA why you were having these issues, and if we were being honest I was stumped myself. Mining is a process thats for sure, but there has never been an easier, or cheaper time to get into it...one gpu on your pc mining at night when you are not using it to say nicehash is a way to make small amounts of passive income!
As far as making those rx 470s game, I did a video on it, and it took me WAYYYYYYY to much time to get them gaming. I think I spent 6-7ish hours getting one to work on windows lol!
So you can “mine” on your pc overnight and make a tangible passable income? Does it ruin your card or anything?
@@HOBOTw1tcH yeah, it really kills the gpu
And also, usually mining requires a lot of gpu power, it isn't what a normal gaming pc can do.
@@HOBOTw1tcH nope not at all, mining is super safe
@@Otech_ it doesn't at all, mining is actually better for the long term health of a GPU then gaming
As someone who's been mining crypto for almost 4 years. I had a good laugh at this. The struggle to get HiveOS to work for the very first time was real. 😂
I found HiveOS to be a lot easier than nicehash miner in the windows environment.
@@joshuawebb1525 true, especially trying to figure out the MSR mod not applied when running xmrig through nicehash. Oof
i can feel that temptation to install windows. luckily i do have experience with linux , vm's remote shells... and still mining brings a lot to learn.
Crypto mining is crazy. I would not have the patience to mess with all that.
If you take in considration you won't need to turn on your heater. You may be turning a profit. LMAO
This :) the cost of elcectricity kills any profit, but if you take into account heating costs, 1 x 3090 keeps my room warm all year round. :)
6:42 sounds like my ps4 when i tried playing call of duty
I'm very glad you're trying out something new! I struggle as well with Linux and Crypto in general so I'm glad there's more noobs like me out there.
Miners love computer equipment. They baby the cards and treat them well, maybe better than many gamers do. It eats into profits when needing to buy more gpus.
Yep, usually they do undervolting and run the cards very cool, something most gamers dont if anything they overclock them and run hotter. Sometimes though I have seen mining cards with rust and those you should stay away from as that means they probably weren't in a very good enviroment
@@frostmafia1380 Was just about to say this. Any even slightly sensible miner will undervolt as much as possible, it reduces energy cost and allows them to power more GPUs with the same system. Gaming workloads have a lot of fluctuating usage and gamers like overclocking (I'm guilty of that)
@@frostmafia1380 If used in a air controlled environment their probably in better shape than a card that lived in badly cooled pc that gets the odd knock, breathed tobacco smoke was covered in dust its entire life.. on the other hand you could get a gaming card thats just never been used. point is, used cards are a risk either way.
What are those white chunks flying out of it? Plastic? Dust balls? Lol.
those were little bits of ethereum. collect enough of them and you can turn them into things like bitcoins!

bugs ?
mining is prettymuch dead, but thats not the only thing you can do with that many gpus, you can use some gpus for ai acceleration, but those RX470's would prob be very good at rendering tasks
Bingo, rent it out as AI accelerator power, I do the same with my 4090 so it doesn't feel bored all the time.
Turn it into a heater for your house during winters, I've always wanted to do something like this even if its unprofitable. If you break down where the energy goes in a computer, well its pretty much 100% heat. Now you have a 2000W Heater that costs less money to run than any electric heater. Maybe at the cost of noise depending on the installation :P
For that price, this could be interesting as a rig for rendering in Blender. At least until the power bill comes.
nooo, modern cards would whip the snot out of this when rendering.
Granted, it is only $400, but I would imagine it cost a fair chunnk to ship it to a customer.
@@noonecareswhenalltheydo Fair point. Maybe if it was sold locally and one could go pick it up.
you looked like untoasty bros when them fans first started up HAHA
I mean it might not be profitable, but maybe it could certainly be useful as a "heater with cashback" in winter :D
Can you run a hashcat benchmark ON it ???
Hi toasty bros! Do you guys happen to deliver to other countries in Asia.
If you have a IGPU or APU or even a lower profile card. Then u can tell windows to use it as a passthrough as a display for the main card.
That was an amazing intro😂 I really thought I clicked the wrong video
I love your Star Wars room. Matt. Solid choice.
