Tesla Cybertruck vs Porsche 911 Turbo S // DRAG RACE
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 янв 2025
- The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast ($96,390 starting in the US) and the 2024 Porsche 911 Turbo S ($230,400 starting in the US, $263,600 starting in Canada) have lined up for a drag and roll race. The Cybertruck has the EV-torque launch advantage - even against the spring-loaded 911 Turbo S - but has all the aerodynamics of a kitchen appliance. The Porsche should hope to bring the speed later down the strip, and make up lost ground from the launch. Thomas and James are excited to see what happens, but things don’t always go as you might expect during a drag race! We hope you enjoy the episode. And then subscribe, silly.

Perfect way to celebrate Valentine's Day by myself.
You and your car is not “by myself” 😉
You aren’t alone!
I will see you on Reddit later for the lonely one's meetup
for you it's Single Awareness Day.
Same bruv
Guys guys guys - we went over this, you're supposed to use the **slowest** Porsche 911, and shift casually, we have dorks (like myself) to impress!
FYI - Tesla engineers mentioned 15:1 gear ratio for the rear axle in one of the videos, but not sure on the front ratio, so still unknown on torque. 10,296 lb-ft/15 = 686.4 lb-ft if you assume they're all 15:1, but I'd kinda guess the real number is a bit higher. It's a shame they went the Hummer route here!
I was thinking the exact same thing. No way the cyber truck was beating a turbo!!!
I watched your video about this!

Then let's see the slowest-spec Cybertruck vs the slowest-spec 911.
“The slowest 911”….that still costs more than the cybertruck?
In today's lesson: You can't beat a Porsche with a fridge.

@@kraig7777 Well, at least it´s now actually useful as an appliance :D
@@kraig7777 Both are insanely dangerous, ESPECIALLY if you have children. I can't believe there isn't a safety standard for it.
I hate the damned thing, but I have to admit it sometimes feels like it's really snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Doing a flashback when the retro craze was starting people lost their minds when VAG released the TT and the VW Beetle concepts and then saw them actually come out, people went nuts! Same thing for the Thunderbird "oh wow it's really gonna look like that!". In the case of the Tbird, style got them headlines but lack of substance made them fall out quite quickly, while the TT and the Beetle did make a decent production run. The cybertruck looks so alien that If Elon had shut his trap and didn't hype this thing up incessantly, and had just released it in one event and then followed it up with the production model, people would have gone nuts and would be more forgiving to it's shortcomings, at least I would. But since it's not about the product but drumming up hype and share price, he HAD to keep running the sewer that's his mouth with ever more outlandish claims, which lead to the only possible scenario of over promising and under delivering, They had a car that gets attention by looks alone, and they could be figuring out it's pain points with far less public scrutiny but instead of that, they have a bunch of unfulfilled promises, and a bunch of weird non essential requirements that Mr manchild insisted on.
It’s insane how triggering the CT is for people.
I have yet to see a single review where a Cybertruck is doing any kind of work that trucks are typically used for.
You probably won't for a while. EV trucks are more novelty right now but I reckon they'll eventually get to the point where they can legitimately replace a good ole pick up truck.

Porsche also just beat all Tesla Model S Plaid lap times with ease with the Taycan Turbo GT on several circuits during public events (and always on the first attempt, they just optimized some stuff and then got even quicker). Porsche is simply the best car manufacturer. And while the Model S Plaid overheated 2 times on the Nordschleife, Porsche drove several rounds with 1 car and then just swapped the cars to have a full battery again - but there you can see what their 90+ years racing experience brings. They simply know how to build cars for long range racing like nobody else.

Love these crazy videos you guys make. Excellent!!!
GM and Tesla are switching over to using Wheel Torque, because it's a better metric. That is what provides the force shoving the vehicle forward, so it's the one the matters.
Comparing Engine torque numbers has always been inherently flawed, but it was tradition, so that's what everyone is still comfortable with.
What would be even better is if automakers published tractive force graphs.
But wheel torque isn't accurate either because it's not linear (even with an electric motor).
1st gear is going to be super high and it'll go down as the transmission shifts up.
@@beanapprentice1687 100% agreed. That's an even better metric. But that would be too much detail for majority of people, so I don't see that ever happening.
The current method isn’t flawed; it worked for the given time period. Over the last century, we’ve mainly had two transmission choices and many different gear ratio options. The only static would be the output of the engine amongst them. This works in the absence of a constant or standard.
@@User.Joshua Different vehicle models have different transmission and final drive ratios. Therefore, a comparison of Engine torque between them may be misleading. Admittedly it often is a reasonable approximation, but it falls apart in some situations. Comparing torque values between the gas and diesel engine options in pickup trucks for example. Whereas comparing peak wheel torque values would give a better approximation of acceleration potential.
Granted even that isn't a perfect metric because tractive force is then dependent on tire radius, which also varies between vehicles. But there is even more room for accuracy because next you would want to take into account vehicle mass, rolling resistance, and aerodynamic drag.
As you can see, just about any metric most people would speak in terms of is an approximation. Wheel torque is just a more accurate approximation than Engine/eMotor torque but an approximation of peak vehicle acceleration rate none-the-less.
Considering it's as aerodynamic (and as heavy!) as a house, that wasn't a poor show!
Aero isn’t too important at quarter mile speeds. What makes the truck impressive is how fast it accelerates for its weight.
@@beanapprentice1687that’s wrong, it’s hugely important, it’s why it looses quarter mile, but wins 1/8.
@@beanapprentice1687 aero is important. Its a large part of why the porsche starts really pulling away from it at higher speeds.
@@mhcosss actually, the Porsche begins to pull on the cybertruck at higher speeds because it has a higher power-to-weight ratio. Specifically, the cybertruck has a hp/kg ratio of 0.274, whereas the Porsche has a hp/kg ratio of 0.39, which is around 40% higher.
@@TheSteinbitt nope. See my other comment about power to weight ratio. The only reason why the cybertruck wins in the 8th mile is because it has better launch capabilities due to being electric.
I can't believe how that Cybertruck takes off. I had thought the Turbo S would just completely destroy it straight from launch. Very impressive

We should make a race between the two cars on a winded back road! Actually probably not as the truck doesn't do corners!
I'm pretty sure I could destroy that cybertruck in a Honda Civic on a country road!

“I’ll tow you to the track if it’s within 30 miles!” Lol
Finally. Someone does a real drag race on a real 1/4 mile track. We all knew the Tesla drag race was a farce
you do know this is a trubo s right. there's a big difference from trubo s from base. one is pretty much super car territory.
People are so surprised a $300k sports car beat a $100k pickup truck
Side quest vs. Flagship
The truth is everyone fell for engagement viral marketing. Whether it was calculated or a happy accident, idk
$230k sports car, but yeah they are weirdly surprised because Elon musk said that the cyber truck won.
@@TheGaangCT didn’t race a 911 Turbo S in the video, it was a base 911. This race doesn’t change those results either. It’s clear a CT would destroy a 911 Base actually.
@@MrLSDownliner yes it would but the 911 base is actually the same price as the cyber truck lol
@@TheGaang It did beat a 911 while towing another 911. This is a different Porsche.
Fridge vs vacuum
Facts!!!!
Is this a case of the top speed being limited by/topping out on the Tesla or that the 911 is actually accelerating past it at its best? Wish we coulda seen the speedos. Fun video!
