My neighbor's fence is on their property by at least a foot. They didn't mind us tying into it when we fenced in our yard. But, we both know it's his property.
I'll be putting the house up for sale this year. I'll make sure the realtor knows this.
Fence Story: If you want or need to build a fence and don't want the Neighbour to have any say in the style, size or colour, then as OP did, build it inside the Property Line so it entirely on your Property, rather than on the line so both Property Owners share Ownership...but NEVER build it more than 1 or 2 INCHES inside the line, to do more gives the Neighbour unrestricted access and use to land YOU pay for (in Property Taxes) and after 20 years, they might have a claim to your land through Adverse Possession...
As long as it's beside the Line, not on it, the Fence is 100% yours and the Neighbour has absolutely no say in it's construction, size, style and/or colour...
Given the story about the guy in India, I'm surprised that the company didn't just say, "You're working until we say that you can leave." They're kinda famous for some of their shenanigans ...
The OP in the first story, could’ve really taken some real and legal revenge. First point would be insufficient funded payroll checks. That would’ve gotten the employer and some very serious trouble with the local banks, as well as with the state. The second item was under reporting of income on federal income tax forms(déjà the W-2). That would’ve resulted in significant jail time and fines. I’m rather surprised that she didn’t take that action as she should have.

First story people are treated this way because they allow it. I'll be damned if I work at a place that I have troubles getting my check.
Restuarant favorites story: You stuck around much longer than you should have OP.
Work hours story: Some bosses don't have the mental capacity to be a boss. OP was putting in the required number of hours, boss just had a stick up his rear. Oh well.
Property line story: Sounds about right. Some people just enjoy rocking the boat, not knowing when it's going to tip over.
Waitress Story: When the Paychecks bounced, OP should have reported Manglement and the Restaurant Owners to the Department of Labor (for failing to pay on time) and the Police (for Check Fraud)...
One visit by the Department of Labor and the Police later and the Paychecks would be unlikely to ever Bounce again...

Story 1, I have zero sympathy for people who work for no pay and continue to work every unpaid shift and never leave. There are other restaurants where you could work.

Worked for a telco in a major U.S. city. We got a new district manager. In his first meeting he told us he started work at eight and worked till five and that would be our new hours. We tried to tell him it would not work. He said he would not argue about it. So we came in at our new starting time and were unable to work. All utilities in a city are underground. At eight all street spaces are taken so there was no way to work. We had a whole week of doing nothing until our start time was changed back. I admit this is sexist. I always wondered why women in dresses would walk up to the Manhole guard to ask us what we were doing. I do not think they realized what they were showing talking to someone looking straight up their dress to reply.