I will mine whenever it's cold outside, even if it's not 'profitable' because it's cheaper than running the heater. I have 4 mining rigs w/ 8 6600XTs each in custom wood enclosures that I treat like space heaters. They pull about 1200W and work quite well at keeping my house warm. They mine enough to make a noticeable difference in my electrical costs in the winter too.
you could use these for video rendering, like get a gpu with video out and then use the horsepower of the others to do some cool stuff like FluidX3D
Problem is usually mining rigs works on pcie x1. So you loose a lot of bandwidth.
@@Wilky971 yeah i figured so
I am simply not smart enough to set up things like mining rigs lol
its a lot to take in, but... that stuff is so helpful to know, linux is a really cool operating system, you can literally install exactly what you need, nothing else, and get good performance from basic hardware. pretty much anything not running windows is linux. ios,Iphone, android, google chrome..... its all good stuff to know about, hive is minimal linux os, not even a desktop, every bit of cpu and ram is dedicated to one task. you pretty much install the os, and change a txt file to set up where the mined funds go. ( if you know, you know )
@@fpvrc9829 Is mining still something that's worth learning?
Shoutout to you guys for going out of your comfort zone and giving us a peek in to crypto mining!
I can help you set it up to mine lol and I'm going to give Matt a large👍 for not giving in trying to do something with Linux with windows. But next time it would have been so much easier to have done everything from a Linux PC from start lol.
As a linux user but a total noob at crypto, I don't understand why it was this complicated for you guys 😀
somtimes, things just dont wanna play ball. ive had that memory issue, i just switched to another coin, network cards and hard drives not wanting to show up.. some system just wanna fight the whole way.
I just wonder if they can be used for Encoding / Decoding video. or AI for things like Blue Iris. A security camera software. I want to build a new system with AI code project and other AI stuff.
Is a ryzen 7 7800x3d cpu and a amd rx 7800xt a good combo with 32gb ram ddr5 for gaming in high 1080p or 1440p high
or
should I get a ryzen 7 3700x cpu and rtx 2080 8gb with 32gb ram ddr4 for 1080p high or 1440p
On games like fortnite, war thunder, gta 5 and gta 6, ghost recon 2024, call of duty warzone all on either 1080p high or 1440p high or medium settings at 140 fps+
7800x3d 7900 GRE 32GB DDR5 6000mhz 1080p beast!
It is fun to see you struggle, I remember my early days. Etc would be full power. Rave coin is not ideal for power consumption, try ergo for testing.
Would love to see you all do a CPU mining rig, and maybe a Salad AI rig and discuss that as a fun project?
Few questions. Were you running out of RAM? I went with the 'x79' 5 slot mobo and it takes a $20-30 32GB DDR3 LRDIMM. Secondly, did you try any undervolting tricks to get the GPUs to a more efficient power/performance level? Maybe less hash, but way less power? Crazy vid 😂. Too bad about the weak CPU, could have tried Proxmox and run a whole LAN party off Chromebooks with SteamLink 😅
I would turn this thing into a lan center with moonlight+sunshine streaming lmao
That intro was 10/10 lol
For beamng drive would you go amd 7950x3d or Intel 13900?
i'm doing AI computing right now. I'm doing Salad AI computation right now using my rig.
You could still monetize them creatively wherever electricity must be consumed such as resistance-banks for solar when all the batteries are full and there is otherwise low demand you have to burn the power off (vent it) somewhere. Some power farms already do this and recoup some crypto for power that would have just turned to heat with huge resistor load banks. Then profitability is based on $0.00 per KWh energy. Or subsidized power contract. Or colo/rack situation with "20A 24/7" included and no metering (and no anti-mining ToS). Or hook them up all weekend at random AirBnB's?
dude, a 470/480 should be running at like 24-30 MH per second, with a power draw of 95-115 watts per card. On etc. what were you two getting?
But will it run ollama?
are those costs based on the cost of your electricity?
The HP (now HPE) power supplies come from a line called Flex Slot Power Supplies. They came in many Wattage sizes, I happen to have 4 of those 1200s on a shelf in my office. Can pick them up cheap on eBay as that Flex Slot design hasn't been used by HPE in like the last 4 generations of servers.
Also, that is NOT a 2U case. Full Height GPUs don't fit vertically in 2U, it's at least 4U maybe 5U. 1U is 1.75" so just measure the height and divide by 1.75.
You need to increase swapfile size to get rid of that DAG error. (pagefile)
thank you.... next time :)
Do you guys do international shipping?
Does all the gpu have output or you need specific mining gpus?
you can use any gpu for mining, even raspberry pi if youre crazy enough.
Why did I think this was Linus XD
This is some crazy Linus ahh shenanigans tho
You should see how well these GPUs work in a Jellyfin server for transcode or a video editing server.
One should have fixed electricity attached to rent (or somehow low priced contract) as now it's simplier just save money than trying to mine some.
Thank you very much! Just purchased one!
Think about pointing those card to folding@home if you don't care about crypto. They can always use the help.
I still have no idea what crypto mining is, and how a purely digital currency has any sort of value......
just as cash is fake printed paper by governments, crypto is solved equations from computers and those answers are the currency. all currencies value comes from demand, just as if noone uses USD anymore usd would have no value, same thing applies. simple way to think about it
It has value in the same way that physical currency has value. Solely because of the fact we choose to give it a value and can trade said currency for other items that we chose to give the same value.
There are slightly over 2000 digital currencies which I find crazy. Lots of hype.
@@iamsil3nt But I very very rarely ever see a market place that I actually use, that accepts crypto currency.
@@hinsie4268 paypal has the option to convert your balance to crypto currency, but there is no way for that to actually gain in value like a savings account.
This rig might work if we swapped those gpu into a nvme carrier card , a cheapo ssd nas maybe ?
Limited pcie lanes but for that price cant complain too much
If they are 12x RX 470 Mining Edition you can just plug it to a PC with integrated graphics, flash the correct BIOS which matches the type of memory (samsung, micron, hynix) I normally see those running 2000mhz in the VRAM so its better to get a BIOS that has 1750mhz to make it live longer and there you go, a normal RX 470 but with only a DVI port or not even that
Do you have world wide shipping?
Bro 13:54 hexen was my SHIZ when I was younger!!
oh brother please reach out if you ever need any help in the future
I would be curious to see if I could get Folding@Home to run on this and run protein folding simulations across all 12 GPUs, that would be kind of a fun project. Folding@Home is definitely not about profitability, but is a nice way to give back. Still makes sense to try to make it more power-efficient. But again, could be a fun project.
hi toastybros would you the answer to a comparison between a rtx 3060m 6gb and a rtx 3050 6gb whats the best part for performance if you like cod apex the finals fortnite what would a test bench option?
Check online benchmarks. I believe the 2080 is somewhat comparable and more affordable just from a quick search. Personally running a 3060ti which is relatively affordable and more than enough for gaming and moderate home Blender usage so I imagine both of your choices are capable of similar function.
Tl;dr pretty much anything with similar specs should perform great in standard use cases (gaming, art, home music production, etc)
Edit: UserBenchmark is where I've been comparing specs in case you wanted to have a look
Great news thanks for the info

HiveOS is named by the rash you get from the stress of getting it to do anything right.
Setting it up off vanilla Ubuntu (and maybe a 3rd party repo or two) always works much better but does also have plenty of potholes and gotcha's. The same types of things you end up trying to fix in HiveOS but with a more restrictive setup.
Not sure how your running out of vram the dag size isn't 4gb until like September 2025 on etc.
You can actually mine straight through the command prompt. But running a script it's a lot better and more control.
from what ive seen of crypto mining that its best to have like 16gigs some time for mining for ram so that might be the reason why perhaps
You needed 8 GB of VRAM and system RAM to load the DAG for Ethereum back when it was still mineable, no?
Those HP power supplies are from April 06, 2009.
GPU mining basically stopped working as soon as I bought my 3060ti for way too much a couple of years ago. I also think I have been using it for gaming on a motherboard that couldn't even support it's full speed.
i mined eth for a few months with my 3090, was making around £40 a month before the update...
@@fpvrc9829 I think I was making almost $3 a day with a 3060ti, a 2060mobile, and an rx580. Those were some wasteful days 3 years ago.
that intro got me good
Lol just replace the guts and gpus with 4070s and make a AI training server
install a normal linux distro or windows and find out what other can do? Like Rendering videos or other gpu related task.
Can you train LLM or other ai applications with the miner?
That can be done very easily. Just reconfigure it as a normal server. Any server OS will work. FreeBSD will work best, because of the minimal requirements. Otherwise use Alpine, Fedora Server, Debian Server or any other Server distribution without a Desktop Environment.
We need to see a benchmark for the 12 gpus in MINECRAFT💀
Bro tryin to cypto mine online 😂
The ultra version has both vga and hdmi for the $375 on ebay
Can you use a few for llm ai?
I saw that no matter what cards you use, its not profitable to mine unless u keep the coins till a rise in the currency.
2:45 no preparation whatsoever and asks us not to come at them
I am mining with 24 RX 580s, I can confirm the heat is real. I’m roughly pulling 3500 watts at the wall.
I much prefer Rufus to Balena Etcher. Rufus is a small portable application that can run no install. Balena is what 150MB and needs installed? Not sure why it's so bloated.

$900 for a 3050 build is crazy
Dag size is memory size on the gpu, you cant mine with those cards anymore on Etc
If I was there, I would automatically buy a PC from ToastyBros
It would be interesting to math out a solar system that could keep it running 24/7. I would guess about $10,000 in the southern USA would be about right. Anyone know how much that miner would bring in revenues?
lmao the beginning 😂
Just bought a computer with a i7 11700 and a 1660ti for $240
Hi guys, does PC bros ship to colombia? God bless!
Buy prebuilts throw in a gpu and flip it for 250usd.. keep repeating until u sell all the gpus and u have massive profits + a mining server
All of the GPUs have had the shroud and fans removed to expose just the heat sinks to the airflow. Pretty much makes them unsellable.
@joshuawebb1525 not really cheap dual 120mm fans with some zipties would solve the problem
Not the most visually appealing option, but very true. And it will cool better than the oem fans.
@joshuawebb1525 yea and its a 250$ system no one will care
Any pc with zip ties will earn cool points on the marketplace. 😂
Guys don't use the 470, use the p106 mining card instead. Chinese gamers get them for under 20 bucks and they work.
This was me the other week...
So you think you had issues? I did a big name and found they were taking a big bit of the pie, so skipped out. Now hunting for what to and where to mine is essential. Ive solar, and in the uk we pay £0.26 per kWh.. about $0.30...
So if you cant make the math work then no point in trying.
Any way we frt paid £0.04 feeding excess solar to the grid, so just needs to make more.. and i did ;)
Its was not easy, and there had been a down turn and rather state Market so its not thwt good. But as its costing nothing and a bit of fun, but i still dont know how half of it works...
I mined also on a bulldoser!! Old tech. Can in better that a 16 core server thats a lot newer. My old r7 makes around £0.50 for the day (solar) so passove income. But i would buy the hardware as well it costs as much as you make.😅
This would be great for companies that sell compute power
Are there any components that can be swapped out. Change the cpu to a higher end cpu. Make a new video with upgrading the machine.
I get myself a year ago for similar price 12 Sapphire GPRO X080 - if you send video signal via iGPU on CPU you have RX 6700 10GB decent gaming gpu
roughly $1.50 a day (USD), not counting eletrical cost. While that's not really good, it'll be ok for somebody just starting.
Ergo and other low power algos would be a lot cooler and draw less watts,.
ran in to scratchpad, huge pages issues with the mining software.
Is it any good for blender?
16 lane pcie cpu each card running at 1x for mining don't need Pcie bandwidth, but u do need enough pcie lanes to run in at least 1x can't put 24 cards on that cpu for instance...
You guys are low key picking up where LMG left off kudos let's hope you actually stay loyal till the soil
as a former hobby miner this was quite painful to watch 💀
I wonder if that rig could be repurposed as an AI/deep learning oriented rig tho... a little low on ram it seems and quite power hungry, but for $400 it'd be a steal!
always up to shenanigans
I thought the guy on the right was linus😭
